The #educoach hashtag is used by instructional coaches around the world. We chat each Wednesday at 8pm CST on Twitter and use the hashtag throughout the week to share resources, ask questions and collaborate with instructional coaches.
Megan, instructional coach from IL. This was our first week back from break. It was great to connect with our new Ts today & help them reflect and set some goals for the 2nd half of the year. #educoach
Hi everyone! Robyn from TX...looking forward to the chat! This week’s success...Ts saying they need to teach reading and writing together!👏🏻👏🏻#educoach
Hi #educoach! I'm co-moderating tonight! My #eduwin was coaching a new teacher and seeing improvements in wait time today. Thanks @lsmith0917 for getting us started!
Hi #educoach PLN, Amanda, Elem Principal from NY, going to drop in for a little while tonight. 2nd week as a New Principal, so my successes are the many relationships that I am beginning to build with our learning community❤️
My win...having the principal return to the building today and say how calm everything was...our teachers are building so much self efficacy!!!!#EduCoach
A1: Planning a PD conference for our district in February. I'll present two sessions, but I'm building the schedule and connecting with presenters right now. #educoach
#EduCoach Success story from this week is that I started supporting Admin at a new MS site on Tues & along w/Principal was honored to shake over 500 Ss hands as they entered the gates & shared how happy I was to meet them, asked how their first day back was, & ssaid Good Morning.

Thanks, Julie! I appreciate it! I will still tweet out different coaching resources and ideas with the @365DaysEduCoach account, but I've been taking a little bit of a break since last year was quite an undertaking. :) #educoach
How to help teachers that you are not coaching but are working alongside to start thinking about best practices and learning about latest research. #educoach
A1: On my mind...more of a worry than a question....I am nervous about building relationships with teachers at high school...I am new to the building and only go there once a week. #EduCoach
A1: Promoting peer to peer observations again with our teachers. It is something I introduced previously and would like to revisit it with Ts. #educoach
A1 My main goal area is around achieving a work pattern that allows me to write & research alongside, rather than squeezed in between, 'core business'. Not that different to when in school :) #educoach
#EduCoach We have 11 New Ts at my site so doing all I can to support them. Was excited to be able to do today 5 full classroom observations, 1 debrief, and connect w/other Ts during break, passing, & lunch. Every interaction & conversations matters.
Who knows...you may see a "Day 366" with a pretty Canva background show up. Or a "Day 367" at some point. :) I celebrated at "Day 365" so if I get bored I may do some more. #educoach
Jen from San Diego Ca. Met with a team of 9th grade ELA Ts and backwards designed a unit. Great focus on skills & activities for student engagement. #EduCoach
Might help to tie it anything that your district already uses for evaluation. Danielson is what our evaluation system is based on. Good luck! #educoach
I'm now on @gcieducation Senior Leadership Team as Director for the states of Victoria & Tasmania :) Also committed to some writing and research this year. #educoach
A2: shoes that you value and respect them as a person first. Let the teacher know that they are heard and that the coaching journey is what they make it. It is not a prescription it’s an ongoing conversation and reflection. #educoach
🌱
#EduCoach A1: What is on my mind is how to better facilitate a Coaching cycle. ♻️ "Call them forward to learn, improve and grow, rather than just to get something sorted out." #EduCoach Love this👇🏼by @KarlyMoura
A2: I usually start by asking the T what they would like to focus on or work on during our sessions. The kickstart question is similar to what I have done in the past. #educoach
Q2 used it as an ice breaker to a coaching session. Got everyone relaxed and allowed for them to take what could have gotten in the way of a productive session off their shoulders #educoach
A2: This question opens the door for a teacher to share what they are thinking about. Could be personal issues, behavior issues in class, or the coaching issue you were expecting. Then you can respond where they are. #educoach
It is a great starter question. I sometimes use "what would you like to think about today?" too. Never as "how's it going?" - "what's better since we last spoke?" is much more +tve. #educoach
Q3 giving themselves or their classroom a rating of “idealism” and talking about why they chose that rating. Gains a lot of insight about how the T sees themselves #educoach
A2: It puts the person (Teacher or someone else) in the driver's seat to direct the conversation. It also helps us know, as a listener, to just listen and take it in without letting the "advice monster" take over :-) #educoach
#EduCoach A1: Posing this ? with Ts opens up doors, allows us to see through their window into what is actually on their mind, and serves as a mirror so that they can better reflect on how they are seeing the world. 🚪 🔮 🌎
I love that one too. It allows Ts to use their own idea of the scale and where they are and always leads to reflection on where THEY want to grow. #educoach
Q4: The author, @boxofcrayons, describes coaching as helping others solve their problems. What is a teaching problem you've coached where the teacher had the answer? #educoach
A3: I like and have used the leading phrase “I am curious...” this can be followed by a more direct question about a more agenda..ish question. #educoach
A3 If the conversation is part-way through a coaching cycle I might use a 1-10 scale of progress towards the goal + "what get's you that high & not lower?" #strengths#resources#educoach
A4: This happened today - I asked about how the teacher responds to incorrect answers and they had a clear idea on how to shift to asking students to explain their thinking - right or wrong. #educoach
Great question! Today, I asked students what they would do if they weren't in school tomorrow, but I didn't even think of asking the teacher. #educoach
I’m a new K-2 Literacy Coach this year and am loving my time peeking in on the #educoach conversation. Learning lots, so thanks in advance! 👌🏻😊 #ilovemyPLN
A4: how they could set up workstations in a way that would work...that depends on them and their Ss. I just ask Qs to get them thinking so that they can come up w/ their own system. #educoach
Q4: The author, @boxofcrayons, describes coaching as helping others solve their problems. What is a teaching problem you've coached where the teacher had the answer? #educoach
A4 Today I had the opportunity to observe 2 teachers reflect (due to the coaching they received) and move to planning their next steps. It was powerful! #educoach
#EduCoach A3:
Tell me more about...
I'd love to hear more about...
I'm curious to hear more about...
I'd love to learn more about...
Where should we begin...
How do you want your Ss to remember you?
A4 I actually think that the teacher has the answer most of the time, or they at least have the capacity to find the answer. Often, all they need is the safe thinking space created by coaching #educoach
A5: Change is hard - but it's possible to change if things are broken down like habits. I actually applied the habits part of this book to making dinner for my family and exercising in the morning... #educoach
A4: Well I believe the answer must always come from the teacher. But that does not mean I always remember to practice it. My coaching wins have all been from teachers though. #educoach
That's a great point. Raising awareness and responsibility to take those first (small) steps towards the preferred future are the key outcomes of coaching. #educoach
q5: The study of habits helps us as coaches understand what might help identify current reality with teachers and use questioning and dialogue as a way for Ts to help find their own ways to improve practice and ultimately support learners in our classrooms. #educoach
Q6: The power of Ts recording instruction and the T's reflection on that video to help identify ways that they might tweak or change their practice to better reach their learners. #educoach
A3: It’s not a question but I often use the phrase “Tell me more.” I’ve had great success with it as a way to gather more info and clarification. Creates an opportunity to increase the T voice. #educoach
A6: I get all of my best materials from lifestyle coach and entrepreneurial podcasts. How I Built This is one of my favorites. We are in the business of building minds and practices. #educoach
A7 Right now the #educoach chat is reading and discussion the book The Coaching Habit (happening right now) https://t.co/iVXSrRYvxn The book lays out a series of questions that can be used. Check it out #eWalkThrough
A7: Having your own coach is like having a mentor. I don't know what I don't know, and my mentor can help me on my journey. Thanks @RachelLabuz for mentoring me. She challenges me & helps me with what's on my mind. :) #educoach
Q7: modeling for others that you acknowledge the benefits of coaching. It also helps the refection process and continuous improvement for yourself and the team you might serve. #educoach
#EduCoach A4: Helping Ts solve their problems means serving alongside Ts as partners & together viewing learning from different angles until we see it as an opportunity. Each lens uncovers new ways of being. 📷 #TheAnswerIsWithinTheRoom or across the hallway or across ... ;)
#EduCoach A7: Everyone can benefit from a Coach. 🍃Excited to see that more Districts are moving towards creating Coaching positions even site based ICs as well as encouraging a #CoachApproach overall to supporting Ts! 🍂
A8: I need to develop the habit of “just do it”. I tend to get stuck in planning and what if mode instead of just moving forward and then tweaking from there. #educoach
A8 I need to make it a habit to collect data on students each time I observe. I do it in my head more than documenting to reflect with teacher better. I will bring my tablet and google forms with me and use them! #educoach
I went to go to bed. Get some 😴! Then I opened Twitter wow all of the twitter chats. I am on overload of the amazing, passionate, motivated educators around the globe! #KidsDesereveIt#eWalkThrough#educoach just to name a few #proudeducator
I removed my work email from my phone recently. I am going to see how this works for me in the evenings. (Even though my computer is open and I have an email tab open as well.) #educoach
A8: I would like to add the habit of slowing down to focusing on small changes with teachers. Sometimes we get too excited about the "grand" lesson instead of breaking it down. Focus on "why" we are working together. #educoach
A9: Foremost and always front and center are Students! They are always on my mind with every thought, action, communication, interaction, and next steps I take and with the Ts I serve. I try to guide every decision made with Ss at our core. #EduCoach
A7: I’m fortunate that other instructional coaches & I created a PLC of sorts. We role play using scenarios and then provide each other feedback and ideas. #educoach
In the fall I also decided to participate in fewer Twitter chats in the evenings. A few years ago I was doing too many and had to stop. (Plus some started at 9 pm and that is too late for me.) #educoach
