#leadupchat focuses on school leadership broadly, culture, changing paradigms, and the growth mindset. It's an Ed movement focused on Leadership, Culture, Growth and Shifts on Saturdays at 8:30am CST, founded by Jeff Veal (@heffrey) and Nathan Lang (@nalang1).
WELCOME to #leadupchat! We're taking a #mirrorcheck with today's chat, reflecting on our leadership as a way to prepare for the new year! Introduce yourself and get ready!
Morning #leadupchat! WELCOME to our conversation! Be sure to introduce yourself and always end your tweet with our hashtag!
Paul, #UVlearn principal from KS!
Good morning tribe! Jeff here, creator of #LeadUpChat, ready to dive in with @DouglasReeves today. Energized by the first week of school where I serve as an admin in North Texas!
Hey @Kerisnowden CT is leading the way with a Teacher of the Year hopefully going to Congress, I am inspired because of the collaboration and innovation ahead #leadupchat
Good Morning, signing in before our first official bell of the ‘18/19 school year! Kelly, 8th Science from AMCMS 2.0 in College Station, TX! Howdy Y’all!! #LeadUpChat
Good morning, friends! I’m Kaitlyn, or as my fellow middle school admin like to call me, Dr. Totz, from Frisco, TX :) Ready to learn with and from y’all this morning! #leadupchat
Good morning, friends! I’m Kaitlyn, or as my fellow middle school admin like to call me, Dr. Totz, from Frisco, TX :) Ready to learn with and from y’all this morning! #leadupchat
A1: Many small, intentional conversations, and doing everything I can to follow up with someone when they have shared something, whether it be a personal event, building need, etc. #LeadUpChat
Good morning folks - I’m Mitch, leadership coach working tonsupport Principals and district/charter-network leaders across the country! Based in NJ. Happy to join this chat. #leadupchat
Great point, Bobby - and if we focus more on reading, then we won’t be trying to cover every single standard. Leverage requires focus on a very few things - no more than six.
#leadupchathttps://t.co/9td2zVw02X
A1: For me it’s always been about building relationships to find individual strengths...once I find your strength I can utilize you effectively and help you grow. #leadupchat
WELCOME to #leadupchat! We're taking a #mirrorcheck with today's chat, reflecting on our leadership as a way to prepare for the new year! Introduce yourself and get ready!
A1. Empathy. I have tried to meet with each staff over the summer. I will be overseeing for the year. I asked them about their interest, goals, and what type of leadership works best for them. Other questions include their working style, how they seek feedback. #leadupchat
A1: Listening to learn. To understand how to best partner with district leaders, I need to listen to learn what literacy gaps they are trying to address BEFORE providing recommendations for training and coaching support. #leadupchat
A1: Transparency. I'm year four with our team, and I truly feel like I can push folks without hesitation. Trust, I feel it from our team. Feel like nothing will hold us back. #leadupchat
A1: Remembering that while it is our job to create systems that work, we can’t ignore the humanity of those we lead. I want to develop better interpersonal relationships with my teams this year. #leadupchat
A1. Encouraging our team to focus on the relationships that make our students love learning and to at time blend that time by sharing what they are passionate about as well. Through designated times throughout the year #leadupchat
A1 As an exec strategy mentor with school leaders I am doubling my efforts to move the perception of "soft" measures to critical leading indicators of measurable outcomes. Strengths development, wellbeing, engagement matters. #LeadUpChat
A1: This year I'd like to leverage the power of community. I can't do everything alone, and neither can anyone else. Ask for AND accept support. If you don't, not only will you suffer, but students will suffer. #leadupchat
High leverage strategies: Professional Learning Communities, Nonfiction Writing, Effective Feedback (to students AND teachers)
#leadupchathttps://t.co/9td2zVw02X
High leverage leadership strategy? Listening to kids. We often get hung up on programs, operational challenges, etc that we forget our purpose is to serve youth. We need to walk in their shoes and hear from them regularly. #leadupchat
#leadupchat A1 - As a counselor, I try to lead by clearing any distractions for our teachers. I’ll handle the details so they can impact the kids. Guess, I’m a lawnmower counselor!
A1: Empowement. Giving everyone in our school community (teachers, students, parents) the confidence, authority, and autonomy to create a meaningful learning experience. #leadupchat#ownyourimpact
A1: RELATIONSHIPS. I am new to my campus and still fairly new to being an AP, so building relationships with teachers, parents, kids, and our schools and district admin will be the best way for me to learn the people and needs of our school, and earn their trust #leadupchat
There are instructional and cultural levers. In the absence of great instruction we compromise our mission. In the absence of great culture, student learning does not thrive! #LeadUpChat
A1: Personalized PD for staff...focusing on our own passion projects to, in turn, encourage our students to develop and discover their own.
#LeadUpChat
First ES dropped in the chat. Bonus points for Neil! That's what makes us different in #leadupchat! We are more than digital warm fuzzies, folks. We have substance! #leadupchat
A1 I am not an administrator but so appreciate administrators that team build and make relationships priority, are transparent, consistent and remember you were once one of us!! #LeadUpChat
A1 Keeping my focus equipping & empowering the teachers I support through meaningful professional learning opportunities with an emphasis on facilitating instructional rounds and coaching. #leadupchat
A:1 My # 1 strategy is to spend time with individual teachers and admin discussing their work one-on-one. They appreciate having specific, personal interactions with an administrator who cares deeply about teaching and learning in their classroom. #leadupchat
A1: I’m at a new school teaching ELA for the first time. I want to leverage ingenuity in planning. My school supports it and so I feel supported in being intentional about being prepared and planning lessons that have impact. #leadupchat#mblearn
#leadupchat A1: Leading by example while living out Our Commitments of Respect, Genuine Relationships, and Growth Mindset. I need to do this for all decisions I make whether big or small.
A1: Going back to trust. It's at the heart of Collective Efficacy. We are starting to believe, truly believe, in each other's competence as educators. #Leadupchat
I’m with you! Asking the tough questions with transparency, even though it may cause discomfort. When everyone knows upfront that we must ask the tough questions, it becomes part of the culture. #leadupchat
A1: Transparency. I'm year four with our team, and I truly feel like I can push folks without hesitation. Trust, I feel it from our team. Feel like nothing will hold us back. #leadupchat
A1. Learning. Being a new admin in a new school, I need to learn from the school community the culture, learn from cultivating new relationships, & learn from me, #leadupchat
High leverage leadership strategy? Listening to kids. We often get hung up on programs, operational challenges, etc that we forget our purpose is to serve youth. We need to walk in their shoes and hear from them regularly. #leadupchat
Good Morning #LeadUpChat! John Mattingly, Lead Learner @AdenaElementary. Enjoying my 🍩☕️ from the #DonutTrail. Really excited for the school year as we have launched our first week!
We are doing more with instructional rounds - it's definitely helped our PD team to better define our own learning of effective strategies! #LeadUpChat
A1: Nothing moves without relationships. I'm at a new school in a new position this year, so it's more important than ever to listen and be transparent. Keeping my focus on doing what's best for kids. Providing help for my teachers. #LeadUpChat
LOVE IT! Makes me think of our micro-credentialing journey. I, admittedly, have been a little too top-down for my approach with this with our staff. Need to learn from you how to make a better connection to people's unique passions. #Leadupchat
A1: Personalized PD for staff...focusing on our own passion projects to, in turn, encourage our students to develop and discover their own.
#LeadUpChat
Ted checking in from Santo Domingo. MS AP. A1: We’re working on learning from each other every chance we get. Open doors, break down walls. #leadupchat
Empathy can be a challenge when people are not transparent. It's not like we need to share personal details with the world but if there are cliques, unity becomes tricky. #leadupchat
A1. My big strategy is to create a sense of clear FOCUS and clarity. Make the priorities few and clear so that they can be put into practice, communicated well, and understood! #leadupchat
A1(2): I also want to do a better job of assertively coaching language during collaborations to make sure that all my team members use an empathetic tone and that nobody feels marginalized at the end of the day. #leadupchat
A1: Personalized PD for staff...focusing on our own passion projects to, in turn, encourage our students to develop and discover their own.
#LeadUpChat
A1: Going back to trust. It's at the heart of Collective Efficacy. We are starting to believe, truly believe, in each other's competence as educators. #Leadupchat
A1: With the adults - A strong PLC; in the classroom strong relationships - peer to peer / student to peer as a foundation. Writing as a way to process the thinking going on in the lesson - reflection, summary, quick write to capture the beginning ideas... #LeadUpChat
A1: I’m lucky to work in a school with a very healthy culture and exceptional teachers. Maintaining this is a key to our success. They need to know I Cate for them as professionals and people as we push forward in our new initiatives. #leadupchat
Something else I want to keep central this upcoming year; Kim Scott’s “Radical Candor.” How do I allow my team to be radically candid with me? #LeadUpChat
A1. My big strategy is to create a sense of clear FOCUS and clarity. Make the priorities few and clear so that they can be put into practice, communicated well, and understood! #leadupchat
A1: building trust is most important. I’m starting at a new school so before going in and changing everything, it’s important to build a positive rapport and gain a good understanding of the school climate #leadupchat
A2: I'm trying to stop creating agendas in isolation! Instead, I'm looking for ways to create shared agendas to meet the needs of the team! #leadupchat
A1: We kicked off the year with staff, 24 being new to our school, with a video documenting the transformation that our school has taken over the summer. We have rebranded and re-energized as we are ONE family with one mission about OUR kids. #TeamAdena🔵 #LeadUpChat
A2 I am going to encourage all of our staff to stop worrying and spending so much time on things we cannot control. Putting more energy into the things we can control will move us forward. #leadupchat
A1: Personalized PD for staff...focusing on our own passion projects to, in turn, encourage our students to develop and discover their own.
#LeadUpChat
A2. I will stop the "Do you have a minute convos?" and make myself follow through on what is on my calendar. I'm going to try to find the value in every minute #leadupchat
A1: we just finished a week long teacher institute with “theory” in the morning (the why) and practice in the afternoon (the what)! Over 800 teachers learned from their peers #leadupchat
A2. I plan to stop trying to commit to every opportunity that is out there. I need to focus on only that which I can complete with fidelity #leadupchat
A2: Lead by email!!! I'm strategically building in two short buffer spaces for email and phone calls during the day. Outside of that, I'm disconnecting and focusing on people and projects. #12WeekYear#leadupchat
A2. This year I will stop selecting the books we focus on my only using my own perceptions and instead use the results of the poll to guide our learning. #LeadUpChat
A1: Personalized PD for staff...focusing on our own passion projects to, in turn, encourage our students to develop and discover their own.
#LeadUpChat
A2. I plan to stop trying to commit to every opportunity that is out there. I need to focus on only that which I can complete with fidelity #leadupchat
A2: We have scaled back our after/before school meetings. We got in the rut of “meeting for the sake of meeting” and it was causing teacher burnout. I am being mindful of that this year, and intend on using teacher time more effectively and efficiently. #LeadUpChat
The “Not To Do” list: Answering e-mails and texts the moment they come in. Announcements in staff meetings. Grading homework!
#leadupchathttps://t.co/A0hSz6XYfB
A2 Leaders should stop spending hours behind their computers word-smithing feedback for teachers. Timelines and usability of feedback is waaaaaay more worthwhile than 5 phew of EDU-speak. #leadupchat
As leaders we need to learn to leverage people's potential as we develop them and our culture for student outcomes. We tend to turn to tools and leverage those before people. #LeadUpChat#edchat
A2: One of the biggest things is to SLOW DOWN! I need to remain focused on only three Wildly Important Goals (thank you @seancovey!) and not get distracted by shiny objects that spread me too thin to be effective at anything!!
#LeadUpChat
I teach admins about the “dele-GATOR” and the difference between being the Delegator and being a dump truck. Don’t be a dumper, be a gator! #leadupchat
A2: I changed schools so I have already stopped feeling like a failure in the profession. I’m focused on being an agent of change for students and staff. #leadupchat
A2: At the end of last year I stopped having my email tab open all day. Instead I’ve scheduled specific 30 min windows to check throughout the day. This allows me to focus on deep work, being available for teachers and connecting with kids. #leadupchat
This! Designating time to answer emails and calls is hard to do because we often give up this time to get other things done, but it just adds to the list of tasks in the long run. #leadupchat
If we aren't learning together or making BIG decisions together, DON'T MEET! Or if we have to meet with the sake of meeting go DO SOMETHING together! Appetizers, bowling, coffee shop. #leadupchat
A2: We have scaled back our after/before school meetings. We got in the rut of “meeting for the sake of meeting” and it was causing teacher burnout. I am being mindful of that this year, and intend on using teacher time more effectively and efficiently. #LeadUpChat
A2: STOP comparing myself to others. Connect to my purpose and appreciate those abilities that will help me achieve MY purpose--recognizing that others may take a different course--and that's ok. #leadupchat
A2: I am going to stop trying to insert my voice in every decision and set fewer goals for myself. Others can’t grow if I don’t let them lead. #leadupchat
Mi confianza puesta está,
En la voz de mi Pastor.
Sé que nunca tardará,
La promesa de mi Dios.
Mi confianza puesta está,
En la voz de mi Pastor.
Sé que nunca fallará,
La palabra que mi Padre nos dejó
As we head into another school year, it is important that all students get the help and support they need to be successful. Have questions about following the “Say Dyslexia” law? Check out this FAQ for answers and important information : https://t.co/3F5yB0DN4n
A2 I am going to encourage all of our staff to stop worrying and spending so much time on things we cannot control. Putting more energy into the things we can control will move us forward. #leadupchat
Focus on the negative... it’ll always be there. I want to really take time to switch the lens with students, staff and families. #leadupchat#focusonthegood
A2 I will stop being distracted by all the "shiny new" things! And stay focused on what I know to be true, based on research/data/experience, and what I do best. I will complementary partner with those who do the rest better than me. #LeadUpChat
A2: I have to stop saying ‘yes’ to every opportunity that comes up. I tend to overhaul myself because I want to be involved in so much. It is okay to say ‘no’ sometimes. #leadupchat
A1: Personalized PD for staff...focusing on our own passion projects to, in turn, encourage our students to develop and discover their own.
#LeadUpChat
Brilliant! We need to stop sending the message the 30-second responses to 30mails is “good customer service” - it actually interrupts our thinking and focus. #leadupchathttps://t.co/A0hSz6XYfB
A2: I can't think of any STOPS. I think being more disciplined about using email and electronic communication windows instead of those turning into full day activities. #LeadUpChat
The tools (data, assessments, technology, instructional strategies) are only effective in the context of relationships. Grow our people and they will grow our kids. #LeadUpChat
Answers are dead ends, and they don't last forever.
Great Questions...
--Lead to more questions.
--Press into the future.
--Bring vision into reality.
#LeadUpChat
A2: I’m going to stop focusing on minutiae (like checking lesson plans every day for each teacher- ugh), and focus on being in classrooms with kids and teachers during those times instead. Micro-managing awesome teachers gets them nowhere but out the door. #leadupchat
So I’m your teacher perspective for this morning! 😂 A2 MEETINGS for the sake of meeting! Our new admin respects our time & has sent videos for us to view. THANK YOU! #LeadUpChat
A2: I am going to stop trying to insert my voice in every decision and set fewer goals for myself. Others can’t grow if I don’t let them lead. #leadupchat
Courtesy the #12WeekYear (book) I've built in two hours of time during the week to focus on projects. For me, it's staff wellness and micro-credentialing. I've created action steps to track and score. Email me and let's talk more. perickson@usd313.org #leadupchat
A1: Personalized PD for staff...focusing on our own passion projects to, in turn, encourage our students to develop and discover their own.
#LeadUpChat
A2: I haven’t yet identified what I will stop doing but I know how important it is to think about this. Loving the suggestions I’m seeing here. #leadupchat
A2: Stop spreading myself thin. From day 1, set up for protocol for Ss , colleagues and community &communication( emergency vs urgency vs it can wait). If a clear protocol is set, there are reasonable expectations of us.wait time is important for responses as well. #leadupchat
A2: We will be shifting data meetings as we knew them. Rather than meeting to discuss what everyone can see, we will do better at planning the action steps and equipping Ts with the tools needed to make progress. #leadupchat
A2: Stop listening to negativity. Although I most definitely want to build communication with staff and parents, I need to have a kind way to say "enough" because complaining isn't productive. I want to build up not enable tearing down. #LeadUpChat
A1: I’m lucky to work in a school with a very healthy culture and exceptional teachers. Maintaining this is a key to our success. They need to know I care for them as professionals and people as we push forward in our new initiatives. #leadupchat
Always willing and eager to work with the man!
I found that not every teacher is ready for full autonomy...having teacher-leaders head up small cohorts of innovative practices was just as effective!
#LeadUpChat
#LeadUpChat
Early theme noted...
1. We are suffering from task overload, saying YES too much.
2. Buffering out negativity is hard.
#leadupchat how we can help our teammates here with this?
A2: my goal is to really try to not get bogged down in my office this year. I attended a PL session last week where the presenter talked about checking email at 830 and then again at 330 - thought it was a great idea to get me out and about! #leadupchat
What I love most about IRs is that everyone is the seat of a learner! The instructuonal rounds I facilitated last year were among the most impactful professional learning experiences of all, for myself and the teachers who observed & the ones we visited too! #leadupchat
Such a good practice! And I have started using my calendar as my to-do list. As I go through my emails, if an email requires action, I create a calendar appointment and save that email in the appointment to address during that window of time. #leadupchat
A2 Saying yes to everything under the sun that drains rather than allowing me to give my best in areas necessary. Will always be deeply dedicated to edu, but have learned many lessons in this area. #LeadUpChat
...and here's the creds for one of many amazing resources:
Educational Leadership (Vol. 70/1) “Feedback for Learning” at https://t.co/k71wEtrwfG.
#leadupchat@ASCD
A2 I've been giving up control to Ts - letting them make decisions & take the lead. Will continue to go further with this - giving up control feels like a never ending continuum #leadupchat
A3: Think, but don't think too hard. Your instinct is probably better than you think it is. Consult others, but don't feel bad if you don't consult the entire community for each and every decision. Consider the effects of your decision on students, families, staff... #leadupchat
The best evidence of student success cannot be last year’s test scores. It must be yesterday’s formative assessments.
#leadupchathttps://t.co/A0hSz6XYfB
A3: Ask teachers to reflect and provide recommendations. Seek input from educators on Voxer - multiple perspectives. Research-Based Decision-Making. Do the right thing. #leadupchat
This is great! For me, I struggle with "But, that's the way we've always done it" - that's why I like asking people from the "outside" for feedback #leadupchat
A2: Trying to stop thinking balance is 50/50 bc it’s not. Stop putting off two things I need: sleep and exercise. It’s a work in progress. :) #LeadUpChat
A2: I will TALK LESS about innovation and DO MORE to unlock systems of oppression
(i.e., racism, classism, poverty, misogyny, patriarchy, homophobia, white supremacy...)
#LeadUpChat
A2: I will stop catering to our more challenging & design for our best & innovating. My goal will be to pull everyone up to a standard that all kids deserve. #leadupchat
On “{evidence of impact” beware of drowning in data. We need a very few pieces of evidence that give us actionable results - who needs intervention? Who needs enrichment?
#leadupchathttps://t.co/A0hSz6XYfB
A3. Ah, if only I had a nickel for every difficult decision I made being a principal for 26 years!
When reflecting and placing students first, the decisions were easier. #LeadUpChat
A3: What’s best for kids, first and foremost. But it doesn’t stop there. We need to be intentional with following up and monitoring these decisions to make sure our impact is helping our students grow and learn. #leadupchat
A3 good team to bounce ideas off of-effective leadership can't exist in a vacuum. You need to have multiple viewpoints & ideas even when they differ from yours #leadupchat
A1 In a "concrete example" of building relationships, I am meeting individually with 80+ staff members at the start the year. We're talking a little school stuff and a lot of life stuff. #LeadUpChat
A2. There are things we must do, and things we choose to do. From the things we choose, they either speak life into us or drain life out. I stopped doing the things that drain life out. #leadupchat
A3 Listening to staff, students, parents is the best source of evidence. Being out in classrooms, hallways, playgrounds and observing is the next best thing. #leadupchat
A3 I shy away from/skeptical of "lists" or unpredictable/unproven standards. I look for evidence-based strategies for creating thriving cultures that predict measurable outcomes. "If we do "this"..."this" should happen...and we will prove it by measuring "this". #LeadUpChat
A3: Retaining teachers. If you don’t treat your people well, they leave. It is simple. People want to believe in something and know they are working for the greater good. #leadupchat
A3: Of course, evidence of student learning is paramount. In addition, how about the stories staff are sharing related to Change X and Change Y. Are people excited? Are people feeling pushed? Are people trusting others more? #leadupchat
Evidence must guide the question: “If we want better results than last year, then how will this year be different in schedule, instruction, and leadership?"
#leadupchathttps://t.co/A0hSz6XYfB
Agreed. It's important that they feel heard and are redirected. My concern is allowing it to become a time-suck. I think @LaneWalker2 is right, it may come down to strategic questioning to get at the root of the issue without becoming a spiral of misery. #leadupchat
In reply to
@KellyKastner, @mjjohnson1216, @LaneWalker2
A3: I usually investigate the ethical decision making model. Which VALUES am I centering? I’m also thinking about WHO am I centering in my decisions and WHAT am I teaching others about in the decisions I make. #LeadUpChat
A3: actively seek out feedback from all stakeholders - and not the same sources over and over. We often sit back and wait for feedback so it’s often from the same people - need to ensure we are getting a wide variety of feedback #leadupchat
A3: As a group, looking at common formative assessments and determining who may be the teacher with the greatest strength in that particular area. Teachers who can be transparent with strengths and when they need support will collectively boost student achievement. #leadupchat
A3: students and staff. Having open and honest relationships has definitely given me more insight than anything. There is always more to know beyond the quantitative data #leadupchat
A3: I try to use this when I am speaking. "Speaking consciously is evaluated by the q: Are my words kind, necessary, and for the highest good of everyone involved?" Are we educating consciously? Is this allowing for Ss to grow in their thinking?helpful to their #SEL? #leadupchat
A3: Determining what success looks like before hand and then celebrating and learning when it happens is key and since failures go viral, you need to overwhelm the discussion with examples of success. #leadupchat
A3 When our admin hits us with “change”, if it is well supported, thought through and has been shown that all stakeholders will benefit...BRING IT ON! #LeadUpChat
I also understand that by doing nothing, I am making a decision that impacts people, and is centering certain folx as opposed to others. Whose comfort am I focused on? #leadupchat
A2. I don’t think often enough about what I need to stop. Thanks @DouglasReeves for making me think more about this. I find myself constantly thinking about what else I need to do. That’s something I definitely need to improve. #leadupchat
A3: Retaining teachers. If you don’t treat your people well, they leave. It is simple. People want to believe in something and know they are working for the greater good. #leadupchat
YES! The time I take to talk with staff & goal set for the year-one on one - is invaluable & most of the time it's way more "not school stuff" time Personal goals are just as powerful as professional #leadupchat
We are openly talking through CORE BELIEFS this year. Knowing these of our teammates helps know where they are coming from when they eagerly gobble up change or resist it. #leadupchat
A3: I usually investigate the ethical decision making model. Which VALUES am I centering? I’m also thinking about WHO am I centering in my decisions and WHAT am I teaching others about in the decisions I make. #LeadUpChat
A3: Retaining teachers. If you don’t treat your people well, they leave. It is simple. People want to believe in something and know they are working for the greater good. #leadupchat
A3: Make sure tough decisions are based on observations and evidence that get you in line with the vision created by everyone. A tough decision made out of reaction/reflex is rarely thought through entirely. #leadupchat
The most passionate conflicts arise because of values differences. “Respecting autonomy” vs “do no harm” are big ones in the education world. #leadupchat
A2: Less meetings without a clear agenda. I am going to challenge myself to see if our meetings can be shorter with a clearer purpose. I am going to try meetings with individuals where we walk and talk, instead of sitting in my office. #LeadUpChat
A3: A decision is difficult when it requires asking others to change their practice. My evidence for asking others to change their practice must be rooted in impact. How do we know that this will have a greater impact on teaching and learning? #leadupchat
A3: I challenged my students to be curious, to create, to connect, and to communicate. Decisions will be about what’s best for them and if we achieve these goals. #leadupchat
By and large we do not suffer for resources to inform decision making in schools. We often suffer from "what to do" with the info and "how to" effectively implement. Great school leaders have a process for diagnosis and a prescription.
#LeadUpChat
#leadupchathttps://t.co/A0hSz6XYfB
AMEN! And leaders should consider “mutually exclusive decision alternatives” so that they always have a choice to make the best call.
A3: student guided, with teacher support, and research to back it up. What’s best for the kids, what are strengths of the teachers, and how do we know this works? #leadupchat
A3 Student voice, levels of engagement and true empowerment. Use learner surveys monthly to gain insight. If we aren’t seeing kids captivated in their learning and creating opportunities for themselves, time to rethink what we’re doing. #LeadUpChat#LEAPeffect
I love this, but would argue - my school definitely does not have adequate resources, but by strengthening the other areas, we creatively work around that problem. My Ts are amazing in their ability to think outside the box & find solutions #leadupchat
That's good stuff right there. We can't respect autonomy when it is centered on a lack of professional hunger. It's respect when we push you do be better than your present you. That's what coaching is all about. Getting you to go somewhere you can't go alone. #leadupchat
The most passionate conflicts arise because of values differences. “Respecting autonomy” vs “do no harm” are big ones in the education world. #leadupchat
A3. Student surveys!! Ask KIDS what they think and feel and experience. There are many great surveys out there, including Tripod’s Student Perception of Teacher Effectiveness Survey which allow kids of all ages to share useful feedback. #leadupchat
A3: Love the mixed-methods evidence for this... I lean on teacher/student/parent feedback as well as assessment and instructional data gathered from CFAs, benchmarks, and our summative (🙄) STAAR assessments. All considered in combination, not isolation. #leadupchat
A3: Our best resource are our students- let their voices be heard. Our work is always student-centered. And a great leadership team, consisting of all peeps at every level in our building, needs to be empowered. #leadupchat
A3 Student voice, levels of engagement and true empowerment. Use learner surveys monthly to gain insight. If we aren’t seeing kids captivated in their learning and creating opportunities for themselves, time to rethink what we’re doing. #LeadUpChat#LEAPeffect
From our many conversations, you know that I also suffer from SYS, Say Yes Syndrome. As you know, I'm working on being more selective in what I say yes to. ; ) #leadupchat
A3 My best source is my school leader partner. I will never pretend to know their district, students, staff, the community better than they do. I have expertise in specific areas. They are the expert in their district. Together we make a good team. #LeadUpChat
To build credibility, consider establishing a rhythm of “Promises made . . . promises kept” at the start of every meeting.
#leadupchathttps://t.co/A0hSz6XYfB
#leadupchat Bring in ALL stakeholders to get perspective and ideas. Consult other leaders who are ahead of you in the process for advice. #teamworkmakesthedreamwork
A3: In order to measure effectiveness, we have to have a clear objective and be intentionally gathering evidence to know if we are meeting our objective. No one benefits from using their energy doing things that don't work. Save your energy for things that matter! #LeadUpChat
The best evidence of student success cannot be last year’s test scores. It must be yesterday’s formative assessments.
#leadupchathttps://t.co/A0hSz6XYfB
A4 As a partner consultant the best way to build trust with school leaders is to deliver on what I promise and honor who they are and what they know. #LeadUpChat
#LeadUpChat just a quick poll of the admin sharing this morning, “Who has read the book, MOVE YOUR BUS, by Ron Clark?” I’ll attach a pick on the next tweet.
A4: Core Beliefs. I'll ask others for theirs, record them and refer to them as we talk through change. I'll also openly share mine. Also, I want to DELIVER more for our team. That might be my #OneWord2018-2019 #leadupchat
A4: Taking the time to write hand-written notes for birthdays, noticing jobs well done, new teachers, etc. Those seems to be a great way to build a relationship since they take just a little extra effort and can be easily saved. #LeadUpChat
A3 When making decisions in schools we should always ask ourselves, “Are we doing this for adults or kids?” If making decisions for adults at the expense of kids, we are doing it wrong. #leadupchat
The important piece is that you are aware & are creating solutions regardless of limitations. Our most powerful resources are people. One may have limited funds but infinite ability to coach & grow Ts concerning interventions/growth that require little to no money. #LeadUpChat
A4 I hope to have my mouth closed more and my ears open. Building a buffer between the staff and the multiple things coming at us from the SD. They need to know they can count on me to have their backs and best interests at the forefront. #leadupchat
I use Google Forms, and as the year goes you can have more candid conversations. Definitely requires a supportive culture of risk taking, rich with relationships. #leadupchat

I just started working through Onward by @artofcoaching1 as a way to promote teacher resilience and retention. I would recommend checking it out! It is broken into a different theme for each month and give a structure to promoting self-care. It is good for me too! #LeadUpChat
A4: I think demonstrating openness and vulnerability will go a long way to establishing trust. If I was our staff to take chances - I need to be willing to do the same, and showing them that it’s ok if our ideas fall flat sometimes! #leadupchat
A4: Empower. Do all that I can to create an environment where others can cultivate their own autonomy and agency. Actively listen. True dialogue builds genuine trust. #leadupchat
A4: Honest and open communication about decision-making and jumping in to help with any and all tasks that need to be done to keep our school running. Every job is important. #leadupchat
Risk taking is the key to creativity and progress - and we must challenge our colleagues to consider ways that they punish risk-taking (like using the average to calculate grades).
#leadupchathttps://t.co/A0hSz6XYfB
A3: A/B Testing using sensitive data sources...typically lead data rather than lag.
Hands-down.
Best source.

A4: Be honest. Say what I believe. Listen to ALL perspectives. Don't judge. And above all else DO WHAT I SAY I'M GOING TO DO! It has to be more than words...daily actions count! #LeadUpChat
A3 Keeping a close eye on the climate & culture of the school. Are Ts and Ss motivated, engaged, and actively learning? Climate drives our work and decisions #leadupchat
A4: I will model the learning habits we expect from all stakeholders. I will productively struggle with our team as we collaborate. I will embrace the mantra: #We>Me. #LeadUpChat
I have been contemplating this too. How did you communicate out this to other stakeholders (district office, families, staff)? Did you get pushback? #leadupchat
I just started working through Onward by @artofcoaching1 as a way to promote teacher resilience and retention. I would recommend checking it out! It is broken into a different theme for each month and give a structure to promoting self-care. It is good for me too! #LeadUpChat
When we started our school we built in Friday PD by ending the school day at 12:00. Ts stay until 2:30 for ind. PD. You're right - it's free but invaluable. #leadupchat
A4: I appreciate @RobinsonViviane approach for building trust. "We build trust by tackling the tough stuff together." I will build trust with my team and others by being seen as a leader who values the collaboration required to tackle tough stuff. #leadupchat
A4: I think the biggest is transparency. You must be clear and honest in your whys. Transparency breeds trust which is the foundation. Without trust nothing else matters. However the following article outlines 5 crucial ways to build it: https://t.co/XHSao6onef#leadupchat
A4: I think demonstrating openness and vulnerability will go a long way to establishing trust. If I was our staff to take chances - I need to be willing to do the same, and showing them that it’s ok if our ideas fall flat sometimes! #leadupchat
Want to build trust with colleagues? Be transparent in your communication. Transparency builds trust. Trust leads to social capital. Social capital is the “currency” needed to help a school/district iterate & evolve! #leadupchat
A4: These have always worked for me...
1) Always do what you say you’re going to do.
2) Solicit regular feedback and make change with it.
3) Never ask someone to do something you wouldn’t do.
4) Explain your descions and never be afraid to say you’re sorry. #leadupchat
A4: Great reflective question. I shared with staff that my personal development goal this school year is to be more intentional in my conversations & not back out of them to run to next problem to solve or fire to put out. Stay in the moment. Everyone feels valued. #LeadUpChat
A4 Being vulnerable and sharing my struggles and seeking help to develop shared ownership. Taking time to listen and validate, collaboratively work toward solutions and connect over interests in and out of edu. #leadupchat
Leaders when considering levers for development...
The best strategies are free.
The best relationship builders are free.
The highest cost for any lasting change is time, not dollars.
#LeadUpChat
A4) Credibility is built when the wall between leaders and stakeholders is chiseled away. Be transparent. Share widely. Admit/acknowledge challenges and engage folks in solutions. And of course, Stay the course and follow through! #leadupchat
A4: I always found gratitudeworks. Each year I would bring in a masseuse and me and my team would cover classes while teachers and Paras went for a massage! Also brought food trucks sporadically to feed ‘Em!#leadupchat
A4: Taking the time to write hand-written notes for birthdays, noticing jobs well done, new teachers, etc. Those seems to be a great way to build a relationship since they take just a little extra effort and can be easily saved. #LeadUpChat
a4 Being informed. I trust my district leadership because I read ASCD, EdWk & Twitter ed... When my dist does something I understand why & can advocate from the trenches #leadupchat
A3: When examining tasks, converse with Ts about: a. Who is doing the work of learning?
b. What are students doing?
c. What is the level of rigor?
d. Does the task elicit or deepen student thinking? How? These ?s come from @tchscience@vupeabody#leadupchat
Knowing the “how” and the “why” are important - especially when decisions are backed by sound research. But knowing who are students are and where they come from is critical, too. #Leadupchat
A4: I verbalized to each team that I trust them to do what is best for kids, that they have the autonomy to make changes that will positively impact student success, and that I will hold them accountable for doing so #LeadUpChat
Our campus participated in a “Restorative Practices” workshop... check it out admin!!!Amazing... and would build faculty as well!! @TEXRPE2E#LeadUpChat
A4: I will seek first to understand before I seek to change. I will focus on knowing my teachers before I jump into growing them. I will go into every classroom and find at least one positive thing to identify and celebrate 🎉 #leadupchat
A5 I will try to have more 1:1 conversations where I can listen to staff to better empathize to their needs; also will do PLC reflective practices and instructional too thru padlet, google docs or flip grid . #leadupchat
A4: I think demonstrating openness and vulnerability will go a long way to establishing trust. If I was our staff to take chances - I need to be willing to do the same, and showing them that it’s ok if our ideas fall flat sometimes! #leadupchat
A5: two ways I am working on receiving feedback this year - asking for it through simple response questionnaires, & using collaborative agendas w/ feedback q’s on them. #leadupchat
Build trust with colleagues by investing in healthy & positive relationships rooted in respect. Get to know the people you work with... who are they outside of the classroom; what matters most to them; what’s their why? It’s all about relationships! #leadupchat
Feedback - if you observe a teacher this year, please do not let the day end without face to face feedback - no e-mails, no formal reports weeks later.
#leadupchathttps://t.co/A0hSz6XYfB
A4: 1 of the most imp. things is to be consistent in checking-in w/ each&every staff person on our team. Communicating honestly&openly. Nurturing #Relationships to build that trust. Knowing, acknowledging, & appreciating each person's challenges, strengths, & work.
#LeadUpChat
A4 (cont'd): #Relationships are often more fragile than we want to believe. It takes a lot of work - work that does not end - to tend to them. Relationships ebb and flow. We want our team to stay strong, valued, & willing to share those #HardConversations when needed.
#LeadUpChat
A4: I will seek first to understand before I seek to change. I will focus on knowing my teachers before I jump into growing them. I will go into every classroom and find at least one positive thing to identify and celebrate 🎉 #leadupchat
A5 I have improved in this area for sure, but I still struggle with not getting my back up against the wall when criticized. I hope to continue to work on listening first and reacting later after taking the necessary time to think. #leadupchat
The best evidence of student success cannot be last year’s test scores. It must be yesterday’s formative assessments.
#leadupchathttps://t.co/A0hSz6XYfB
A5: If it's critical feedback, I plan on pulling a @casas_jimmy and asking, "It's important that I improve, grow and serve our school better. What can you invest in me so that I can learn and grow in this area?" We need more than advice. We need collaborative action. #Leadupchat
A5: sounds simple enough, but keeping an open mind to feedback is critical. When we get feedback, it’s easy to feel like someone is implying that we aren’t doing a good job. If we can remember that we can always do better, that feedback will be better received ! #leadupchat
A5: I’m going to create an #ObserveMe QR code for teachers with 2 goals for the year to hang outside my office, and solicit their feedback (anonymously if they’d like) towards my goals #leadupchat
A5) When people see that feedback is acted upon, they will be more likely to give it. So be transparent when changes made are inspired by feedback you received - not in a braggy, self-congratulatory way, but in a way that shows openness. #leadupchat
A4: Follow through with what I say I will do - and say YES to commitments I can REALLY commit too. Realizing NO doesn’t not mean, “I don’t like/care/want to help you.” It just means I cannot commit to it fully. @ghsfrench154 has coached me to this! #leadupchat
A5. No one is going to tell you what you really need to hear without trust. Focusing on strengthening trust in hopes of receiving honest, authentic feedback #Leadupchat
A5: I have always used semester surveys and share outs during collabs, but this year I want to have more one on ones with my team members and to encourage constructive criticism. I will definitively be playing devil’s advocate publicly with myself this year to model. #leadupchat
Take feedback with the professional mind, not the personal heart. Tough task when you lead with a passionate heart.
But a good critique *IS* professional, not personal. So, use it. Grow.
#leadupchat
A5 Creating a feedback culture is so important in any workplace. I use both formal and informal feedback. Providing a written source after a seminar, event. I started writing in follow up/check-in calls/meetings with my school partners. #LeadUpChat
Q5 Very true, but even more important is listening to feedback. My Ss write to me after test over a unit about “likes, not my favorites” & other things, but if they complain they must have a solution or plan for change. 8th graders are something special! ❤️#LeadUpChat
Surveys can become so superficial and take so much time to analyze, report back to the team, etc. I'm with you. Break it down on a personal level. "Am I hitting a home run for you as a leader or striking out?" Get in the batter's box and take a cut! #leadupchat
A5: I have always used semester surveys and share outs during collabs, but this year I want to have more one on ones with my team members and to encourage constructive criticism. I will definitively be playing devil’s advocate publicly with myself this year to model. #leadupchat
A5: An art &science. I read this book a few years ago and have it on audible to remind me of the language. Using it with my department this year and my collab Ts. Be open to seeking feedback that alone allows u 2 b better @ receiving it. https://t.co/3s9NUUGPCo#leadupchat
You may be familiar with it, but @BreneBrown work and research around guilt, shame, and the courage of vulnerability has been instrumental for me. #leadupchat#daringgreatly
A5: I’ve asked for feedback with anonymous google forms before but I think it’s better to have ongoing immediate feedback. So I’m planning to “borrow” from @bethhill2829 this year. Great idea! #leadupchat

A5: I’m going to create an #ObserveMe QR code for teachers with 2 goals for the year to hang outside my office, and solicit their feedback (anonymously if they’d like) towards my goals #leadupchat
A5: This is a huge area of growth for me. I’ll be honest, I’m not good at this. Even a friendly suggestion sends me into a spiral of self admonishment. My supervisors are very skilled at delivering feedback and that is helping. #leadupchat
A5: I take constructive feedback well. Sometimes it is hard to hear but confirms areas where I am working on myself. Had a faculty member embark on a personal attack of me once in the name of feedback. I did not heed that well.
#leadupchat
A4: Since I am new to the building, constant attention to relationships and follow through is a must! I keep thinking, "Connect and commit" #leadupchat
I live in a small town without a ton of traffic. This is doable! HA! Cool idea! Or if you're mulling over something on the drive home, pull over and write about it! #leadupchat

Any feedback I receive I view as an opportunity; an opportunity to inform a blind spot; an opportunity to enhance my craft; or an opportunity to learn. Feedback is an opportunity to think, reflect & grow! #leadupchat
I am currentlywriting my first education book all with stories from each level I have worked in education. It really is case studies as a way to reflect and grow from “bad” situations. I am constantly learning. #leadupchat
A5: This comes back again to relationships. If you want meaningful feedback you need to first establish a culture in which you are approachable, you value dialogue, and you show that you grow and learn. You then have to ask and truly be open to listening. #leadupchat
A5; This is an ongoing issue. We want people to be authentic and honest so anonymous is usually used but relationships and open conversations get the deepest feedback. We need to model a respectful learning community and ensure people feel safe being authentic. #leadupchat
A5b. I used the “stoplight” analogy year with staff when asking for feedback. Green- continue doing; yellow-consider doing; red-stop doing. Most gave written feedback with some giving f2f. #leadupchat
You may be familiar with it, but @BreneBrown work and research around guilt, shame, and the courage of vulnerability has been instrumental for me. #leadupchat#daringgreatly
A5 I find that if I respond instantly to feedback, I can be defensive. Better to take notes, give myself time to think & then respond. Gives me time to be objective & take my ego out of the equation #leadupchat
Awww I’m honored! This helped me a lot because I received feedback from families and community by posting it on our social media sites. It is a way for others to have a voice, and not just click answers to a survey. #leadupchat
A5: I’ve asked for feedback with anonymous google forms before but I think it’s better to have ongoing immediate feedback. So I’m planning to “borrow” from @bethhill2829 this year. Great idea! #leadupchat
Dude, have you been in this chat the whole time? And I'm just now saying HI to you??? Geez. What up, Tony???? I'm on Chapter 3, brother. Getting closer. #dissertation#thanksforhelpingme#leadupchat

As leaders we can help others to build credibility with others by spending some of our own capital. Leaders grow leaders. We unleash something powerful when we are willing to give a platform to emerging leaders. #LeadUpChat#edleadership#edchat
A5: Always start with trust. The technical part is important too but no significant learning & growing happens without a significant relationship (thank you Dr. J.C.!!!). #LeadUpChat
Man, oh, man. @KennedymMelissa is going BIG with this at #BGSlearn with their culture as a Trauma Responsive School. She's a hero to me in this department. Get it, Melissa!!! #leadupchat#313teach
Sustainable professional practices are developed and owned (intellectually, emotionally, and financially) by you and your colleagues.

I think this is difficult to balance as well. There just doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day! Checking “just a few” emails seems to lead to “a few” other things that need to be done. It’s difficult! 🙂 #LeadUpChat
Paul!! What’s up my friend!? So happy to hear your dissertation is coming along - that’s amazing & exciting. Keep moving along & remember, it’ll all be worth it in the end! #LeadUpChat
The conversation cannot stop at back to school meetings. It must be ongoing—in individual and small group conversations, through asking the tough questions, and going back to our core beliefs. #leadupchat
A5) We tend to do very top down appraisals. Before I was in education we employed more of a "360" approach - input from those who supervise you, your peers, and those who report to you. Nothing stops us from doing this "unofficially" in our buildings. #LeadUpChat
A5: I’ve asked for feedback with anonymous google forms before but I think it’s better to have ongoing immediate feedback. So I’m planning to “borrow” from @bethhill2829 this year. Great idea! #leadupchat
A5 You will receive feedback one way or another. Creating a culture where feedback is the norm and "rules" are established makes feedback helpful and productive. Helps to limit the feedback gossip. #LeadUpChat
Q6 AMEN on this one...been in this arena since ‘83 and have seen the pendulum swing! If you want us to implement, please FOLLOW THROUGH and use it, we don’t want another “initiative ” or take something off our plate. #leadupchat
A5: I’ve asked for feedback with anonymous google forms before but I think it’s better to have ongoing immediate feedback. So I’m planning to “borrow” from @bethhill2829 this year. Great idea! #leadupchat
A6: Working hard to make sure humility, professional hunger, and people smart are at the core of what we do as Ideal Team Players. The biggie right now is to relentlessly talk about it, recognize approximation to this expectation. #leadupchat
A6: Don’t count on packaged programs to be sustainable. Instead be sure the why is understood. Share the why loudly and often. Connect every decision back to it. Help others see how their actions contribute to the why. #leadupchat
A6: I think the sustainability of anything we do is vital to ensuring our staff don’t burn out. If the changes we implement won’t survive us leaving, they are likely to cause angst among the staff. Change should be sustainable regardless of who is in the admin seat. #leadupchat
A6: By taking the long view and making sure we focus on tangible actions that align with the principles of good instruction. Our reflection starts with the latter, then dives into the former. Then it becomes what we do, not just what we’re doing. #leadupchat
A6 If these are "your" leadership initiatives with little relationship to school mission and lack collaborative input, then sustainability is the least of your worries. #LeadUpChat
A6: Develop a Plan. Communicate the Plan. Training/Coaching. Implement the Plan. Revise the Plan. Focus on Multiplying New Leaders. Have a Desired Outcome or Benchmark Goals. #LeadUpChat
A6: use focus teams to have the answers build from within the ranks and grow to the answers for the team/building/district. The @srebeducation#hstw focus team handbook has been effective for us. #leadupchat
It's going well! Should be done in August 2019! One more class and all dissertation right now. Hope all is well with you. Appreciate your ongoing support and willingness to share! #leadupchat
Paul!! What’s up my friend!? So happy to hear your dissertation is coming along - that’s amazing & exciting. Keep moving along & remember, it’ll all be worth it in the end! #LeadUpChat
A6: Distributed leadership. Invite others to lead efforts that align to your vision. They may not do it exactly as you would but give them the WHAT and trust them to figure out the HOW. The impact will outlast your presence. #leadupchat#ChaseImpact
A6: Establish them together. Discuss: What are our principles? What are our nonnegotiables? What are our hopes & dreams (now & beyond)? What do we expect from ourselves? What do we expect from each other? You don’t mandate these things; you build them together. #leadupchat
This is such a great point! Feedback is everywhere, always, and is often not wrapped up in a neat box and labeled “feedback.” The parent rolling at you? Hats feedback. The students sent to you all the time? More feedback. Etc. #leadupchat
A6: Once I develop something that works, I write a protocol and give it to my lieutenants to implement with their teams. They refine and personalize, but the essential purpose remains the same. Building capacity is key. My goal is to make it so my teams don’t need me. #leadupchat
Q5 (1): As leaders, we NEED to have #ThickSkin. We also NEED to be open to feedback, especially from those wwith whom we work. If we shut out feedback, ppl sense it & we lose an extremely valuable resource in guiding our work & self-improvement.
#LeadUpChat
Q5 (2): I welcome 1-1 conversations, feedback from evaluation forms, informal feedback in the hallways when I ask staff, "How was today's mtg for you?" Any way I can get that feedback from my team, I will.
#LeadUpChat
Q5 (3): AND one important thing is to be extra mindful of who is NOT offering feedback & making extra efforts to garner feedback from them. I need to think "Why are they not sharing feedback?" Lack of trust? Broken relationship?
#LeadUpChat
Q5 (4): As the "leader" of my team, sharing #PositiveRelationships w/ each&every person where they feel valued, appreciated, heard, & respected is like the "oil in the engine." If it's not there, the car will die. With it, everything runs smoother. I NEED that #TRUST.
#LeadUpChat
A6: The leader sets the tone - not compliance but community. Noticing changes In jargon and continual practices are evidence of permanency. #leadupchat
A6: we need to ensure that ideas and initiatives are shared endeavours with all of our stakeholders. No one person can or should do it all. #Leadupchat
A6. As a principal of 26 years who would begin an initiative only to watch it falter and fail years after I moved to a new school, I strongly encourage the goals to come from your education team. The team remains long after admin might move on. #LeadUpChat
A6: One way I keep my cadence for kids is to focus on exercise goals that help me stay healthy. This way I hold myself accountable to the same kind of growth mindset I expect for my kiddos. I fail, get up, and try again. I model this. #LeadUpChat
A6. I think the key to sustainability is to focus on practices and people, not programs. If success becomes essentially tied to the people and their practices, it should continue whether you are their leader or not. #leadupchat
A6: Don't ever say "my" "I" "me" when talking about initiatives. It MUST be "we" "ours" "us" It should be bigger than the individual. Less ego #leadupchat
I try to do "paperwork" (emails, etc) before school begins & after Ss go home. During the day I try to focus on people (observations, discussions). When I can stick to this, I'm much more effective. #LeadUpChat
A6: District initiatives need to be guided by the District's Vision and Mission and rooted in the Strategic Plan. We is far more powerful than I! #Leadupchat
A6: The 3 E’s: Engage our teacher leadership. Educate each other on goals to be accomplished. Empower our leadership & create ownership. Last is 🔑 to sustainability. #LeadUpChat
A6) Wash, rinse, repeat. Culture isn't built in a day.
Our fidelity to the sustainability of those leadership initiatives has to thread through everything.
You can't just intro it at the beginning of the year and go on autopilot. #LeadUpChat
A6: Sustainability is what lasts, but initiatives come and go, leaders come and go. But what should remain and sustain is what is best for Ss, not PR, not for data analytics... If it's best for Ss then it's part of who we are and what we do #culture#leadupchat
RIGHT! We need to ask each other that. "Our vision is X, how do you OWN it?" Successful ownership of vision takes an emotional plug. Going through the motions of visioning doesn't work! Inspire people! It's what we are supposed to do as leaders! #leadupchat
A6) Nothing breeds cynicism like the introduction of new initiatives in schools. Slow down. Choose wisely. Stick to your big rocks. Follow though. And when introducing new ideas, be sure to connect it to what’s already happening. Nothing is “brand new.” #leadupchat
A6: “if the horse is dead, dismount” kind of thing. But be careful not to jump from horse to horse. @DouglasReeves has multiple great articles on #InitiativeFatigue - stick to your data-driven priorities. #leadupchat
Yes!

A4: Taking the time to write hand-written notes for birthdays, noticing jobs well done, new teachers, etc. Those seems to be a great way to build a relationship since they take just a little extra effort and can be easily saved. #LeadUpChat
A6: Are your initiatives created “of” and “for” the people you serve? Or are they built in isolation to serve ego over people? Only if they’re “of” and “for” those you serve will they last and become part of the culture. Leaders take dreams and give them wings #leadupchat
A5. I’ve been working over a year now on really being deliberate in the way I process feedback, both positive and critical. Essentially my goal is to extract from the feedback the behaviors or action steps I can change, act on them, & then seek additional feedback.🤓 #leadupchat
I like visuals to keep important ideas in the forefront of my mind. I went to Hobby Lobby and purchased the HUGE letters 'W' and 'E' and kept them prominently displayed in my office. Reminded all that WE are stronger together. #LeadUpChat
A6: Don't ever say "my" "I" "me" when talking about initiatives. It MUST be "we" "ours" "us" It should be bigger than the individual. Less ego #leadupchat
Something newer coming down the road; the concept of teaching people about followership. Every leader is ALSO a follower. How we follow teaches people how to do the same #leadupchat
Thank you for being here. I always learn something from your wisdom during each chat. Please know that your efforts this morning (juggling) are appreciated! #LeadUpChat
THANK YOU for joining us and building our collective efficacy around the idea of taking a leadership #mirrorcheck! Hope your year has launched well!!! #leadupchat
