Good evening everyone! Glad to be with you and @WaltKozlowski for #COLchat. I’m Frank Bellomo, Elementary Principal. Looking forward to talking about Ending With the Beginning in Mind. Our last day of school is this Friday. We are looking forward to a restful week off. #COLchat
A1. I am looking forward to spending a week with my family. I am sure our four children will help us fill the time. Maybe I’ll do some projects around the house as well! The only thing better would be spending the week in the Caribbean! #COLchat
Q2: How do you empathize with our students who are not looking forward to the break? What type of support do you (or your school/district) provide? #COLchat
A2. I think it is important to remember that not all of our Ss are looking forward to the holiday break. Not all of our Ss are in the best of situations. School is the safe place for these kids and we need to remember not to continually remind everyone of our time away. #COLchat
A2. Part 2: We can show support by reminding our Ss that we will miss them during the break and that we are looking forward to seeing them as soon as we return. Make it count this week. Continue building relationships and making connections. Be kind & show empathy. #COLchat
a2) #colchat difficult. One thing our community does...Pizza Ranch 12 days of Pizza. Helping families who may have food challenges. 12 different days of a free large pizza. Little things help.
A2: I always tried to be careful with my words leading up to break. I will never forget my experience in an inner-city school when the subject of Halloween came up. The experiences those kids shared was nothing like my own. Very sad! #COLchat
A2. I try to encourage Ss to take some time doing things they like, with parent permission of course. I've also been promoting family reading, hoping Ps take advantage of the resources I gave. I also tell Ss I'll be thinking of them & can't wait to talk when we return. #COLchat

A3. We will be having our monthly PBIS Paws assembly. These assemblies focus on celebrating behavior, mindset, positivity, and other accomplishments in our school. This last assembly of 2018 will involve our Holiday sing-a-long. The kids enjoy this. #COLchat
A3. Besides class parties, last thing I'll do is try to hug & fist bump as many as i can, visit each room to tell them I'll miss them, hope they have fun, be sure to read, & that me & OG loves them! #COLchat
How’d you know I do goofy videos? LOL. Actually I only have a few days to rewrite some lyrics. I think whatever I decide we are going to do it karaoke style with me leading them through it. Maybe some old school rap.....maybe something new needs to be rewritten! #COLchat
A3: QR code scavenger hunt to review the year so far. Students will work with their house members to earn points for teamwork and accuracy with tasks. #COLchat

A5. Ss should be greeted the same way every day. Greet them with a smile! Let them know how glad you are to see them! While some kids loved their break, others couldn’t wait to return. Don’t act like it’s an inconvenience to be back. Enjoy the opportunity! #COLchat
A5: We will be doing some team building and house events to reacclimate students to the school setting. We will rebuild the cultured collaboration and kindness to finish the year strong. #COLchat
A5. I will be outside, hopefully w/ a new skateboard Santa brings, fist bumping & giving out hugs. That first day i just want to park the mobile office in the main halls & sincerely talk w/ Ss. Listen, & remind them today is a fresh start. #COLchat
The character education piece is so needed in schools. We cram all the content we can into a day and forget we still need to teach kids to interact with each other and to be good citizens. We need to teach them to be a family. #COLchat
A6. Remember that the lack of structure for some can be an adjustment when they return to school. Be mindful and remind as needed. Ss will be excited to see each other. No matter what you will be doing, engage and inspire. School should be fun.Make them want to be here! #COLchat
I am in Elementary School. I love them both. I taught Middle School and was a Middle School AP. I became an Elem. Principal and am now in my 5th year in Elem. The kids are great in both levels. #COLchat
A6: Home can sometimes end a less structured and stressful place. We need to keep expectations high and work with students to be sure they are staying the course of our collective goal. #COLchat

Posting reminders for myself on the mirror, on my computer monitor, on my phone, etc.
