#BadgeChat was founded in December, 2014 by a group of educators who are passionate about credentialing learning and achieving. While there are thousands of us around the globe issuing badges to learners, there was not yet a regular twitter chat for those of us in the K-12 space to gather for learning and sharing about badging. After reaching out to leaders in the field (like the good folks at Mozilla and The Badge Alliance) for their thoughts, #BadgeChat was born.
Here's a preview of our questions. All are welcome to join the conversation! Please remember to include #BadgeChat in your responses so that everyone sees what you post:)
My name's Noah and I'm in Denver. I'm passionate about Badges and hope today helps make some of the terminology more accessible. I'm also excited about #BadgeSummit on June 23rd in Chicago https://t.co/TPSB4ep8yX#badgechat
A1: When I got my CPR/First Aid card, it was a credential and I could show it to parents thinking of hiring me as a babysitter or the head lifeguard to show her I was qualified to work at the pool. They were "consumers" of my credential #badgechat
A1: I also think of it in terms of "if a tree falls in the woods but nobody is around to hear it..." Often, our achievements exist in a silo with no external audience. "Consumers" get to hear the proverbial tree fall (and care about what sound it makes) #badgechat

Great question!!! In my case, it was from Red Cross. But had it been the "Noah's Friend Brian CPR Card" that could've changed their opinion as consumers valuing the credential... #badgechat
A1: obviously me me think about eating, but is a bit of a tough one - Doesn’t seem to account for comfort with/tolerance for risk. My 5-second rule could be very different from yours. #badgechat

A2: To piggyback on Mark's food analogy, "Description" lets me know what to expect when ordering on the menu..."Criteria" is what I'll use to decide whether or not the chef gave me my money's worth #badgechat
A3: In honor of the NC peeps, Michael Jordan didn't make the shoes but because he "endorsed" and lent his social capital, it made the shoes more desirable #badgechat
Fair question. As it relates to Endorsement in Badging, what level of hands-on involvement do you think we should look for in order for the Endorsement to be meaningful? #badgechat
I def don’t have a number in mind - and I would def take Jordan as the “butcher’s word” on shoes - I also am aware of the “who watches the watcher” and how it is easy to bake the status quo into new initiatives #badgechat
Thanks to those who joined this week! I know we were few, but I think we produced some analogies that can serve to make this stuff more conceptually accessible to people. Great work y'all! #badgechat
In addition to following those who joined today, grow your PLN by following other Badge Chatters who you can find on this list https://t.co/5G1s93wr8g#badgechat
Sure! Jordan is easy as we all know he’s king and his word on shoes carries weight - but what if expertise/endorsement weight is self proclaimed or assigned to the person/group that got there first? #badgechat
Totally! Or what if the endorsement is a tran$actional kind of thing and not a data point we should be valuing when determining value proposition of the credential? #badgechat
Thanks again to all who joined! Enthusiastic open invitation to anyone interested to respond anytime with more analogies to help with any of these terms! #badgechat
Right! And I just listened to @SYSKPodcast on the weekend about the mpaa - who oversees these folks that oversee movie ratings? Who watches the watcher? #badgechat
