Welcome to #ESPEchat. Tonight we will be talking about reflecting on our practice. Please answer Q# with A#. Introduce yourself, where you teach, and which grades.
A1) One of my goals was to branch out more from the classroom and try the presenting role...have done a few small presentations and the #physedsummit from #espechat as well as advocate more for #PhysEd
Love @Seesaw I like to use it to allow my Ss to self asses. Allowing them to see theirselves doing skill (and reflecting) has been so valuable! #ESPEchat#physed
A1: Biggest goal was to balance my first year of grad school with my PE classes...still develop new activities, etc. Goal complete for semester 1! #espechat
A2: Incorporating more tech. I had aerobics ss make Gifs of exercises for different muscles groups and send them to me. Going to post them on a website so they can see themselves. #espechat
A2: Becoming trauma sensitive. It opened my eyes to what my Ss go through just to get to school. Makes me rethink all of my decisions, from disipline to lesson plans. It's my 25 min/day to make Ss feel better about themselves. #physed#espechat
A2 My big goal this year was to use @Seesaw. finally getting that going I now need to establish a routine with it so the ss can use it without much loss of class time.
A3: I have my Ss take the final exam on day 1 and the last day to show how much they have learned. They also keep a process journal and write a reflection at the end of the semester. #espechat
Thanks @baugha I just may do that. I tried to go to big with video and presentations but was not successful because of district permissions. Have since toned it down to exit ??âs #Espechat
A3 In regards to my ss, they use @plickers to self-assess how they are doing with certain skills/unit/team. Another one of my goals this year, getting ss in the swing of self-assessing themselves or reflecting on the focus and their progression #espechat
A3) I am always trying to set a reach new goals. If those goals are reached, how can I make the lesson/activity/day/etc. better? Maybe that is changing a small aspect of the lesson or modifying the lesson plan itself. #espechat
A3: This may seem strange, but going through my tweets, FB page, @Seesaw posts help. It allows me to see if my lesson was effective, etc. Often watch videos over and over to look for diff things. #physed#espechat
A3 As a teacher I use the data I receive from my ss and reflect daily in my planner to revisit with some ss or challenge other ss on another day or check in to see whatâs up with a ss if they arenât working to their potential #espechat
A3) Write down goals at beginning of year. Periodically look at those goals to see if I need to add or modify. Really helps me to keep moving in the right direction. #ESPEchat
A4: Participation in certain activities. I thought they would love circuit training and it did not go well. Lackluster effort on the Ss part. #espechat
A4 gave students a report card to evaluate ME. Got a lot of surprising responses from Ss. It made me realize I am not giving enough attention to all students. #espechat
A4 Self-assessment in itself hasnât been going well, tend to get inflated answers but I had a feeling that was going to happen because the ss havenât been exposed to it, especially in the #physed setting at my site. Need to keep practicing! #espechat
Itâs stemming from having to redirect the SAME students over and over. I donât get to everyone because of it. Itâs sad but Iâm aware now and trying to remedy it. #espechat
A4 Something that also hasnât been going well is my interaction with my ss athletes who are putting their sport first and go through the motions in #physed . For some reason I donât seem to be getting through to those particular ss #espechat
A4: I attempted to have my Ss do "zones of regulation". It has been tough to use having so many kids for only 25 min. But I know it's valuable and I am determined to figure it out. #espechat
Just today I talked to my athletes that I admire and give me their best effort and tell them that Iâm using them as my models and examples as well as throwing in my own experiences as a single sport athlete from ms through college and beyond #espechat
Same here! So tough to have the entire class buy in when student athletes brag that they donât have to do something because they play sports. #espechat
A5) Started using more tech stuff such as videos and clips on my screen. I use iMovie for introducing activities and I have been experimenting with @ChatterPixIt Students seem to enjoy all of these things! #espechat
A5 One thing that has gone well this year as opposed to last year is establishing routines which seems rather basicâbut sometimes you have to go back to the beginning especially when you teach a new grade level/s #espechat
Yep, we started with how to start the rope, then swinging over the person, then doing ONE jump. When all the ppl in your group have a jump, they check in with me to get the next challenge (5 jumps). Helps me see who is where so much better too. #espechat
A5 Another (+) this year has been giving the âwhyâ where you get those moments when you catch ss thinking and making the âsheâs got a pointâ expression on their face! #espechat
A5 Something recent that has been going on in my base games unit is the focus on communication as ss find themselves with diff skill sets. Some whom have never played a base game and know nothing about running bases or throwing to bases #espechat
A6 One new thing Iâm trying this year when we get back from winter break actually is implementing. Excited and terrified is more of my feelings about this endeavor lol #espechat
A6) I would like to try making some gifs for certain activities in my class. I would like to make them so that other classes can use them as well. #physedfamily#espechat
