#CUEchat is both a weekly Twitter chat and an ongoing conversation across social media that connects CUE members, resources, and new ideas. Each week is powered by a unique voice.

Kyle in Reno, special education teacher, new to my school and district, learning the ropes and trying to help my colleagues become more tech savvy throughout their lessons #cuechat

I was a tech coach for a short time, but my role was helping out tech newbies/resisters, there were CS teachers that had a solid program at the school #cuechat
Adam, Tech Coach, Central CA, I am not directly involved in CS Ed, but I work with our CS Teacher to help kids display their learning in a variety of ways. I'm also married to one of the lead writers of the CA CS Standards. #CUEchat@kat_goyette

A1: We have an AP CS class and some entry level CS classes. Our AP students have created apps for organizations as well as #TulareCOE#TechRodeo#CUEchat
A1: There is some taking place in our elementer STEM focused schools, in our MS labs, and selectively at our 6 HS's. I don't thing there is a concerted or coordinated effort #CUEchat WeAreCUE #CUElearnCS
A1: My school is 1:1 Chromebook, but I honestly am not sure how they are applied to CS. I know we have some programming classes, but there isn't a school wide initiative to incorporate CS #cuechat
#cuechat You can use Chromebooks with https://t.co/RnklMgCSiI curriculum. My school is also 1 to 1 Chromebook, but I teach in a lab because AP CSA uses Java and I have not found a good online compiler.
A1: Many teachers in my former school teach CS daily using a variety of applications including @kodable, Scratch Jr. and Hopscotch. They have BeeBots too for the younger students. #cuechat
A1: CS not yet embedded into school day for most districts. We are building awareness, leading to increased interest, educator desire for professional learning & networking opportunities. I have enjoyed planning these opportunities for educators, leaders. #cuechat#CUElearnCS
#CUEchat I LOVE pre-k! We do lots of mouse skills. I bought them single-click mice and we use @ABCYA skills games. They learned Make A Pizza first and love it. We also have Botley coding robots (:
A1. It is still a choice to teach cs. I try to help people understand why it is important and create resources to show how and what it looks Ike then teach in classrooms w/teachers check out https://t.co/ws3ju8iyrS and https://t.co/RJ63pjJTME to see a few projects #CUEchat
Hey #cuechat, Corey from Orange County, CA. Instructional Technology TOSA. I get teachers pumped and prepped for HOC. In this video we demo a lesson on sequencing.
Getting ready for #HourOfCode and you tell teachers to write a code and you will act it out to try and get to cookies in the back of the room. Oh, and then tell them this year's theme is creativity, you get this. Here is to embracing fears. #ggusdtech#tosachat
The CS standards contain Interdisciplinary examples and an appendix with connections to all other CA standards to show that CS can be integrated, not seen as an add-on. Check it out: https://t.co/pA71TkR9x9#CUEchat#cuerockstar
A2: In the past I sent invitations to the elementary schools near my high school for a night of coding. I had a full house and my cs students loved helping. #cuechat
In the past, the homies @JWoodsCS and @edcampOSjr facilitated our high school CS students going to the elementary schools to mentor kids on CS during Hour of Code. #cuechat
A2: One of the best activities we had were “Parents Can Code” nights during the H of C week. We invited students to bring their parents and show them how to code. The kids loved being the teachers and the parents really enjoyed learning to code. #cuechat
A2. I like games kids can bring home and teach their friends and families. My robotic friend, conditionals with cards, dice race can all be found on @codeorg cs fundamentals #CUEchat

A2: When Hour of Code first began, I went door to door to ask Ts to participate for one hour during the week. Everyone did! After, they all agreed it was very worthwhile and continued to do it. Ts said that it built “soft skills” like persistence that helped students. #cuechat
@Minecraft is so amazing. We had a teacher who taught decimals using Minecraft. They had to build the decimal number using the “bricks”. Students really understood it. He used it for comparison of decimals too. #cuechat
I will be talking to my student teachers about Hour of Code and hopefully their classroom teachers will agree to let their students participate. #cuechat
A3: Once again leaning on @SueStyren ideas and work at our school. #csweeek2018 kicks of with our 3rd Annual Family Coding Day. Then we roll into a week of activities and awareness. #cuechat
A3: #cuechat I was introduced to other game design software at Fall CUE and at the CSTA meeting. I will have my intro students work in teams and build a game.
I think @scratch is going to play a greater role for us this year. Always looking at how we can make students creators throughout the whole year. This is definitely a skill that can transfer across the curriculum. #cuechat
A4: I am wondering about this...as all are so busy, but the new CA CS standards call for CS across curricular strands. This is a great opportunity for the future #CUElearnCS#WeAreCUE#CUEchat
A4: I love having a common theme or activity so we could see the progression of skills as the grade levels grow. I would like to increase a community feel by using the power of #Flipgrid to share across all 34 schools. #CUEchat
A4: It can be done. You need to talk it up at staff meetings and possible f2f with teachers. Once they do it, they’ll be hooked. #cuechat You can use coding in every subject area. It’s really versatile and involves all of the 4 Cs. #cuechat
#cuechat In the high school level that is difficult. I put announcements in for the morning prior to my lunch event but the students normally don't listen. I will as the Math, Science and Engineering Teachers make an announcement in class for the lunch Hour of Code. #cuechat
A4: Since I see all grades every week, they all do #hourofcode & it is my kickoff for our Computer Science units. I invite all classroom teachers to come learn w/their kids but so far that hasn't been a great success. #CUEchat
I was being selfish. I had such a good time with it and also felt that it was really important for my students to have an opportunity to code. #cuechat
When I invited the elementary students their parents stayed, too. It was a great evening. Loved to see parents and children working together. My husband and son also helped out. #cuechat
A5: Hour of Code should be the appetizer for the coding banquet that should take place after. Once Ts and Ss get into it. There is no stopping the momentum. #cuechat
Agreed, I measure success with the buzz from students and parents when it's happening and after it's over AND from the excitement when we continue CS activities when it's over. #CUEchat
A5. When I was at a school site a couple of weeks ago and a student said, “Hey, there’s that coding guy. That was so cool. “ That is a win everyday in my book. #cuechat
It’s about the logic. There are way too many languages to teach them all. Let’s teach computational thinking and the language will easily come. #CUEChat
A6: I think the best thing about Hour of Code and CSEDWeek is that they build awareness. The more people are aware of how important coding is, the more people will want to have it in our schools. #cuechat
A6: I think students will be so engaged and empowered that they will crave it! Also, I think one could make the case for improved typing skills ... give them a reason (they like) to type and their accuracy will go up! #CUEchat
A6: SHARE photos, videos, quotes from students during #CSEdWeek#HourOfCode & then share some more. Work with teachers to integrate CS into their curriculum - it can fit into curricular areas! #CUEchat
A6: As teachers witness how accessible CS can be to students, we can use this success to suggest and provide additional CS activities that align to other content standards for more memorable learning experiences for students. #CSEdWeek#cuechat#CUElearnCS
A6. The hardest thing is finding time in an already busy teachers day. We are looking at after school groups to help build momentum. Show teachers and admin the value and the time will be found soon. #cuechat
