The #michED chat is a grassroots effort dedicated to giving teachers, students, and parents across Michigan a bigger voice in the conversation about education in our state. We welcome all voices through a variety of projects, media, and social networking. We’re trying to address educational issues through apolitical conversation, spreading ideas and stories of success from Michigan classrooms across the state, and helping teachers and students regain the courage to connect and demonstrate that schools in Michigan are creating amazing opportunities for learning. We want the face and voice of education in Michigan to be a mural of shared experiences and positive examples of connected learning.
Welcome to #Miched chat! Tonight we're asking "Is it Spring"? Introduce yourself. Tells us who you are, where you're from and what you do. Bonus if you include #sixwordmemoir for Poetry Month
Pro or hobby? I like to think of myself as a landscaper. Big plans for a pondless waterfall this summer. :) Current conditions are putting a SERIOUS damper on that lately though...#miched
A2: For students, the class expectations have been set. Tis the season for a lot of student inquiry, arguments/discussions, and giving the Ss even more of a voice. #miched Also I have no windows.
A2: For me, I get outside after school as much as I can. While I have a ton of to-dos as the year wraps up, I make sure to pick the 3-4 that must get done each day. #miched
A2: For Ss - keep to schedule, keep expectations high, keep moving forward. For self - try and make a new activity, new lesson, something to challenge me. #miched
A2: Today, 8th grade rehearsed in a circle to change up the routine today. After spring concerts, we'll do #geniushour projects in 7th and 8th. Hoping to get outside for some sun and fresh air for myself someday... #miched
A2: For the teachers I support, I listen carefully, emphasize, meet any needs, and engage them. Oh and ALWAYS have Keurig pods and chocolate stocked in my Literacy Lounge! #MichEd
Q2: #miched I teach all 11 all day, so we are doing a poem a day. I’m in heaven. They are suggesting such great poems and songs (except for the kid who tried to Rickroll me, is that even a thing anymore?? 😂) Ae have been laughing all week with that one.
We are dragging. Be proactive with us! "Have you tried this cool new [cool new idea]" I'm really tired as the year wraps up, but if I get something new and shiny, I'll still try to give it a go. #miched
A2: Also a great time to bust out CC standard RL.8.7...comparing written work we’ve read to its filmed or live version. Comfy seating, snacks, and a movie! 🍿 🎥 #MichED
A3: Haven't had to proctor yet, but kids have been twitchier between testing days. Cabin fever plus being stuck at a computer for hours equals: #miched
A3: Our HS staff that organized the test--Principals, counseling staff (whole other thread...), and more, really knocked organization out of the part.
Now if we didn't need to do it.... #miched
A3: have to give a shout out to @JanelleBross . Sick kids on test day, but because she is uber prepared, and her team is a well-oiled machine, the day went off without a hitch! #leadership#mylsps#MichED
A3: Running smoothly, just way too much of it, between MSTEP, NWEA, and additional Extensive assessments to complete the #IRIP data gathering requirements #MichEd
A4: At HS, it is all day--I simply don't see the testers. I treat it like a weekend. Welcome back. Today is a school day. Let's learn something. I try to make most days enjoyable to learn and if not enjoyable, at least engaging. #miched
A4: MSTEP coincides with our spring concerts so Ss are pretty good at pulling it together for final rehearsals. After those, we're on to #geniushour and some scale competitions for 6th grade classes along with their own projects. #miched
A4: We use to have a ice cream party for the HS kids at the end of testing and then let me go home early. When they came back they seemed a bit more refreshed. #miched
A4: I have been sharing ideas for recording. Create and record around any topic with groups since devices are less available & kids need to interact. This doc is a quick reference: https://t.co/lFl8OCbOPP#miched
A5: Heard a great presentation this morning from @DIADetroit Schools in tri-county area have amazing options. Including parent/student trips on Saturday. And they reimburse for busing! Great alternative to "parent night" #MichED
A5: We usually take our 8th graders to Michigan Adventure - just for fun! ... Seems most year-end trips @Creekside_MS are for "fun". During the year may be more 'curr" related. #miched

A5: No field trips for us, unless you count State Band Festival. We saw the @DetroitSymphony in the fall so we didn't pile more craziness on to the end of the already crazy EOY. #miched
A5: Our T’s have Lansing, Mackinac Island, hikes at the nearby Nature Preserve planned. All connect with Curriculum. My own kiddos have a @greatlakesloons game! #FUN!!! #MichEd
MI Adventure is basically Cedar Point on retirement. And let me clarify, I never taught Physics nor did I take Physics, it was just a trip I was always jealous of. LOL! #miched
A5: I’m thinking about taking my Ss to the state park across the street to do a clean up of litter/trash. We are researching ways to impact our environment in our community in a positive way. #miched
A5: My 5th grade daughter did an economics trip to the mall. Had to ask retail workers questions and all! #miched Kids loved it from what I heard! @maestraschool
Hey #MichED folks... while we got you in the line here, we wanted to tell you about the Capital Area Educators Summit on August 1.
We are looking for educators like you to come learn with us.

A6: Shout out to my #MichED#PLN, the awesome staff from @mylsps and my dog Noelle (otherwise known as "Smooch") for making me smile during this busy and challenging time. #BetterTogether#Mylsps
