A2: My parents were both HS Ts, so I basically grew up in school. I was always surrounded by Ts. Lots of inspiration. For students, we need to take time to really listen to what they are passionate about and help them find ways for them to connect with their dream. #122edchat

A2 My coop placement in HS and my grade 10 and 11 teachers (K. Dignazio, Ms. Kovacs) instilled a passion and love of learning/teaching. Through relationships, passion, heart, I hope to inspire students to find their own passions. #122edchat

Q2: Peter Parker (Spider Man)was inspired by his uncle ben, who was killed in a robbery, to become a superhero. Who helped foster your love of wanting to become an educator? How can we use our powers to inspire students to find their “love”? #122edchat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A2: Mr. Miller, Mrs. Wiegand, and Mrs. KB. Each one of them made a profound impact on my life and when I decided to do teaching instead of law I truly believe thinking about these teachers helped me make that decision. #122edchat
A1: My superpower is my thirst learning. If I am excited about learning new things, I think that can create the same in teachers and students! #122edchat
A2- I just knew this was my vocation from a young age. We need to help them find things they are good at and what they feel passionate about. Once they find that LOVE we need to help them explore it. No matter what it might be. #122edchat
A2: my mom @mrsjordanrms for sure! Her passion for it still runs deep.

People often confuse sarcasm with a sarcastic sense of humor...usually those without a sense of humor altogether cannot distinguish between the two and complain the loudest. #122edchat
A2: My 5th gr T Mrs. Pellegrini! She had such a unique way of teaching, which in today's world is our "normal," but back then was very non-traditional. #122edchat

A2: Yes, I can vividly remember a high school teacher who sent my parents a positive email, and from then on, I knew that I wanted to make that same kind of impact. A college professor also made a difference, and I have an infinity charm on my bracelet to remind me. #122edchat
A2: Use our powers to allow for more choice by our students. I know I love learning more when I have some choice in what I’m learning about. #122edchat
A2 My grandparents, both educators and my mother, an educator. Have to keep the family tradition going. I think it is in the blood. I think we can inspire others to follow in our footsteps by being positive and focusing on relationships just as much as our content.
A2--My family. We all teach/coach and believed that giving back to others was our calling. I also have to give a shout out to the teachers and coaches I had. Never really saw myself doing many other things. As long as I can remember, I knew I would teach. #122edchat
A2- Mrs. Jordan, my second grade teacher inspired me! She knew I was capable of so much more than I was giving! I never forgot that lesson! I encourage my Ss to push themselves beyond their own expectations.

Anyone that took a chance on me and pushed me to be a better person should be credited with helping me be an educator. Building relationships and giving students a voice is a great way to inspire students to find what they love #122edchat
A1) My #superpower is my ability to envision a better tomorrow for kids. When the signal for help is seen I am on my way.
With the help of my superpowered friends we take steps to make that vision a reality. #122edchat#Batman
A1: I am one of those people who always has a crest story to tell. And I share many of them with my students. Whenever I want to get their attention, I start telling a story to a few kids. By the end, they are all staring at me intently. #122edchat
A2 Mrs. Wright in the 2nd grade and Mrs. Butler in 11th grade, and Ms. Flood & Mrs. Wesson in my senior year. They taught me how to work harder, reach higher, and how to recognize my passion for writing. #122edchat

Q2: Do you remember who helped foster your love of wanting to become an educator? How can we use our powers to inspire students to find their “love”? #122edchat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
Q3:In the movie Clash of the Avengers, Ironman guides spiderman through some tough times. There are Many times our students come to us for guidance. What are some “tips” you would give a 1st year teacher who has a student in need of guidance? #122edchat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
Those positive messages can go a long way. I love how things like @Seesaw make this so easy to do. Nothing beats a handwritten letter or phone call though. Keep it old school :) #122edchat
#122edchat A2: No kidding, the person who probably inspired me to teach most was Mr. Miyagi. So subtle, so interested in the person. Developing trust and love before content. That's still the T I aspire to be.
Q1: Unlike most superheros, Batman does not have any super powers. Batman relies on his skill sets to keep him learning new ways to save the day. What is your #1 power that keeps students engaged and eager to learn more? #122edchat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A3: No "vaulted" items. If a student is sharing heavy stuff, you need to find a safe outlet in which you can share. Reaching out to your veteran teachers is also helpful. The "mighty oaks" once were "tiny saplings", as well. With age comes wisdom and maturity. #122edchat
A3: Really listen to what they're saying and not saying. You don't need to be their friend, so don't fall into that trap. Become a trusted adult in their life who they know they can come to at any time. #122Edchat
A3 My advice: listen with your heart, listen to understand. Be there for students. Make it about relationships. When we start out, we are so focused on standards and content we sometimes forget about the student and heart before us. Be the best person you can be. #122edchat
A3 Spend more time listening than talking and don't pretend you have all the answers. often Ss just need someone to listen to them w/o judgement. #122edchat
A2: My history teacher inspired me to become an educator. His classroom was filled with creativity & love. Students can always find their passion in the classroom. It’s up to us give them different opportunities to use their imagination & let their inventiveness shine. #122edchat
Glad that you are modeling that for your staff, Jay! My first principal made huge investments in my life by teaching me that same mentality. I am a better teacher because of Mr. O'Donnell. #122edchat
A3: Listen... sometimes you are all the student has and they just need someone to be in their corner cheering them on or that shoulder to lean on #122edchat
I love this! I still remember a pep talk that my 4th grade teacher gave me. It's amazing how one person who believes in us can alter the course of our lives! #122edchat
A2.2- We have the power to change our Ss lives by instilling a love of learning. We need to engage them with choice and some ownership/control in their learning. #122edchat
@ahollandedtech When I am a teacher, I plan on having conversations with each individual and to show an interest in what they are saying. This is so important because they will feel welcomed and loved. #122edchat
A3: Be there. Listen. Care. Build that relationship. You won't always have the answer to everything but just being there & caring & listening makes a huge difference! #122edchat
I never knew it until I was in college. I always loved school and loved learning but it took some twists and turns before realizing this was the calling! #122edchat
Re-assessment. And patience. I do not feel the need to answer every question. My responses are calibrated to encourage the next step towards an answer. If I give them the answer, that means I give up on their ability to figure it out. #122edchat
A3 Build a relationship, model the level of respect and trust your hoping for, get to know and appreciate who they are, be patient, consistent, firm, loving, nurturing, and there for that child...even when they don't make you want to be. They want you there. #122edchat
A3 Know your students...really take time to know them. Listen to them- they will tell you what they need from you. Be patient. Good teaching takes time. #122edchat
A3: Be personable, be patient, and listen. Sometimes Ss don't have that at home, so they need that at school. Check in on them and show interest. Put in the time and effort. #122edchat
A3- Listen more than speak. Sometimes you need to really hear them. Ask for help yourself. Sometimes if I don't feel comfortable giving advice I will involve another trusted adult in our conversation. Remember you do not have to have all the answers. #122edchat
A3: Truly listen. Value every word as you listen to understand, not to respond. Build trust and a relationship that can truly make a difference.
#122edchat
A3: Listen more than you speak. Sometimes students just want a safe space to come and vent to. Do not be obsessed with having the right thing to say, be obsessed with doing the right thing for your students. #122edchat@ERobbPrincipal@misskoplin
A3 LISTEN TO YOUR CLASS. Theres a good chance you can figure out what kiddos need by listening to their interactions with peers. Build the relationship 1st and then try and help #122edchat
Q3:In the movie Clash of the Avengers, Ironman guides spiderman through some tough times. There are Many times our students come to us for guidance. What are some “tips” you would give a 1st year teacher who has a student in need of guidance? #122edchat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A2: The teachers in my life in middle school were the only people I really had. School was my@happy place because I felt loved. And I think because of that, I was naturally drawn to become a middle school teacher. They listened and related. I try to do the same. #122edchat
A2) The inequity in society that was reinforced through labels and gaps in education helped me answer my calling.
Every student deserves the opportunity to be supported and encouraged to achieve their dreams. #122edchat
Q3: It is ok to tell a Ss you need time to think about it if they need guidance (not something immediate or pressing) so that you can craft a great response. It is also ok to be real and vulnerable...relatable. Just keep it professional! #122edchat
A2. In college, I worked with 2 professors for undergraduate research in physical chemistry who helped guide the way!A2b. Introducing our Ss to various aspects of areas to explore and exp. to find their love of learning and calling! #122edchat
A1: This sounds super cheesy, but love is my super power. Students know I care about them and that I am passionate about the material I teach. When you love what you do, it is contagious. #122edchat
A3 #1 Be approachable! Smile from day 1 & get to know Ss as people #2 Be available! Before school and at lunch, kids can hang, work, get help, etc. #3 Be aware! The kids may have a lot going on outside of school that may affect their behavior and academics in school. #122edchat
Q3:In the movie Clash of the Avengers, Ironman guides spiderman through some tough times. There are Many times our students come to us for guidance. What are some “tips” you would give a 1st year teacher who has a student in need of guidance? #122edchat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A3 What Ryan said! One of my superhero Twitter chat powers is quoting the awesome tweets of others and "borrowing" their answer. Thanks for the assist, Ryan. You nailed this one ;-) #122edchat
In order to guide, we first must listen. Truly take the time, which I know is on short demand, but it is time well spent. Listen then support them to find their answers. We need to help them for the future to become self-reliant. #122edchat
A2 #122edchat my Hs photog T @snapshoted showed me the effect a T with compassion & energy can have on a student. She came in every morning like it was a Christmas. It was amazing. I wanted to do that too. We can create a safe environment to for Ss to explore their strengths.
A3.2- You don’t always have to give a solution. Listening and using questions to help them process a solution on their own teaches them how to deal with life. #122edchat
A3: A former teacher told me that students wont care about what you know until they know you care. As a student teacher, I try my best to really get to know my students and show them that I am invested. #122edchat
A3: Be present when offering guidance to Ss. If you have strong relationships with them and are truly invested they will be more open to listening when you offer support. #122edchat
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
Q3:In the movie Clash of the Avengers, Ironman guides spiderman through some tough times. There are Many times our students come to us for guidance. What are some “tips” you would give a 1st year teacher who has a student in need of guidance? #122edchat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
I love this! Sometimes we just think of attributes. But you shared "things" you actually do! Thats huge. Other Ts can come to you for help with that skill. #122edchat
A3 Use the 2X10 strategy. Spend 2 minutes with the students for 10 straight school days. Let them talk about what they want and then learn about their interests so you can make connections. #122edchat
A3: Listen and don't "pretend" to know what the child is going through, but let them know that you can sympathize w/ them & offer them as much or as little as they want from you. #122edchat
A3 Being a teacher in training, I am open to suggestions on how to guide a child in their learning. I agree with @kim_lohse4 when she says to listen to the child because they might show us the answer. #122edchat
A4: I try to be as present as possible and make it known that I am there for whatever they need. I think that knowing when to let people explore or when they need intervention is important #122edchat
A4 I make them stronger by being there to uplift, to celebrate, to support and to encourage them. I try to be there for them, I forge relationships; I do what I can to make magic happen and eliminate obstacles. Lead with your heart and you can never go astray. #122edchat
A4: We strengthen each other as colleagues by sharing each other's successes and celebrating them. We can strengthen our students academically by having high expectations for them - socially, by modeling happy and healthy relationships. #122edchat
A4: As a leader of students and teachers, you must join in the reflection process with them. It's not always helpful to be barking corrections at people, but instead, come alongside of them. What if we listened, then shared, brainstormed, and then watched the growth? #122edchat
A4 Make sure Ss have the tools to be able to perform at their best. Empower them to try and take risks. Create a classroom culture that encourages collaboration and compassion. #122edchat
I love this. I think I do a good job of being approachable and available but I need work on becoming more aware. I like how you worked that in. I wonder how much I miss in the day to day busyness. #122edchat
Such crap, right? I'm not a big fan of doing things just cuz they've always been done that way. I'd want to know my teachers liked me (which they did not, btw). #122edchat
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A3) I would tell them that they are more than the content they teach to their students.
The impact you have today may not manifest until years later just remember you planted the seed through your actions that you modeled. #122edchat
A4: Constantly challenging them.. if they get an answer right, I usually will ask can you solve it another way? Can you draw it in a picture, etc? "Productive struggle" helps them grow and get stronger academically.. Ss need it! #122edchat
A4: Support and Belief. Support everyone in any way you can. Extend help and trust often without seeking any in return. Believe in others power to make a difference.
#122edchat
A4 convincing everyone around me that building empathy is a worthwhile task. When we lead by example and we show empathy and we show that everyone deserves a fair shot and deserves to be heard, we build incredible communities #122edchat
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A4: I jokingly say that I am a social butterfly. I will talk to pretty much anyone, and I am hopeful that will help everyone feel wanted and cared for. I use this to help Ss grow. I also love advocating for Twitter PLNs to help colleague grow professionally. #122edchat
Over time, the kids know that they can share and show you things. Today was one kids showing me his cool scooter trick (via video). Another day it's a kid walking in my room saying, "Mrs. H, I need a hug!" #122edchat
A3: I made a connection with a student today because he was reading the book "quiet" by @susancain. I have the adult version, and I told him that I am also an introvert. So important to have those small conversations. #122edchat
A4: Lead by example. Put yourself out there by showing Ss & colleagues you are willing to take risks to improve teaching & learning. #RCSRC3#RCSNextGen#122edchat
Big Problem Little Problem...Something we need to really keep in mind when working with kids. You are so right. Might be a little problem to us but a HUGE problem to them. #122edchat
A4: Be the change you want to see. Start a book group, give a professional development training, offer an after school program or start a new initiative at your school! #122edchat
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A4 Make sure Ss have the tools to be able to perform at their best. Empower them to try and take risks. Create a classroom culture that encourages collaboration and compassion. #122edchat
A4: Find their strengths & celebrate their success. Focus on the positive. Share the awesome! Keep challenging them & pushing them to reach for more! #122edchat
A3. Listen to what Ss have to say and share. If a Ss comes to you with a problem, listen to understand from their perspective. Then try to resolve the issue the best way possible working with them. #122edchat
@markgregston does a fantastic segment on Sunday nights called, “Parenting Today’s Teens.” He asks questions and says little during his interviews. He asks kids to share and reflect without judgement, doesn’t assume, and withholds judgement. I want to be like that!#122edchat
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A3.2- You don’t always have to give a solution. Listening and using questions to help them process a solution on their own teaches them how to deal with life. #122edchat
A4 Since I am a teacher in training, I am eager to hear some answers. When I am in the classroom, I plan on making students and colleagues stronger by showing them their true potential. This will help boost their confidence! #122edchat
#122edchat A4: Mathacognition. A bi-weekly Q&A between me and each student using a Google-doc. We reflect on emotions, process of learning, choices, recognizing what works and what doesn't. In my class, it's more important they learn about themselves than just about math.
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A(2) I think? This is the lady who made education amazing for me and 1000’s of other 4th graders throughout history. Mrs. Blough is a super hero. #122edchat#betheone
A4 You need to be there for them as often as possible. Visit classrooms, take part in the learning, join students for lunch and recess. Just be there! #122edchat
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
I cannot tell you how amazing it is that you are here as a pre-service teacher! Please follow @MsJachymiak if you aren't already - she is a great example of what a strong PLN can do for you before you begin your career! #122edchat
A4: Give opportunities for every person to have the chance to speak; ideas need to be shared, not hidden. Then, show interest in those ideas. #122edchat
A5 I have tried to give Ss more room to learn at their pace. I provide different ways to access the info, and let Ss have some choice. I try to do at least one hands-on thing, and I love a good song! #122edchat
Q5. The flash is someone who is constantly speeding through life, much like today's society. How do you slow instruction/learning down to make sure students are enjoying the process and students are becoming lifelong Learners? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw

As a grad student, a HUGE part of my ed tech class has been beginning to establish a PLN! It is amazing to see how much we can learn and grow from engaging with a PLN. #122edchat
I came across a little pushback today and it was hard not take it personal. I just had to remind myself that it’s never about me, but always about THEM. They may be going through a struggle at home. #122edchat
I cannot tell you how amazing it is that you are here as a pre-service teacher! Please follow @MsJachymiak if you aren't already - she is a great example of what a strong PLN can do for you before you begin your career! #122edchat
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A4: I try to show Ss it's ok to take risks, it's ok to fail at something, it's ok challenge ideas, it's ok to ask questions. I'm starting small, but I'm trying to get them to grow and take ownership. #122edchat
Q4: Ss need need the structured freedom... Time to research, create, and discuss. I try to give them tools on how to manage challenges: support and guidance versus a rescue. I try also give them challenges and show that learning is valuable and fun. #122edchat
That is phenomenal, Julie. Taking a step back to think about how many lives we impact and influence throughout the course of our career. What will you do with your tomorrow? #122edchat
A4: Have high expectations for your colleagues and your students. Show them that you believe in them and support them as they grow. Be a hand to steady them, and that net to catch them when they fall. #122edchat
A4. Continually affirm students' gifts. Share these victories with Good News emails to parents. These emails build student confidence a ton! #122edchat
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A5: Searching for relevance in what we are doing. Always trying to find ways to connect the learning to their "stuff" and make it personal. Not everything will line up, but the effort is being made. #122edchat
A5: Live in those teachable moments - don't let them pass by or rush through them. Be okay with (and even encourage!) the days where you just sit and talk with your students about life. #122Edchat
A5 If you make the classroom about the students, give them more leadership and personalize learning, it won't be as much a calendar of content/skills as it will be a system to support learning. We need to make a shift to put the Ss & their learning at the center. #122edchat
A4: I do not let my students settle for anything less than their very best just like @taylormali says in "What Teachers Make". If my students say they do not know something, I make sure to say "yet". I hope I come off as a caring teacher. #122edchat
A4: There’s an immense power in the 1-on-1 meeting. Almost any superhero plot (Avengers, X-Men, Batman) sees the most character development in it #122edchat
A4 Question and support. Make sure they are the ones doing most of the talking. @TiffanyPoirier, helped me realize the power of a question. You can build their interpersonal and social skills by creating and maintaining a safe environment to take some risks. #122edchat
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A5-I try to take time and savor the experience with them. Break things down for them, so that they feel successful. I try to show them on a daily basis how much I love to learn new things. #122edchat
A5: I make sure to embed breaks/checkpoints where we all just stop and discuss, question, or digest. It also helps to model it in my own teaching/work. #122edchat
A5: I spend lots of time answering questions during direct instruction. I try to answer every single question. Some see it as time wasting. I see it as curiosity encouraging. #122edchat
A5: Take advantage of those teachable moments... accept that it is ok to go off the lesson plan; sometimes more learning takes place in these authentic moments #122edchat
Authenticity is huge. I make it clear to my kids that I am their teacher first but that I will be always be myself & honest w/ them. When they observe me laughing and being so utterly comfortable w/ who I am, they naturally feel at ease to be themselves, too. #122edchat
A4 #SharingIsCaring Need help or ideas? Just ask! If I don’t have answer/resource or know someone who has answer/resource, I'll find it for you or point you in right direction. With Ss, I try to empower them to advocate for themselves to take charge of their learning. #122edchat
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A5 Workshop model helps me to always have my finger on the pulse of the class. I can slam on the breaks on teach a mini-lesson to create new growth. #122edchat
A5: This happened yesterday - I wanted Ss to finish their blog and I felt like I was rushing them. I even said - I'm trying to get through this unit before Spring break. The next day I apologized, we slowed down, and we reflected on and they graded their own blogs #122edchat
Thankful that our kids come in during their lunch to work on their projects. I love just eavesdropping on their conversations. They have so much to share. #122edchat
Q5. The flash is someone who is constantly speeding through life, much like today's society. How do you slow instruction/learning down to make sure students are enjoying the process and students are becoming lifelong Learners? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A5: Especially in math, I always remind Ss to slow down and enjoy the process. It's not a race. I care that you understand what's happening, not that you finished first. #122edchat
A3 tip: listen with your heart.
Don’t listen to respond, fix, repair, or reply.
Listen with your heart to hear
..and understand
..and maybe empathize
#122edchat
A5 We use surveys to gauge the room periodically to make sure everyone doing all right. We take frequent breaks to make sure that kiddos are having a chance to explore their interest and not just the curriculum during the day #122edchat
Q5. The flash is someone who is constantly speeding through life, much like today's society. How do you slow instruction/learning down to make sure students are enjoying the process and students are becoming lifelong Learners? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A5: This week it has been about purposeful conferencing and just enjoying the learning. No rush just getting out more and visiting with my kids. #getoutmore#thankstim#122edchat@DrMaryHoward
Q5. The flash is someone who is constantly speeding through life, much like today's society. How do you slow instruction/learning down to make sure students are enjoying the process and students are becoming lifelong Learners? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A4: Social cred can be built with carefull observation & willingness to make others (Ss) greater. You have to look for opportunities. I use Projects & maker sessions. Example: there’s almost always a Ss who sees color or tales photos better than I do. #122edchat
#122edchat A5: How do I slow down learning? Re-assessment, re-assessment, re-assessment. And no penalty for learning it slower than others. I care what you know in May, not what you didn't know in December.
Q5. The flash is someone who is constantly speeding through life, much like today's society. How do you slow instruction/learning down to make sure students are enjoying the process and students are becoming lifelong Learners? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A5 Sometimes this is easy to forget when you get so caught up in the curriculum. This year, I've tried to make it more fun. Added crime scenes for drawing conclusions, glow in the dark paint for our space unit, and fun science experiments etc. #122edchat
Thanks for participating in tonights #122edchat. So thankful that I was able to co-moderate. Hope everyone can join #BeTheOne For Kids chat at 7:45 PM CST. Just 16 short minutes away.
Q5: I have learned that it is ok to go off plan when the discussion and places students take the learning have value. Teaching (and learning) is not about checking off skills taught when students aren't finding true and meaningful connections to the content. #122edchat
A4. I start off letting everyone know that we are all unique and different in the way we think, act, and talk, and work. We need to be kind and respectful of each other as we work together. Encourage Ss to take risks, listen to them, and support them. #122edchat
If you schedule it, it will happen. I have these conversations before school, in classrooms, at lunch and recess, and on the bus. They can happen anywhere. #122edchat
A5 Sometimes you end up off script because of questions that pop up, you have to just go with the topics they bring up and enjoy the conversations #122edchat
A5 There is no teaching if kids aren’t learning. You go at their pace. Check for understanding, tailor & customize as needed, often on the fly. Overplan to adjust when/where needed. And always stop for discussion; that’s where kids make connections to real world issues #122edchat
Q5. The flash is someone who is constantly speeding through life, much like today's society. How do you slow instruction/learning down to make sure students are enjoying the process and students are becoming lifelong Learners? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A5b Half the battle is convincing kids that school is not the enemy or bad place to be. If it takes teachers a few lessons looking ridiculous or tryong something new to get the buy in those Ss need, Im game! #122edchat
In my field observations, I am learning not only how important enjoying the process is but the fact Ss need to know it is ok to make mistakes. Every mistake is just an opportunity to grow. #122edchat
That's what it's all about. Reminds me of something I was reading in #empowerbook today!
"Personally, I am very fond of strawberries and cream, but ... fish prefer worms."
So important to meet EACH student where they are at. Bring out each chid's potential. #122edchat
A5: Take advantage of the teachable moments as they occur. Stop and discuss. It may put you off of your schedule a bit, but it will work out in the end. Students are more important than racing to the end of your plan. #122edchat
A2: It is hard to pinpoint exactly who inspired my love for teaching. Initially it was my 6th grade ELAR teacher, but then I wanted to go a different direction with a career... until I started volunteering after school at Truett Elementary in high school! #122edchat
Q5: I have learned that it is ok to go off plan when the discussion and places students take the learning have value. Teaching (and learning) is not about checking off skills taught when students aren't finding true and meaningful connections to the content. #122edchat
A5 It is important to go at a pace that is not too fast, nor too slow, for a particular child. If the pace is going too fast, it is important to slow it down until the students have a positive energy for learning. #122edchat
I just saw an amazing post from @fastcrayon sharing "If you really knew me, you would know..." anonymous posters placed for all to see. Such value in recognizing what others are going through or dealing with on the inside. #122edchat
Hey #fearlessedchat! Michael A. from #122edchat in Chicago. Cars in the future should be able to serve me pizza. I don't know. I really have a hankering for pizza. And they should fly, like the Jetsons.
A3 #122edchat Listen to them. At first, just listen. Don’t respond too quickly (verbally & non-verbally). Try to guide them if it’s an easy answer. But remember, as a 1st year teacher, it’s never frowned upon to ask others for help if you don’t know the best response.
Q3:In the movie Clash of the Avengers, Ironman guides spiderman through some tough times. There are Many times our students come to us for guidance. What are some “tips” you would give a 1st year teacher who has a student in need of guidance? #122edchat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
I really want to do a student #EdCamp...I've heard of this idea and love it....now to get colleagues on board.... I attend several EdCamps a year and always leave with something valuable #122edchat
Hi #fearlessedchat! Megan, 8th Science and co-founder of #122edchat. Hoping some of the #rowvastrong family will pop in for this chat about being #futureready! Cars will absolutely be like the one in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang. I hope.
A5 - pounce on those moments of legitimate fascination and wonder. Leave the curriculum behind for a minute, and let their natural curiosity guide. #122edchat

Q5. The flash is someone who is constantly speeding through life, much like today's society. How do you slow instruction/learning down to make sure students are enjoying the process and students are becoming lifelong Learners? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
#122edchat A5: if you only assess an item 1 time, and no grade can be changed with further learning, then you need to ask if you are grading learning and knowledge or merely speed of acquisition. #masterychat
#122edchat A4: Mathacognition. A bi-weekly Q&A between me and each student using a Google-doc. We reflect on emotions, process of learning, choices, recognizing what works and what doesn't. In my class, it's more important they learn about themselves than just about math.

A5. Sometimes, questions arise during the learning process which slows it down where we need to concentrate in areas a little longer! We may have to problem solve to figure out what went wrong and redo again! #122edchat
A5 ah- tricky one. Sometimes days are just for bonding over a few good books I read aloud! A simple hands-on activity... sometimes a simple discussion!! Kids like those occasional days and I go home feeling like I had a great teaching day on those ...slow is good. #122edchat
A5 I was terrible at this for so long. Still struggle at times. #flipclass in the math classroom was a big step for me to best utilize class time for this. It became more about the process than covering the content. I got out of the sprint and embraced the marathon. #122edchat
Q5. The flash is someone who is constantly speeding through life, much like today's society. How do you slow instruction/learning down to make sure students are enjoying the process and students are becoming lifelong Learners? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A4 #122edchat Teachable moments!! My favorite!! Teaching students how to stand up for themselves when opportunities arise. Teaching Ss how to be their own voice. Teaching them confidence, self-love & how to carry themselves without fear of other people’s opinions.
Q4. Thor is the strongest of the superheroes. In the classroom or school, how do you make students and colleagues stronger academically and socially? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A5 I remind the SS to not sweat the small stuff, to look at the larger picture, and to be proud of their language learning as it comes. Sometimes big things come in small packages. #122edchat
A1: Inquiry comes foremost to me. Even before I knew what types of ?s to ask - or which scenario to learn towards - I learned one, most effective ? that sustained me for months! "What do YOU notice about ...?" Hired mid-year in an inquiry schl, it's how I survived! #122edchat
A5. HUGE @CW_TheFlash fan here!
I've found that transitioning to a more student-centered classroom with hyperdocs or other students creating their own content has allowed us to hone in on learning throughout the process, rather than the passive sprint through curric. #122edchat
Q5. The flash is someone who is constantly speeding through life, much like today's society. How do you slow instruction/learning down to make sure students are enjoying the process and students are becoming lifelong Learners? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
Sharing this for my fellow Ed Tech classmates! This is a great way to engage for our PLN and I am personally learning so much from participating in these:) #122edchat#XUedchat

A4: Encourage and foster an environment that values a growth mindset. Celebrate growth, hard work, and learning! Today we took Reading DAs and so many students grew! We may not have 100s, but we are learning and growing. #122edchat
A5 #122edchat I love teaching reading & showing them how fun it can be. I do read alouds at all possible opportunists to show them how to get into character & bring books to life. My hope is they can imitate this passionate reading themselves eventually. ☺️
Q5. The flash is someone who is constantly speeding through life, much like today's society. How do you slow instruction/learning down to make sure students are enjoying the process and students are becoming lifelong Learners? #122EdChat@ahollandedtech@sheehyrw
A4. Jumping in late from MD. Thoughtful and constructive feedback, encouragement, and being available for questions or assistance helps students/colleagues. #122edchat
A2: Rdg amazing bks is critical. Not those sheets from the big SRA box in the corner, nor those 6 worksheets that went w/ every story in the fat primer; but, the beautiful, meaningful reading we did at home! That's the type of rdg that keeps my clsrm humming! #122edchat
A5: Small reteaching groups, offering lessons in a variety of formats to grab different learning styles, and seizing the teachable moments. Being flexible is key; change when necessary according to the students' needs. #122edchat
A5: I think if you focus on a deep understanding of each objective you can assure that lessons are slow and less stressful. By scaffolding we allow time for mastery. #122edchat
A3: Listen foremost. Secondly - and just as important - jot a few notes to ensure you have the complete picture. It's amazing how many times I believe I'll remember something... until something else comes along. You might need that info for all kinds of reasons! #122edchat
A5. I think the key to pacing is being in tune with Ss needs and letting them voice whether they need to slow down, speed up, or move on. Sometimes I will pause a lesson if I sense they are not enjoying the process, and ask what ideas they have improve it! #122edchat
A4: From convos & bk recs to math strategies & buddy rdg, Ss & Ts lrn immensely from each other! Lrng is social. The more Ss interact w/ content & others, the more exponential their growth becomes. How often a S "teaches" another struggling one who finally "gets it!" #122edchat
Thank you for this response. As a teacher in training all I can say is your greatest superpower is love. Show unconditional love and laughter to the Ss and the rest will fall in place. #122edchat
A4 Since I am a teacher in training, I am eager to hear some answers. When I am in the classroom, I plan on making students and colleagues stronger by showing them their true potential. This will help boost their confidence! #122edchat
Thank you so much to all of the #fearlessedchat and #122edchat families for making each Wednesday night such a blast! I am sad to go on hiatus, but it is what is best for family and I! Can't wait to show you all baby Miller!
