Q2: When do you or have you had a and what effect did it have on you?
Q2: Not enough room for fixed mindset. Change is always happening. We must always be learning.
A1: seeking information/ways/opportunities to teach/present/connect/do things better

beginning to pick up...I have not really pushed hard, thank you friend
As an T gave to be very careful with#fixedmindset keep my mind open to more modern ways if learning
Its so difficult when we know kids need support for a growth mindset, but Admin wanted "it" (data) yesterday!
A2 I realized learning is like a personal workout. Its ok to cry sometimes. Growth can be emotional and tears can flow.
A2 a creates a great deal of stress b/c you're focusing on all that u cannot change instead of willing 2 grow w/ it
A2 Now, if I want it, I work for it & I will it into being--all the while turning gratitude from a mere attitude into action!
A2: I struggle w/ the fear of failure fixed mindset sometimes. Working on shedding the need to feel perfect, be proud of growing
has so many educators sharing statements that come from their hearts. WAY TO GO!
A2: My creeps in when I look at my mistakes & my weaknesses. 😕 I can be more easily hopeful about others.
A2 When I find myself going to that fixed mindset I go to my best friend-hubby- he helps me push through it! ❤️😌
A2: I make generalizations all the time. Somewhat a fixed mindset in that I expect most things to conform but doesn't always fit.
A2:Grading, early in career. Assuming one way to show mastery. Years later mastery is subjective and everchanging.

A2: I recently attended for engagement and this has shifted my mindset!
Love what says about in her new book "Grit"...Passion + Perseverance.
I'm going into my 9th year! my work as an inst. tech coach for 4 years supported my switch, too!
Q3: What is one thing we can do to foster ?
I was always the one who said,"Why not?" My Growth Mindset got me many eye rolls- like using tech to engage my Ss!
Great to realize that! First step is self-awareness.
Q1: A growth mindset is always willing to improve and learn from the mistakes to overcome the obstacles in the learning path
is now trending in USA, ranking 46
A2: categorizing kids into "high" and "low". Ranking students does not help them learn!
A2 A FM keeps us from extending grace to Ss who work towards growing&changing their practices, especially in the behavior arena.
A2: probably my 3rd and 4th yrs teaching. Thought kids needed to get with the program & just do what they were told.
How do you handle the eye rolls?
So true! I mean, is it really even growing if it's not an emotional experience? https://t.co/KeI4IZecBC
A2 I realized learning is like a personal workout. Its ok to cry sometimes. Growth can be emotional and tears can flow.
Being open to growth is a key to long term success. Just don't fall into the thinking that everything old must be bad.
yes I had the littles and hosting . had a blast! Look forward to meeting you soon.
A2: honestly, the quiet ones sometimes catch me off guard. I have a perception that they lack understanding because they're quiet
I agree! So often I say, "Why be good when you can be great!" It's just a mindset! Never settle!
A2 I had a fixed mindset about social media. Friend convinced me to get on Twitter. Best advice I've had in a long time!
A2 Without a doubt math was my Achilles heel that still is there
A1: is about giving everything (w/in reason) a try and knowing you can get better.
love that! Believe in students!
A2 fixed mindset = moments, stubborn, didn't work
A2 like so many people, with MATH! Didn't help that I got a new stepdad-math-tchr right when I hit algebra!
A3 teach students @ & show them when we make a mistake. Be vulnerable. Be real https://t.co/v9TGP2uKVA
Q3: What is one thing we can do to foster ?
The chat is moving fast tonight but don't let that stop you from jumping into the stream.
A3 My "JUST DO IT!" attitude helps me foster a for self & Ss, we try to be about the Why not? rather than "But..."
A3 we have open ended projects where students pick tool and project
A3: encourage people to read Carol Dweck's work and engage ideology behind simple terminology shift.
provide Ss a chance to learn by exploring and experimenting
A3 We can make it safe to share and fail! Consider them as teachable moments by asking: "What did you learn?"!
I bet knowing this helps you empathize with your Ss!
A3. Collaborate with someone who has the mindset already. They will demonstrate the necessary habits to develop
A2: when I started teaching I didn't believe I could be "great"... It took others recognizing my gifts for my mindset to switch
Yep, homework. "It's what we've always done" love the shift to S centered!! https://t.co/65rqbliIHy
a2: 1st year teaching math - was the need for HW. Role-reversal and shifting to S-centered learning changed that!
Q3: We can foster GMS by living and modeling a GMS. Ts,Ss, & Ps must see this in us. We are all here tonight b/c of GMS
A3: With learners, think most important thing I can do is model that I'm always learning & adapting too.
A3 Transparency with our failures-sharing- humility! Jumping up and believing "We've got this!" No to naysayers!
A2: I don't feel we live exclusively in one & diff contexts bring out one more than others. It is a matter of reframing exp
A2: When I hear the word "smart" used as a state of being, not promoting opportunity to improve & grow. https://t.co/uzAetGTqST
Q2: When do you or have you had a and what effect did it have on you?
We have to help Ss see the possible. Like othets5have stated failing is learning and Growing. https://t.co/iFY33OKfEq
Q3: What is one thing we can do to foster ?
A2 Mine was always math...now I run a Math Grantn and I am in charge of math PD for 70 Ts
A3: Lead by example! Show others that you may not have it all figured out, but that's not enough to keep you from moving forward!
A3: Celebrate success - and remember that success looks diff. for different ppl & ppl like to be acknowledged in diff. ways!!!
BAM! Excellent advice. https://t.co/MURLXPwJ2b
A3: encourage people to read Carol Dweck's work and engage ideology behind simple terminology shift.
A3 Stressing in our convos the vocabulary of is a MUST. The more we change our language, the more we change!
A3:Lead by example. Let Ss and colleagues see you out of your comfort zone. Stay positive.
A1: Always pushing forward and learning new strategies that will help us to be more efficient
Reflect on failure, and allow students and kids to work through their learning. https://t.co/JlYKpcQrAb
Q3: What is one thing we can do to foster ?
A3: Reading current research, chats, books, etc. to inspire passion. Passion will drive you to be in a growth mindset.
A3 ENCOURAGE,, and say not yet, or how can you make that better?
A3: Reinforce and encourage growth mindset with not only our students, but also with our colleagues on a daily basis
A3: think of the potential we have individually as Ts & what we have accomplished & overcome...why can't our Ss do the same?
A3: create space for learners and teachers to re-examine the learning task so that growth is actually possible.
A3: Sharing successes, failures, our PLN, just being transparent in all areas of practice.
A3: Talk abt our mistakes and be proud of our accomplishments...don't fear shame or be too humble...both stifle growth
Q2: When I put my efforts to get my master which lead me to get the position I have now at my school
A3: make "can't" a bad word in your classroom. It's fun for the Ss to catch each other & then help rephrase the statement
A3 let all your LEARNERS (ss, TS, &Ps) know that it is ok to F.A.I.L. Asks Qs & share ideas with ppl. Everyone will start to grow
I tend to struggle with this too!! https://t.co/5eF8bypx7H
A2: It happens sometimes. : / Not proud. I tend to be harder on myself & revert to old thinking. I'm completely opposite for Ss!
A3: Begin by understanding (clarified by Carol Dweck); guide learners by continually challenging ends w/ new means
That's what I'm working on too with my own children...gettting rid of that phrase "youre a smart girl"
A3 We have to break the habits of "I can't... "I've never..." and MODEL IT!
I bet realizing that helps you empathize w/ Ss and better understand obstacles!
A3: Being open to new possibilities, risks, and challenges, but we also need to be hungry for it!
A3: Teach that ideology is devalued when the learning environment itself undermines it.
A3:Sandwich method, tell S or T what they did well, what they need to improve, and overall positive outlook
A3 1st Breathe, try again, act patient, & respectful with all ages of learners around us each day.
Great way to say it Tina, so many times we have to have the "will" & then build the "skill" as we go!
Should ask, "how did you know that? Where did you learn that?
Definitely need a growth mindset for tech int way to go! https://t.co/cloOfaXZ0v
I was always the one who said,"Why not?" My Growth Mindset got me many eye rolls- like using tech to engage my Ss!
It's hard for me to imagine you as anything but great - but maybe THAT is a fixed mindset, too! https://t.co/RKi0f13eAZ
A2: when I started teaching I didn't believe I could be "great"... It took others recognizing my gifts for my mindset to switch
That is right! I like that way of positive thinking, friend. :)
A3 options to demonstrate mastery, reward effort and coming back from failure
A3: Growth mindset is contagious when people start buying in left and right. Makes you feel like part of something bigger.
A3: Yes! I don't know it all and never will. I have to be willing to let Ss teach me!
A3 Ss data trcking & reflection in the clsrm. They were physically able to see the growth in their graphs https://t.co/ONZ0AeWyit
A3 show students how to rise up from mistakes/setbacks. Model by example
A3: Teach that abilities can change, ask questions, solicit feedback, take on challenges. (1/2)
Q3: Teaching setting goals methods (WOOP for example), dealing with frustration, promoting grit and perseverance, etc.,
A3 Celebrate failures, high five them, when they occur and for what they are an opportunity to grow.
Perseverance is key when it comes to growth mindset
A3: Focus on what we don’t know, rather than having all answers. Work to become. (2/2)
A3b: Do not accept limiting statements that would undermine the idea of growth potential.
A3: Give opportunities to learn that failure IS an option. Makerspace is a spot in intend to grow my students.
A3: deep, deep reflection with conditions that allow for meaningful action afterwards. Assessments kill this for example
A3: Worst case scenario is failure. But leaning comes from mistakes/failure. No real loss, I guess😉
Q3 Encourage others to share their passion. Listen and support. https://t.co/IjauT7gz3o
Q3: What is one thing we can do to foster ?
A3: Learn about your students so that you have an idea of what substantive growth actually looks like for them individually.
A3 I model to Ts that I lead that if we don't know, we can go find the answer, or play with it until we figure it out!
A3-You got to model a . It would be hard to teach it if you are not doing it yourself.
A3 Know students. Build trust that says it's ok 2make mistakes and don't hide yours. Transparency leaves one vulnerable but human
celebration is an important part of the growing and reflection process
A2. I had a fixed mindset when it came to communicating with my co-teacher. I always believed that they should know what to do.
A3 Get out more. Rub elbows with others (the diverser the better) as they work through problems and professional development..
And we as educators should be the greatest cheerleaders for those who need it. https://t.co/fkKG9np8cs
yes! Sometimes it takes more perseverance than others😉
Very true Jim, I always try & show my learners my mistakes as well so we can talk about the process
A3) lead up and extend grace. Everyone is at a different place in the process. Opportunity to coach!
Allow them to see your perseverance through mistakes. Your willingness to listen and continue to learn. https://t.co/Kp8Dko8PLZ
A3 foster environment where S (& T) believe in themselves; encourage S to step out and explore; accept constr crit
A3: Create opportunities for students to examine their reactions to certain learning tasks. Then explain .
A2:belief that "this" is what you are capable of based on upbringing. what others thought weighed heavier than what I desired.
A3: Worst case scenario is failure. But mistakes/failure breed learning opportunities. No real loss, I guess😉
A3 teach Ss to "fail forward" and try again. Stop doing everything for them.
Great example of If Then statements we can make!
Congratulations! Delivery is a special growth mindset of its own!!
and reflect on it. Love it!!
Oh my gosh, congratulations! What a bundle of joy!
A3: Encourage in your school. Your students should be examining how they learn best.
Q4: What questions do you have about or ?
A3: Once you know your students and the students know you care about them, don't be afraid to be critical.
A3: I also feel that love, empathy, joy, play, and mindfulness can foster a growth mindset in ways we can't even imagine
A3 model , show them we fail too, teach them strategies to learn from failure & celebrate growth & improvement
A3: Agree w/ Tina! Be open, honest, & transparent with our mistakes & teach Ss HOW to grow thru them. https://t.co/BLhQh3uKTp
A3: Lead by example! Show others that you may not have it all figured out, but that's not enough to keep you from moving forward!
I thought greatness was reserved for others w/ more experience. Took time to believe I could make a real difference.
A3 got cut in 8th grade football, ended playing in NFL...reminded my 8th grade coach of that
A1: Never being content with "good enough" always learning, researching, pushing to be better.
A3: don't hide mistakes. Allow SS to see you mess up and learn from your own mistakes. We don't have to be perfect either.
This is crucial. I love it!
Yes, and model caring criticism. Critique the idea, not the ideator.
Exactly. Educators are often all about the latest trend. Sometimes change is an improvement, sometimes not.
Some learners - adults and children - have to climb mountains to surpass past neg. comments to jump into
A4 Question: How can we encourage GM in fixed mindset school culture?
Even just following the and seeing all of the opinions on is incredibly insightful.
A3: When your students figure out how they learn best, listen to them. Create flexibility in your learning environments.
no to naysayers is key piece !
A3: school culture must embrace, model and encourage .

and their voice counts. They fight for equal time and that's challenge in and of itself Solving that is
Q7: Ss can't be afraid to fail. Failure is the best way to learn. Turn assessments into tools for developing a
A7 instead of hand it in, say publish it!
a7: never attach a numerical grade to something learned for the 1st time. Collect feedback, redesign, then assess based on growth
A7: Voice and Choice with process and product! Get the best work when Ss own their own learning. Differentiation is so powerful!
A7: After their presentations there will be a self reflection % a group reflection using input from the class.
Wish the goal of edu was NOT to assess & test but to help Ss fall in love w/the process of learning & find how each learns best.
High praise from you! Thank you! I need someone in TX to hire me pronto! ;-)
A7: When the grade is the focus, it is a . When the process is the focus, a can grow.
It's what they did at my son's internship this summer. He graded himself, then they chatted. Helped him grow!
A7: After their presentations there will be a self reflection & a group reflection using input from the class.
Hi ! Agreed, when we want to learn from them, they see it's all about that! https://t.co/ceVvBGE6VW
LOVE how the munchkins assume U want 2 know & will insist on showing U things. They KNOW their ideas have value.
Absolutely! I'm a speced admin, & do this all the time w/ staff, Ss, & families! We all have room to grow & be better!
A7 Balance Achievement Assessments with Growth Assessments.
A6: When I taught my kids we brainstormed things we we wanted to know! Demonstrating we all have things to learn!
A7:relating to TTESS; allow goals to change if not on target.
absolutely! Goal setting and tracking
A7: teach students how to self-assess. What types of problems are their teachers likely to ask? Make mini-quizzes.
A7 we have to work hard to align grading w or we risk sending mixed messages to students
A7 Train Ss to do positive, reflective self- & peer assessments that focus on moving forward, even if it is only in one small way
A7: give S's feedback. Grade for demonstrating how they arrived at their answer...even if it is wrong https://t.co/M9NGpekCBo
Q7: Some grading and assessment practices can trigger a . What are your hacks for assessment?
A7: exercises & activities help Ss w/ anxiety, ACES, etc. before going into an assessment
A7: the hack is in feedback. Highlight strengths. Identify area to improve. Promote process over product https://t.co/sRBTNqk6d9
Q7: Some grading and assessment practices can trigger a . What are your hacks for assessment?
A7) Don't use the word test. Let students know the function of assessment is to learn what we don't know, so we can move forward.
A6: Also, I regularly made errors in front of them while solving math problems & let them come "teach" me how they solved it!
Curveballs=how life works. Ss must be flexible, innovative & creative. Our job is not to teach them how 2 take tests.
A7 Hand out a test with the blanks filled with the correct answers and ask learners to come up with the questions..
Q8: What is an action you will take to further develop a in yourself and/or students?

Q8: What is an action you will take to further develop a in yourself and/or students?
Thanks for following Tim. I look forward to sharing stories and Not Perfect Hats :-)
A7 The jury is still out for me on grades. Even Ks reflect on their learning & are disappointed when they struggle w/challenges
A8: Be a part of this chat more often!
A7: Ask your students how your assessments and grading can be improved. Reflect openly about goals of each. Which are FA vs SA?
A8: taking more risks, stepping out of comfort zone. I'm an introvert, but I need to step out and present more.
A7: I use mistakes at the exams as a way to learn what they need to improve and encouraging them to keep learning
Based on these assessments what grade would you assign this student? 75, 75, 85, 0, 85
this has been great, thank you all for your insights
A7 GM assessment. Where exactly did ur understanding break down?If Ss can assess it, they can see where they are on "YET" bridge.
A7: Grading leads to , research supports this strongly. Comment only grading leads to
Model and speak the right language keep it in the forefront https://t.co/RgqX91OhOu
Q8: What is an action you will take to further develop a in yourself and/or students?
A7: I sew but don't like following patterns. My trial and error is my process. I own the learning and the problem solving.

Here is Q8 --->>> https://t.co/yBetEJKnyQ
Q8: What is an action you will take to further develop a in yourself and/or students?
A8: Student surveys for self reflection after major projects/tests.
As a SB member, I love talking to kids abt what they are curious abt & then ask them to show me too!
A8 Since outright failure is rare, focus on struggles, stumbles, & setbacks as natural aspects on the road to growth & success.
A8 more research, PD, & reading on for me. Then I will pass that on to Ts in my district.
A8: Practice and Preach that I am a true learner who will never stop moving forward/learning!
A8: I'm reading Carol Dweck's Self-Theories right now. Thinking about how I can recreate research settings in learning tasks.
A8: I will create a lesson to teach the difference between the learning zone and the performance zone.
See but that models real life! They will need to learn how to share & champion their own ideas. Good stuff!
A8) Make a point of choosing a topic, studying something I've never studied before. https://t.co/QnFGKwNvYb
Q8: What is an action you will take to further develop a in yourself and/or students?
A8: Read, reflect, redirect, refine
A8 Continue to look at failure as a means to greater success and as a prerequisite to learn.
A7: My fav one is to assign Ss to work in pairs on a test & include any "teaching" they do for each other as part of the points!
A8: Going to ask for fb after I present a pd tomorrow, reflect, and implement it. Show we all have something to share & can grow!
A8 I need to get out of my own way. Let go of fear and embrace trying new things.
A7: as much feedback as possible and allowing re-attempts for Ss so that fear of failure doesn't dominate their mindset
A7:I do a game in which students have to discover the mistakes in the sentences (teaching Spanish). Self-assessment become FUN
A8 To further develop a connect with more edus to expand the reach of and a shared community.
