  • MsEhuber Oct 25 @ 11:09 PM EDT
    @mindyhintze without! I love canvas! Oops! #UTedChat
  • lars3eb - Moderator Oct 25 @ 11:09 PM EDT
You can teach just about anything in a blended format. And @CanvasLMS is a great tool, but the principles are the important part. #UTedChat
  • MsEhuber Oct 25 @ 11:10 PM EDT
A1 I think my population (Low SES) enjoys in class learning more. My ss struggle with tech & get frustrated easily. #utedchat

  • mindyhintze Oct 25 @ 11:11 PM EDT

    In reply to @MsEhuber

A1.5 But I think it depends on the training as well. If Ss have never had the chance to see how blended works it's difficult. #UTedChat
  • covili - Moderator Oct 25 @ 11:12 PM EDT
A1 My college Ss are fairly split. Most love the convenience of online, but still value the f-2-f connection of in-person. #UTedChat
  • chrferrin Oct 25 @ 11:12 PM EDT
A1 My ss like that they can go at their own pace at home, and get questions answered in class. #utedchat

  • TCSDSupt Oct 25 @ 11:13 PM EDT
I’ve been wondering about blended/flipped leadership and blended techniques for administrators. May be another good topic? #UTedChat
  • EdTecHakk Oct 25 @ 11:13 PM EDT
A1: S’s prefer blended learning? Depends on the learner, the topic, tech and teachers’ proficiency with blending instruction. #utedchat
  • lars3eb - Moderator Oct 25 @ 11:13 PM EDT
Thanks Dr. Rogers! Good to have you join #UTedChat tonight. Would love to hear some of the ways @TooeleSchools is using blended learning.

  • mzeyhakk Oct 25 @ 11:13 PM EDT

  • mzeyhakk Oct 25 @ 11:21 PM EDT
A2: Again, depends on how comfortable the T is with the tech being used for blending. Also depends on if they were forced or not. #utedchat
  • lars3eb - Moderator Oct 25 @ 11:21 PM EDT
Which is one reason why I really like @Flipgrid as a tool to facilitate in some pseudo F2F time when using blended learning. #UTedChat

A2 Type A personalities - (Most teachers) like to have control of the in and output BL accomplishes this by keeping it in a LMS #UTedChat
  • DaniKSloan Oct 25 @ 11:22 PM EDT
A2: I prefer teaching in a blended environment. I can provide more scaffolded resources for my Ss and answer questions in my PJs. #utedchat
  • mindyhintze Oct 25 @ 11:22 PM EDT
that's something I see around the world that is a barrier to Ts jumping into blended/online teaching - the front load is so big #utedchat
    In reply to @downrightdave

  • lars3eb - Moderator Oct 25 @ 11:23 PM EDT
A2 I think if Ts receive enough support they can like blended learning, but w/o training, many hate it! Shows importance of PD. #UTedChat
  • mzeyhakk Oct 25 @ 11:23 PM EDT
Are you making videos in your PJs? If so I understand why your classes are so popular!! (kidding) :-) #utedchat
    In reply to @DaniKSloan
  • EdTecHakk Oct 25 @ 11:23 PM EDT
There’s a difference between “tech savvy” and “tech fluent” - and students need to be fluent to learn in a tech environment. #utedchat

    In reply to @mindyhintze
  • lars3eb - Moderator Oct 25 @ 11:25 PM EDT
Exactly, but with enough help & training, they can see the benefit & how blended learning can increase both. Gotta have the PD. #UTedChat
    In reply to @EdTecHakk
  • EdTecHakk Oct 25 @ 11:26 PM EDT
Good tech allows good teachers to reach more students in more ways. Bad teaching with tech is just really expensive bad teaching. #utedchat
  • covili - Moderator Oct 25 @ 11:26 PM EDT
A2 I love online learning for how it reinforces concepts I’ve taught in class. Classroom energy is my fav part of teaching. #utedchat

#utedchat a2 while I love online learning there is a big learning curve and a TON of work on the front end. It's daunting and I'm tech savvy
  • mzeyhakk Oct 25 @ 11:28 PM EDT
A3: When the tech can't keep up with what needs to happen in the land of school real-time Ts, Ss and parents get frustrated. #utedchat
  • EdTecHakk Oct 25 @ 11:28 PM EDT
A3 part 1: Biggest Challenge currently in Utah with blended learning is data. Specifically SIS/LMS integration. #utedchat
  • lars3eb - Moderator Oct 25 @ 11:29 PM EDT
You mainly like it for the PJs aspect, which many people wear their PJs as clothes these days. #UTedChat
    In reply to @DaniKSloan
  • DaniKSloan Oct 25 @ 11:29 PM EDT
A3: It is initially difficult to decide what to do online and what to do in class. I find having a discussion due b4 class is 👌🏽#utedchat
  • mindyhintze Oct 25 @ 11:29 PM EDT
so the front loading, lack of adequate PD, and tech illiterate students sound like universal challenges #utedchat
  • EdTecHakk Oct 25 @ 11:30 PM EDT
A3 part 2: How is it my TomTom watch can tell my phone my HR and steps all day but not all classroom tech plays well together? :-( #utedchat
  • ronaldfisher Oct 25 @ 11:30 PM EDT
A3 Time, It is best if you can lay it all out before you start, a syllabus all laid out you can lay out the semester or content #UTedChat
  • mindyhintze Oct 25 @ 11:30 PM EDT
Data is a universal challenge too #utedchat
    In reply to @EdTecHakk

Is classroom/behavior management an issue in blended/online? #utedchat

A3: I would also add Digital Citizenship and Data Privacy/Security as big challenges. #utedchat
  • lars3eb - Moderator Oct 25 @ 11:33 PM EDT
Not only that, knowing how to use a device isn't the same thing as knowing how to use it for learning. Big difference between two. #UTedChat

A4 because it is BL in a LMS, use the extra time to get to know the students and design content to match meet the learning #UTedChat
  • lars3eb - Moderator Oct 25 @ 11:38 PM EDT
A3 Getting the platform/tool set-up is a HUGE challenge b/c it is so much work. Some Ts don't want to try b/c of all the work. #UTedChat
