The #educoach hashtag is used by instructional coaches around the world. We chat each Wednesday at 8pm CST on Twitter and use the hashtag throughout the week to share resources, ask questions and collaborate with instructional coaches.
I'm an educational consultant in the area of teacher leadership, coaching, literacy and ELL. Today's #eduwin was a spending time with a staff learning more about the area of writing. #educoach
My #eduwin is Virtual Coach @KathyPerrett, the coach of coaches who offers wonderful support and encouragement -- such as she did today for me! #educoach
A1 I gain so much from coaching. I seek to find coaches in many parts of my life from health/fitness, to professional and business coaching. The reflective dialogue & goal setting provides another layer of accountability. #educoach
A1: Reflection is a key to teacher growth and improvement. Back in my Reading Recovery training days -- it was the biggest challenge to learn reflection. But what power! #educoach
A1: Instructional coaches have an inner compass that points them toward the interests & identified needs of the school, never losing sight of schools' vision, mission, core values and goals. #educoach
A2: #educoach Like @KathyPerrett mentioned earlier -- coaching from fitness trainer, physical therapist, chorale director for community chorus, directors in community theater, etc.

A2: I work in an environment where coaching is the norm and the expectation and I have grown tremendously as an educator, a person and a teacher. So empowering! #educoach

Common consensus as to both the hows and whys of coaching. Constant practice in coaching and being coached. Making the conscious decision to change the paradigm from consultant to coach #educoach
A2: In order to truly change practices, PD should occur over time & be ongoing. Research shows when PD describes a skill to Ts, only 10% transfer it into practice. When Ts are coached over time thru implementation, 95% typically transfer the skill. #educoach
So true. I feel so fortunate to have been trained by Bev Showers (of Joyce/Showers) as I became a consultant/coach many years ago. Coaching provides a great return on investment. #educoach
A3: address comments about “fixing teachers” immediately. Engage teachers who are recognized as leaders early and often. Advertise your varied services. #educoach
A3: clarity and conversation about the role and definition of a coach. Common language is SO important. Have been in a school where ‘coach’ really meant evaluator...which led to ineffectiveness. #educoach
A4 I've witness a great shift in school culture when teachers are provided time to peer coach and collaborate. #educoach So often Ts never have the opportunity to see colleagues in their own school teach. Great things are happening under ever school roof! Celebrate it!

Video can be hard. Can they first use video to watch themselves (without coach)? I've been using @SibmeApp w/coaches this year. They watch and reflect on (w/time stamp featurer) before I ever see it. #educoach

A5: Recognizing individual strengths in teachers and then providing time for teachers to meet around strengths?!? I am thinking of something like speed dating to introduce teacher strengths to each other ?!????? #educoach
Did you any specific model/plan to organize your "model classrooms." We continue to help area teacher leaders in this and are always looking for resources. #educoach
We are still trying to determine ways to effectively utilize a model classroom teacher! She is willing -- but we are running out of ideas. I'm going to ask her about @SibmeApp#educoach

A5: Modeling lessons, co-teaching, brainstorming strategies as engaging Ts w/ an instructional strategy in the class is more difficult than learning the strategy itself. #educoach
A6: Our former principal set up grade level "minutae" meetings over one of their lunches in our 6-day cycle. The PE, music T's and counselor take lunchroom duty to free up a grade level team. #educoach
A6 I had a coach realize a benefit to video taping her coaching conversations with @sibmeapp. She was coaching a friend. Because of being video taped they made better use of their TIME! They both noticed it. #educoach
A6: (cont'd) That way they can talk more about students and their instruction during PLC time, instead of talking about next week's lesson plans and notes to run off. #educoach
A7: transparency and ‘walking the walk’. Showing willingness to be coached as well as coaching. Clearly and consistently sharing the ‘why’ of coaching. #educoach
A7: In our Buffalo Sch. Dist. Character project, we provide Mentor/Coaches, written Character Connection Newsletter, conference phone calls w/ school champions, sharing how to use instructional resources, & short videos on implementation, best practices & integration #educoach
