A4: I’m only teaching HS seniors this year, so their love of learning comes across more subtly than it probably did for these kids 10 years ago, but… #caedchat
A4: From working at the YMCA with children. When I saw the children smile/laugh and interact with each other, made me smile as well. Knowing they are having fun while doing something educational. Reminds me that education doesn't always have to be boring.
#caedchat
A4 in 1st grade, SS really naturally love learning. They're excited 2 learn, try new things & document their growth. That is always so exciting as a T & motivates me. But what I really love is when I see what each SS is truly interested in & how they teach themselves #caedchat

@MrsBarnett_Tchr and I are plugging away at ours right now! Will definitely DM you if I have questions - I really love what I've learned so far...so much more than what I originally thought the program was going to be. #caedchat

It is always so awesome when a student starts off struggling but then finally gets it. I just have to give them a huge high five and cheer them on because they worked so hard to get there. #caedchat
A4 I love running into my former Ss. Saw a former student working at @calpizzakitchen while taking college classes and gave him some tech tips. He said, "I'm out of school and you're still teaching me!" Big smile on his face AND mine. #LoveTeaching#caedchat
Q4: Love of teaching is also connected to students’ love of learning. When do you clearly observe your students’ love of learning, and how does it affect you? #CAedchat
A4 cont.: I’ve learned to just ask. They won’t exclaim their joy as much but they’ll give you honest answers and feedback, and it’s still gratifying to hear they love a particular book, activity. You can see it in how they tackle a challenge too #caedchat
A4: When my students experience the joy of learning or appreciating something new and, unprompted, help a struggling peer so they can also savor the delight #caedchat
A4: Nothing brings me more joy than watching children performing. Music, dance, drama, doing presentations of learning. Self efficacy building brings pride and joy to all involved. Ts , Ss and parents. #caedchat
Yes! I love when I see them teaching others. When they get to the point that they totally get it and they want to help other people "get it", no matter what "it" is. #caedchat

A4 When students come up to me first thing in the morning, ready to share something they went home to learn more about. They take their learning out of the classroom walls. #caedchat
I think it's awesome you have identified this area of wanting more growth! It's important for teachers to be lifelong learners, & I think it shows tremendous responsibility and love for your students by identifying areas you want to improve #caedchat
A4) I observe my students' love of learning when I see them make mistakes, realize they were wrong, and they keep going. I love their courage as they keep working and volunteering their thinking process!
#CAedchat#LoveTeaching
A4: I know I’ve tapped into Ss love of learning when I see them reach a moment for “flow”... when they’d rather work on the project they’re in the middle of than go to recess... #CAEdChat
Q4: Love of teaching is also connected to students’ love of learning. When do you clearly observe your students’ love of learning, and how does it affect you? #CAedchat
A4: There is a flow of knowing and being in the moment. I have taught elementary thru high school. There is nothing like the joy in a young child's eyes. #CAedchat

A3: Recently, I attended a training on how to serve some of our students & communities through a cultural lens. I realized that there is still so much for me to learn but I will always want to be someone who is teachable. This work has increased my love for learning #caedchat
A3: I am exploring the world of education. Seeking certifications with @GoogleForEdu Looking for opportunities to grow and learn. Most importantly working to find balance in this fast paced educational world@TheLeaderinMe #CAedchat
A4 When I'm teaching a demo lesson in a class I dont always know their schedules. Sometimes I will teach right through recess and no one will notice. That's engagement! It warms my heart. I also love questions like, Can I work on this at home? #CAedchat
https://t.co/yXaa0RI9yZ We keep it simple. Personally, I get a bit frustrated with videos with long introductions, busy animations, and distracting music. Must be my #SpEd background. Sweet, simple, to the point! #loveteaching#caedchat

#CAEdChat A4) As a previous #artmajor I absolutely love incorporating the arts in the classroom. Whether writing, drawing, creating on any level, when my students create beautiful masterpieces (and yes anything they make is beautiful) I am in awe! #artforartsake
A4: Recently I was sick (+absent) & asked my Ss to write me letters abt their day. Every single student had written a form of, “I can’t wait for my brain to grow when you’re back.” That love of learning is reinvigorating. It allows me to appreciate the learning process #caedchat
A4: Love of learning is everything. It's wonderful when S's are inspired. They often lead, challenge and want to explore more. It's taking initiative, without being asked #CAedchat
A5: For me, it's the little things. Like popping into a neighbor's classroom during break or at the end of the day. These small moments help me feel connected and also #LoveTeaching more because I'm not alone. #CAedchat
A5 I really love interacting with teachers on Instagram and YouTube. There is a lot of informational and inspirational content being produced! I also keep in touch with my past teachers and reach out to them for advice or a funny anecdote when I need a pick me up. #caedchat
A5: Here’s a way to recognize and celebrate each other, with unions taking the lead. I helped design Ovation! in collaboration with other teachers supported by @CTAIFT@WeAreCTA#caedchathttps://t.co/YjmxGittef
A4 I love when you think you are "catching" your students off task while they are working independently or collaboratively. As you slowly approach them, you discover they are engaged and on task, having amazing discussions. #caedchat
A5: I think teaching is a profession in which it is our job to be there for our students, and everything we do should be centered with their needs in mind, so connecting with colleagues can not only benefit us, but our students as well! #caedchat
A5: We have got to spend time together. Eat lunch in the lounge, check in on your fellow teachers. It is so tempting to just get one more thing done while eating, but we need our peers to give us advice, bounce ideas off of. Don’t forget about your team Ts. #CAedchat
A5 Take the time. I take time to go & just talk 2 my colleagues. They are friends & like all relationships you need 2 take the time 2 get 2 know them, listen, chat & have fun! Don't just stay in your room, get out & mingle. I also made an "ask me" section on my website #caedchat
#caedchat A2) over the years I have found that collaboration is vital to my teaching... twitter, constant check ins with my team, get togethers, and collaborative projects online allow for educators to connect, share, and support!
Agree. When Ts are more connected I think they are also more aware of what is happening in other classrooms and have a better understanding of the student experience. #CAedchat
A5: In order to maintain connections, I think it is important to reach out ourselves instead of waiting around for others to reach out to us. As a student, I keep in touch with my professors by revisiting them and just talking story to them asking life questions.
#caedchat
A5) I truly believe we are #bettertogether! Building your #PLN and looking to them for guidance is a start. Just started a new job which could be very lonely if I let it be...make those connections, keep those relationships and work together to build #collectiveefficacy#caedchat
Q5: Love of teaching also comes from connecting with colleagues. How do we maintain those connections, overcoming potential isolation to support and uplift each other? #CAedchat
Q4: I love to watch my students talk and learn. Students learn best (AND are most engaged AND develop their academic discourse) when they're TALKING. I live for them being surprised by the bell because they're so into the discussion #caedchat
A5:Doing what we are doing right now! As soon as I saw the topic, I sent the link to my staff. Sharing favorite blogs and amazing events like @EdCampSD#caedchat
A5) Everyone wants validation, especially me. So I give what I want. I thank my colleagues whenever I can and when a student shares what they like from another teacher, I make a point to approach that teacher and let him/her know they made a difference.
#CAEdChat#LoveTeaching
A5: i'm not a big social media user, but i can see it's benefits when maintaining connections. i can keep in touch with old teachers of mine, and i plan to use it to keep in contact with my peers once we start teaching #caedchat
A4: just remembered this blog post I did a while back - lots of photos I’ve taken in classrooms, kids not sitting passively, teachers not “lecturing” - engaged, loving learning and #LoveTeaching#caedchathttps://t.co/3sRZoyUov9
A5 share, invite colleagues in, find the ways that work best for your particular team/school site. Sometimes it means bargaining for time and every teacher knows how tough that can be. #CAedchat
A5: Love what you do in the presence of those who do what you love. Be present everyday. Be vulnerable and be a servant leader. You’ll never be alone. #loveistheanswer#caedchat
A5: At my school, we have a blast during our lunch break in the staff lounge. We have "Anything Goes Thursday". We have to leave the lounge with tears from LOL. When other teachers some in that normally aren't there for our lunch period they don't want to leave. #caedchat
A5: I truly believe that teachers need to connect with each other. I try to talk with my colleagues when I can at my site. My real connections are through twitter, #CUE, and #edcamp#caedchat
A5: Connection is all important. Now that I am not in the classroom every day, weekly #caedchat sessions become my PLN and sustaining force. Of course, there are all those family and friend connections who are my life blood. Getting together for walks and talks really works.
A5: I am blessed with the most amazing teaching partners. We plan and collaborate daily. Reminds me of a beehive. Lots of amazing energy which keeps the love of learning alive. #caedchat
A5:Doing what we are doing right now! As soon as I saw the topic, I sent the link to my staff. Sharing favorite blogs and amazing events like @EdCampSD#caedchat
A5: Building relationship with our colleagues and our S's is an important part of education. Also, self reflection, opportunities to grow from others. Building a PLN community and connecting with passionate educators with similar vision.#CAedchat
A5 In my role I need to make connections with teachers in order to be a successful coach. I take time to listen. It has made the biggest difference. #CAedchat
A5:Doing what we are doing right now! As soon as I saw the topic, I sent the link to my staff. Sharing favorite blogs and amazing events like @EdCampSD#caedchat
A5: I firmly believe that our relationships with our colleagues sustains us & we need connectedness. For me, it’s something as simple as checking in during prep time or buying a teammate their favorite coffee Monday morning. #caedchat#butfirstcoffee ☕️
A5: In order to maintain connections, I think it is important to reach out ourselves instead of waiting around for others to reach out to us. As a student, I keep in touch with my professors by revisiting them and just talking story to them asking life questions.
#caedchat
A5: Our school culture & PLCs keep us connected. Regular after school mtgs + creatively scheduled meeting time during school day thx to @CampbellCSI + a staff dedicated to staying connected, learning together & teaming for the sake of Ss = awesome support system! #CAEdChat
Q5: Love of teaching also comes from connecting with colleagues. How do we maintain those connections, overcoming potential isolation to support and uplift each other? #CAedchat
A5: We all need like-minded teachers (on campus, in another school, on Twitter) to go through this journey with. There are the informal friendships and teaching partnerships, but I'm also talking about small learning communities to challenge and support each other #caedchat
A6: You have to show them that you want to be there. You are there for them. Like, SMILE, ENGAGE, CONVERSE...You are there for them and they are there for you! Be vulnerable, be real. #caedchat
I'm not afraid to act like a goofball and really nerd out around my students. I think this communicates my passion for the subject matter and comfortability around them. They think it's funny too, so I guess that's a bonus! #caedchat
A6) My students know I love teaching because sometimes I'm "mean and call parents" but I'm always smiling when I'm looking at my students.
#CAedchat#LoveTeaching
A6: While I can't yet speak to having students, I think it matters b/c students see teachers as their role models. We are in a position of authority and if a teacher has a poor attitude toward something, students won't feel the need to care either! #caedchat
A6 I admit when I don't know something or when I was wrong. They also see the joy on my face when I get excited. While teaching #ImmersiveReader in #Office365 to a T and her 6th graders, a new tool popped up and the Ss laughed because I was giddy with joy! #LoveTeaching#caedchat
A6 It is pretty easy to tell because I get kind of giddy and excited. I may look silly but they know I love what I'm doing. I love teaching because I love learning. #caedchat
A5: I try to do the little things like candy in our work areas, sharing my hotel K cups w/my coffee drinking coworkers, offering bathroom breaks on my plan time, pitching in to help w/out being asked & sharing anything and everything for those who need it. #LoveTeaching#CAedchat
A6: I can tell when my professor loves teaching when they give off excitement in their teaching. I can tell when a teacher has passion for what they are doing. They are more engaged with us and make us feel like we want to be there too.
#caedchat
A6: My sts have seen me laugh, cry, and bounce a baby on my hips while cheering them on after school. They know I care about them as much as my kids at home. #CAedchat
A6 they know I love teaching because they see how excited I am to try something new. I tell them when I am going to a conference or how I will ask another teacher at school or on Twitter. Sometimes I even take them with me to help teach other Ts. It matters! #caedchat
A6: Students can tell I #LoveTeaching when I geek out about some turn of phrase, or almost cry from reading aloud - this is the one that gets me… You have to read the whole thing (later). https://t.co/e0kXabgn5R#caedchat
Q6: My student know I love teaching because I tell them that, I tell them I love teaching THEM specifically (they are all my favorite class!), and I am usually laughing and smiling #caedchat
A6: I recently had a student agree to present on a panel and his message said "I'm happy to be there for you like you've always been there for me." These connections make me #LoveTeaching#CAedchat
Yes. It's great to have adult conversations that do not pertain to anything from work. Don't get me wrong, we do have great collaborative conversations but we need those days without school talk in the lounge. #caedchat
A6: I think my Ss can tell that I love teaching when I am being silly and getting excited when I am teaching. When they see I care by listening to their stories. #caedchat
A6: More than one of my former students said that what they remember about me most is my smile...love that! I also have "happy heart attacks" in class! #caedchat
A6: I had a S ask me this year “What do you like about being a T?” And I got to say EVERYTHING! I think I have the best job ever! Also showing excitement into teaching things I like division is always great. I love to say this is my favorite lesson get ready kids. #caedchat
LOL - I do that. Lots of joking (maybe too much?) but also sincere “I love you guys” - often offered as the reason I’m not going settle for X, Y, or Z #caedchat
Yes this is huge! I have no problem apologizing to a student & saying "I am sorry I was wrong". I tell them "See, even us grownups make mistakes and are learning". We need to be real with the kids & own up when we don't know or make a mistake. #caedchat
A6: When writing with them my story started with, "I had an amazing experience that made me smile, nonstop, for 60 minutes. What do you think I was doing? One replied, "Teaching kids?" I laughed. I was really in a puppy class. #caedchat
A 6: i think a lot of it has to do with just showing up. teaching is not an easy job (and it doesn't always get the recognition it deserves), but educators show up everyday with the desire to make a difference in students lives. it's subtle, but i think that shows love
#caedchat
A6: I hope they have seen both my joy & also the dedication I put into my work. It's so important for them to see that I #LoveTeaching because it's the best job ever & I want them to consider the profession as their career! #caedchat
A6) #CAEdChat I share my excitement with my students about current studies, I try and give stories of past experiences based on the learning, and I just try to connect to my students work by complimenting their talents and ideas.
A6: My S's know by the way I respond to them, I can be goofy, make up lyrics to song on a wimb. The know I am real, because I am honest with them, laugh, smile and make them feel like they are everything. When I am not feeling myself, they quickly change that!#caedchat
A6: I always come in with a positive attitude. I also let them know that I was not a great student in HS but that I overcame many obstacles and that they could too. I try to connect everything we are learning about with food and culture. I'm at a very diverse school. #caedchat
EXACTLY! How can we expect them to learn from mistakes if WE don't admit them, too? My fav anecdote is when 2 Ss had the same exact answers on a quiz. "What do you think I'm thinking?" "You told us to work with a partner." Oops, DUH! LOL #LoveTeaching#caedchat
Q7: There are many seasons to teaching - Back-to-School, fall/winter holidays, spring testing, and all the craziness of the end of the school year. How do you maintain your love of teaching through all the challenges of year? #CAedchat
@CohenD@MegNGross Q2 Been at this for 20+ years and at every level K-12, private, public and international. Some years are better than others ... but can’t imagine being in any other career. #LoveTeaching#CAedchat
A7: Being out of the classroom is strange when it comes to a school year beginning & ending...it just kinda goes on. I actually keep thank you emails in a folder that I read on those less than cheerful days. And I try to get into classrooms more! #loveteaching#caedchat
A6 step one: be real Kids can spot a phony in an instant. If I don't bring it, they won't bring it. If I don't love it, how can I expect them to love it? It took a long time for me to learn that it was ok to be vulnerable in front of them. #CAEdChat
I bet your sharing your personal story and being so real with your students about your own challenges is a huge part of what makes you a great teacher #caedchat
A7 There is a lot of stuff that happens in our lives & lots of things can get overwhelming. I think it is important to understand SS have similar situations. How do we handle all the "stuff"? Prioritize & surround yourself with positive people. Teach SS 2 do the same. #caedchat
A7 Honestly, it is hard. I love 95% of my job and I feel very fortunate for that. When that 5% hits I rely on friends, family and colleagues to help me through. #CAedchat
A7 Fun events and projects that made each time something to look forward to: Back to School night meeting the families, state presentations, overnight boat experience, national monument reports & float parade, book commercials, spring program, etc. #LoveTeaching#caedchat
Q7: There are many seasons to teaching - Back-to-School, fall/winter holidays, spring testing, and all the craziness of the end of the school year. How do you maintain your love of teaching through all the challenges of year? #CAedchat
Exactly!! Kids spot phony. So do adults. That’s why we need to be in charge of our own work! No canned curriculum, no unwanted training by outside consultants will ever “stick” the way good work does when we own it and everyone knows it and you get buy-in #caedchat
A6 step one: be real Kids can spot a phony in an instant. If I don't bring it, they won't bring it. If I don't love it, how can I expect them to love it? It took a long time for me to learn that it was ok to be vulnerable in front of them. #CAEdChat
#CAEdChat A7) Once in a while pause... #sharpenthesaw#habit7 reflect on my family, home, self... then work individually on current goals and projects - whether work related or personal - to get back into the creative/teaching mode. #teachwithsplendor
A7: Make a point of finding something to be grateful for each day. As my dad says. Life is full of hard, boring and sad moments. Be grateful everyday anyway. Life itself is a gift. #gratitude#caedchat
Absolutely. I was using the Zones of Regulation with my students and after 3 months of instruction-I started the class explaining why I was in the "red" zone. Once I started modeling my own self-regulation, my students followed suit. @mrswendymturner does this so well! #CAedchat
I think this is great advice. It is also something to model for students. They have a lot of "stuff" happening too. We need to teach them to just pause sometimes. Great point. #caedchat
A7: My favorite approach is to plan lessons that I know I'm excited to teach. Usually those are activities that students enjoy and their excitement gives me the pep in my step that I need to get out of any funk I made find myself in. #LoveTeaching#caedchat
A8: Teaching is the most fulfilling and exhausting job all at the same time. You must love and advocate for kids. Don't think you are getting summers off. And you impact the future of the tiny humans in front of you. #DoItWithHeart#loveteaching#caedchat
A7: Before returning from Winter Break, I spent some time reading inspiring blogs and getting myself excited to try something new. Loved @Catlin_Tucker What Lights You Up. Like to connect with others during these times.#caedchat
A8 surround yourself with positive people & understand that teaching is a calling that you never "master". Everyday is a learning experience, everyday you will probably fail somewhere & succeed somewhere, but everyday you will get better & so will your students. #caedchat
A7: Having great people to work with makes all the difference! When one of us is down, the others lift us up! We share the joys and the challenges! #fourteachersonebrain#caedchat
A8: As a college student, my advice for other students would be is that it is okay to explore and not be sure what exactly you want to do. As long as it is something that you love to do. It will be worth it in the end.
#caedchat
A7) I have a few friends I confide to. I also have my blog to help me reflect on my good and bad days. But most of the time, I think of my students who come to school despite certain difficulties at home and choose to go to work as expected.
#CAEdChat#LoveTeaching
A7: To me I don't sweat those seasons. I just put more stress on implementing new strategies in my class. I think the hype of testing makes things challenging but I try my best to keep things calm so that my Ss don't feel it. #CAedchat
@MegNGross@CohenD A3 Actually the recent @UTLAnow strike was a huge learning experience for me and changed a lot of my thinking non regards to unions, teaching and social justice #LoveTeaching#CAedchat
Q7: Take it moment by moment. Every week this year feels overwhelming and impossible to accomplish. If I focus on one lesson at a time I can feel my love for teaching . When I do that I get to feel the love ❤️ of teaching feeling over and over during the day #CAedchat
A8 Advice I got when sharing a "new" concept with a veteran teacher who laughed, having done it years before.: Don't worry about #buzzwords. Focus on concepts and teaching styles that work for you and your Ss. Ideas come, go, get renamed, repackaged, and return again. #caedchat
