Fulfillment personally and professionally. Feeling like what we do makes a difference in the students, teachers, and parents we come in contact with. #tlap
A1: To leave a positive legacy & to positively impact as many people as I can through motivation/laughter since every day is a gift that we aren’t promised! #TLAP
A1: Embracing life with open palms to receive whatever is given and to give from the resources I have...what this looks like for me -- only God knows! #TLAP#RunLAP

A1: My life is pumped up when I am competing to be a better version of myself. When I improve, I really love empowering others to reach their potential. #runlap#tlap

#Thrill#tlap#RunLAP
A1: sorry, hungry baby called. In life, I’m searching to be the most successful I can be as an educator and administrator, to be the best dad and best husband I can be. #tlap
A2 - I ran for 24 hours straight last New Years Eve (Chapter 44) and did 103 miles. Most amazing race of my life, and I learned more mentally than I did physically I think! #tlap#RunLAP
‘Run Like a Pirate’ is available on @amazon pick up a copy and let me know what you think! Warning - there’s a high probability you’ll become super motivated! https://t.co/7xTSjnkQwO#tlap#RunLAP
A little late jumping in. Scott Peavey, Assistant Principal in the Kansas City area. A1- To be the best father, husband and educator I can possibly be! #tlap
A month ago when I made the decision to pack up my life in Arizona and move to Texas!! The outcome thus far has been great, have a job I am extremely excited about and looking forward to a great year!! #TLAP
A2: Educationally - when I made the move from elem to middle school - now I love it & can't imagine anything else. Personally - #DBC50Summer: reading ALL the @dbc_inc books & making plans to implement each one. #tlap
A2 I JUST (five minutes) ago sent my very first article. "Tell us about your classroom and your vision for education." It's taken more than 3 weeks to finish but I'm excited to share it! #tlap#unlimitedteacher
Jumping in a bit late! Alisa from NJ — Literacy Coach...
A1: I am looking for and always striving for inner peace and giving out positivity wherever I can! It has taken me a long time, but I am finally finding true happiness in life 💛 #TLAP
A2: The last time I did something really hard was leaving a position and district I loved for a new opportunity that will challenge me and help me grow....that was just 2 months ago! #tlap#RunLAP
I joined a campus labeled ”Improvement Required” which caused all of us to come together to determine what we could do to change the direction of the school #TLAP
I need to get better about stepping out of my comfort zones, so this is tricky 🙈 (I wish it wasn’t) this isn’t really an answer, but it is motivation!! #tlap#runlap
A2: Finishing my doctorate was one of the hardest things I have done in awhile. At one point I was dual enrolled and took 15 hours of grad classes while coaching. It was a journey that has opened so many doors and taught me I can do whatever I put my heart to #RunLAP#tlap
A2: I moved my family back to my hometown in Indiana from Texas this summer. Miss my people in TX like crazy but know this move was for the best! #tlap
A2: While going through the transition from T to leader, I had professional obligations to balance and had to juggle in priorities from my old school. I also have a family that needed my attention. It helped me see the passion I have for life and to ensure everyone is happy #tlap
A2: The last time that I did something that was truly hard would probably be when our son needed an MRI on his back, he was 8 months. He came back tumor free, but we had no control or say on the process...just had to have faith. #tlap
A2: I didn't think the questions could get harder... but they did. How can I even compare to you running for 24 hours. Hell, I'm just happy when I wake up every morning. Every day is hard for some of our kids. My job is to try to make it easier #tlap
A1: #tlap#runlap on the open ended question scale, that’s a big one!! Healthy, happy children, love, kindness, finish my dissertation, & to blow industrial era education out of the water! See ya 1950’s classrooms! 😁
A2 Putting myself out there, share my honest story, reach out to collaborate, not wait to be asked. It is difficult to get no's or have people turn away, but every voice matters. I have been able to meet some of the most incredible people and friends. #tlap#runLAP
A2: Dude—the Inca Trail a few days ago. I thought about giving up so many times, but trekking into your first glimpse of Machu Picchu 🙌🏼 I had to write a blog post about it. So powerful. #tlap#RunLAP
A2: I ran the #colfaxurban10miler and it was AMAZING! I trained for 12 weeks while teaching and completed the race with 9 minute miles; 3 minutes faster a mile than I did in training. All while working, being a mom, wife, teacher, and then some... #TLAP
A2: Today. Figuring out the new website intricacies and coding that I'm migrating our school website to was/is hard. Frustrating work, but when it all comes together, it's the ultimate in satisfaction and happiness. #tlap#RunLAP
A2- Today at work; Wanting to redirect & inspire; empower others to find their way through transition & change- it was a challenge but made some headway #RunLAP#tlap
A2: Friday, elevated benchpress, four sets of six, pushed by my trainer...SO HARD...had to go down in weight twice. Just benched the bar in the end. At least I finished the sets! #TLAP
A2: Last week, when I knew someone was trying to push my buttons. I didn't let them know that they got to me. I did have a migraine later in the evening, but the person didn't break me during our conversation. #tlap
Becky from Marysville (reporting from Caseville, MI)
A1-I want to leave a positive impact. I want to create and cultivate an environment that fosters happiness, fulfillment, engagement and joy, for not just myself but for those around me #RunLAP#tlap
A2: “Hard” is a fixed mindset...nothing is hard...it’s challenging. As a competitor I love to compete and with that mindset there I can accomplish any difficult task with help.
When I fail,
I learn
When I fall,
I pick myself back
When I lose,
I find a way to win
#runlap#tlap
A2: Physically - I started working out again for the 1st time after having 2 kiddos (!) and the Div I athlete in me woke up.. pushing myself more every day, and seeing hard work pay off. I feel great - more energy and focused.. it's great to have some me time.. #TLAP#runlap
A2: I’m currently designing proficiency scales for standards based grading to use this year. To me it’s hard because I don’t have a lot of social studies examples to go off of and it seems like there are many ways to do it. I’ll know the outcome when the year gets going. #tlap
A2) every time I break out of my comfort zone, I’m doing something hard. It’s difficult holding my tongue & not reacting when I’m full of personal beliefs & view points. I suppose by my own definition I do difficult things a lot! #tlap
A2: The most recent, last night finishing up a huge grad school assignment. The past year, I've climbed some personal mountains. I found vulnerability at the top. #tlap#RunLAP
You are like me Alicia - I moved from elem to high school. big adjustment and learning curve. But the first year went well. If i made one good working relationship at each school I called it successful. #tlap
A2: Started up the #EducatorsGrow podcast last year. Didn’t really know how to start, was nervous reaching out an asking for guests and putting it out there for all to see and hear was a big step. But it’s honestly so much fun! #tlap
A2
⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️
"You will face obstacles along the way." -@burgessdave
I love challenging myself to the point of failure. Obstacles will be there, it's how you meet and over come them that matters. 👟☠️#RunLAP#TLAP
A2: This past year was very challenging! I earned my UF Lastinger Center Instructional Coaching Certification. Took all year but definitely worth it!! #tlap
A2: The last thing I have done that forced me outside of my comfort zone was leaving my teaching position of almost 10 years for a new position! It was the best thing I have ever done as I am continuing to grow professionally in ways I never thought I would! 🙌🏻 #TLAP
A2: Moved to a new country, a new school, and began working on my masters all within 3 months just about a year ago. It’s made me stronger...that’s what I keep telling myself anyway. #tlap#Runlap
Q2. The last time I did something very hard was driving to the Wisconsin Dells through really bad rain 🌧 the outcome was dinner with @AggieSalterITS and @burgessdave#tlap
A2: My 2nd marathon. I took 27 minutes off my time from my 1st marathon. I learned that I can push myself more than I thought. I learned to set my goals high and then work hard to achieve them. This is true in other areas as well. #tlap
A2: Stepping out of my comfort zone & tried something I had never done before by participating in an #Edusations interview with @MrPStrunk I felt proud to do something I never thought I would do & the feedback I’ve been receiving is truly humbling #tlaphttps://t.co/LHbD6uPhTm
A2- Trusting myself to take the leap out of one of my most comfortable places on earth (my classroom) to an administrative role. I start officially on Wednesday, so the outcome is TBD! #tlap
#tlap My great Aunt Marie taught me guiding principles to live by: listen more, help others, treat others how you want to be treated, smile, love, live a life of integrity. My goal = be 1/2 the person she was!
A2: Recovering from running my 2nd marathon; more sore and mentally/emotionally drained than I was after my first one; took time to slowly recover and get motivated again to run #TLAP
A2: Actually, it was years ago and it was when I run my only marathon. It was really difficult to train for it, especially finding the time. The run itself was also very difficult. In the end, I did not get my intended time, but finishing it was a success! #tlap#RunLAP
A2. Roller skating. I fell twice, but for being the first time since I held the rails 20 years ago, and being able to do 4 laps with faster times each lap, I consider it a success! Don't let the falls define the experience! #tlap#RunLAP
A2: Last week, we packed up our 3 kids & drove 4 hours south to our new home purely to be closer to family. Pulling out of the driveway as we waved to our neighbours/friends was one of the hardest things I’ve ever done but I’m incredibly proud that we took the leap #tlap#runlap
A2: I went back to the classroom, to a different grade level and content. While I was scared it was the best decision I have ever made. I never want to leave! #tlap
A2 Moving from AP to principal in my building last year. It has been the best ride of my life but a hard one. We are working to transform student and teachers into master lifelong learners and we are WINNING!!! #TLAP#RunLAP
A2: My dad passed away last summer after a 3yr battle w/ Parkinsons &Dementia. His final journey was incredibly difficult BUT I gained so much clarity about my interactions w/others & my life was enriched. So important 2 laugh often & share joy in the smallest of moments #TLAP
A2 Becoming a principal in a building where I was AP was hard. Thanks to a lot of good support , perseverance we have made a lot of growth #tlap#RunLAP
#tlap A2: I'm in the process of writing 3 documents. I've worked throughout the summer, but have not finished. One is Hacking the Oklahoma Academic Standards, another one is ELA Frameworks, & the other is The Spark. It's tedious work, but sometimes I just need to walk and think.
A2: I have to say it was 16 years ago. I was close to 240lbs, I looked in the mirror and didn't recognize myself. I changed eating, exercise and started hitting running trails. Lost the weight in a little over a year back to 189 lbs. #tlap#runlap
Q2: 2 years ago left everything to move to a new state for hubby's job. Best decision ever! Since then, putting myself "out there" on a regular basis, which is terrifying but worth it #tlap
A2: I left my alma mater to open a new high school. My new school is great and I have only one regret...the unfinished business at my old school helping them serve those learners better. I wish I had another year or two there. #tlap#runlap
A2: Joining a twitter chat... this is my first night of chatting - it's insanely fast paced for someone with FOMO, but I am learning so much, and really feel a part of something. This is so cool! (Even with the tough questions! - Holy Moly!) #tlap
A2) Today! I ran on the treadmill after pushing myself yesterday. I haven’t run for a long time so getting back in a routine has been really tough but I was so excited and proud afterwards #RUNLAP#tlap
A2: (part II) I find that academic and emotional challenges become more manageable when I feel prepared; regardless of the outcome, I can be proud of my accomplishments because I know I put my best foot forward #tlap#runlap
A2: Have to add that our 5 year old daughter fought cancer for 2 yrs. She beat it after 6 surgeries and 19 cycles of chemo. Seeing her go thru that was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Now she’s a perfectly healthy almost kindergartener! #owlsforavery#tlap
A2: Howdy #tlap crew; I went downhill skiing in January, at age 56, and it was really hard. Not for the faint of heart but I ended up taking the ski lift up three times and skiing down successfully without any bruises or breaks! #tlap
A2) Compiling and writing the #firewithinbook was difficult. I had to be vulnerable and put myself out there, and then I had to support other people showing their vulnerability. It was hard and emotional and worth it. #tlap
A2: I am in the beginning stages of personal training (deadlift, lunges, kettleball, etc.). Right now my body feels wrecked. But i am still going thru it. #TLAP#FitPrincipal
I started a blog. Way out of my comfort zone. The response from my #PLN was incredibly supportive and it made me grow as a leader, educator and person. I need to keep on taking risks, something I value, and continue to grow. #RunLAP#tlap#LeadLAP#GrowthMindset
A2-Last year I was a first year principal!!! Pretty hard and out of my comfort zone!! However, I loved serving the students, staff and families at my school. I'm looking forward to challenging myself even more in year 2!!! #tlap
A2: Trying to navigate my first month as a principal! Getting everything set-up, getting ppl motivated, changes, etc. Putting myself around good ppl & keeping a fresh perspective is a must! #TLAP
A2: I don't know if this is something hard... but when I want to learn about something, I dig in until I truly understand it. I've been doing a lot of that this summer (hoping to have a better year come Sept). #tlap#runlap
One of my twins came home from the hospital on a ventilator. I had to bag him multiple times when he had trouble breathing. Nothing else in my life seems very hard. Perspective. #TLAP
A2: Two years ago I changed positions 4 times in 18 months. The last two positions were as a brand new principal in alt. Ed and elementary where I had limited experience to say the least. Still a work in progress but I made it through stronger and better. #tlap
A2 Watching my dad slowly lose his life...the last 3 months visiting him daily before school, not knowing when he would take his last breath. I was there on the Saturday when he did...the hardest day of my life!#tlap
A3: I said I was going to write a book and fundraiser the money to get it published. Everyone told me that was absolutely impossible and yet, I did it... twice. #tlap#RunLAP
A2 Have been pushing myself physically, which has been a chellenge after becoming a mom, but have been successful with sticking to the program so far. #tlap
A2: Like @iluveducating, when I moved from teaching middle school to seniors. Also, continuing to juggle a new role and read/write about all 50 #DBC50Summer books! #tlap
In reply to
@iluveducating, @dbc_inc, @iluveducating
A3: Definitely bungee jumping. I once bungee jumped over the Nile River. To this day, I even think that was crazy. "Rather be scared to death, than bored to death." #tlap
A2: Reflecting on the previous school year is always hard because there are so many things I want to improve on every year. Just trying to make every year better for the students than the year before. #tlap
A2: I stuck with an organization in my personal life through a change in leadership that was very frustrating/disappointing for me personally. I didn't feel right quitting when their was still a chance to improve. New leader arrived, has lots of potential. #tlap, #runlap
A3: Run a marathon. 2 and a half years ago, I had just completed my 20 mile training run when I found out I was pregnant. I was advised not to run the race to protect my son, but I WILL run 26.2 some day! #runlap#TLAP
A3 Trained for a half marathon with no base after being away from running for four years. I was very overweight and it was miserable but they finish was so worth it #TLAP
Thank you so much Eric- that truly means a lot. I was so nervous but once @MrPStrunk said let’s do this, I took a deep breath and shared who I am with the world, it was such an honor 😊 #tlap#RunLAP
A2 I am trying to create a website where I share kids' wrtg samples, engaging stories & inspiration. I'm looking for ways to give back to the profession that's been so beautiful to me. Very difficult! Outcome: I'm lrng more than ever to take risks & ask experts for help. #tlap
A2 - I took a risk on something earlier this summer that didn't turn out the way I hoped, but the lesson (and blessing) was in taking the risk. No regrets! On a side note, this is a GREAT book about pushing ourselves out of our comfort zones. #tlap#RunLAP@leslieodomjr
A3 Walking 40 km with my students from my school to the Terry Fox monument in Ottawa, Canada. in honor of Terry Fox Day. People told me it was too hard, that it couldn't be done. Did it four times, and restarting the tradition this September. Life-changing. #tlap#runlap
A3 Somethibg I have done that people thought I was crazy for... I would say Race The Lake. A 90 mile bike race. Completed the full twice with my uncle. #tlap
A3: Again... #DBC50Summer. I've either gotten "the alien look" or "the pity look" when people first hear about my personal challenge. HA! I love it! #tlap
A3: I set up a system of arranging our classrooms that is interdisciplinary. Many wanted and still want disciplinary spaces. I would have thought I was crazy 5 years ago. #tlap. #runlap
A3- As a history nerd/coach I started writing a book that detailed the history of my HS Alma masters football program. After about 10 years worth of periodic work I finally got it finished a couple of years ago and turned it into a nice fundraiser for the school. #tlap
So difficult to answer! Hard for me is going to be so different than what hard is to you, and to all of our other colleagues and friends. Perspective is everything. #tlap
A3: Run a marathon without training, jumped out of an airplane, ran numerous tough mudders, put stitches in my hand (when I was much younger and crazier), totalled 3 cars ... to name a few. I love to take risks and do crazy #tlap
A3: I like to challenge the status quo. I like to live outside of the box and take risks. Whether in my classroom or in leadership, I love being able to do my thing. Others view it as risky, but I enjoy it! #tlap
A3: I think this is practically my own personal mantra! I worked on cruise ship in Alaska in college; moved 4 hours away from family and friends to start new job; etc #TLAP#sorryIdontrunanywhere
A3: Everything I do is "crazy." #FlexibleSeating , sing with my band at a prison, get to know people online (Twitter/Voxer #PLN ), dress up as "guest speakers" for class, etc. #tlap#RunLAP
A3 Crazy would be taking my two kids with #autism on their first airplane trip the days after gallbladder surgery. Small plane, free ride, totally scared totally worth it #runlap#tlap
A3: I removed hall passes from our school (7-12) because I wanted our students to learn to become responsible and prepare for college. Every teacher looked at me like I was crazy. Looking back, I was. I didn't have their buy-in and the policy failed BIG TIME. #tlap#runlap
A3: I want to host another #twitterchat. I did it once last year for @Seesaw and it was horrifying, yet terrific at the same time. I want to jump into it more because I LOVE sharing my passion for teaching. #tlap
A2: #tlap 2 weeks ago.Flew across the country, left my sons for the first time in their 15 & 18 yrs (even though the 18yo is a college junior😳) & wrote the rough drafts of my 10 points, prospectus, &proposal & a paper on kindness leadership, then flew home 9 days later. 140 pgs
A3: I’m like a boulder rolling down a hill, people have stood in my way saying that I can’t do it, but the haters can’t keep me down. I’ll knock it out of the park. My career has not been a normal path, but I won’t stop my goals. Music T to science T to Inst Coach #Runlap#tlap
A2: Yesterday! It was my 6th day in a row walking and running after 3 week intensive/frustrating rest for a toe injury. I’m determined not to miss another race this summer. I already missed a 4th of July 5K. #runLAP#tlap Outcome? No pain! 🤗👟👟
A3: Teaching kids that Art even though crazy, is important too. #tlap (Also, taught summer art school to some middle school kids. 2 wks after summer started.
I’ve learned that through all the chats I’ve participated, the biggest take always have been the new connections made & the reflections I’ve had #tlap#RunLAP
#tlap A2: So my colleague and I made this short video about the GAP year and internships and sent it to @elonmusk. It's a video that talks about the direction that we think education should go. We're still waiting for a response.
Q3: I have traveled a lot, including by myself. People who once questioned/criticized me for wanting to see new parts of the world now ask where I'm going next. #tlap#RunLAP
A3: I would like to start a consulting company that helps schools be great for kids. Focus on admin support, teacher development and IT integration. I would also like to write a book for @dbc_inc and still do what I'm passionate about....being a Principal! #runlap#tlap
Along with teaching lifeskills... which personally is always kind of funny to me, because I think people who teach general ed are crazy and can never imagine myself doing it 😂 #tlap
A3)You would not believe the responses I got when I decided teaching in a behavioral supports classrooms —- 16 years later I’m still in this game 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻 #tlap
A3: I ran a half-marathon (half way into my training) for my first scheduled half marathon. 6mi to 13.1 mi. I couldn't help it. I wanted to do something EPIC on spring break. You can do anything if you're passionate enough. #tlap#RunLAP
A3) If I’m talking about teaching it would be allowing my students to leave the class, wander the halls for a “labyrinth” and just trusting that they can handle certain content or activities! #tlap
A3) I've always wanted to tornado chase. I think it would be insane. Also, I think it would be more fun on a motorcycle. Aaaaannd that's where I lose people. Lol #tlap
A3) I think allowing my Ss to be honest with me & letting them be free in my classroom to make their own decisions scares others and it prob looks like chaos. Sometimes it scares me too!! #tlap
A3: I went hitchhiking and backpacking through Europe in the summer of 1988; people thought I was crazy but we ended up with such an amazing experience Hitchin' A Ride!
https://t.co/k2pVNpG5I9#tlap
A3. In GCIPL, when I chose to do a science project instead of a reading or math project! The naysayers, or negativity, said it would never work! Been there, done that! Little did they know that I used to teach! #tlap
Q3. I used to love running. Running half-marathons was my favorite and people think your nuts to run miles and miles. Life got in the way and I stopped. Looking forward to getting back to running half-marathons. Goals! #tlap#RUnLAP
A3: Professionally: to see the “ObserveMe” concept come to life in the schools I work in & visiting colleagues’ classrooms to see what else others are doing. We have to break down the walls of our classrooms! Personally: I want to run a 10k!#TLAP
A3: I decided to move to Leander two weeks ago to pursue an opportunity as an AP than to just stay where I was comfortable. I wanted to be near students, making a positive impact. #TLAP
A3: I've remained in the classroom rather than becoming an administrator. I catch flack all the time. However, I know my purpose and I'm happy and at peace with my decision. #Tlap#RunLap
A3: Not crazy by any standards, but for me it was a HUGE challenge to start a Voxer chat. I'm a hermit and rejection scares the wits outta me! But I did it! #TLAP
A3: Becoming a teacher. I should have/could have been many things, many people thought I should have been many other things...I am doing what I am meant to be doing for now! Working w/kids will always be in the equation. #TLAP
A3: I was a classroom teacher and didn’t want to sign my book away to a traditional publisher....started a publishing company w/ @burgess_shelley and @dbc_inc was born! Lots called me crazy! #whatever! #tlap
A3: #runlap#tlap My annual tradition of wearing holiday sweaters every day in December! I also won the town’s “most festive attire” award 4 years in a row at the Merry Mile 👟👟 event! 😂💯
A3: After college @BallState, I moved to Savannah, GA on a whim and didn’t know a single person there. Got a teaching job and met my wife within one week of being there! Best move I ever made! #tlap
A3: When I was in the classroom I gave responsibility to the Ss - set classroom expectations, hold each other accountable, design classroom, etc. For future, would love to write a book! #tlap
A3: I’m planning 6 half marathons in a row this year. It seems #crazy (yet totally possible!). I was hesitant to share w lots of folks at first but have been happily surprised at the friends and coworkers who it motivated to do their own thing or even join me. #tlap#runlap
A3: Invited a graffiti artist to our school this summer and I’ve given him free reign...the school is his canvas! It’s 2018, not 1958. Gotta change it up! No more “standard beige” walls!! #TLAP
Absolutely nothing wrong with that decision. I want to stay in the principal position as long as I can because any higher I go, the less student interaction I will have and that's my true passion. #tlap#runlap
A3: We are going to have a huge celebration on the first day of school. Red carpet. Music. Dancing. High fives. Call me crazy?? I don't care. Our kids will have a great first day. (Keep it a secret. I haven't told all the staff yet. ) He! He! #tlap
A3 Taught students at the AIG Summer camp without instructing at all. The whole week was student discovery and sharing with/teaching each other to learn. The other camp teachers thought I was crazy but it worked great. #tlap
A3: I think most people consider my teaching style to be a little crazy. Dressing up like different characters, building shelters in the woods while teaching native Americans, playing balloon pop math with darts in the room...etc. #tlap
A4: So we're being honest here... I have to say FEAR. I want to write - really write... and I'm so scared to actually start. I have an outline, I have the chapters in my head. I'm stalling to actually write it though. Before I'm scared, of both failure & success. #tlap
A4: Honestly... me. I could have started running more a year earlier. I could have said "no" to certain people that hinder my family financially and I have to tell myself: "I can do these things I want to do." "It starts with me." I can do it. #tlap#RunLAP
A4: Fear of failure. I’ve always been successful and on top of my game. I’ve always pushed myself to reach where I am but the thought of failing drives anxiety. #tlap
Q3: #tlap 1. became a teacher 2. Working on doctorate 3. Home school my 15 y.o. 4. My oldest went away for college at 16y.o. 5.Ihave urges to turn schools on their head and challenge people 😁 but I really try to do it with love ❤️
A4: I sometimes wait for others around me to take on an adventure. I have traveled around the world on my own and met some interesting folks. Looking to do something else. Maybe #TLAP#RunLAP will inspire me.
A2 Of late--Writing Be REAL.
Actually writing it wasn't hard, turning it in was super tough for me. So much of the REAL me in there to expose to the world. Thank heavens for @burgessdave to encourage me to slay that dragon of fear! #tlap#runlap
☠️👉https://t.co/D1Kiiu13ey
A4: Often it's just the fear of failure. I praise getting out of your comfort zone, but sometimes, especially with issues that affect other people, it's hard for me to jump in and just try it. #tlap#RunLAP
A3a: People question #community#collaborations we are part of in our #Kindergarten classroom. Kindergarten S’s (and their TEACHERS) are so much more capable than what people think! We’ve even created our own BURGER that was served at a restaurant to raise money for charity #tlap
Fear... Can I finish writing a book and be a " Good Dad" to my kids while running a school trying to be a "Good Principal" ? Afraid it's too much and I'll "fail" #tlap A4 #runlap
Wow! Was that near your house? I've been thinking for years about becoming a trained weather spotter. Doesn't take long. Don't know why I don't just do it. #tlap
A4: Good question. What is holding me back? Hmmmm. Can't put my finger on it. I have a completed picture book (just text, no illustrations) that I want to publish and can't seem to get it in the mail. Am going to change that. This week. New goal. #tlap#RunLAP
A4: need for sleep.. I have to force myself to go to bed every night because I get on such a roll (amazing how productive I can be once the kids are in bed) #tlap
A3-Just now hoping on tonight. I haven’t done it yet, but this year I plan to use a 🎤 and a stage w/ss this year. Morning meetings, reading our written work, and just dancing and having fun. Can’t wait for school to start! #tlap
A4: I sideline so many great ideas because of time. I’ve got to streamline my ideas and place them into a system where they can be accomplished in time if I choose to. Time has always been my greatest enemy. #RunLap#tlap
It’s so different. I went the other way. Lots of the secondary experience as teacher and admin then came to elementary. It’s completely different! #tlap
A4 sorry, you sparked my love for travel cord and cant get my mind off it, so I'm sticking to that trend and going with sometimes $$ holds me back #tlap
#tlap A4: Oh, I have a lot of ideas; I just don't have a lot of time. Since I am going to turn 50 years old this next year, I have made a list of 50 things/ideas I want to complete this year. I begin this journey in August.
A4: fear of my decisions rocking the boat for my children weighed heavily@on my mind. Support and encouragement from @saldanact and my kids caused me to take the plunge and move us all. It still weighs on me for other choices. #TLAP
#tlap A3: Started a new on-line community for teachers to share their homes: https://t.co/DKbuQkFipj is off an running just in time for the new school year. Nervous, excited, and #RunLAP. A4: Nothing! Lets roll.
A4: In the past it's been my own confidence and fears that have gotten in the way. Today it's an issue of time and capacity. I have some adventures that I have to finish first before taking on any new ones. #tlap#runlap
A4: I'd love to go back and get a 2nd Master's degree. But, I feel like I'm just getting too tired with age. I'm afraid of not being able to finish. #tlap#runlap
A3. I did a #GeniusHour activity in a Spanish 3 class. Very interesting with mixed results. Heard only a few crazy comments bc I didn't publicize it. This year I am doing the same thing plus a yearlong Personalized Learning Experience in Spanish 2. #tlap#runLAP
A4) “The Imposter Syndrome” holds me back. My nagging inner voice that whispers to me that I haven’t learned enough or experiences enough or tested my teaching strategies enough to confirm that I can branch out, YET! #tlap
A4: I find myself using my job and responsibilities and as a way of telling myself I shouldn’t take the plunge into something new or devote time to my own goals — I have become better about balance 🙌🏻 #TLAP
A4-Currently I'm afraid of letting down the students, teachers and families that I serve as I find my way as a leader! I know there is a learning curve, but I don't wait to fail those around me while I'm learning... #TLAP#LeadLAP
#tlap A3: Started a new on-line community for teachers to share or their homes with other verified teachers: https://t.co/DKbuQkFipj is off an running just in time for the new school year. Nervous, excited, and #RunLAP. A4: Nothing! Lets roll
A4: I worry about failure. I waited a long time to interview for a new job. I finally made myself take a chance. Decided I didn’t want to look back and wonder. #TLAP
A3: When I went to Spain last year & walked the “Caminito del Rey” known as “walkway of death” which was just recently reopened after renovations. 100 years old & 100 meters high, 3 kilometers long & only I meter wide walkway carved on the sides of the mountain #tlap#RunLAP
A4 The only thing I can say is excuses. Nothing here would really make sense because if it is important, we make time for it. I have several big ideas brewing and I seem to be good at making excuses. I need to be better at reorganizing my schedule. #tlap#runlap
A4: Nothing should hold you back from what you truly want to do. It's summoning up the courage, deflecting the self doubt, making time and getting after it. Leave no doubt that it can be done. For me, it's believing that anything is possible and just doing it. #tlap#runlap
#tlap A4) I've got my eye on nbct or starting a doctorate but I want to make sure I don't neglect my family's needs to pursue this dream... Just need to buckle down and do it
A4: Time - with a new addition to the family, as well as always wanting to plan things so they can be the best they can possibly be, that time is limited #tlap
A4 Really... nothing! I've been trying everything I've wanted to these past couple years and I don't plan to stop! Looking forward to taking big trips again as my own kids get older! #tlap
A4

"Sail into uncharted waters!"
-@burgessdave
The fear of the unknown can be intimidating, but PIRATES are willing to do it anyway. Just jump, you'll likely find treasure!
#RunLAP#TLAP 👟☠️
A4: fear of the unknown, possible failure. Perfectionist over here - but i am working on that one big time. I am enhancing my grit and my ability to rise when defeated ;) #TLAP#runLAP
A4: Being a Mom to my two young kiddos at home doesn't hold me back, but makes me hesitate with certain things. Anything that takes time away from them is non-negotiable until I know they need me a little less! #TLAP
A3 Running a marathon; people thought I was crazy or perhaps didn't understand the need for the challenge & changes it has brought to my work & my life #FillMyCup#RunLAP#tlap
A4: I usually go for things if I want them, but TIME can be a big deterrent. Working on balance to make sure I do all of the things well, not just done. #tlap
A4 The only thing I can say is excuses. Nothing here would really make sense because if it is important, we make time for it. I have several big ideas brewing and I seem to be good at making excuses. I need to be better at reorganizing my schedule. #tlap#runlap
A4: #runlap#tlap Priorities, finances, and responsibilities! I’m sticking to what I know and what works for me. #tlap#runLAP Sure, it would be a dream come true to run a race at Disney World, but I can’t rationalize the expense.
A2. Walk a mile for every student in my school....while being VERY out of shape. But I did it and we celebrated! Kids were more excited for me than even I was. #tlap#RunLAP
A3b: Starting @the_kind_club w/ another teacher I had never met in person was another project people rolled their eyes at. We put out monthly kindness challenges and often get hundreds of tweets from clubs all over North America who complete our challenges! 💙 #thekindclub
A4) There are some goals that require money, some that require more time than I'm willing to take from my family, some that would affect my kids too greatly. If I can do it, I do. Some take more thought and planning. #tlap
You've got this! I have two! Got my acceptance letter for my 2nd a week after finding out we were expecting our youngest, lol! Did it anyway. It was hard, but *SO* worth it! #tlap
One of my most significant memories was tchg a kindergartner through his chemo & remission. He changed us all. After my own daughter's health challenges, I became a diff person, too. I pray she'll have a super K yr, chnging everyone around her, appreciating all of life! #tlap
A4: initial reactions from others. This past year though, I have begun to “ignorethenaysayers” as @smgaillard says in #thepeppereffect which allowed me to create #ExpeditionSchnekser host a #TLAP book study at school, become a Grosvenor Teacher Fellow, and #paemst awardee
A4: Self doubt always manages to have such a paralyzing force. It’s just as powerful as the ability to believe in yourself. Working really hard to be DETERMINED this year to not let self doubt keep me from trying AND doing #tlap#RunLAP
A4 I often feel guilty for even thinking this, let alone writing it down tonight... but sometimes I feel like my boys hold me back. And I’m not saying that in a bad way, I love them to pieces and wouldn’t change anything for the world, but balancing is no joke! #tlap#runLAP
A5: Know that you are doing it because it matters to you. You can dream big and achieve. You can set goals and make them happen. It won't be easy, it never it. You have to go for it. #tlap#RunLAP
For me there is typically a fear of failure, rejection, etc. Once I get something in my head and I’m ready to get off the porch #GOTP and take the healthy risk, I go full steam ahead. #tlap#runLAP
This is my A4 too. My kids (3&1) take up time and tie me down - but they are the most amazing little weights I could ever ask for!!! My bigger dreams can wait for now. The smaller dreams I make time for and pursue. #tlap
A4- I hold myself back sometimes; because I need to reflect on what needs to be done; be more purposeful & ensure the timing is right for changes & new directions #RunLAP#tlap
A5 Focus on what truly matters: treating people right and being positive in all you do. Block out the negativity and avoid things that don’t move you or those around you forward #tlap
A5 - Block out the noise, keep your circle of friends tight, think big and act small, and don’t go shopping for new gadgets and gear, keep it light and tight! #tlap#RunLAP
A4: my biggest issue is not trying something new but forcing myself to reflect and revise those new experiences when they are fresh. Sometimes I need to pull back the reigns to reflect #tlap
A4 It was always the fear of failure but now I have to model what I preach. I have to show my daughters, students, and teachers that we have to go for it no matter what! #TLAP
A4) It’s funny in my class I go big and run with crazy ideas but when I have to work with others or pitch school wide ideas I get so nervous and worry #tlap
A2 - I’ve been working on riding 500 miles between end of school and beginning of school. This past Friday I completed a 40 mile ride. My ultimate goal is 50-60 mile ride so this was a big deal for me. Felt great and not as difficult as I thought #tlap
A5 It is all about priorities. Finding balance in life and finding time for the important things. Once priorities are set, just keep at it. Believe, dream, plan, and keep going after you want. Keep making an impact. Keep spreading positivity. #tlap#runlap
A5 being remembering to keep it simple- one step at a time. or in keeping with my theme, one penny at a time ;)
Celebrate small successes and get back up when you stumble. There's growth in failure, just keep moving forward #tlap
A5: I have prioritized my goals for this year and I’m going to do it. I’m going to start a channel on play and I can’t wait for my equipment to come in so I can start creating content and not just consume it. #RUNLAP#tlap
A5: Set daily goals. Check them off and make new ones. Feel a sense of accomplishment. Success is a journey, not a destination. Take one step at a time. #tlap
A5: From my own experiences, the key is to just make the first step. Like Nike says, "Just do it!" The first step is usually the most difficult. #Tlap#RunLap
#tlap A5: Just like what I want my students to do-set goals, complete pieces, one at a time, and be ready to go back and make corrections. It can be overwhelming, but completing it will be so awesome!
A5: Improve your craft by researching. When @renathunderhawk and I wanted to start a podcast we started listening to more, making a running doc of ideas and questions, and collaborating. #ShareMOEdu was born a few months later. #tlap
A5: To borrow from Nike, Just Do It. Going to create a task list, put "mail novel" on it, add other important things I need to do, and start doing them/checking them off. Next step, bigger goal setting list and steps to get there. #tlap#RunLAP
A5 I think for me it's writing down what's most important and staying focused on why I want to be a good dad, be a good admin, and why I want to share my family's story #tlap#runlap
A5: Goals and focus. Don't let the minutia get in the way of greatness. As my friend @TaraMartinEDU says, "Cannonball in!" and make it happen #tlap#BeRealEDU
A5-I would like to get in the habit of just starting... it may not be perfect, there may need to be adjustments, but I can't wait for perfection... Just start and adjust with time... #tlap#RunLAP
A4: Depending on the situation, things that hold me back are time/schedule, money, selfishness, perfectionism. In some places I need to push harder and some places I need to let it go. #LetItGOOOOOOOOOOO#tlap#RunLAP
A5: I need to focus on my bottom hands. My light bringers. Those who believe in me. I need to listen to them and believe in what they are saying. “The rest don’t score” -@JodyCarrington#tlap
A5: Knowing my priorities, helps cut the fluff. RE: School I have to ask myself does this help kids, dies it affect achievement, or is it distraction?? Then go from there. Try not to get distracted by all the shiny things #tlap#RunLAP
A3 - one of my dreams is to repurpose abandoned lots and turn them into community gardens in urban areas where I live/work in Philly. Most people think I’m crazy. I’m good with that, just means when it happens they’ll eat the food I grew. #tlap
A5: #tlap#runLAP Start with a goal and make a plan. For example, I’m trying to cut back on shopping and de-clutter at home and school. Along the way, I’ve found things I haven’t used in years and made decisions on whether to donate it, sell it or keep it!
A5: I have to jump in immediately. If I don't change my routine right away, I find there will never be the perfect 'right' time to make the change.. there's always an excuse or reason to wait.. #tlap
Oh my gosh. TWITTER! It took my a very long time to figure it out! Now, I’ve learned that it’s a valuable resource to help me grow professionally. Who knew? #tlap
A5: The pluralization of the word “priority” is a modern thing. Historically the word has only been used for single essential tasks. That’s what I need...a “priority,” not “priorities.” #tlap#runlap
#tlap A5: Keep it simple! Keep decisions about the students. Don't let the day to day grind pull me away from the focus of the students we serve. Reflect every night about the day.
A5: Always know your why. Sometimes I get caught up in minutiae and have to step back and think about if I really care about it. There are only a handful of things I care about at a truly deep level, but sometimes I get stuck arguing the surface level stuff. #tlap
A5: Start with a goal that is attainable and hold yourself accountable — I use Google Keep for everything, including my workouts, so I’ll do them 😂 #tlap
A5: First, figure out exactly what you want and the steps to get their. Then take those steps without looking back. Focus on just one thing/goal at a time. #tlap#RunLAP
A5: I ask Ss all the time - “how do you eat an elephant?” I get weird looks but we discuss one bite at a time. Find balance and do small chunks at a time. #tlap
You and @adamdovico inspired me and my team to do the same! We have two murals that were just completed along with several bathrooms. #KidsDeserveIt#Tlap#runlap
A5: Last year I focused on being more positive for myself & others. This year, I WILL be more determined to achieve my goals & help others achieve theirs. I’m determined to make a difference and not give up. I’m determined to try and keep trying no matter what. #tlap#RunLAP
A5 Keeping things simple is a challenge; but going after what you want, that's easier- plan, focus, regroup, try again- I guess that's kind of sounds simple, but it takes commitment #runlap#tlap
A5: I chose to communicate more openly with my husband and children. It’s okay to find balance between what I want to do for myself and what I want for them. #TLAP
Wake up early...nothing more peaceful than 3:45AM...schedule as much as possible...run YOUR race #tlap#runLAP ...oh and remember tomorrow is another day to do better
A5. Never forget what my ultimate goal is and never give up on that goal. When things get challenging know who the right people or #pln are to reach out to when in need. #tlap
#TLAP#runlap Q2 - I’ve been training for USA Triathlon Age Group Sprint Nationals but swimming has always been hard for me. This last week I swam our river and wanted more! Can’t wait for nationals in 2 weeks. Never thought I would ever do this but I know I got this!
A5 Dont always try to reinvent the wheel every time you tackle something a new task. Work on prioritizing things you do and keep what makes you happy on the forefront!#tlap
A5) I need to just make small goals and work towards them one step at a time. I also need to remember not everyone will like me or my ideas and that’s ok #tlap#RUNLAP
A2: I started a diet in April and I thought it was going to be rough. But once I got into a routine it worked out great. I'm down 40+ pounds and still losing. #tlap
A4: I ran from Salt Lake City to Las Vegas (475 miles) for my 40th birthday a few years ago. And just to make it even crazier, I did it in the summer! #tlap#runlap
A5: Eliminate the things that aren’t working or getting the desired results. Can’t afford to spend time on things that aren’t helping you improve. #tlap
A4 - honestly the thing that’s slowing me down is time. I’m good at time management but I have three kids at home (and one in college) who need to go to a variety of places because of work, sports and extra curricular activities. It’ll slow down next year though #tlap
A3: 22 years ago I left my home state with my then boyfriend (now Hubs). We moved four states away (we had jobs here) so we could afford to LIVE (on something other than 🍜). We got married, bought a SFH & are raising our boys. Diff jobs but still together! 💪🏼 #tlap
A5) I’m my case, hush my inner naysayer & silence my head, get clear on what I want, make & take opportunities to accomplish it, accept that “no’s” can be a blessing in disguise. #tlap
A6 - For my 30th birthday I hike 500 kilometers across France, it was amazing and super hard to say the least. Met amazing people, delicious food and the Alps are beautiful! #tlap#RunLAP
Q3. Walk the Katy Trail in honor of my sister. It was our dream when she was ill and needed motivation and now I want to walk it for us both. Even I think it’s crazy, but it’s my goal. #tlap
#TLAP#runlap Q3 - I try to do crazy stuff a lot at school because it gives people joy. Be it a flamingo suit or TRex costume or high five fridays. Sharing joy seems crazy too many.
A5) First I accept that I can't do everything and know that if I put something in I need to choose something to let go of. I commonly get stuck in trying to do everything. In accepting that, I can then focus that energy on the goal. #tlap
A6: I'm the father to 5 amazing kids...so I guess that's more than just one thing but I'm most proud that all of my kids are good people and people always tell me how nice they are and how kind they are #tlap
A3 Last year, my 1st graders created a humongous plan to practice & lrn abt money authentically - from their starbucks, chic-fil-a & grocery store to their job-getting & charitable donations. Our village took over, but we all lrnd so much abt math & life! #tlap
A6: I proposed to my wife in front of the Vatican in Rome! I was 20 at the time and only halfway through college. We have been married 8 years this November and we have 3 amazing boys! #tlap
A6 Collaborating with classes around the world. Going down to surprise @bmilla84 's class in March. Never thought I would pull that off. Also starting #bekindEDU with @MrCoachEli and a Twitter chat. So many incredible things all because of virtual connections. #tlap#runlap
A5 - I wanted to get back into shape. Had a bike, love being outside so I decided to set a 500 mile goal and then get after it. Cracked my 400th mile on Friday in less that 2 months. My feeling is... what’s next? #tlap
My 30th was on an educational trip! Lake Titicaca, students threw me a surprise dance party at the Reggae-Pizza Bar (?) next to our hotel. 30ths are good ones! #tlap
A6: These two - lost three babies before we were able to have Bailey (the 9 yr old) and then Sophie (5 yr old) was a bit of a surprise - they are my world. #tlap
A6: I'm most proud of Army moments. Learning to push myself. Mostly I've learned that we can do so much more than our mind thinks we can...whether it be marathon, ruck march, or any other physical activity. Mind over matter. :) #tlap
A6: Well, being a parent and marrying my wife are numbers 1 and 1a, but aside from that, losing 70 pounds in less than a year and getting my health in order. #tlap#runlap
A5 Just run and jump! Stop worrying about making the biggest splash. JUMP! Keep it simple and go for it. Learn along the way. #tlap#runlap
CANNONBALL IN! #REALedu@tishrich
A6 I raised an amazing, classy, kind, smart daughter. She turns 21 in about a month and I can truly look back and say I would not do a thing differently. Love her to pieces. #tlap
A6: To this day, my greatest achievement has been receiving a college education. Being a first generation college student and graduating with summa cum laude honors was challenging, but it wasn’t hard. It was worth it. #tlap
A6: Currently, other than having my children (that's cool, right?), it's getting to sing with my band and open 4 Hawk Nelson (Google them if you don't know the band) concert this past Saturday. Totally amazing nerve wracking totally awesome and WORTH it experience. #tlap#RunLAP
#TLAP#runlap Q4 - I am working on “20 seconds of courage” to try new crazy ideas. I’m headed to a new school in the fall and don’t know folks. I am fearful they won’t appreciate my awesome humor. 30 seconds of courage ...
#tlap A6: I earned two Master's Degrees, one in Secondary Education and the other one in Reading. I did this while raising 6 children and having a full-time job. My advice to young Ts is to get other degrees before you start a family; it's too time consuming.
A6 Collaborating with classes around the world. Going down to surprise @bmilla84 's class in March. Never thought I would pull that off. Also starting #bekindEDU with @MrCoachEli and a Twitter chat. So many incredible things all because of virtual connections. #tlap#runlap
A6: Completing an 8K as a family. The fact that my husband, two daughters & I did that as a team will always be one of my favorite memories. We encouraged each other & crossing that finish line & holding up our medals was remarkable! #tlap#RunLAP
A6: being a teacher is pretty cool, but I would say spending summer between freshman and sophomore years working on cruise ship in Alaska is a pretty close second #TLAP
A1: Contentment. Not stagnation, but true contentment. I read the other day that “happiness was the point where what you want and what you have intersect.” #tlap
A6) I’m proud that I worked so hard, saved money, and went with an amazing bf to Nashville, Jacksonville, and Disney. I checked 2 things off my bucket list: 1)See the ocean 2)Go to Disney! #tlap#RUNLAP
A6. Kind of like stair steps. Each time I do my “coolest thing” something new pops up. Not sure which one is the coolEST and MOST proud. Alaska has been at the heart of my biggest adventures over the last 4 years. #TLAP
Thanks :-) I don't share a lot about my kids on Twitter (that's what my FB is flooded with though) - but I'm so very proud of them and love the ladies they are becoming. #tlap#RunLAP
