Good evening I'm super excited to be here tonight. I love Edcamps! Also ready to hear book suggestions.
I know there are 2 edcamps around here, soon in FL. I need to stop long enough to look them up and compare calendar dates
Aloha friends, how are we doing this fine evening?
Hi So happy to join in tonight, too. Greetings from stormy WI. Hope all is well or reasonably well for the moment. ;)
Hey, ! Natalee from Maine. We're in the last 3 days of school. The end is near!
Hey lady! Hope you're staying safe in that weather!
There's on the 25th of June. on July 11th.
y'all had a late year, didn't you? We got out last Friday
Wahoo! We've got 2 and 1/2 days left!
New to this chat! Hope everyone's evening is going well!
25th--Saturday after Father's Day? Shoot. I won't be able to go...
I think you win the award for last teacher teaching @ this point in the yr unless any other friends are still on?
July 11th might be doable, though
Welcome, Brittany! So happy to have new voices.
Our kids get out on Thursday. All the Ts are ready to hit the brakes and I'm planning to pop the clutch and hit the gas!
and haul it outta there? lol
Tonight is Edcamp night on As at all f2f edcamps, the conversation is up to those here. What do you want to discuss?
Thanks! Excited to learn some new things! :)
I'd stall out. Our kids are done Thursday, teachers done Friday. I'm planning to take some time to relax.
Joining for the first time from rural East Tx. Excited to be a prt of some rural discussions.
a couple of things---how to write a good grant...how to be a better resource for teachers
Let us count the ways...Love it!
welcome, Amanda! Glad you joined us. Good group in here :)
. Sadly the life of a techie is to be present when others aren't. Only time to get my work done. Rewiring the HS!
Nathan, I think you have a problem. :-)
that sounds like a daunting task!
. My team & I love a good challenge!
what are the signs that one has a problem?
by yourself?! I so hope u have a team...but then again, I'm realizing u might not need it.
So who here would be willing to share about Grant writing &/or Being a better resource? https://t.co/xbDXEtxSEH
a couple of things---how to write a good grant...how to be a better resource for teachers
Do not encourage him. :-)
That's a bit too much of a challenge. How many rooms will you have to rewire?
Thanks for being my personal cheerleader. Sometimes I need one.
Speaking of book ideas, here are some ideas from my other chat, : https://t.co/87qWFNxaFb - Feel free to add to that list
Light at the end of the tunnel!
Thanks. Yes, how do resource teachers become a good resource, and not just a babysitter?
I write quite a few funding proposals. It's a challenge. It's a unique skill, and it's not for the faint of heart.
. Only two floors worth - about 100 drops or so in the HS. Then we move to the Elem Sch.
oh it is so close, yet so far! Graduation tomorrow!
oh--you're rewiring the district??
I'm a faint hearted, then. We have can write grants in her sleep. I've not found the nerve
. By the time I am done, yes!
Ugh. I'm out of practice...can't keep up with !
. We got your back friend!
I applaud you! I would love to have the knowhow
Federal, state, or foundation? The ones I have seen for educators are easy.
So for those of u just joining us, we're edcamp-style tonight.Open conversation & some talk of a book or 6 to read this summer.
are you using Tweetdeck? That helps
So, have we come up with some ideas for our ? I know we've talked a bit of grants, other ideas?
I've been here and I'm having trouble keeping up tonight.
. You can come up to NH for a work-cation! ;)
I'm also a faint hearted traveler LOL! I don't do bridges or heights
I'd love to talk about ideas for a student run HelpDesk. Goals, limits, possibilities...
. So me taking you rock climbing is out of the question? :D
. I am. It's more the multi-tasking. I used to be able to manage the feed and back channeling. Not so much tonight
our high school guy has a 'tech club', that he incorporates a student run helpdesk.
I would love to have a student run Help Desk. So many are afraid of job security.
I try to avoid government ones. Too many regulations.
. Oh, please share your experiences: good and bad!
Yes. We did a modified simple version this year. It did take a ton of pressure off the circ desk as ALL KNOWING.
shoot--I trip over pebbles! LOL
professional books or books to recommend to students? I'm guessing the first, but ya know, I am ELAR.
Favorite conferences and why?
has anyone had a student run helpdesk or something like it in elementary school?
. Heck I love good YA books! Toss a few of those in too!
I have none. I'm 4th & 5th grade campus. The HS guy is a different campus. He talks good about it, I think.
Either way, we were thinking prof, but open to anything our community is reading.
I heard that had a great turn out and discussion
I got to go to Boothbay Literacy Retreat last year. It was amazing. Hope to go again some day.
this year I went to & really enjoyed it. It was all about MS and from all diff perspectives. Lots of networking.
Not in my district. I would like to, but like said--job security is threatened.
. I'd love to hear some models! I think that to start them off young is great!
b) also, students aren't allowed to miss class until the end of the year
. Imagine training student HelpDesk staff to work in class vs. an independent model.
I'm not functioning well tonight. I just read what I thought said A Guide to Complacency-Based Education Model
What I've done in the past is to brag on a student I trust to their teacher. That boosts the S's confidence, and helps me, also
My district has purchased a ton of new technology so we're starting them in kindergarten!
I'm hoping to go to the TX ELAR conference next yr. I'm hoping if I present I can go for cheaper
. I guess that's where it's good to be da boss, got plenty more to keep my staff busy.
. Omigosh that is too funny! humor
this is kinda the same, but kinda different. I had Ss do self checkout in the libr.
I'm getting back in touch with my inner history major geek.
. How did they handle the responsibility? Did they rise to the occasion?
I think I'm reading it first because of the crud she's been through over it.
I will have to check it out.
Did you see the video on FB of the resource officer from the Maine school? Such a fabulous endorsement!
They did. We started LIM & so I came from it as Ss are Ldrs in the Library.
Love the bottom one. A week survival trip in an isolated area must be planned.
No, do you have an external video link?
Please do! Kate is a fabulous writer!
. That is so cool, I love when we give our Ss opportunities to fly!
Several in each class got the system down well, so I made them "in charge" & called me over if there was a prob.
I'll have to try to find it.
The book is actually about pop culture. My inner sociologist is geeking out.
What changes are you expecting in the Fall?
How many would be interested in an online ? Seriously, we could make it happen.
Actually, I think Kate took the video at her school visit.
I've asked to get into the classrooms to help incorporate the tech
. Where to start... New network, new chromebooks, new opps for students, invent ways for me to teach in district.
That has been catching my eye.
I read a blog from a homeschool mom, she teaches students suvival skills.
I've read several YA this summer - but none have been amazing. It's been a bit disappointing.
are y'all a 1:1 district?
Isn't that such an issue - time and trust were my biggest hurdles.
There is software we can use to manage Google Hangouts for the breakout sessions.
. I'd love to give it a go! I wonder if 's tool would work for a ?
that sound interesting. I'd be interested in joining a RuralEdCamp
If y'all do a rural I could help out with GAFE / Google Classroom or tech integration with ELAR and Ss
. My district is 1:1 for grades 3-12 now. Adding 1-2 next fall.
I just read MADE YOU UP. That was a pretty cool YA.
I have a feeling that'll be mine as well
can you say, "Job security" boys n girls? ;)
Wow, is certainly humming tonight! This is fun!
. Yup! or Job Training since I'm saving the $ I'd spend on insurance for parts instead. Teach a trade.
I say we meet all in Nebraska or South Dakota in the middle of nowhere.
I've read Savvy, The War that Saved My Life, and have two going right now. Also rdg some for PD.
. Actually, given how much is spent over 3 years, I think we'd be well ahead. Bill per incident v. chance
I LOVED War that Save My Life!!!!
I'm going to have to sign off. Tball practice is over. Do y'all meet weekly?
What advise would you give to someone who hasn't written grants before?
During the summer we meet every other week. But you never know may be around next week.
I loved the premise - but thought the plot and characters were under developed.
most of the time--every Tuesday 8:30EST
Now I need to re-read it!
. Yeah, so I got a little carried away and tried to mod on an off week! LOL! Knew it would happen.
Typing too fast! Advice not advise :)
So when do we want to choose our summer book challenge title?
In 2 weeks, we will all be sharing about the books we are reading. It will be much more in depth than "This is a great read".
We may need to create an entire night about this. Lots of information available.
That would be a good idea--to have a book study--where we all read the same book?
. That's a great idea! There are a lot of things to consider about grants in general.
Sounds like we have our first chat topic for August. Yay!
testing. Did everyone stop typing?
Getting back to the Stu-run HelpDesk, what would you NOT allow them to do?
N E thing that requires admin passwords
. I think we were all catching our breath and stretching out our beleaguered digits!
I got distracted. Not multi-tasking well tonight!
lol Ok. I was hoping my screen hadn't frozen
you're in good company! lol
. I've had that happen in Tweetdeck before! Thought it was quiet only to find folks were talking w/o me! hiccup
. can you share the google doc again? That way everyone can nominate their favorite one.
a lot of things I teach Ss is what Ts could also know, if they're interested
My Tweetdeck is glitching right now. Kind of laggy.
In 2 weeks will have a survey of the Books nominated. Then we can get started reading. Sound good?
I think it's just tired. I know I am. I went to be at 7:30 last night!
I'd like to see it also, pls
Sounds good! https://t.co/Oiesxv3UKC
In 2 weeks will have a survey of the Books nominated. Then we can get started reading. Sound good?
I want to read all of 'em :P
This has been a great I love that we've covered so much territory tonight. :-)
Thanks for a great first chat, look forward to chatting again soon!
So we're meeting in 2 weeks? Not next week?
Tonight was fun, ! I've missed you guys!
Attend a few courses, get a mentor.
This was a blast! Love my family!
Our archives will be ready either later tonight or tomorrow. I'm still prepping for a conference that starts tomorrow.
