Hey #mdeschat leaders! Greg- K, #TeamFelegy. Hope all are well tonight. Teaching is a calling for me, and I am thankful for being able to make a positive impact each day.
As we share and collaborate tonight, please use the Q&A format. These are our norms. Feel free to share and ask questions, we are life-long learners :) #mdeschat
Celebrating is key, and I want to take this opportunity to thank YOU for your hard work and dedication for your students! Never stop being amazing! #mdeschat
A1- Along with relationship building and collaboration, it is important to be flexible and have fun! Your joy in and out of the classroom sets the tone. #mdeschat
This entire exchange reeks of awesomeness! Celebration is critical! Even small steps in the right direction deserve celebration. Growth takes time, effort, patience, perseverance. Celebrate the journey. Helps to appreciate the finished product. #mdeschat
Hi Kimberly, Yes, I agree :) and growth is part of the process and there is nothing wrong about it. We must never stop making mistakes and grow. #mdeschat
A2- There are so many good books out there. Teach Like a Champion has lots of good strategies, ideas, and resources for any teacher, whether new or veteran. #mdeschat
A3: So important to offer layered support— official and/or unofficial mentors, PD, co-teaching/observation opportunities, and good old venting time #mdeschat
A3: Give them easily implemented ideas for management of communication and organization of materials. "Here #use this graphic for Parent-Teacher Conferences!" #mdeschat
A3. Join efforts to share ideas, even borders and decorations. Some teachers just need a hand and some feedback. Bulletin Boards could be a nightmare for some. #mdeschat
I LOVE this book! I watched all of his videos in undergrad and took notes! Great advice and reference for many years to come. #mdeschat Thanks @millersvilleu for your amazing Library Resources!
#mdeschat is on fire! Thanks to all that came to share how to support new teachers. New teachers will become great teachers if we support them on their journey!
A4: Encourage teachers to channel energy into strong instruction and feedback as priorities— keep in mind that the extras can bog us down. Self-care and stepping back when you’re overwhelmed is essential. #mdeschat
@SwarthyDaisy pointed this out! Make sure you invest in you and your home. You have to have a strong foundation in your personal value to make a long lasting impact! #mdeschat
When I was doing my internship in an elementary school years ago, my supervising teacher said, “They pay you to work at school, so don’t take any work home. Don’t stay at work past the time you are supposed to be here.” #mdeschat
That's very true! I share it all the time, if you get used to it you'll continue to have a normal life and a family. Key to success; balance! #mdeschat
Great ways to find calm! In my classroom I like to play @YoYo_Ma and @ThePianoGuys. I can hear my Ss hum along to some of the tunes we’ve played more frequently. #mdeschat
In reply to
@missreed, @janercooper, @YoYo_Ma, @ThePianoGuys
This is so true! I learned this very early on. Would take work home and never get around to even touching it, so I stopped. A difference maker, for sure. #mdeschat
I find this to be difficult as a Special Educator because if Student IEP's and all the documents that go along with them are not complete it's a legal matter. No excuses. Teams need to work together to improve the process! #mdeschat
I understand how tedious those papers are, but I feel that if the team collaborates it should be easier for all parts. Maybe I'm asking for too much ;) #mdeschat
A5. Build strong relationships w/ Ss and Ps, use nonverbal cues, try call and response, be consistent and fair, be confidential/ talk 1:1... best management = engaging lessons #mdeschat
Is your focus on creating more classroom rules or on creating a more engaging lesson for your students? The best defense against classroom management problems is an engaging lesson! #edchat#teacherlife#thursdaythoughts
We are using Data Wise, but when you have new teachers from other countries it becomes a challenge for them to buy in, especially when some have never used data before #mdeschat
Faith-based answer: I feel that God has called me to teach, and I am thankful to #WalkInTheCalling daily. Keeps me focused on the work, and growing daily for my Ss. When I stop learning, I need to stop teaching. #mdeschat
