Nice to have you here Kristi!
-
LACEY! happy to see you again
-
uses the Q# & A# format. Ex: respond to Q1 by starting your tweet with A1 - remember to include hashtag
-
Erika Burkhardt, CIT at HPHS. Intermittent tweeting b/c I'm at Torchy's Tacos...
-
-
To save characters Ss=students, Ts= teachers, Ps=Parents, Ad=Admin
-
-
A1: explore apps to encourage my students to think outside the box
-
A1: encourage creativity and exploration based on student interest
-
Jenni Lamoreaux, First Grade, Hyer
-
Q1: by collaborating with other teachers, pinterest, twitter
-
A1: I encourage students to explore and use apps that allow them to think outside of the box.
-
Glad you could make it Jenni
-
Ss love to have that freedom
-
A1: I try to allow Ss the freedom & flexibility to use tech. based on their interests. I praise & recognize their efforts.
-
A1: LOTS of Ss choice. If they find a tool that they can use to meet the task, I say let them give it a try!
-
A1: Ss choose tech tool to achieve learning goals.
-
A1. With elem Ss, it’s important for them to try new things but within COPPA guidelines.
-
A1: By offering lots of open-ended creative opportunities where Ss can begin to appreciate how others interpret an assignment.
-
I think learning new apps with them is so valuable for the Ss to see
-
Do you have any that your Ss have used this year?
-
A1 Pt. 2 Students can be innovative with many tools, even a Google doc. Fav this year was Robotics with our 3rd and 4th gr Ss.
-
I learn so much by seeing what other Ts use, try, and suggest.
-
-
good point! Even if an app is bright and shiny and exciting we still have to check for any privacy issues.
-
Doesn't it amaze what they can do? Or even how they use tool differently than we expect
-
It is all about those learning targets!
-
-
OH...do you have a samaple lesson you could share? This sounds GREAT!
-
I am amazed by all the ways you can use Google Apps...they are AWESOME!
-
For Earth Day Ss created a picture using the tools on Wixie depicting their idea of a clean and beautiful world.
-
Q2: What lesson has been your best to enhance COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION among your students? https://t.co/UsTecBrZiN
-
What a great way to focus on the learning and incorporate tech!
-
Indeed. Innovation includes using known tools in new/unexpected ways.
-
A2: Create stories together using Story Wheel; partner talk with Pebble Go
-
A2: Students worked together in groups to create word story problems using Wixie.
-
A2: safari montage needs and environment group writing activity
-
Q2: Google docs and showing the students how to comment on their documents
-
A2: Our best was using QR codes with our 4th grade buddies.
-
A2: Thankful our Ss are learning comm & collab via and mystrery hangouts to build their confidence and skills
-
A2. Robotics-Each student had a role. Tthey had to solve their problem as a group. They def learned more than tech on that one!
-
A2: My Ss created their 1st Google form. They collaborated w their friends to answer.
-
A2: Ss dialogue via forum re. others' projects. True collaboration is tough 4 them; HS Ss just want 2 finish b/c they r so busy.
-
That is a GREAT lesson! How did they do?
-
-
I bet that was fun! After all the word probs they have to do, i imagine you got good ones
-
Never heard of pebble go. What does it do?
-
That sounds very involved. How was it?
-
I LOVE QR codes. Did the Ss have fun?
-
-
I LOVE that! It is so fun when Ss get real results to work with!
-
-
they do it at home now for fun!!! :)
-
They did! Ps loved hearing Ss reading their ocean riddle.
-
-
But giving and receiving feedback good/bad is a skill they will need...sooon!
-
-
I still had them do it...& most of the time their feedback was the same as mine once I reviewed the work.
-
TOO funny!! And you've also taught them how to "IM" nicely...Congrats!
-
A3: kiddle, google, pebblego
-
A3: I model different websites to the Ss and we brainstorm ways to search the information.
-
A3: search different websites for students and discuss ways to search
-
Q3: I show them how important it is to use more than one source
-
How fun that Ps got to get involved!
-
-
A3: Search w/in Google Slides for copyright-free images/cite source. Look up A w/tips from Alan November. https://t.co/js13fxLgfg
-
A3. Young Ss-show appropriate sites to search ex: pebble go. use kid safe search ex https://t.co/raV5mtTCpQ simple biblio
-
A3: I activate prior knowledge 1st & have walk through the project/activity w them. Let them practice independently.
-
But did the Ss listened more to what peers said or you?
-
-
A3 For older elem: Google research tool. Ss need to have a plan. moderate biblio (not MLA yet)
-
LOVE that do you use the CTRL+F to find the content on the page. That is my lifesaver!
-
...drop mic...and thank you!!!
-
So great to hear that you all are modeling these things for the younger Ss!
-
-
Hm...I kept pointing out how adept Ss were at evaluating each others' work, but I'm not sure how much they reacted.
-
Because they don't all have a paper dictionary in their desk! Such a great resource
-
that is good! I always did the watch me/talk me through it/do it yourself process
-
A3: It is so important for Ts to model this in class, always show sources, and remind Ss to get permission to use others stuff
-
IMAGES HAVE SOURCES!!! Ss seem to forget that all the time.
-
-
Q4: How do your Ss show their CRITICAL THINKING, PROBLEM SOLVING, AND DECISION MAKING skills w/ tech? https://t.co/Nlv5B7msN7
-
A4: This is an area of growth for me. I am looking for ways to help students improve here.
-
A4: creating projects on wixie
-
Q4: Working with the tech partners before coming and asking me for help.
-
A4: creating math story problems on Wixie ; readers response with Raz Kids and Tumblebooks; Pebble Go research
-
Kindergarten vocab definitions can be so funny!
-
-
A4: My Ss are still working on their problem solving skills when using technology.
-
A4: Making the application meet their needs=fantastic problem-solving situation 4 Ss 2 develop perseverance, 2 think differently.
-
A4 ePortfolios is a great example of showing CT, PS, and DM especially through their reflection on entries.
-
ITs so hard to know how to teach this...it feels like you just know how to based on how you learn
-
A4: Ss have learned that if they can’t login to a learning site through chrome, they know to try Internet Explorer.
-
A4: I like to walk around ask Qs, listen to discussions, and learn from the Ss as they are working. https://t.co/wvBaPUUASS
-
That is so good to use each other as resources first
-
-
Another skill all Ss have to learn. How to work w/ people that work differently than you do
-
A4: Like to see students trying new tools so that they help Ts and other Ss learn how the tech works. We all learn together!
-
DigCit needs 2 b so integrated you don't realize you're doing it. U r probably doing more than u think.
-
but this skill is different in 1st vs. 7th grade! I'm sure your Ss are building these skills
-
A4: Also like to see Ss use a tool for a totally different outcome than just the "expected" Means they have figured it out!
-
-
Q5: Have your students showcased their DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP knowledge in a lesson or activity? https://t.co/XdFpFqwyd5
-
A5: we have a digital citizenship lesson coming up in the next few weeks
-
A5: I feel that my students have shown me they are good digital citizen and model appropriate behaviors when using their laptops.
-
A5: They show responsibility with chromebooks and iPads.
-
Q5: We recently watched a Kid President
-
, You have done SO MUCH work for this chat tonight. You are marvelous!!! 😄
-
I'd love to know how it goes!
-
A5: Ss have helped me compose an email after a lesson on being courteous and kind online.
-
A5: Because we apply technology on a daily basis, I feel that Ss are very responsible when displaying digital citizenship.
-
-
A5: Also like the way InCtrl ties the digital badges/lessons into the Core Subjects! YAY!
-
taking care of tech is definitely the first sign they get it
-
-
do the Ss have a favorite? He is TOO CUTE!
-
-
It is amazing what you can find out there! So glad my fam lets me "haunt" the liv room and work
-
who did you send it to? Can you send ma a copy? WHAT A GREAT IDEA!!!
-
-
it is almost innate with the younger Ss. It when they get a little more freedom that they go wild...
-
-
Q6: How can you determine if your Ss have learned the TECHNOLOGY OPERATIONS AND CONCEPTS needed in class? https://t.co/PuNlqabS5q
-
A6: via class discussions with students and in class observations
-
A6: observation, conversation, teachable moments
-
A6: I am able to access this through observation and conversations with my students.
-
A6. It shows by how much help they need to accomplish grade appropriate tasks by end of year
-
that was the best way for me too!
-
-
A6: Ss can run the lesson, teach others to use an app, troubleshoot in the classroom, make tutorials for Ts & Ps 2 show learning.
-
A6: I feel thatSs data, observations, informal assessments, and behavior display their readiness and comprehension.
-
love those teachable moments!
-
discussions that all Ss get to participate and figure it out is great!
-
It was an email thanking our buddies for helping us learn. Not sure I can round that one up but I can try if you'd like.
-
A6: But really if Ss can troubleshoot their own issues and call parts by their real names, then the Ss know the TO&C
-
I LOVE when the Ss become the Ts for their Peers, Ts and Parents!
-
A6: By observation, by their final products, and by watching them help each other.
-
don't hunt too much. It is just such a great idea...a little sad i never thought of it! U ROCK!
-
A6: Just have to remember that TO&C vary greatly with age, tech usage, and S maturity. Have to teach to what your Ss understand
-
Great Chat tonight...and tons of new resources and ideas!
-
Thank you for moderating a wonderful chat tonight
-
Remember to follow people from the chat to keep the conversation going
-
Thanks you b-day girl for joining us! Tell the fam thanks too!
