#miched Archive

The #michED chat is a grassroots effort dedicated to giving teachers, students, and parents across Michigan a bigger voice in the conversation about education in our state. We welcome all voices through a variety of projects, media, and social networking. We’re trying to address educational issues through apolitical conversation, spreading ideas and stories of success from Michigan classrooms across the state, and helping teachers and students regain the courage to connect and demonstrate that schools in Michigan are creating amazing opportunities for learning. We want the face and voice of education in Michigan to be a mural of shared experiences and positive examples of connected learning.

A2: For students, the class expectations have been set. Tis the season for a lot of student inquiry, arguments/discussions, and giving the Ss even more of a voice. #miched Also I have no windows.

This is a great focus. Let's not lose sight of how important we are as role models. Do our students see us as "excited to learn"? #MichED

Q2: #miched I teach all 11 all day, so we are doing a poem a day. I’m in heaven. They are suggesting such great poems and songs (except for the kid who tried to Rickroll me, is that even a thing anymore?? 😂) Ae have been laughing all week with that one.

  • conrad_chris Apr 18 @ 8:33 PM EDT
We are dragging. Be proactive with us! "Have you tried this cool new [cool new idea]" I'm really tired as the year wraps up, but if I get something new and shiny, I'll still try to give it a go. #miched

A3: Things have run smooth @Creekside_MS so far. Test seems a bit longer than projected times for about half of our Ss in 8th grade. #miched
  • AmyLynnRever Apr 18 @ 8:36 PM EDT
A3: Haven't had to proctor yet, but kids have been twitchier between testing days. Cabin fever plus being stuck at a computer for hours equals: #miched
  • conrad_chris Apr 18 @ 8:36 PM EDT
A3: Our HS staff that organized the test--Principals, counseling staff (whole other thread...), and more, really knocked organization out of the part. Now if we didn't need to do it.... #miched
  • AmyLynnRever Apr 18 @ 8:37 PM EDT
We had more kids making up tests today than I remember in previous years too. #miched

A3: I'm wondering how the snow days in Mid Michigan and north effected testing schedules #MichED
  • tmaynard5 Apr 18 @ 8:39 PM EDT
We had to push our testing schedule back one day due to a snow day on Monday. #miched
    In reply to @RachelleinMI
  • RachelleinMI Apr 18 @ 8:40 PM EDT
A3: have to give a shout out to @JanelleBross . Sick kids on test day, but because she is uber prepared, and her team is a well-oiled machine, the day went off without a hitch! #leadership #mylsps #MichED
  • RachelleinMI Apr 18 @ 8:41 PM EDT
Q4: What will you do to transition students back to learning after testing? And how will you bring the "fun" of learning to the challenge? #MichED
  • RebSYoung Apr 18 @ 8:41 PM EDT
A3: Running smoothly, just way too much of it, between MSTEP, NWEA, and additional Extensive assessments to complete the #IRIP data gathering requirements #MichEd
  • conrad_chris Apr 18 @ 8:43 PM EDT
A4: At HS, it is all day--I simply don't see the testers. I treat it like a weekend. Welcome back. Today is a school day. Let's learn something. I try to make most days enjoyable to learn and if not enjoyable, at least engaging. #miched
  • RebSYoung Apr 18 @ 8:43 PM EDT
A4: Field trips and hands on projects for sure! Time to put the FUN back in fundamentals!! 🙌 #MichEd
  • AmyLynnRever Apr 18 @ 8:44 PM EDT
A4: MSTEP coincides with our spring concerts so Ss are pretty good at pulling it together for final rehearsals. After those, we're on to #geniushour and some scale competitions for 6th grade classes along with their own projects. #miched
  • tmaynard5 Apr 18 @ 8:45 PM EDT
A4: We jump back in, review a bit from the part of the chapter from before testing, and hop back on the saddle! #miched
  • AnnSmart17 Apr 18 @ 8:45 PM EDT
A4: We use to have a ice cream party for the HS kids at the end of testing and then let me go home early. When they came back they seemed a bit more refreshed. #miched
  • RachelleinMI Apr 18 @ 8:47 PM EDT
Q5: Spring is field trip season in Michigan. What field trips will you take? Are they "just for fun" or connected to the curriculum? #MichED
  • csteenst Apr 18 @ 8:47 PM EDT
A4: I have been sharing ideas for recording. Create and record around any topic with groups since devices are less available & kids need to interact. This doc is a quick reference: https://t.co/lFl8OCbOPP #miched
  • RachelleinMI Apr 18 @ 8:48 PM EDT
A5: Heard a great presentation this morning from @DIADetroit Schools in tri-county area have amazing options. Including parent/student trips on Saturday. And they reimburse for busing! Great alternative to "parent night" #MichED
  • tmaynard5 Apr 18 @ 8:48 PM EDT
A5: We usually take our 8th graders to Michigan Adventure - just for fun! ... Seems most year-end trips @Creekside_MS are for "fun". During the year may be more 'curr" related. #miched

A5: No field trips for us, unless you count State Band Festival. We saw the @DetroitSymphony in the fall so we didn't pile more craziness on to the end of the already crazy EOY. #miched
  • RebSYoung Apr 18 @ 8:49 PM EDT
A5: Our T’s have Lansing, Mackinac Island, hikes at the nearby Nature Preserve planned. All connect with Curriculum. My own kiddos have a @greatlakesloons game! #FUN!!! #MichEd
  • AnnSmart17 Apr 18 @ 8:51 PM EDT
MI Adventure is basically Cedar Point on retirement. And let me clarify, I never taught Physics nor did I take Physics, it was just a trip I was always jealous of. LOL! #miched
