A1: Ss are encouraged to teach their teachers what they learned in the STEM Lab.
Coach Larson here to represent our awesome Health and PE at AMMS -- ready to learn.
A1 4.0 allows Ss to respond to Ss in a moderated environment. A great tool to amplify & learning
A1 1 of the best ways 2 check 4 understanding is 2 see if a student can teach a concept so agree with this
A1 yes students should lead others especially those who don't always speak up
- Make anything you can share with us??
Currently working on project in which students share info in Google Classroom
- What are some ways they do that??
@ sorry I could not make it!
- I also love the "voting" function. It helps Ss want to do their best!
A1a: also love 'Retweet/Delete/Favorite' as a way for students to feel heard not just as presenters but as audience and peers
A1: Through collaboration is a great way to share and learn with peers. Love using student Padlets and group videos
- What are some ways you have yours do it?
A1 I was just talking about this today with a student. Student led learning.
- I need to play more with Classroom. I don't know enough about it.
A1: love using to have students share what they know, learn from others, and reflect
- I can ALWAYS find a use for in the classroom!! :)
A1: Tools and websites like Powtoons, Educreations, SeeSaw, Animoto, Padlet, Weebly, Prezi, Windows MovieMaker, and Touchcast.
When they learn a new or tools so they encourage their teachers to try it out by teaching them how to use it.
Jenny Johnson from Autrey Mill here at 5 seasons!
A1: We combined Socratic Seminar with Padlet.
- Awesome! The link will get shared when we archive the chat!!
The questions options is so fun!
A1 "Teach Each Other: Open Discussion in Lit" English Journal-- will share
Totally wanna play with Google classroom. Looks amazing. Anyone tried google cardboard?
- And it's now approved by . YAY!!
Having a flipped classroom in elementary can be tough due to homework limitations.
love google, took awhile but 110% on board
A1 1st year using it. User friendly. Students adapt quickly.
- Ts can't back down when the Ss are stepping up!
Just reading everyone's advice
- I haven't because I LOVE VR!!
is also a great way for Ss to organize their voice through classroom artifacts
Facilitate sm group collab learning of new tool. They teach class
Save that point, we have that topic coming later
A1: I love as a way for Ss to teach others through video, annotation, live web links, Google forms.. etc!
love that idea. Kinda like a challenge to show your learning through new tech
The bolder Ss shared the quieter students' responses. Everyone cheered!!!! Great class. S. Oliver
I want to use this more w/ SS
Checking in and ready to learn!
A2: Use Ss Interest Surveys to select Ss for jobs during group work and extra talent group teams.
- YEP!! That's what we were just saying!!
Twitter chat cheat copy and paste # so you don't accidentally put the wrong one
A2 is a mastery based portfolio tool. Students can choose how they want to show mastery.
Can it work for science? (Ss)
I give students a choice in the rotations they complete, who to work with, what they read/write, what they use to create
Give Ss a choice in how they will demonstrate their learning will strengthen their learning. https://t.co/cQkNlBNlM4
A2: SO MUCH YES y not let them use their best tools as we do as Ts- videos, slides, write, speak-so many tech (and non) options
A2: Help students think outside box to present knowledge
- Love how our music members know that is possible in your rooms too!!
A2 I'm a project based Choice Board fool. I love when students come up with ideas beyond my choices.
A2: Allow Ss to self select and take turns as needed. Strengths become visible and group agrees to continue
A2: tic toe projects are a great way to incorporate learning styles as well as interest. choice stations on a standard
A2: We are introducing multiple tools that are similar but w/ a little twist.
There is no point in Personalizing learning if you're not personalizing assessment
With a rubric, why does it matter what path they take to get to the end result of learning!
A2 Explicitly teach different tools so ss can make an informed choice to demonstrate learning https://t.co/E7QqHCxyMX
A2: choice is so important, even let students tell you what works for them best! Just happened to me today!
As a bit of a control-freak, I like choice and options with constraints. :)
A2: Through the use of thinglink, photostory and kickstarter. Ss are able to see a sample and choose how build the idea.
PBL-great platform to use strength-based learning bc Ss connect to real world
A2 sometimes can be a challenge thinking outside box. Allowing voice and choice is a good remedy
A2 Love PBL if done right. Real world.
- Connect with . She's a superstar with PBL!
A2 choice means sometimes choosing NOT TO!
Q3: Not much writing yet, but working on orally communicating what was good and what could be improved.
I use choice boards and often allow them them to switch it up
A3 Post lesson video reflections or discussions using . Creating a in Ss
A2:I'm all here for a choice board, but we're in the business of closing gaps and lifting our ceiling! I aim for TIERED choices.
Through s data binders, ss reflect on their growth and upload their reflection to seesaw for comments https://t.co/AGy6YKbtwt
A3 hard bc ss want to know the grade don't care about how/why. Frustrating.
Love collab spaces where able to communicate back and for with Ss and they are able to reflect on their time
A3 with SO MANY tools that can be used for reflection the main thing Ss need is an opportunity
- I think we have to work on changing that mindset with Ss. It's a slow process.
Google forms is a great way to get some anonymous feedback from Ss
I would like to to more reflection in my classroom
- I agree. It's just not done enough in general. It's hard and needs to be practiced.
A2 Use Bloom's Tax as guideline & Ss choose to creat project using at least one from each level of thinking ; <3 it!
A3: This requires a change in teaching. Reflection time is as important as teaching time.
- I always wish I had done more of it.
the collab spaces are one of my fav parts of our media center. So cool to see the Ss thinking.
A3: Just did my first reflection as a TOD using google forms today
A3 great idea. Time is tough though. I make my sharing time a sort of reflection time.
Late night run to target will rejoin when I get there
will get better every year. More yrs of learning personalized means student better adapted to the process!
A3 Sometimes it can be easier to have students reflect than us. Of course you grade papers but to truly reflect it's hard
Love it! Gotta try out this year!
A3: Ss reflect through exit tickets, journals, and peer sharing.
A3. Students also reflect on daily rotations through videos, comments, or pictures on seesaw.
A3: (gotta remember that part) If you don't reflect you can't change or improve
At the bottom of my choice boards I have a part where students reflect on what they did on & respond to someone else
checking in a little late but I'm here! A3: providing TIME for a debrief/reflection for ss and Ts...and protecting that time!
A quick Form with a reflection each night might be better HW than what normally goes home!
LOVE our teachers learning learning Twitter!
A3 could an open discussion count as reflection?
A3 Daily journal prompts, many of which were suggested by Ss, and discussion follows; own their inquiry paths.
I do more reflecting as the lead coach than I used to in the classroom. Getting better every year!
A3: I love the newer features of Polleverywhere. Padlet is a oldie, but goodie. As well as, Edmodo and SeeSaw.
- Love that Ss suggest their own writing prompts!
It's making sure everyone has a voice.
Haha I'm taking pics of all the great ideas to share with our Ts
- I think so! Some students may need to hear from others to learn how to do it better!
glad you are joining us!!
A2: Regardless of options given students choose whats easiest/most familiar with.Lucky 2 have@MissRioux 2 integrate technology
There will be a transcript of the chat with all the resources
A3: Student-led conferences great for Ss to reflect and be accountable for their progress. Connection to home more meaningful
A: Included reflection as part of PD course for teachers
don't forget about Microsoft Pulse

YES! More Ts should let Ss do that!! https://t.co/qL7T8lMMhH
A3: Student-led conferences great for Ss to reflect and be accountable for their progress. Connection to home more meaningful
Ts may use audio, video, app, or write for upcoming PD courses.
A4: Ss are studying weather and building their own tools to measure different weather conditions.
- Much better idea than just having them use ready-made ones!
I started working on real video projects with my 5th graders. Scripts, storyboards, multi camera, editing, etc getting better!
We had fun creating chicken coops last year for our baby chicks! 😀
Ss are building and marketing a stylus so they use inking w/ on their laptops.

- Oooo, multi-camera! Maybe they need to film a for me one week!
A4 Bloom's Tax choices as structure set both Ss & Ts free to create their own innovations; owned their own learning.
A4: Create a like lions did! Get more people to spread the word on Tech can transform a school
This year I have two kiddos who are working on getting their channel up that will have info on grammar and RELA
A4: Students are going to present in class
A4: So excited for innovation to happen in the discovery lab this year! Need some ideas!
Speaking of which..... Music TS.....think your Ss would want to have a contest and write a theme song??
A4: Kindergarten Ss are creating baskets (out of trash) to collect their harvest from the plants they are growing in class.
- Any limits on what you guys have to focus on??
- When?? I want to see it!
Using a wiki to create a social network for elements! Or Cell analogies
T are launching Class OneNote, Ss learning how to use tools, staff is tweeting as part of faculty mtg reflection,
Will keep you in the loop.

A4:We kicked off our with a citywide for the staff in an effort to break the barriers that prevent PLCs&PD.
Craig Gendreau late to the party
A5: Sometimes I think the basic question of "Why" can be more powerful than you think. I do it with my own kids all the time!
A5: Working hard on this in our new STEM Lab. Working whole group to show process & get them excited to create their own.
A5 are cool tools to give Ss opportunity to show mastery and critical thinking
- Better late than never! Glad you joined!
- Unless you're me and you just happen to randomly find almost all of the clues.
A4: I'd like to try a Not a Box/Making Life Easier Invention comp for the school.Inspired by this book. https://t.co/tNsrRXTJMJ
A5: Ask lots of why's and don't give answers so freely. Tell Ss they have everything they need to succeed then give a challenge
A5: listening to students conversations and using that as a formative assessment.
A5 Create opportunites for Ss to figure it out and apply what their learned in live scenarios
A5: creating real world thinkers is our goal! Creating future citizens of our society. Critical thinking w/ academics & more
A5: Present students with multiple sources and have them judges which is most reliable
Asking "why" in math is the best critical thinking question ever! https://t.co/NolwJ07wn4
A5: Sometimes I think the basic question of "Why" can be more powerful than you think. I do it with my own kids all the time!
Someone mentioned flipping content for elem Ss being challenging. GooseChase could be the answer!
- Bahahaha! Thank you, friend!
A5 Always ask "why"? Always ask "what would that look like"?Challenge the "right" answers! Best classes do this.
A5: Provide challenging tasks or projects that are open-ended. Asking questions like "how to do know or how can you prove it?
- YES! Talk to . He stumped the entire & team with his!
A5 An open-ended structure (oxymoron!) can free Ss to innovate & create; EJ article will share
Not me, he wouldn't let me play!!!
Love when students connect their favorite song with a concept we're working on - creates questions! https://t.co/oVTOH81pMb
Yes we do!! Get them to think about the next step! https://t.co/piyuKHO75Z

- Control without control. :)
A5: learned 6 thinking hats at summer summit and been using them to teach kids how to think about their thinking-CritThinking
A6: MakerCamp 2016 was the poster child for this.
A6: they can do more than we think we can sometimes. Great answers can come from unexpected places sometimes.
A6: I think this is another one that can be answered with PBL. Right, ??
- Agreed! Never underestimate kids!!
A6: During discovery labs where Ss had to design their own bridge that held a certain amount of weight
A6: It's hard seeing the look of frustration on a kid's face, but you know it's for the best when they're learning!
- There's so much thinking involved in that! I love those opportunities!
A6: we did an in class where students had to create a product that they thought would make the world better
