Howdy, #ditchbook friends! Evan Mosier, Tech Integrationist Lead from Davenport, IA here. Enjoy being with all of you each Thursday. I'm ready for a rockin' chat full of new extensions to try!
If you're joining #DitchBook and wondering what Chrome extensions are ...
They're little icons in the top right corner of your Chrome browser ... little apps with special super powers!
Hey, #DitchBook chat. I'm Charlie Greer. I'm finishing up my MAT in Special Education with a focus on Intellectual Disabilities at Converse College. Chatting from Greenville, SC!! #conversechat
FYI, #DitchBook friends ... I'll be gathering lots of tweets from tonight into a blog post tomorrow.
Our collection of extensions will be published! Woo hoo!
A1: My favorite chrome extension is the Buffer create image with Pablo extension. It allows for me to create some really interesting visuals with text as I am reading different blogs and sites. #ditchbook
A1: I can't tell you how many times I use the @Bitmoji Chrome extension.
Great for slide presentations, emails, even providing feedback to students!
https://t.co/sQkFSJ0fAM#DitchBook
A1: @alicekeeler and @jmattmiller's Drive to Slides extension is awesome. My Ss do a lot of work with images and it's an easy way to quickly put images in a slideshow format (in seconds!) #ditchbook
A1 cont.: Then Read&Write for Google Chrome https://t.co/8H6IkzxBsI By far the accessibility tool. With dual color highlighting, this extension will read any article, web page or document to your struggling readers. #ditchbook
A1: I have too many! Argh. I can't decide. Maybe Extensity to organize all my Extensions! Draftback to see student writing history made into a video clip. #ditchbook
A1 Ohhh my favorite is the @Snagit chrome extension that I still hold on to with a death grin. Boy I wish they would bring it back 😢 #DitchBook also LOVE my Bitmoji extension!
A1: I really enjoy designing and creating things, whether it's a poster, newsletter, brochure, whatever it may be, my absolute go-to extension is the Eye Dropper! As odd as it sounds, the Eye Dropper has become the most useful one! #DitchBook
A1: Wow...just one??!! I really like Move It. It pops up and gives you a small exercise / movement to do so that you break up the time you're seated and staring at the computer. #ditchbook
A3: Screencastify is a game changer.
Students can record video of their screens -- and turn it in as easily as turning in a document.

Ooooh, that's an awesome idea! I may have to use that! It's always nice when your poster involves Google and you can exactly match the main colors! #DitchBook
This looks awesome. I think students will really like seeing feedback like this. It's fun and can make them laugh. I also like that it's similar to the ones commonly used in phone texts. #DitchBook#conversechat
A2 Office Editing for Docs, Sheets, and Slides -
Great for quick editing of Office files without having to download, edit, re-upload.
https://t.co/RZeSHOB7iP#DitchBook
A2: From a productivity standpoint, the Eye Dropper once again, but the Alice Keeler Gradebook split and "Add to Classroom" extensions are amazing! #DitchBook
I manage most of them. I have some that overload my Mac and makes the fan continuously run. Color picker is one of them. I have to keep it disabled or uninstalled. #DitchBook
In reply to
@specialtechie, @herrplatt, @jmattmiller
A2: Extensity because I need organization: https://t.co/o9Q74IiIeY otherwise "Add to Keep" ttps://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/google-keep-chrome-extens/lpcaedmchfhocbbapmcbpinfpgnhiddi #ditchbook
Well, I thought I had a blog post about it but I guess I don't. It will split two tabs equally on the screen and then put them back in one window. #DitchBook
I don't use them, but Kasey always talks about it...in fact #googleteachertribe I think covered it in an episode. What do you like/use them for? #ditchbook
Imagine your Ss are doing research and reading an online article. They are also taking notes in a google doc. With Tab Scissors, it puts those screens side-by-side for easy viewing & note-taking. No toggling back and forth! #DitchBook
Oh. My. Goodness. Read this:
Save yourself from those distracting coworkers with the “NOPE” button.
Press this button to send a call to your phone. Apologize sincerely as you pick it up. Then watch them walk away.

There are many great bookmarking extensions that help me be more productive, but my favorite is Save to Pocket. I love the ability to save and categorize articles and sites for future reference. https://t.co/maHvZb2x6k#DitchBook
I will second this one!!! This is an important one to have if you show YouTube vids to your class #DitchBook
Chatting from my phone so I can’t remember all the ones I use.
A3: I go back to scribble for that. Scrible will allow you and/or your students to annotate any web page .Once the permalink is created and shared among collaborators, will keep all notes, sort them, & notify you when you are on a web page you alreadyannotated. #ditchbook
A3 Read&Write Extension - read aloud, highlights, and more. Super awesome for reading comprehension. Another that looks promising is Insert Learning:
Insert questions and content into and webpage https://t.co/y7VcMOMHK3#DitchBook
A3: Sadly being 1:1 iPad extensions don’t work on our devices however the do have access from the computer I know the save to drive comes in handy for citations etc. #DitchBook
A2: here's crazy one. Screencastify to grade student work - record WHILE grading it, explaining all the while why I am giving the marks and feedback that I am giving! #DitchBook
I'm a total newbie just starting out and have heard maybe 1 of these extensions before. Anyone know a blogger who has a list of these with descriptions or should I research them separately?. #Ditchbook#cantstopwontstop
A3: Also, Cast for Education is a great way to collaborate and share ideas throughout the class. Ss can cast to the main display! #DitchBookhttps://t.co/bs6zw5tTE2
Can you tell me more about Kami? I've considered requesting it to be pushed out, but was just curious about practicality and benefit for students. #DitchBook
A3 Gotta say I love the Open Side by Side Extension - I use it all the time with Google Classroom and my students use it to split their screen too - Thx @alicekeeler#ditchbook
I remember Kasey and you talking about it, I tried it, and either I didn't work it right or I just lost it but I am curious like what's an example? #ditchbook

We are introducing a new feature "Summary Notes" soon, after speaking to 100s of students who use ReClipped frequently. It will act like a scribble pad to quickly write your thoughts while watching videos (we will add the timestamps) #edtech#DitchBook#eLearning#education
I'll definitely be giving the blog a read. This chat and blog will serve as a great introduction to the wide world of extensions. I can't wait to find ones to use in my future classroom! #Ditchbook
I love that! How is that different than opening two tabs and just splitting the screen? I guess that's what I'm missing...does that make sense? #ditchbook
Can you tell me more about Kami? I've considered requesting it to be pushed out, but was just curious about practicality and benefit for students. #DitchBook
So, say Ss are researching. One tab has an online resource/article. Another has their slide deck for notes, pics, synthesizing of info. You use Tab Scissors to split the screens and they automagically appear side-by-side. Like this. It's beautiful. #DitchBook
A3: my Ss Love using Bitmoji when making BookSnaps! In the past I have used screencastify as enrichment for Ss to create a video teaching a specific skill and they really enjoyed that! #DitchBook
A3: Here are some of our favorite extensions for students. I think the G Suite Training Extension is very helpful for students who need help with Google tools https://t.co/tbsf9BQavq#ditchbook
A4- I used to use Goobric to score writing. It came up this week in Google Academy and I heard their is a Student Goobric for reflection. Sounds coll! #ditchbook sorry if it's been mentioned been in and out w/ sick kid.
Sounds like @jmattmiller has a blog post coming up for tomorrow! Go tohttp://ditchthattextbook.com/2015/03/26/free-ebook-101-practical-ways-to-ditch-that-textbook/ click on the ebook and sign up for his blog. #ditchbook

A4: I also love PageRuler https://t.co/bRm7LGv9nx . I've been doing a lot ith Google Draw and publishing in diff places, and it saves me the time to figure our pixel sizes #ditchbook
When you split the screen, you're doing it manually, yes? Tab Scissors does it perfectly for you. Tab Glue then glues them back with all tabs in a row. #DitchBook
A4: I am a bit late to the chat, so I apologize if this has been mentioned, but I love the features of Momentum for new tabs https://t.co/CUNKpgwuTF#ditchbook
I have used this and it is pretty cool! However, it has been found as the culprit to slow down Chrome on all of my machines! Very weird. So, I keep it disabled until I really need it. #DitchBook
A4: Boomerang Calendar will link cross check text from an email to a linked Google Calendar to see if you're available...also really easy to add events from emails straight to Calendar! #DitchBookhttps://t.co/Mj4kRUOPI3
You will love our "Summary Notes" scribble pad feature if you've ever used videonot.es ... it is going to be much more versatile and will work seamlessly on your favourite platforms for learning from videos #DitchBook#edtechchat
Absolutely love the Vidyard Extension.
Makes it so easy for teachers and students to share a video (creates a link & ability to send to YouTube). So helpful.
https://t.co/0HnUViphbb#DitchBook
If you're a math teacher and haven't checked out Equatio, you must!
Easily create mathematical equations, formulas and quizzes. Intuitively type or handwrite, with no tricky math code to learn.
https://t.co/yddxDrdnIV#DitchBook
They are! Makes essay grading MUCH easier and efficient. Plus, I'm not carrying around a major stack of papers in my bag when I grade either! #DitchBook
