All I can find on #asechat tonight is @teacherchalky1 trying to make a profit from getting people to download his teaching resources. Not what I was looking for!

Years 7 and 8 are the ones that make students love or loath science. It’s the chance to engage students and develop the inquiring minds that carry them into GCSE. As important as KS4 & 5.... #asechat

#asechat we find years 7 and 8 hard to create resources for - they are too old for simple #science (principles), and want something more - maybe like simulation activities

Well done for trying to keep #asechat #asechat going.... I think that focus more on real life contexts is perfect for yr 7 and 8... I feel currently it's encroaching on GCSE work too closely.... i think it may be better to look more at science application/ careers etc

The effect if science on real world / news etc rather than force through 3 years of content in to 2 years so GCSE can start in yr9... just strip the whole thing back and stop worrying about a spiral curriculum / 5 year GCSE etc #asechat #puttingthecatamongstthepigeons

I'm a fan of a 5 year science curriculum, but not a five year GCSE science curriculum. I really think if we get it right, GCSE preparation can be left till quite late. #ASEchat

We use real life global context in our STEM challenges that pupils find really engaging #ASEChat https://t.co/SoHBatLHaL ... and even have a doc showing how all our materials for the science curriculum.

Does anyone feel they have cracked assessment at KS3? Do you use GCSE equivalent grades? A totally bespoke system? An off the shelf resource? An exam board curriculum? #ASEchat
  • staffdb66 Oct 22 @ 3:52 PM EDT
Yes... right on trend... national challenges on whole world issues help trigger interest and stretch and challenge students... I have set various challenges from such things before as science club projects #asechat

Well, thank you to all those who (or the one or two that..) took part in tonight's #ASEchat. Hopefully this topic can be explored with a wider audience another time. It's really important! Happy half term to those who have it...
