A4 I started taking a couple weeks ago. But, dunno, the experience isn't what I thought it'd be.
I've been excited about all the resources on the site.
Dammit, , I just had another convo with a bot. Either AI's getting smarter or I'm losing IQ points here: Discuss: (humans only).
Authenticity counts, be yourself- why hide that? That is the best part of each of us, show it and share https://t.co/BIdadZCsKW

Q5 How can you overcome any problems in connecting students with other schools?
Relevant curriculum with an authentic audience = increased student engagement and deeper learning! https://t.co/fNBfbz5X30
So true-what Ss create for an audience is much higher value for them than what they create for you https://t.co/wR3lXhI30w
My students create projects for classes around the world - find an audience rather than you
Morning Kristy! I typically miss so it's good to be on. Great seeing you and learning with you too!
A5) use technology to connect S's in different schools. Google hangout & Skype are good tools. Set a purpose 4 the connection

Students are inspired when they meet other students with similar academic goals
yes. I just rephrased my tweet. 😀
pieces of my blog - some photo from school, a good quote, hopefully inspiring, schedule for the day & one article
I've learned not to click the links in replies the past month or so. The spam bots have definitely evolved!
Twitter changed everything for me!
Ultimately, these kinds of connections can reduce, or even eliminate, most staff meetings.
I agree. We spend lots of time working on how. Model, practice, model, practice.... :-)
A4: we use google hangouts and chat with app developers of apps we use in class.
A5: overcome problems by modeling, support, time, empathy, patience & leadership

Great point! We always make sure out culmination project involve local experts from the community.
A5:Start with Ts, show them how valuable they are, don't block emails & social media. Work with all to address concerns(Ps,Ts, Ss)

Cutting out early today
Have a great weekend.
Thanks for the great convo!
A5 There's nothing a tank of regular unleaded in my Honda Pilot's tank can't overcome when it comes to connecting w/others
A5 Depends on the problem, but I'd ask Ss to problem solve with me. Involve them w/ process of finding a solution.
Yes. Or at least the traditional form of them. When we bring people together, it must be with purpose.
. Real humans are the best kind. Usually.
Many problems can be averted by Ts modeling how to collaborate, plan and communicate

A5: We need to look for connections not traditionally made in education:
- robotics
- makerspaces
- gamification
Just 3 examples
Don't get me wrong, I know where I want or need to go, or what others might need.
Something that seems easy, can be difficult in our busy, smartphone world. Make the investment. https://t.co/9gIC9WGedx
A4 Why do we teach more lack of connection w Gatsby CatcherRye instead of deeply transformative texts? Ex: Dewey R.Carson Silko
I agree - kindness and understanding first - empowers others
Teaching empathy must be intentional; it's not always something valued at home. A learned skill!
Sometimes the bots are nicer. lol

A5; Ts need to see the value of connecting outside the classroom. Model by connecting w/other sites. Demo using Hangouts & Skype
Again.. more pd for HS Teachers needed on connected classrooms on how it can support learning.
when I was a high school student I always wanted to know what people were doing at other schools
This has been very helpful to me. They have help ideas come to practice.
Patience is one of the hardest. Hard to wait for the majority to come to consensus.
Yes, model what can happen! Share the outcomes, this encourages others to get on board
PD is good for training, but can be an isolated formal experience. Professional LEARNING is good for ongoing modeling.
The links give it away for me! Catching on.
That's great. For me, I'm not always as good at that, so I need to always be thinking of the future.
You had better build a relationship before you need a relationship.
There's so much more buyin & effort when Ss know they're solving real problem & not a worksheet. More of this please!
A5a It's kinda odd when i stop n think about it. Since in '13 my PD's seen a sea change. Why just the other day..
May the force be with you to make the necessary connections our staff, students, parents & community need. https://t.co/pplDI1HZKI
Nice one. Though, chances are, we often need a relationship before we need to build one.
So true. It needs to be more than talk. We need 2 connect families w/new learning! https://t.co/YTTUrxt6FK
A5: We need to look for connections not traditionally made in education:
- robotics
- makerspaces
- gamification

Indeed! Just this wk, rather than test prep, we did a schoolwide "48 Hrs to Change the World" project. It was amazing!
I use to show feeds of Twitter posts w/our school hashtag () and broadcast to TVs around campus.
and that's part of learning process: always cycling between teacher and student!
I wonder: if we decreased curricula coverage & shortened school day 4 kids might it lead both lrners/tahrs 2 more time to connect?
Q6 What types of connections should we be making?
Q6 What types of connections should we be making and why?
It is amazing the difference when you have S buy in as opposed to talking at them.
Have admin. do a book read on Digital Leadership by Eric Sheninger--ours did, now more open to connecting https://t.co/l0c2cyAbMR
A5: our school very restrictive with outside connections, have to keep challenging, show connection to curriculum, 21st Cent skills

Q5 How can you overcome any problems in connecting students with other schools?
this is great! I am going to post this in my classroom!!
And teaching at univ level can learn much from K12 connectivity & tech. https://t.co/vZ9hZA6Zpo
It seems to me like (elementary edus)are the leaders in virtual connections w/other scls.We can learn from them at MS & HS!
A5: The ? really is whether global mindness is truly at core of your school's philosophy, bc today no obstacle is insurmountable
Thanks for sharing. Yes, those connections are memorable for our students.

love it - just signed up to follow Be nice. Work hard. Think big.
I agree. I see the transformation with my Ss connecting too.
A5: Digital citizenship T & L imbedded in curric. Start small and local. School Google forms, flipped learning platforms in class
And yet we still see Ts at the podium everyday. We need to model a better way & bring them with us.
Join today 10:30EST/9:30CST/7:30PST "School Leadership & Change"
A5: definitely need to get tech right so convos aren't frustrating & workarounds for time zone differences.
LAST QUESTION FOR 2015
Don't worry, we'll be back in 2016 :) https://t.co/7uiWu5y4c2
Q6 What types of connections should we be making and why?
Q6 - all, but global is essential. Our world is getting smaller by the day - kids need to be prepared for all that entails
A6: My Ss made connections with others in school this week by doing RACK activities, (random acts of Christmas kindness).
A6 We should be making connections with other grade levels. HS - College, Middle School to ES & HS, Elementary to MS
A6: More than just sharing finished work: collaboration, communication, & social-emo learning can make a big impact in connections.
Great advice, Fred. Reminds me of a saying we used in industry: Think big, start small, learn fast!
Do you think "be nice" and "be kind" are synonymous? I see very different connotations.
A5: join pd communities like Teachers Talk Live
A6: We should be connecting Ss to community, to other Ss national, and lastly, making connections globally.

Teachers Can't forget the personal. What Students bring into the classroom. The baggage affects us all. https://t.co/o8cJ1jXlAv
I couldn't agree more. It always surprises me that they prefer that method. It is so boring for everyone!
Thanks! They travel around the building and broadcast from various places.
a6 we should be connecting, forming relationships all the time. An investment in others is one in ourselves
What's with all the bots?
Yes, exactly, Superficial connections merely exhaust. Real connections recharge & revitalise
A6: I think connections that help kids experience unstandardized skills r important. many variations. https://t.co/zkIT39zDeC
A6. Connections we make shouldn't have requirement list. Rather, they should be of interest to all, and nudge forward, not back.
A6- connections that matter to the students. Inspire curiosity and excitement for learning.
I think they are very different things
have a great day, enjoy your time off to connect with those you love and those who need love!
A6: Each Ss “adopted” a PreK Ss as their “buddy” and read to them a holiday book.
. The Ken Gordon Bot approves of this message.
A6: We should be making global connections to help mold, shape, and develop global mindsets
Yes! When my professor friends say things like that, I just love them even more. You're awesome!
I think a school newspaper is a great way for students to be connected inside of a school
A6 We need to connect with classes like our own and classes not like our own. We have so much to learn from one another.
One of my daughter's favorite memories of elementary school occurred when as a 6th grader she worked with 1st grade students.
A6 Any connections that helps break down the 4 walls of my classroom
A6) Families and communities, of course. Does anyone feel like they've done all they can do to engage them... or want to do more?
A6: Due to supposed busyness of life, most X's are shallow. Be truly present, listen, and have a real 2 way conversation!

Used connections throughout world to inspire & be inspired 4 . Check it out: https://t.co/pSodGmJuA8 Share YOUR story!
What's the deal with ? Do you question me? Am I Kayako? Am I an actual community? Just what am I?
Remember they feel in total control, & that's what we were taught in teacher school & reinforced for years
A6 Connecting our Ss beyond the walls to experts and other Ss their age.
A6: classroom, school, neighborhood, community, state, national, international. Need 2 connect/teach all levels of connections
One of our schools is k-12 in one building. The connections between grades that teachers/admins facilitate are awesome
That's awesome. Especially, when Ss see they have a voice.
Great question! Is it even possible to have an excuse anymore? https://t.co/P9ephKpXNn
A5: The ? really is whether global mindness is truly at core of your school's philosophy, bc today no obstacle is insurmountable
A6. We should be trying to connect with many people. You never know where they can lead. HS T- collaboration on a community project

Definitely semantics. We're all had "good" PD & "bad" PD. The word "Learning" connotes that it's meaningful & ongoing.
So true! I guess I like riding the crazy train to see where it takes us. More fun!
A6: We need to teach our Ss that is NO MORE BOX! We don't have to think outside of it, because it doesn't exist. Connect away!
Thanks for a great . Enjoy your day and thanks for what you all do for kids. A very rewarding but tough job.

A6: Start with connections at school level, district, state, then go national and international. Amazing to see what can happen.
A6 What types of connections should we be making? Dunno. Depends on needs I suppose. Diverse ones would be my best answer.
A6: Beauty of connection is that one size does NOT fit all. Tap into creativity, personality, passion.
A6 needs 2 rise & become powerful in global learning spaces. is coming.
