Hi Everyone. My name is Katie from Seattle, Washington. I am a student at the University of Washington. This is my first time doing a twitter chat! #AdultUW#flipclass#flipclasschat
Hi Katie! My name is Jacob and I attend the University of Georgia. This is also my first Twitter chat and I'm in an intro to education type class, so I'm new in every aspect, but looking to learn. #flipclass#edit2000E
Hi #flipclass! Think of tonight as an edcamp style chat. No leader, just jump in and share. Ask questions. Don't forget the #flipclass and #flipclasschat tags. Have fun!!!
#flipclass#flipclasschat#edit2000E keep in mind I'm very inexperienced on the teaching end of education, but does flipping the classroom create a larger gap between gifted and non gifted students because the gifted learn well without a strict schedule/teacher? Thanks
Hi. My name is Michelle. I'm also from Seattle @UWCollegeOfEd Doing this twitter chat is part of our class assignments. Is it really cancelled or just free formed? #flipclass#flipclasschat
Today in class we worked with @bacon_world lesson planning approach of chunk, flip, guide, laugh. Has this been something anyone else has tried? #flipclass#AdultUW
To me the #flipclass is more hands on and encouraged the student to work with and help each other not finish the task as fast as you can alone #Flipclasschat#AdultUW
So when they come back to the classroom after having tried to learn material at home, working in a group helps facilitate discussions? Do kids get discouraged if they don't have much to contribute to conversations? #flipclass#flipclasschat#edit2000E
Its important for the students to know every comment is acceptable, even if it was hard say it was hard, you wont be the only one who thinks so. The biggest thing is building that relationship before the disscusion so they feel comfortable talking #flipclass#AdultUW
Don’tknow if there is research on it but I’d think #flipclass gives you the time you need to help struggling students catch up some to those who just “get it” (gifted or not), but also the time to encourage those who are gifted to pursue enrichment topics. #differentiation
Um I’m going to say what I’ve said I’d do in past summers - write a set of learning goals for each course (based on our mandated curriculum) then design my courses instruction and assessment around those #flipclass#flipclasschat ...and build a lightboard
Hi, I’m Steph Miranda. I’m a sophomore at the University of Washington and I’m studying Early Childhood Family Studies. My dream is to be a special education teacher. #FlipClass#flipclasschat#AdultUW
I couldn’t agree more, @flippingwithjoy! I think what you may be trying to get at is #flipclass enhancing productive “wait time”. This is often described as when the thinking happens. It reduces disparity because it still challenges those who “get it” to still be engaged.

Hey does anyone have experience helping those who seem to take forever to progress through mastery style units to proceed a little faster and find success despite our needing to have an end point for the unit? Or is that end point the problem? #flipclass
Hmm, this is making me see “wait time” in a broader way. I had only ever heard the phrase as referring to the time between when you ask the class a question and when you call on a student to answer — guess that looks a little different in #flipclass! #flipclasschat
My class for #flipclass, #flipclasschat, or even #AdultUW is: Is the Laugh design for action interwoven throughout the first three, or should it be emphasized at the end with a reflective or discussion? What has been most effective in your experience?
I got somewhat good at trying a system when I had a semester I only taught math, but I’m finding it trickier on the science side — I feel like I need to go on a cottage retreat to think it through or something family-free heh #flipclass#flipclasschat
The system I developed was great for telling kids & parents exactly what their strengths and weaknesses were, but I was handing back papers with scores marked almost in hieroglyphics and that was hard for kids who just want 1 number #flipclass#flipclasschat
That’s what I love about standards based. It’s easier to show stakeholders what’s going well and what needs improvement instead of just a general number. But yeah then I would have to translate all of that information into a single grade at the end of the semester/year #flipclass
Yes! The “laugh” is part of the design for action that emphasizes feeling more comfortable and open to learn with adult peers through incorporating jokes in a math class, for example. You can read more here: https://t.co/mBjC07v1YQ#AdultUW#flipclass#flipclasschat
Ah, I just noticed you are a math teacher. Maybe I should blog sometime about the system I tried. I think I learned about SBG the summer of 2012 and about flipped learning in March 2013, and I’ve only recently had the moment of “duh, they could work so well together!” #flipclass
