BRUH! I know! The rep before this I stoned the kid. Then he comes back and smokes me. Olin Kreutz replied to it on Instagram and said “I don’t know anyone that’s undefeated.” Lol #hogfbchat
Consider yourself lucky...not many professions in the world where you are called by the name of your profession...Doctor...Your Honor...Mr President...COACH. Best of luck, man! #hogfbchat
Guys, topic tonight is a little to do with last weekend. Please take care of yourselves after having the scare with @CoachDingus we wanna keep you all around for a long long time! #hogfbchat#brotherhood
Q1: Planning time for working out and getting some nutrient dense meals in at the beginning of every week. Off the field planning is just as important as on the field. #HOGFBCHAT
A1: I try to eat semi healthy (low carb) during the week. That coupled with the steps I get in at practice actually helped me drop some lbs over this past season. #hogfbchat
A1- Eat right! Find a plan and stick with it. Prep your meals. Eat more vegetables along with that steak. My doc says, "What you put down your pie hole will either heal you or kill you". #hogfbchat
Well coach what I’ve learned from NFL free agency this year is this: People who are damn good at what there job like yourself get picked up very quickly! Glad i had the opportunity to learn from you #hogfbchat
A1- make time to workout. Eat well with good adult choices. Meal prep... my wife does that for me... so find a good wife lol. Spend time with the family it’s good for your soul and for them #hogfbchat
A2: try to avoid fast food. Run around during practice. Also do push-ups while players condition @ end of every quarter. Got up to 600 this season. 💪 #hogfbchat
A1: I use the school gym as much as possible to lift. I meal prep my lunches and sometimes dinners. I run at least 3 times a week. I usually take one or both kids with me for an added challenge. Haha! #hogfbchat
A1) Drink plenty of water throughout the day especially in the summer months, get enough sleep, jog to every station at practice are a few things I strive to do #Hogfbchat
A1: I try to keep up my morning cardio routine and get a 30 minute lift in at least 3 times a week. It’s hard to find time and energy but I feel so much better after doing it. Meal prep is key too #hogfbchat
A1. I run a lot of sprints with the kids. Like to push my linemen to go harder, and also get some health benefit from it. Keep lifting and stay well hydrated also. #hogfbchat
A1. Lifting multiple times throughout the week. Big thing that’s shown to help is throwing some yoga in there, too. Fewer pulls and tears every year. #HOGFBCHAT
A1: I lost 90 lbs about 9 years ago and have kept up with my health ever since. I meal prep year round. I go to the gym every morning before school.. Meal prep to avoid temptation and work out b4 school everyday, if you wait you will find excuses to miss #hogfbchat
A1: Make sure I workout myself on the weekends! Also I am trying to eat better and get in better shape. gotta set a good example! Another coach on our staff told me if you expect great things from the kids you gotta make yourself great as well! #HOGFBCHAT
A1: I got a wake up call, High Blood Pressure, Sleep Apnea, Acid Reflux, Not eating right. A hospital stay in Memphis will make you change all that... #hogfbchat
I try to continue working out 2-3 days/week with kettlebells (more bang for the buck), keep up with supplements. Most years are good, this past year wasn’t... still fighting crud... #hogfbchat
A1: for me? I’m in bed early every night. 9 PM. I eat really well during the week. I try and get a lift in 3 times a week. For my kids we do preventative lifting and stretching. I have them hydrate all week. I try to ensure that they are eating right. #hogfbchat
Try to get in shape running etc. had multiple foot issues this off season so haven't been able to. Was wanting to train for half marathon but have been set back. Get to the season & try to work in sessions as possible during season. #hogfbchat
Meal prepping and just being conscious of what I’m eating is big. The nature of my job makes it difficult but very important. Also try to get a workout in 2-3x a week #HOGFBCHAT
Workout everyday get up at 415 gym by 445 lift for 2 hours. Meal prep same meal everyday. 4oz baked chicken 5oz broccoli 3 hard boiled eggs. 2 packs of tuna.#HOGFBCHAT
A1) try not to eat too late! Been trying to eat before 7PM and drinking a lot of water. I stay active through out the day walking around my class room, and stay behind after the day and get a work out in. #hogfbchat
A1: I have struggled with my weight and fitness ever since I was done playing. Being at the field helps keep me in shape. During the season I do a ton of water and make sure I get 8 hours of sleep #HogFbChat
A1 try to be intentional about my sleep quality, move and stretch as much as I can during practice, & try not to eat too many Reese's before and during the game. Little or no soda. #hogfbchat
A1: I have cut soda out, watching what I eat and been getting active for 60 minutes a day. Been too complacent. Looking for ideas to eat better during the season! I am all ears coaches! #hogfbchat
A2: not enough I usually put on a few lbs in season.. I usually eat alright but I need to take advantage of my surroundings and hit the gym more #hogfbchat
A1) This season was unlike any other that I’ve ever experienced. For the first time I legitimately struggled to find time for working out, meal prep, meditation, etc. My overall mental & physical health took a huge toll on me. Looking forward to all of your answers! #hogfbchat
A1) spent many years making fun of long distance runners. Now, it’s the best way to sleep and relieve stress during the fall. 3-4 days a week, 1.5-2 miles. Nothing too crazy. Set up a coaches challenge once, fun way to be acccountable. #hogfbchat
A1) Try to work out after practice (the ol Belichick walk and watch film), make sure diet is somewhat regular and try to hit the foam roller every day #hogfbchat
A1 Our PE crew trains 3-4 days a week. @ToddDurkin impact training is a great program and awesome resource to get going. Simple and easy to follow. Obviously nutrition is critical, but during the season make sure you get your sleep. Maximize your time during the day! #HOGFBCHAT
A1) always try and make time to still eat as a family, put my kiddos to bed. I know this probably sounds simplistic but I try really hard to get things down prior to the season that lessons the craziness of things during the season #hogfbchat
A1. I drink water like its going out of style. I also try and get some runs in either in thevearly mornings or at night after the kids go to bed. Also try and get some core lifts in during prep if possible #hogfbchat
A1. I workout before practice. Drink a gallon of water during the day. Running around during practice and return kicks and punts during ST session. Summer-Try and get a mike in around my neighborhood before I head to the field house. #HogFBChat
A1: I started a couple of years ago doing mediation. Just ten minutes a day using the app @Headspace. I was skeptical but it helped me. They have different areas of meditation you can use. #hogfbchat
A1: to be honest not much usually finding time makes it hard find myself eating way to much fast food! Only thing Ihave done in the past is went on a Jucie only diet I lost weight only stayed on it for about four weeks #HOGFBCHAT
A1: Oh man, health and wellness during the season is tough. I'll be honest, I tend to eat my feelings during the season. Bad practice leads to bad eating. Bad games lead to even worse eating. Saturdays? Eat and watch college ball. You get the picture. it's not good. #HOGFBCHAT
A1: Try to eat a healthy lunch and dinner during the week and drink a lot of water. Weekends at the office kill that plan. Newborn last July killed the exercise time, looking to get back in routine this year. #hogfbchat
A1. Really try and get in good shape in offseason, slack a bit in season. I teach elem pe and am moving a lot during the day always on my feet so that keeps me from being too sedintary plus we try and eat healthy at home regardless #hogfbchat
A1) My big hurdle is Friday. I can eat non-stop all day, no joke all day. I don't hydrate, so the next day I am wrecked & could have taken in 7000 cals & slept 2 hours. I eat breakfast, skip lunch, eat about 5, then light after game. Drink water when I check replay. #hogfbchat
A1: Try to eat right (atleast until post game meal with my wife), staying hydrated, lifting and doing abs with the team, make sure I have my sunscreen and bugspray on #HOGFBCHAT
A1: This last season I started walking in the morning before school. I also keep a gallon jug of water. Try to get 1.5 gallons down by bed time. My downfall is how easy it is to swing by and grab fast food after practice. #hogfbchat
A1: Not enogh. I try to focus on hydration throughout the day & not eating after 8p. Last season, I had a weight-loss bet (& won) w/ my OL Coach. Helped keep me in right frame-of-mind. #HOGFBCHAT
A1. Eat plenty of deep fried chicken parts washed down with the necessary mixture of barley, hops, and water. 🍗🍺🍗🍺(Probably not a good night for the opinions of an overweight, middle aged o-line lifer.) #hogfbchat

When you look at the clock on a busy Monday and realize you're missing hog FB Chat!
⬇️ ⬇️ ⬇️
A1 the less you lift during the season the less carbs you need. I Wake up, have a couple cups coffee, A LOT of water, & don't have to eat till lunch #hogfbchat
A1 that's something I definitely need to focus better on. Honestly it's been nonexistent in my first couple years of coaching. After getting really sick this past season, I definitely need to take better care of myself #hogfbchat
A1: Annual physical and blood work done every year. Your insurance pays for it as a teacher...TAKE ADVANTAGE OF IT. Smartest thing a man or coach can do. #hogfbchat
A1: personally, i can’t sleep much during the season anyways so I take advantage of my early mornings before school w/ a quick workout or the very least getting a mile or 2 walk in. Eating is more difficult, meal prep goes a long way to help (when I actually remember!) #hogfbchat
A1. It's been tough. My commute to and from practice has been really demanding and its so easy to just stop at Taco Bell or something. I try to walk, ride the bike, lift when I can. I've also cut my drive from an hour and a half to about 25 minutes with the new school. #hogfbchat
A1: Also been having bouts with anxiety as well. Been grinding too much as well. Our profession takes a ton out of us! But we must adapt as the years go by. #hogfbchat
A1: not good at this, stopped exercising in early Oct because of injury, gained weight, hoping I don’t pay the price right now
Gotta get better at gym in morning b4 work, felt great when I was doing it.
Is coaching worth a shorter life and less time with loved ones?
#hogfbchat
A1. Try to get at least 30 minutes of cardio each day and not eat junk while watching film. Drink lots of water and when needing some caffeine with no sugar I drink Bang Energy. #HOGFBCHAT
A1: I play competitive rugby in the off season, and try to lift MINIMUM of twice a week during season. Also walking the dog regularly. Biggest thing for me is stress and sleep #hogfbchat
A1) I try to condition with the team Jan-aug. I lift with the youngsters, but during the season, There isn’t time. Don’t have time to get the sleep needed or time to workout. It’s not right but 8/12 months is better than nothing #hogfbchat
A1: My wife has done a great job trying to keep me healthier over the last while though. One thing that helps me after a rough practice is grilling dinner. It gives me ten minutes or so of me time before dadding and husbanding again. #HOGFBCHAT
A1 continued: I will also throw this in there: best move I ever made in my coaching career was to quit drinking almost 3 years ago. Better health, better mind, better marriage, better teacher, better coach. #hogfbchat
A2: I started using a macro nutrient counter and I try to enjoy some great tasting foods, but keep it moderate
Also, I start hitting workouts 5 days a week out of season. #HOGFBCHAT
A2: normally do a great job of meal prep, & get back on a workout routine, that has yet to happen this year so far. Have to make it a point, find myself too busy lately in my new role. #hogfbchat
A2: Going to the doctor. Learning to take time for myself. Leaving stuff at the office. Finally being able to be home and not let my mind wander back to the office. Just purchased a heavy bag to work stress out. I am loving it. #HogFBChat
A2: Definitely eating better, trying to get into better shape. Spend time with my wife going to movies and just hanging out. Helps more than people think lol #hogfbchat
Gotta workout multiple times a week. Just to maintain. I haven’t done this in awhile and I feel it. I will be getting back at it soon...hopefully #hogfbchat
A2. Really trying to cut out eating fast food or out at any restaurants for that matter. Also, eating earlier in the night is A LOT easier in the off-season. Big key to controlling hunger in the off-season=minimum 1.5 gallons of h2o per day
#HOGFBCHAT
A2. Changed our school hours and not done till 350 now w kids involved in stuff gotta get up at 6 and hit the gym. Run 2 miles, hit some old man weights and get home in time to take kids to school with my late start time now too. #hogfbchat
A2- need to drop some weight, and increase conditioning. Tough to do, but starting to feel the arthritis in knees/shoulders and I want to be able to move when retired #hogfbchat
A2: Consistent exercise, purchased a hinckley water system for the office to stay hydrated, consistent bedtime for 8 hours asleep and balanced diet! #hogfbchat
A2 - I do a lot of cardio, run, lift, stretching, yoga, diet. I feel our health is important. I have 2 kids under 4, they need me around but more importantly I want to be around for them.
#hogfbchat
A2: Have continued the walking and water. I’ve also started listening/reading a lot of personal development material. A lot of positivity and stress reducing material. Mental health wellness. #hogfbchat
A2: I've really improved my habits this off season. I've been in the weight room actually lifting heavy again, hopping on the elliptical, not eating as much trash, drinking a ton more water, doing yoga. I'm still a fat guy but I'm living a healthier lifestyle. #HOGFBCHAT
A2) both in and out of season, quit drinking alcohol over a year ago. Best thing I’ve EVER done. Lost 75lbs, blood pressure went down to normal, skin cleared up, stopped getting sick all the time, became a better dude. #hogfbchat
A2) Sticking with drinking lots of water and sleep and I’ll also do a few of the exercises with my T&F throwers b/c they’re usually more about core & flexibility and ROM. Of course every now & then I gotta get a few throws in to keep up appearances lol #Hogfbchat
A2: my older brother and I did a push-up challenge last year. I was weight training quite a bit last year. Started to get more into cardio. But then after an insanely crazy summer I stopped and haven’t gotten back on the wagon. #hogfbchat
Workout 4-5 days per week pay attention to the diet. Even on days I don’t lift try and stay active with golf or pick up basketball. Got a check up with the doctor after season to find out what I need to work on (blood pressure, cholesterol, etc) #HOGFBCHAT
A2 I attempt to meal prep but being 24 and broke makes it difficult. HA! But still with the same routine on water and weights. I’ll play some basketball with the players every now and then and I try and run 2 or 3 5K’s during the off season and go for a PR each time. #HogFBChat
Also as far as in season goes, throw on a cage jacket to sweat a little more (if its not already 100 degrees) and sprint to each drill with the players. #HogFBCHAT
A2) Best health strategy I’ve found in 9 short years is th ‘ol “be where your boots are”. Work when it’s work time, play when it’s play time, vacation when it’s vacation time. If I’m teaching, I’m teaching. If I’m dadding, I’m dadding. Build time for all your roles. #hogfbchat
A2: I do pretty much the same things year round. I lift a little harder because i have more time in off season so more overall Volume. I will lift with my weight training class most of off season. Occasionally i get a check up ... usually spring break or early summer #hogfbchat
A1: 1) cardio/HIIT training, 2) 1 or 2 kale/spinach shakes/day, 3) sleep 7 hrs min, 4) meditate 10-to-15 mins/day- quiet the mind. #4 in particular. If you can't 'be in the moment' how can you coach in a game? 1-2-3 if you're not doing these... Memento Mori #hogfbchat
A2: Have also started lifting again. I like to jump in and lift a little with a couple of my classes, have also stayed after track practice to lift with players. #hogfbchat
A2: It’s a lot easier to meal prep out of season for me I try to bring lunch as much as possible.. our team lifts 4 days a week I’m in there most of the day usually stretching/mobility... still could be doing a lot more for myself 🤦🏼♂️ #HogFbChat
A2: I haven’t had a soft drink in 3 weeks. Nothing but pure water. More veggies and lean protein. Got a heart scan for 50 bucks. Best money I have spent. #hogfbchat
A2: trying to meal prep and get back in the gym. Making a ton of excuses though and need to get after it hard before season begins. Need to be a good example on and off the field #HogFbChat
A2. Continue to lift. Started eating better also. The farm work I do has it’s benefits as well. Always make sure I get enough sleep, because when the season starts I won’t. #hogfbchat
A2: When not in season I try to really crack down on my eating habbits even more then in season and spen more time with family and friends! Gotta stay sane! #HOGFBCHAT
A2: I try to do more competition type runs too. 5 and 10k’s. I make sure I drink lots and lots of water. And go to the gym at least 5 days a week. Even for just an hour. And keeping up with monitoring food intake. #hogfbchat
A2) Picked up running after I was done playing. Trained for a 5K last year and doing it again this year. Toughest thing I’ve ever done after playing on the o-line #hogfbchat
A2: Really more of the same. Always try to hit my 10,000 steps for the day goal. Also add more accessory lifts to the main 4 lifts I focus on. My runs also increase I distance and frequency #hogfbchat
A2) Water intake is my key, I guess liquids are my key. Water good, soda bad, I had great success previously with Paleo, this weekend withstanding, gluten free is a biggie for me. #hogfbchat
A2: truthfully I think my workouts in the off season help me to survive the in season. Sleep is never an issue and stress doesn’t bother me too much due to healthy diet and exercise #hogfbchat
A2: Weight loss challenge with friends $100 each winner takes all ends in April #ketoDiet#Cardio Hike, ski, Bike I stay busy but blood pressure is still high #hogfbchat
A2 because of my spinal and hip issues I'm limited on what I can do, but I try and stay active. Taking the dog for long walks. Doing light weight lifting. Honestly it's also something I need to improve on #hogfbchat
A2) This offseason has been disappointing but I’m focusing on myself & revamping my goals. Moving forward, I can’t afford to sacrifice long-term success for short-term gain, especially if it takes away from the people that I love. This year was a huge learning exp. #hogfbchat
A2) Well I always say I’m going to get better at this so I really need to follow through but I try to get in 3 workouts a week. Last season, I tore my meniscus so it’s even more critical to get back in shape. I have cut out soda from my diet and haven’t looked back yet #hogfbchat
A2: See A1 - lifestyle choice. I'm also doing intermittent fasting and upping HIIT training this off season. I'm 55. While I've always stayed in shape - it's no longer optional. Seen to many go b4 their time. Memento Mori - 1 shot. #MakeItLast ⚒️🏋🏽♀️⚒️ #hogfbchat
Putting this in a thread on sleep apnea. If any of you guys have questions feel free to ask here or DM me. Getting diagnosed with this saved my life. It might save one of your players… or YOU. #hogfbchat
A2: I’ve changed my diet this offseason and worked in cardio 3-4 times a week. Going to the doctor is big too. Sucks to go and feels like time wasted, but it helps catch problems before they become life threatening! #hogfbchat
A2: I also get a yearly physical whether I like what they may say or not. I don’t drink sodas so that’s never been a problem. Tobacco free is a big one too #HogFbChat
There are serious complications associated with apnea. Heart Attack. Stroke. Reflux. Diabetes. High blood pressure. Fatigue is a key sign. Waking up unrefreshed. Snoring, although that isn't a given - I don't snore much. Weight gain even when eating right/exercising. #hogfbchat
Headaches. Anxiety. Heart palpitations. Memory issues. Concentration. Waking up to urinate at night. Exercise intolerance. Soreness after workouts. And *ahem* performance issues, both sport and sexy time. #hogfbchat
A1) definitely need to improve in this aspect. As close to 8 hours of sleep, solid breakfast/lunch, elliptical a few days a week. I also try to be physically active at practice. Guys enjoy if I jump in for a rep. High energy. Staff also plays basketball together. #HOGFBCHAT
I would bet all the money in my bank account that about 85% of OL and OL coaches have some degree of it. Big body size and thick neck may be a risk factor, but is not a given; it can be structural issues with your nose and throat. It may also be hereditary. #hogfbchat
My results were shocking. Up until they put the report into my hand, I would have told you I went right to sleep, maybe got up once or twice to use the bathroom, and might roll over some. My report said I had sleep disruptions *30 times every HOUR*. #hogfbchat
A2. I try to stay on an exercise program at least 5 Days a week in addition to running around with my elementary PE kids all day. Eating habits definitely something i need to conquer #hogfbchat
But worse, normal oxygen saturation is 95% or above. Over the course of 3 nights of sleep I was there only *5%* of the time. I honestly have no idea how I functioned coaching in 2016 and probably wouldn't have made it through last year if I'm being honest. #hogfbchat
It gets worse as you get older. I got to where I couldn't remember plays sometimes. I'm exhibit A this stuff is fixable. 3 months of CPAP therapy & I wake up refreshed, can work out like I was younger, can remember things, am interested in guys again, & losing weight. #hogfbchat
It's hard if your doc doesn't know much about it since the symptoms seem unrelated. You can ask your family doc to prescribe a sleep study. I did a home study. They're easy and cost effective. My brother went to a facility to sleep overnight and they ran tests there. #hogfbchat
A lot of insurances prefer the home study. My doc had the kit to lend out. It’s a heart rate chest strap, a finger pulse oximeter & a little nasal cannula. The one I did I wore for 3 nights and took it back to the doc and they sent the chip out to be analyzed. #hogfbchat
My study cost 200. My CPAP cost me 800ish. Your insurance should cover it. There is also a mouthpiece a dentist can make which I tried first but that didn't work for me. If any of you guys have questions ask here or DM me. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A1 I almost completely ignore NFL football. Fantasy football was not healthy for me. Ended it. Helps that my @ChicagoBears have really struggled lately, but even when they're good, I care about my high school team, and what I can control, exclusively.
I want a rower bad. Doesn't have to be concept brand. Just something for no impact cardio on nights that it's cold/raining. Also just to switch things up every now and then #hogfbchat
A2. Lifting, walking, biking, learning the kids new dances. Every time I clean I put on the headphones and groove. Chug water. I think the one that burns the most calories for me is I try to play basketball multiple times a week. Full body workout. #hogfbchat
I’m headed to the gym now (the Mrs. is kickin my butt before the wedding) but I’m stoked to come back to these answers tonight. Self wellness is huge #hogfbchat
A2) focusing on the diet. Still spend time working out five days a week, but focusing on eating as best as I can because I know that’s my biggest struggle in season. Fitbit has been awesome for tracking everything too! #HOGFBCHAT
A2: when I was at my heaviest before I started losing I used DDP yoga to get me going. Nice quick low impact workout that doesn’t require a ton of flexibility or athleticism while you work back in shape #HogFbChat
A3: To a certain extent it does. As a guy who has coached forever in the triple option, we’ve won with smaller, athletic guys. Bigger isn’t always better. But hey, if a 6’6” 270 kid wants to play, I’ll coach him up! #hogfbchat
When it’s done the right way not at all. Too many focus on adding “bulk” and not lean muscle. As a former college OL myself I struggled with losing the weight after playing and struggling now to get it off #HOGFBCHAT
A2: been an unusual off-season for my family b/c my youngest daughter has been in the hospital since early Feb, so mostly tried to stay focused mental health habits, like reading, being grateful, having good communication habits w/ my wife. #HOGFBCHAT
A3) I try and get my o-line to have high intense workouts cardio and weight lifting. At the beginning of the off-season I told them that they needed to hit this off season hard not necessarily for football purpose but for their life style! #hogfbchat
A3: the more and more i see how athletic and fit guys in college and the league are, the easier it is to sell kids that they don't need to be overweight to be an OLinemen. So long story short, no lol.
#hogfbchat
A3) I wouldn’t necessarily say it concerns me but I do think it is becoming very clear that OL require special training b/c of their body types as well as the specific skills they need. @OLineWorld65 does an amazing job of building OL specific training #Hogfbchat
A3: no not really. We dont have too many HUGE kids, when we do playing helps them lose weight. Many will get more into fitness and lose weight as adults. More of our skill guys come back 3-4 years later to visit with more weight gain than OL coming back heavier #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat I don't know that there is continued growth. Guys like Price and Pat Elflein weren't prototype size but were BA players. Plus the push towards more athletic guys like we see from @OLineWorld65 and the like. Guys who have stellar technique and can move
A3: There’s an emphasis on “getting bigger for football” instead of getting stronger/more athletic. Our strength coach @JasonPratt89 is one of the best at training the complete athlete, not just getting bigger #hogfbchat
A3: I think as long as the player maintains a level of healthiness it’s ok. If they have to have a break every 5 plays it’s probably a little too much weight #hogfbchat
Men, our health is important !!! Like you, I too love my job but I want to live!!! Stay current with your checkups!!!! Get your stress test!!! Get that EKG!!! #HOGFBCHAT
Q3) Where are they coach?! It doesn’t concern me if they’re at workouts and runs even if they can’t complete it the first time. I look for improvement. #hogfbchat
A3) It only concerns me if the individual is sacrificing mobility, flexibility, and the ability to fight/maintain leverage. I judge it purely on a case-by-case basis. It’s easier to add size/strength to an athlete than to turn a giant human into an athlete. #hogfbchat
A3: I think it’s actually started to take a turn in recent years. The big heavy guys who can’t move have gone away. At the high school level it worries me because I’ve lived through being a “healthy” 300lb player who stopped playing and that 300 turns into 400 quickly #HogFbChat
A2: A lot of the same as I mentioned before as well as trying to eat better and working on leadership training at different clinics I have gone to. This was some good stuff I got today from @kaleidoeye_lead as he came and talked to my students.
#HOGFBCHAT
One of the best things I do is put my oatmeal in a Mason Jar with Milk, nuts, and bananas (mostly) in the fridge before bed. Since it soaks linger you don’t have to cook it. I eat it cold and it’s perfect. Sounds weird, but it’s great. #hogfbchat
A3: I think the continued weight is a concern. A lot of them eat food that is not good for you in the long run. Yes, they gain weight but if they are not doing the right things in the weightroom it just turns into fat not muscle! Eating and working out go hand in hand #HOGFBCHAT
A3 cont. I played my last year around 340. Am down to 290 and dropping two years after retiring. As long as it’s a good composition a player will be fine. #hogfbchat
No reason to work that many hours, coach. I’ve realized that at a certain point, we overwork ourselves, get stressed, and actually start getting diminishing returns for our time. Gotta take care of yourself #hogfbchat
A3: I think the fact that every position on the field is getting bigger is concerning. They are all bigger, faster, stronger and it can impact the safety of the game. #hogfbchat
A3. Yes. We don't usually have huge kids but overall the size of guys now is worrisome. Being in elem school it shocks me at the overall weight problem we have in this country, but continue to cut and minimize PE in schools. #hogfbchat
I workout everyday! Love to be able to squat, deadlift, power clean, kettle bells, dips, pull-ups. Got to stay in shape or the kids will be like coach let’s see you do it. If you guys need workout ideas I have a ton. #HOGFBCHAT
A3: There's been a growth in size of offensive linemen? We don't seem to have that issue. I am absolutely concerned about the heftier kids that waddle around school and play zero sports. That is concerning. #HOGFBCHAT
A3: Depends on the build and activity level of the kid/family genetics...some folks are large and muscular, I was large and fat...large and biggish now... It's the inactive life after football that does us in was linemen #hogfbchat
A3) Great question - along with size, I'm seeing more athletism from the bigger kids. They are also more active with weightlifting/ lineman drills/ track

A3: the UNHEALTHY growth does. I’ve got some kids that are coming in pushing 265 and 40% body fat. I’ve got other kids that are 20% body fat and 225. If it’s good weight, I’m not opposed. But coaches that push unhealthy weight gain need to stop coaching. #hogfbchat
A3) I actually love the recent push for athletic, healthy OL. In the 90’s, “get huge however you need to” seemed to be the trend. Now we’re moving toward healthier athletes in better shape, I hope. Dudes like Nate Solder and Kyle Long are changing health expectations. #hogfbchat
A2 - I had a gastric sleeve done back in August. I was not healthy what so ever the past few years. I am down 85 pounds and have changed how and what I eat. I also walk/jog as often as I can. I will also begin working out again in the very near future. #hogfbchat
A3) Yes. Some of the HSs out in SoCal have OLs that were/are the same avg. height & weight as ours at ASU. Joints aren’t made to hold that weight. Let alone that many years. And teenagers don’t make healthy food choices (generally). That’s concerning. #hogfbchat
A3 as long as they're healthy I don't think it's a big concern. They just need to make sure they're taking care of their bodies. It can be tough being a big dude #hogfbchat
A3: We usually don't have that problem as most of my guys have always been undersized. I focus more on stressing to my guys being the best athlete they can be, not being as big as they can. 300 lb linemen that can't get to a lb do me no good #hogfbchat
A3: the human race as a whole has gotten bigger over time, the OL is just ahead of the curve, but with proper technique and aggression you can still survive the high school level with little speed bump guys #hogfbchat
We dont have a ton of those guys, our linemen are a bit on the leaner and agile end....can’t say i wouldn’t like a few of those BIG big boys though! Certainly not to the point where their health is at risk however #HOGFBCHAT
A2: this off season I have been lifting with the guys. I told them I needed to get in shape for my wedding in October and the guys have helped provide accountability. Meal prep has also helped. Try and do a cardio workout on the weekends #hogfbchat
A3) I do not want OL that can not move, so the slow mudders are a dying breed in my opinion. I want guys who can MOVE! So I will take a little undersized OL over size anyday. #hogfbchat
A3: As long as they are healthy and can play functionally.. if they can move at 6’6 320lbs like a guy that at 280lbs, we shouldn’t be concerned... the Dline coaches should #HogFbChat
A3) No. Id put money on linemen being healthier people than the average kid that doesn’t play sports. Might be 60-80 lbs. heavier but they’re in better shape #hogfbchat
A3: Here in my area Lineman started to decline in size, but as of late they have started to grow. In some aspects no but if it kills speed then we need the treadmill #hogfbchat
A3. I guess it depends on the kids your program gets. I don't have many 300+ pounders, so it hasn't been a pressing issue for the majority of my guys. #hogfbchat
A3 - I think we need to talk to our kids about how to continue exercising once they are done playing. Most of our kids will not go to the next level and need to know the importance of eating right and continuing to be active. #hogfbchat
A3 We usually play with smaller OL. Most likely you will have one OL at some point that is bigger than most. The goal should be to introduce them to training and guide them through better nutrition. The fact is we don’t fix their plate at home. it’s our job to educate #hogfbchat
A3)The bulking protocol and lose protocol are the same for me, if the kids are working out and eating as we ask, those bad bodies get better. Plus we are giving them tools that they can return to or hopefully stay with. #hogfbchat
A3: It’s important to make sure it’s healthy size. Muscle building, strength along with flexibility and overall athleticism. Make sure we are taking care of kids in there conditioning and overall health as well. #hogfbchat
A3: I don’t think guys have to be 300 pounds to be considered “unhealthy” some kids might think they need to be as big as possible and that’s not good. A 5’11 kid isn’t healthy at 275+ if he can’t move and function. Some can, some just try to get HUGE #hogfbchat
All about ability to move. Regardless of looks. If they move well it means they have musculature to support their size and they will be fine. #HOGFBCHAT
If there’s one thing I’m both proud and ashamed of it’s my sleep schedule....usually get a solid 8 hours but it’s at the expense of passing out on the couch by 9!! Miss the end of pretty much any game on tv lol #HOGFBCHAT
A3: to a degree yes. If nutrition and workout plans are on point then it should be fine while playing. Once playing days are over, a weight loss plan should be put in place to take stress off the joints of the body #hogfbchat
A1 I have given up pizza for the past 2 football seasons and lost 30 pounds during season with some dieting and exercise this past year. It helps to exercise during the season to get rid of stress. #hogfbchat
I ask kids to eat 1 to 1.25 grams of protein per pound of ideal body weight, no bread, pasta or grain. Big boys can't have crap food, they all have to turn it a food journal before I will talk supplements. #hogfbchat
Q4) At the previous program, we had 1st block football class so just walk into class and checking in. We had a great strengthen coach who handled it. #hogfbchat
A4: leading by example...I'm 75 down since the start of last season. I check in with them to make sure one on one they are doing what they are supposed to. #hogfbchat
A4: we only have so much control over it. What I can control is the workouts and we do a ton of abs and flexibility movements. Lineman Wednesday’s will begin once the weather breaks and that will be all about getting them in cardio shape with position specific drills #HogFbChat
A4: our Stength and Conditioning coach does a terrific job with them in all areas. And to be honest, I am trying to get my guys to put on muscle and weight... #hogfbchat
Emphasize the importance of conditioning and working out. Make sure they understand the kinds of stuff they should/shouldn’t put in their bodies. Also try and give them advice about when they’re done playing and getting weight off after my struggles #HOGFBCHAT
A4) They need to play other sports, its 100% what saved me, I would play basketball and drive my weight down for the climb during baseball. Left me ready for summer(all 3) and most importantly the fall. #hogfbchat
A4. Develop that family mentality. Have the players hold eachother accountable. We have guys of all shapes and sizes. Some need to gain and some need to lose. They’ll listen to their friends before you. No problem in helpful tips every now and then. #HOGFBCHAT
A4) Some of them are doing T&F with me and some do baseball or golf on top of our team workouts. One thing I’d like to see is more of our OL play multiple sports. #Hogfbchat
A4: We encourage our guys to participate in track. Even if they just throw, they complete the sprinters workouts. Just encourage them to be outside and moving. Not the couch/Cheetos regimine most would prefer #hogfbchat
A4: I check in with my guys often. We lift 4 days a week. I stress hydration and proper diet. I tell them that they need to put on GOOD weight and stay AWAY from fast food and other things. I also check on their grades and their mental status. #hogfbchat
A4) We keep tabs and are fortunate to have an abundance of multi sport athletes. most coaches on our staff coach at least one other sport in the school so there is a lot of crossover and interaction. We have a good idea of what everyone is up to (or not up to) #HOGFBCHAT
A4: Tried to introduce some reading on nutrition & sleep. Just to get them thinking "How can I add 2-3% development to my training?" In low-socio-economic area, it's sometimes hard to control those 2 things, but at least if they can bring some intentionality to it. #hogfbchat
A4: They workout everyday! This keeps them active so they can eat some of those not as great foods. This way that weight is not just fat it turns into muscle! Now they do need to understand to stay away from sugar! #HOGFBCHAT
A4: For most kids just talk to them. I have helped kids out who needed extra food/calories. We can get snacks from after school program too. If they need help losing weight i am a big fan of myfitnesspal app. Easy to use, has every food ever. #hogfbchat
A4: I’ll also add, we ENCOURAGE them to play a second sport or even third. Wrestling is a big one I encourage. Great to teach them body control and how to use their hands, while keeping them in shape and their competitive edge. #hogfbchat
A4) We have strength coaches for that. However, I am always open to talk to the guys on how I lost my weight after my playing days to give them ideas on how to shed some lbs when their time is up #HOGFBCHAT
I had never done yoga prior to joining. He has different levels. Starting with beginners. You can go at your pace. If you feel it’s too easy you can do more or vice versa. #hogfbchat
In reply to
@Coach_Ram8, @CoachMcInerney, @CoachDingus, @DDPYoga
A4: We do everything we can to keep our guys as busy and engaged as possible. The more they move the healthier they'll be. We don't have to worry about the fat guys eating. They'll eat. #HOGFBCHAT
A4 - Talk to local college and see if they have someone from the dietetics department to come talk to your players about good food choices. A friend is a PhD/professor of dietetics and she has masters level interns who needed clinical hours who spoke to our teams. #hogfbchat
I challenged our staff last year to lose a total of 50 pounds from July 1st to week 5. We were short of our goal by 2 pounds but it was the DB coaches fault cause he had nothing to lose! #bcd#hogfbchat
A4. Training them to be mobile agile athletic big men helps with overall health outside of football. I think being an example of a big guy who takes care of them self is something we can all do. Teach with our actions. #hogfbchat
A4: Encourage them to go out for other sports. We do spring speed/agility drills for those not out for a sport. Keep things up tempo in the weight room. Basically just keep them moving and active year round. #hogfbchat
We evaluate all of our boys. Most are multiplesport athletes and all others out of season are training. All of our players are taught basic nutrition principles for athletes. Most of our guys, we have to get them to eat more. #hogfbchat
A4) I think we all as coaches push for our athletes to be in the weightroom. However, I think that one area where I have focused on with my athletes that sometimes gets overlooked is nutrition and rest. Especially in the technological age we live in, I really stress #hogfbchat
A4) Cont... getting plenty of sleep for recovery. It all goes hand in hand with building speed & strength, nutrition, and recovery. You take one away and it becomes a bigger challenge for them to do! #HogFbChat
A4 Bonus: our guys have a LOT of stress coming at them with grades, Sports, college, girls, jobs, home lives, whatever it may be. As coaches we need to be a leg of support for them. We need to try and be there for them. Meet with your kids often. #hogfbchat
A4: I check in with my guys often. We lift 4 days a week. I stress hydration and proper diet. I tell them that they need to put on GOOD weight and stay AWAY from fast food and other things. I also check on their grades and their mental status. #hogfbchat

A4: Preach diet/nutrition, consistent sleep schedule and teaching time management with school being the number 1 priority! Vocalize W.I.N. (what’s important now) to help them get through their hectic schedule, control their stress, and develop into balanced young men! #hogfbchat
A4 I think it's important to stress eating right. Just because the season is over doesn't mean you can go crazy on the food. That's a lesson I learned the hard way when I played #hogfbchat
A4) our guys have stayed active by either wrestling, playing basketball, or weight and speed training since December. My appreciation for wrestlers has grown immensely. The results for our big fellas from the discipline in diet have been great #HOGFBCHAT
A4) I’m actually working on a nutrition guide as we speak! Hoping to have it ready by Friday to distribute before we leave for spring break! #hogfbchat
A4: I usually keep the guys after our workouts for a little extra work.. some jump rope or OL technique work.. it’s hard in the summer for us because we don’t have our guys from may-august #HOGFBCHAT
Make sure you track body weight strength exercises while kids are changing body comp. Pull ups and push ups, those numbers can never be sacrificed, #hogfbchat
A4: During our end of the year evaluation we set up goals for our guys to work towards along with different types of training with speed/explosion as well as our strength program. Seen a lot of improvement can’t wait to see where we are at the beginning of season. #hogfbchat
A1) Lifting before school helped tremendously. Didn’t have any excuses after practice because it was already in and get to sleep as early as possible during the week. #HOGFBCHAT
On 4/11/17 I had gastric bypass surgery. I weighed 301 pounds. Today I weigh 217 pounds. I am no longer diabetic. I take zero medications instead of 8. #HOGFBCHAT
A4: teaching them about active recovery. I stress it during the season and I actually had to teach @MylesMurao what a foam roller was. A MUST FOLLOW for this kind of stuff is @lamobilitycoach as she posts frequent videos for players and coaches alike to stay mobile #hogfbchat
A4: I love it when lineman wrestle in the winter and throw during the track season. Tell them to work on their stance and starts when they have free time #hogfbchat
A3: weight and size is all relative. 6’8” 3 bills looks a lot different (probably more healthy) then 5’6” 3 bills. I think we need to be more conscious of what is healthiest for our athletes, like weight relative to frame/height whatever #hogfbchat
Coaches, that’s a wrap! Thank you all for participating in tonight’s #HOGFBCHAT about health a wellness. A very serious topic! We appreciate you stopping by to contribute
Depends on how it's put on. I've coached some huge young men lately. 11 have gone on to play D2 or higher. 5 of the past 6 years we have averaged around 275 pounds. These guys were pretty athletic and the weight was added correctly. #HOGFBCHAT
A4) actually one of my big against the grain subjects. Not a big fan of a lot of stretching and foam rolling. Not very vocal about it because I’m not sure of the science behind it, but it was a detriment the 1 year I tried both a lot. #HOGFBCHAT
If anybody has any questions or topics they would like discussed on a future #HOGFBCHAT please DM those ideas to myself or @CoachDingus and we will get them up for the chat
Anybody in for a weight loss challenge between all of us fat guys? You "Skill position" coaches aren't invited. I mean, if nobody else is gonna do it I'm going to anyway so...might as well right? #HOGFBCHAT
A3: Not as a unit. I like big dudes on the edge. My inside guys need to be able to move laterally NOW. I'm not concerned though - I give them the tools and try and set an example for them to stay in shape into their adult yrs #Hogfbchat
A4: outside of off season work outs, I think 2nd sports, 3rd sports are extremely important. Just get out and do something! Staying active is going to keep that metabolism working. Preach proper nutrition, throughout. #hogfbchat
Next year we'll average around 270 but that's skewed a little by the 6'4 340 pound kid that will play C or G. He's a little heavy but he squats 620 legal powerlifting squat and runs a 5.4 40. Once again a good athlete. #HOGFBCHAT
Big thanks to our awesome sponsor @GameStrat_
We’d like to thank our official sponsor GameStrat! They provide teams with the most reliable and advanced sideline replay system. Check them out https://t.co/zXhCj3fYlu#hogfbchat
Thank you all for being here for the fastest hour on Twitter! We will see you all same time next week, Monday at 8pm CST for the next installment of the #Hogfbchat#AllGasNoBrakes#GoGo
A4: I give my guys the opportunity to work 2 days a week offseason doing SKAQ and lift - OLine focused. Offseason's hard though as they get busy w/other sports, springtime (Girls) etc. #Hogfbchat
One thing a lot of coaches need to be more aware of is mental health. If we're struggling, it has a negative effect on our students and athletes. Do things to ensure you stay happy, healthy, and balanced #hogfbchat
Always goes by way too fast! Such a great topic tonight as we are always striving to make an improvement in our players that sometimes we neglect our own selves! #hogfbchat
Had a guy in an Army unit with me commit suicide when I was a brand new Lieutenant at the age of 22. Never will forget that. Always wondered if I could’ve helped him more, and nobody saw any signs. Take care of yourself and reach out if you need help! #hogfbchat
A4 Call stick with mom to see if they need to get enough protein in thier diets during weight training We also put charts like these all around #Hogfbchat
Again, not popular thing 2 say today but there’s something to being a tougher, badder dude than everybody! Once heard some1 ask @RexHadnotJr if he repped for the short guys in the NFL? He said, “No! I rep for the MF’ers who kick ass!” Was my favorite quote of all time! #HOGFBCHAT
A1: Know when I need a break and need to spend time with my wife. I also try to get a quick 15 walk in. It really helps give me some time to reflect and clear my head. #hogfbchat
Coaches, that’s a wrap! Thank you all for participating in tonight’s #HOGFBCHAT about health a wellness. A very serious topic! We appreciate you stopping by to contribute
A3: it depends if it’s good weight or bad weight. We’ve all seen OL hold their weight well and others that don’t. I think it may be important to have weight loss talks with OL that aren’t playing in college, when necessary. #hogfbchat
A4: I try to focus more on the mental side. This could be any number of things whether that’s just talking to them, having an end of season interview, working on getting to know them better. As coaches we have a huge opportunity to help our players. #hogfbchat
#GratitudeChallenge Day 9 because we're overachievers CC: @SebLittle_ - Three things I am grateful for today - 1) #hogfbchat Twitter being fast & furious tonight!; 2)skirting the storms that hit the south today; 3) friends who want to share their knowledge, books, & time w/ me
