Hi #saskedchat! My name is Kara, a 2nd year teacher in lovely Hudson Bay, SK. I teach Pre-K in the morning and prep coverage in the afternoon. So excited to be back and chatting with you all!
Hey guys. I know we are worlds apart, but this is a good chat for me. AND....its in the 60's and school is cancelled tomorrow. I keep braggung about that for some reason. Stephen from KY on board. #saskedchat
A2: Hope to continue expanding my education in Early Childhood through several upcoming endeavours! Continue to spend time with positive colleagues who uplift me #saskedchat

A2: Feel that I have been thriving fine for a few years so will continue same strategies. Lots of rest, mindfulness, motto "Today before Tomorrow," leaving work at school more often. These work for me! #saskedchat
No heat and no water for a significant portion of time. That's about it. Haven't seen a cancellation since 2008(and we were on the 4 day week so made the day up on a later Friday). #saskedchat
A3: Connect with positive and passionate colleagues, in person and via technology. Continue to strive for a balance between professional and personal life. Try my darnedest to keep my desk clean! #saskedchat
A3 I really need to keep my lists going, prioritizing the work and reflecting on what gets done and needs to get done. I also make it a habit to always have a smile on my face. Positivity is contagious so need to spread it! #saskedchat
A3. Stepping outside my box. We all have stuff to learn. These twitter chats have opened my thought process. We all face the same challenges. #saskedchat
https://t.co/U4AIDUdBCa my kids in their sports choices... connect with my amazing wife... continue to learn new teaching strategies to engage Ss,.. remember mindfulness strategies to re-connect and re-charge. Have a drink. #saskedchat
Family is so important. We sometimes don’t take the time we should - they need to be a priority as does our own physical and mental health! #saskedchat
A3. I'm using Seesaw to help me with parent communication and portfolios for my students. I am also trying to plan more student directed learning. #saskedchat
A1 My word this year is “Begin”. As a procrastinator I need to remind myself to just get started. Things are never as difficult as I imagine. #saskedchat
A3: Repeating here but my practices included: Mindful Morning Practice, going to bed at a decent time, leaving work at work, leaving home at home, taking things one item at at time. #saskedchat
A4 Getting up early to allow for reading and reflecting. Getting out of work in time for a good rip on the track with time to wind down and think. #saskedchat
A4: I do Learning Stories with my Pre-K students, where I document what they do in their play. Creating them helps me reflect on what I can do to extend/deepen the play experiences. I can also see themes or trends emerging that we can explore as a class. #saskedchat
A4. Try to make notes, take pictures, respond to Ss' s work and then make adjustments to short/long term plans... which change daily .. or hourly... or as I conference with Ss. It's messy but learning can be like that I guess. #saskedchat
A4: My administrative partner and I spend a lot of time together reflecting on our practice and setting goals and actions. Very helpful to have an accountability partner. #saskedchat

I have been venturing into the world of sketch noting. I’m not good. It isn’t pretty, but man does it help with my metacognition and retention. #saskedchat
A4. Blogging and self reflection. Not a class goes by that i dont ask "what could i have done better". The blogging part is not only for others, its also for me. #saskedchat
I was doing this for awhile too. Have a cute notebook full of them but it has fallen off as of late. May need to revisit. Thanks for the reminder! #saskedchat
It’s taking notes and adding pictures into them! I usually do them while reading PD books, but I have been asking the students to apply them as well. #saskedchat
A4. Another primary French teacher at my school and I meet daily for chats about our teaching practices and how our students have engaged in the activities of the day. #saskedchat
A4 This is an area I want to continue to grow in. I’ve started to do it a bit, but I need to start writing more- jotting down my thoughts and really thinking about what worked, what didn’t, and what I do next time #saskedchat
A5: The "bedtime" setting on my phone! It rings 15 minutes before I plan to have lights out and I stick to it quite diligently during the week. Getting a good sleep makes a world of difference! #saskedchat
A5 Started practicing gratitude every morning and often with my students. My #oneword2018 is "Renew." Planning to renew some of my passions including writing on my blog. #saskedchat
A3 I’m trying to make my mornings less stressful by packing my lunch, showering, and picking out my clothes the night before. Then I have time for exercise in the morning. #saskedchat
I plug all my electronics in and then read. I find it helps to calm me down. Even 10 minutes of reading. #saskedchat I also have been doing a Gratitude Journal - kinda ;) - writing about the good that happens each day.
A4 - I have started asking other teachers for feedback! I can take the words that they say, and apply it the next time I teach! I find it so so helpful as a new teacher! #saskedchat

A6. I need to let go of trying to have everything perfectly planned. Leaving school and spending time with friends is worth more than having a perfectly planned day. #saskedchat
A6: I need to let go of "day off guilt." I still have a hard time not going into the school on weekends and taking a true day off. I am getting better. #saskedchat
A5- I have started taking care of myself! I found that going to the gym, getting more sleep & eating healthier allows me to be the best teacher that I can be! #saskedchat
I found that having a set time allowed me to better utilize my time after school. When I knew that the alarm was set, I used the time well rather than wandering, relaxing, visiting...#saskedchat

From what I see, you can have as little or as much structure as you want - it’s very structured with how it’s se tup but you can customize as much as you want. #saskedchat

I think I’m making my own structure within it and not worrying about making it pretty. I love the doodle-y cute ones, but have accepted that won’t be mine. #saskedchat

TA: Continue to blog, tweet, and post on Instagram to share my teaching adventures. This question made me realize that I really need to take my guitar back to school to play with my students. #saskedchat
Thank you for joining #saskedchat tonight! We hope you the chat will help you begin or continue to develop and grow as you Thrive throughout this year!
Working in Iqaluit made me realize how important it is to laugh, have fun, take time to pause and just enjoy what we are doing - my Ss & I had so much fun while working very hard #saskedchat
