The #TXLchat provides a forum for Texas librarians (but not limited to Texas librarians) to create collaborative connections, share educational resources, and foster life-long learning.
Hi #TXLchat
I'm Len, district digital media specialist in @hillsboro_sd in gorgeous Oregon! Excited to learn about #futurereadylibs curriculum connections this evening!
A1: While it's a challenge with curriculum for all of the grades and content served at the campus, it is so important for us to model the alignment of curriculum-instruction-assessment. Modeling this for teachers that we work with is great value added to our campuses. #txlchat
Thanks for moderating #jdlaboon. Sorry I am missing #txlchat tonight. Headed to the airport now to pick up Dad. Looking forward to the archive. Thanking @sharongullett in advance for that resource! Chat on!
A1: As custodians of the resources we benefit from maintaining a mental inventory of teaching resources that are a perfect match each teacher’s needs because they will always stop you in the hallway to ask you about resources. #txlchat
A1 ALL THE WAYS. #FutureReadyLibs are proactive when looking at curriculum docs, often looking ahead to find out how to support on the campus. We can work with content coordinators to provide resource lists & performance task ideas at the district level. #txlchat
#txlchat#futurereadylibrarians A1 know the curriculum. Be part of the SBDM that maps out the campus plan and initiatives. Help students prepare for Post secondary life
A1 #futurereadylibs look at the big picture. We bring in skills & knowledge from all areas of the curriculum, crossing subject areas & incorporating search strategies, technology, & more #txlchat
A1 FR Librarians can play a huge impact on curriculum by collaborating with teachers and providing support for resources that can impact student success #txlchat#BISDpride
A1: #futurereadylibs support all #curriculum at every turn that is made! From making connections with partnerships to building relationships with teachers #txlchat

A1: One way that we help with the curriculum is to help the teachers provide experiences for the students that are hard to pull off easily for a teacher by himself/herself. It is a great way to partner with teachers of any subject. #txlchat
A1: Try to find Ts that are open to co-teaching too. I have worked with my 7th grade Science teachers on several units this year. It's so good to have a different perspective! #txlchat

A1 We demonstrate an awareness of the curriculum (scope & sequence-y stuff), we know what resources will complement the material, and we have relationships with our faculty members that open doors. #txlchat
A1 It’s also important to have a “seat at the table” at you’re admin level as curriculum is being developed so you can play a key role and not be an after thought. #txlchat
It's so important that we understand what "curriculum" really is. It's not the textbook, it's not lesson plans. If we want to be involved, we must be informed. #txlchat#FutureReadyLibs
#txlchat#futurereadylibrarians Connect students with real world opportunities to apply knowledge like internships. Build partnerships with CTE counselors and teachers.
A1: (2nd thought) Something I have started to do is really organize and put a curriculum together...more like a guide as what to do when! Support all teachers and all subjects! #FutureReadyLibs#txlchat
A1 It’s also important to have a “seat at the table” at you’re admin level as curriculum is being developed so you can play a key role and not be an after thought. #txlchat
A2: Helping teachers begin with the end in mind is so important. If you know the TEKS that is being addressed, helping the teachers take risks with creative, authentic learning methods is the best way to support #futureready campuses. #txlchat
New ELA curriculum was developed this year at our district. I wish I would have known sooner so I could have volunteered to sit in on the committee and help gather resources! No librarian was included. Maybe next time... #txlchat
A2: I send out monthly support about technology and I always offer a helping hand with projects. I encourage the use of online resources when only print ones are requested #txlchat
A2 Me & @strootech are specialists at taking projects & research & infusing those learning targets with future ready tools & skills for our Ts! #txlchat

A2: I am taking what my teachers are doing and adding it to my curriculum break down to make it easier to follow next year and putting everything in order now! #aldinelibraries#txlchat
A2 It's our responsibility to ensure Ss are exposed to only the best resources. If a curricular resource is outdated or unavailable, we provide alternatives to our Ts. Get to know who the curriculum writers are and offer your expertise. #txlchat#FutureReadyLibs
I have tried to pick a lesson or topic that I can hone in on and offer opportunities to use the library and our resources to support their teaching. So many topics... so little time! #txlchat

A2: I taught all the digital citizenship lessons and collaborated with counselor to teach cyber bullying lessons this year. For preschool I use many rhyming books and work on phonemic awareness activities with students. #txlchat
Same!!! Used to happen all the time, but, we've evolved past that {for the most part} by involving librarians in planning our aligned district-wide curriculum. #txlchat

I LOVE finding ways to connect my Ts and Ss with authors, experts, and other classes to share and expand their learning! Last week I connected our 8th grade science classes with our local weatherman - @HerzogWeather ! It was fascinating! #txlchat
A2 I offer to teach classes, especially when I know the resources better than the teacher. I offer resources that they might not be aware of, but don’t pressure them, acknowledging that needs vary. And I try to offer new perspectives. #txlchat
A2 Every aspect Future Ready Framework should be taken into account when planning lessons for students. We provided the Future Ready wheel for librariansto consult while lesson planning. We also structure our PD day for curriculum planning each year. #txlchat#BISDpride
I started making lists of new picture books I get and what ELA teks they Can support so I have something to recommend when I can’t get the book in the plan #txlchat
A3: I think things like Collections on Destiny and other curating pieces have been great. Teachers are seeing that resourcescan come from a variety of places and they can take more risks academically without getting in trouble for not following exactly #txlchat
I started a spreadsheet a few years ago with picture books & their curriculum correlations. I also held a party for my teachers & highlighted picture books in different areas. Great attendance, low follow-up. #txlchat

A3: We should also be reading important texts that teachers are - on formative assessment, mindset, UDL, lesson design, writing, etc. to be true curr. partners #txlchat

A1 someone pointed out, having a seat at the table; sometimes you have to create your own table, & invite your guests to pull up a chair to listen, share, & talk. This next year-a big goal is to make sure there is a library voice (even if we have to invite ourselves) #txlchat
A3: We should also be reading important texts that teachers are - on formative assessment, mindset, UDL, lesson design, writing, etc. to be true curr. partners #txlchat
A3 we have been diligent in working with the district to ensure that all campuseshave the resources they need. TexQuest, @CapstonePub and Pebble Go, @TumbleBooks for example. We are lucking to have had budget increases each year. #txlchat
A4 Understanding the curriculum and knowing how it is used in your district. Know the different pieces so you are using the same terminology your Ts use. Demonstrate your expertise daily & share it with Admin. Showing an interest goes a long ways! #txlchat#FutureReadyLibs
A4: I am working on lessons to spot "fake" news with another librarian. I need work in this area, so I am grateful that she is willing to partner with me. #txlchat
A4: I need to do a better job of reaching out to teachers to offer ways to support their curriculum. Finding more buy-in from teachers who would be open to co-teaching some lessons. #txlchat
#txlchat At one of our intermediate schools, admin bought copies of all @TBABooks for all teachers. Teachers asked for a new set the next year & started incorporating these new books into their lessons!!
If #TexQuest resources r not your strong suite, look to ur ESC this summer 4 intro to our newest additions & new ideas w other & their website #txlchat
A2. Start with the goal in mind: TEKs, final outcome, etc. Also, our district is big on Google apps. We use those applications to demonstrate how those 21st Century Learning Skills can be applied in the classroom. #txlchat
A4 I need to move beyond the core group of teachers with whom I’m comfortable working. We have resources for so many curricular areas, and the relationships are good, but we need to move towards partnership, not just friendship. #txlchat
A4: I know I do things that are #futureready, but I feel like it still isn’t there 100%...and don’t know what my next step would be! I want to not just be a #FutureReadyLibs but my campus also! #txlchat
A1 another thing is invite curriculum to talk about what, why & who we are-I think sometimes we move into the library & we have lost our identity as a teacher and instructional leader ... a partner in the process of getting kids where they need to be #txlchat
A4 Our district library goal for next year is to improve our skills so that we can help ADULT learners (admin, teachers, paras, parents) access digital technology better. Hopefully that will infect their teaching. #txlchat
A3: @GoogleForEdu apps are helpful in curriculum support, especially with #collaboration. Also, Destiny Collections! But most important, we have to be an advocate for what we can do! #FutureReadyLibs#txlchat
#GISDLibraries love working with our friends in Curriculum! They value our opinion and are passionate about teacher-librarian partnerships! Shout out to @mnicholstx@crazyaddyela! #txlchat
#txlchat#futurereadylibrarians A4 never underestimate or under appreciate the power of library assistants or student aides. They can assist with labor intensive tasks so you can get out of the library and go to Dept meetings and visit grade levels or just pop into classrooms
A4 We need to help teachers and curriculum folks understand that Future Ready is for the students not the Librarians. Together we can empower children to be the designers of their own learning. Building Future Ready students who are ready for any career path. #txlchat

Wow! Awesome support by admin. I have been blessed with teachers who support my Bluebonnet Book Club and they read aloud some of the @TBABooks to help kids earn an invite to our awesome celebration event. It’s HUGE! #txlchat

So right to point that out, Marsha. Sometimes I keep good stuff like that to myself. I laminated the Follett posters with #TayshasList and #LoneStarList, taped them to the top of the circulation desk, and have been making comments on them as I read/listen. #txlchat
Yes! Many times teachers don't know what options they have until you present them. And my problem is I don't often know what to offer until AFTER the fact. So then I just set a reminder in my calendar for next year! #txlchat

A2 I am new at the HS, so they are learning about me & me about them. I have found that word is spreading, I find someone to work with, using curriculum... always leading with curriculum & my ideas... research, connections, etc support. They love it & come back for more. #txlchat
A4: I know I do things that are #futureready, but I feel like it still isn’t there 100%...and don’t know what my next step would be! I want to not just be a #FutureReadyLibs but my campus also! #txlchat
A5 I am going to continue to infuse the “library” influence into all dealings we have with curriculum leaders. We are making great strides and moving in the right direction. #txlchat
A5: Create a spreadsheet with titles and curriculum correlations and host parties for the teachers to learn more. @readjunkee genius idea!!!!! #txlchat
A5 Meeting with district curriculum people is a big goal of mine. If we can get them to value & use us & the resources we share, then that will move down to the teachers. Really thinking about the trickle-down approach. #txlchat
Small steps and pulling the databases in that are most applicable for the learning. This is why I ❤️ @MackinVIA bc it’s so easy to curate the just right resources! #txlchat

A4. #txlchat#LevelUp I feel like, and I’m still new at this, that I need to target specific T’s that I feel are willing to try new things, a mentoring of sorts.
A5: Create a spreadsheet with titles and curriculum correlations and host parties for the teachers to learn more. @readjunkee genius idea!!!!! #txlchat
A5 We’re adding devices in all core classrooms next year, so my goal is to reach out and mentor with G-Suite tools and suggestions for incorporating technology in more lessons. I’d love to start a trend with #booksnaps#mathsnaps#sciencesnaps and more! #txlchat
A5. #txlchat I agree with @Cruz23Mac. I need to trust my assistant or library assistants more. (I have control issues. 😭 Forgive me.) This will free more time to ensure collaboration with my prospective “mentees”.
A1 here is another idea I used to try-called my ‘dessert tray’ I would go to grade level meetings or PLCs. After looking at curriculum. Sometimes teachers just want to pass, just a taste, or they want to try the whole piece of the lesson or activity-total buy in. #txlchat
I love this too. Maybe getting a table or a seat is too much, but on the menu even for 5 min, every single meeting. People who see you decide you do have something to contribute, a voice and invite you to the table!!! Talk about powerful!#txlchat
I took a tip from @utalaniz and bought a pretty school calendar that I use to plan, and make notes about lessons that I can reference. I try to make notes AFTER the lesson so I can make improvements. Or add topics to the calendar that I notice i could support next year. #txlchat
You are amazing! Our new @TXLA Pres can schedule tweets, attend her son's orientation and monitor a chat all at the same time - She is the #REALDEAL#txlchat

That’s awesome! I invited a science teacher to the North Texas Teen Book Festival! Even Science teachers love to read good books... and I am hoping it leads to a cool opportunity for some collaboration. #trust & #relationships are key! #txlchat
#txlchat. Used a credit with a vendor to purchase some materials for a curriculum coordinator. Since then we’ve met 6 times and planned 2 joint PD’s for August. Score!
