A1: we don't cut have about 100 kids and 3 teams. Some years JV can be a struggle of young talent is better than older. Stuggling between keeping 9th or not #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: We have 5 teams, but will expand to 6 when we have over 100 freshmen. Varsity can be anywhere from 40-65, and subvarsity teams, usually no more than 50 #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: We presently have 30 kids in our #RuralHSFootball program, we field 1 team that will play varsity games on Fridays and a JV or Reserve game of only 2 quarters on Monday. #TXHSFBCHAT

HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: We're having a classic 5 Question chat tonight! Make sure you answer each Q and include the hashtag in all your tweets! #TXHSFBCHAThttps://t.co/BjVeVAGrpD
HSSocialMedia : RT txhsfbchat: Q1: How many teams do you have in your program (9th, JV, VAR) and how many players do you keep on each team? #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: We have 5 teams, but will expand to 6 when we have over 100 freshmen. Varsity can be anywhere from 40-65, and subvarsity teams, usually no more than 50 #TXHSFBCHAT
The high school that the middle school I coach at feeds into has 9th, JV, and varsity. The numbers fluctuate for 9th are around 40 or so, JV and varsity combined total about 70 plus, maybe more. #txhsfbchat
LOL I remember those days in SoCal , 2 freshman teams, JV of 40 to 50, Varsity of 40 to 50 #TXHSFBCHAT , I think it is even more impressive that all the coaches in TX are on staff in some capacity. Positive Relationships will prosper in this environment in MHO
Matt Caldwell - HFC/AD George County HS (MS). A1 - We have a separate 9th grade team that usually has 30-35. JV/Var is around 65-70. They guys that don’t play much on Friday night, play JV on Monday night. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2; A pulse LOL we pretty much have to make our athletes from ground up. Best athlete at QB because of Veer Scheme, create linemen regardless of size, & think outside the box it's #RuralHSFootball you can when state with 145 lbs. Fullbacks & OLBs & 155 pound OL #TXHSFBCHAT Crazy
A2 Everyday is going to be an evaluation and you can always look at back at film whenever you can. But what usually sets the kid apart is how the position coach feels about how much they know about the game and their position #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: We use off season and spring ball to evaluate. We film practice every day during the spring, and the kids receive constant feed back about how they are doing and where they stand. Most of the decisions shouldn't be shocking #TXHSFBCHAT
We evaluate by practice everyday. The 3 items they are placed by are:
Assignment - How well they do their job.
Age - If two are equal, we generally go with the younger Player.
Attitude- At the end of the day, the guys we can count on are going to play.
#TXHSFBCHAT
A3: We meet with each kid individually with their position coach and inform them of their placement and where they fit on the team to maximize their skills and playing opportunity #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: We post a weekly depth chart starting in June (end of spring ball) to end on season in Fall. Most of our kids already have it figured out by who gets reps in practice with first team. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: can’t get better if you aren’t playing, so hope to maximize reps on subvarsity. Also make drills and practice competitive. No spot is safe. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: The most important thing is reps. We will put our top 3 at the position on Varsity, then 4 and 5 are typically JV starters if they are underclassmen. I want my young guys on the field seeing it at some level. #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: try to not place two kids the same grade in the same spot to develop overall depth. Also have to understand a kid may be one position now but move to another based on need i.e. DE to DT because of increase size safety to olb because he has a forward first instinct #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: This is where we get weird at small rural level, while I love the Veer. I love it most for it's simplicity which means all my OL can play OG or OT or even a TE or C. We have to do it that way cuz we are injury away from disaster #TXHSFBCHAT our kids learn several positions
A4: We want our kids to get as much playing experience as possible, so part of team placement is where they can help the program and develop as a player the best. Our JV players are coached by the varsity and coaches, so they can work with and against top players #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: We have 2 fresh. teams, 2 JV teams and Varsity.
We try 2 maintain at minimum 2 deep across the board but when eligibility checks come out it’s different. That being said I won’t advise moving a kid up 2 fill numbers if he is not ready to play at that level.
#txhsfbchat
Q2: We evaluate everyday during practice and we film every practice. We film with drones and end zone tower cams. There is also offseason evaluation to determine work ethic and dependability #txhsfbchat
If you're going to promote competition and growth you have to let kids have a chance to prove themselves with in reason. Still better to get a lot of PT vs little to none to develop skills #TXHSFBCHAT
We will also make the unusual Freshman or Sophomore starter play some quarters with his class on Mondays during reserve JV games - to keep class unity and to keep kids humble and not big headed problems as juniors and seniors #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: Once the season starts, it’s pretty locked in barring injury. I don’t think it’s good to have a kid moving up and down, but I will tell a kid that could move up that the chance is there, but usually will do that sooner than later #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: From top to bottom we always want the best players on the field. No one’s job is ever completely safe! You’d better bring it everyday. I have had 3 D1 DBs the past two seasons and this still rings true! #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: at our school kids can play up easily and are all a injury or eligibility issue away from #NextManUp#TXHSFBCHAT if we have 30 on our roster all 30 will see varsity time and the earlier they see it the faster they get comfortable with it and competing
A4: you don’t get better watching someone else play. If you have a soph or Jr that is good enough to be on varsity but won’t get significant playing time bc of depth in that position, I advocate putting him on JV to get reps and develop him for next year. #txhsfbchat
