The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.
Hello all! Mark from Franklin Township, Technology Integration coach for secondary teachers, jumping into the conversation for a while! #inelearn#flashforward
Hello! Michelle here and ready for #INeLearn! @INeLearn messaged a lot of folks-let me know if you got an invite as a result! We have so many districts using eLearning Days this month!
Don't forget to use the Q1, R1 format for our chat. To save characters, we will use eDays in place of eLearning Days. Be sure to include the #INeLearn hashtag. First Q coming up!
R1 We have had one practice eLearning Day. Many felt it was successful, but the discussion has been dropped. Recent snow days have started the chatter again. #INeLearn
We are discussing them currently and gathering data for them. Would love to hear how other schools are planning them! And pd with staff to explain expectations! #INeLearn
R1: my eDay experience is as a dad of an 8th grader. Meanwhile, @sollymscience & her crew of tech coaches are dotting i's & crossing t's to roll them out in my district. #inelearn
A1: So my previous district sent packets home with K - 1 students. Everyone else used the LMS. We sent out possible assignments based on weather predictions. #inelearn
R1: Have them. Many teachers love them. Students... not so much. I think many of us are still trying to find the balance between too much and not enough work for students to complete. #INeLearn
R1: I think it is important for Ts to have content on the LMS and be used to it before initiating eLearning days. That could be a struggle for those districts not there yet. #INeLearn

Yes, but K students weren't trusted to take iPads home at that point. Last I heard, they are doing professional development time for these days with no problem. #INeLearn
We have had a practice day. We are approved to use them, and the high school is ready to go. Elementary hasn't had the discussions necessary. Lets hope they get on that! #INeLearn@AmyAmyorr@NESSquick13@ebethcave

R2: can look at data on work completion in relation to that of a normal day. Surveys sent to Ss and Ps on ease of use of the LMS. Survey Ts on work time upfront vs ease of use during the day of initiation. #INeLearn
For reals. I spent 5-6 supervising and motivating my youngest on his eDay back on 1/4. Part of that was him dragging his feet a bit, but realistically we were looking at a full school day worth of work. Probably spent the equivalent of an instructional day. #INeLearn
#INeLearn A2 During the eDay, I send out an email at noon to check progress and goods/bads. Will follow up with a Google Form to get feedback. I tell our Ts I want honest feedback. Only way to get better improving the interaction, instruction and the day.
R2: we didn't collect data the first time, it was right before xmas break. I would think we would put a gform out on the schools FB page. What questions to ask tho?

I believe that if you audit your class over several fays, you will get a sense of what amount of time is actually used for instruction, redirection, assessment, etc. This would help you design a better virtual/eDay #INeLearn
Absolutely. I believe that most schools look for work to be completed within 3 days of the day off. If Ss or Ts are lost and can’t get that completed, it defeats the purpose. #INeLearn
R2: we must remember that 6 HRs of instruction for Ss ain’t gonna happen on those days. Activities, webquests, hyperdocs, etc are great, but... what do we expect our Ss to get as far as normal homework is a good measure for amount given on eLearning days. #INeLearn
is it amount or quality work? I'm good with smaller bits as long as the response is authentic. I used @Flipgrid to gather responses after they read an article on genetic advances. #INeLearn@AllenGrable

In Daniel @DanielPink's new book, When, one of his strategies is to do a premortem-I blogged a little about it. A great tactic for planning eDays #inelearn
Sitting back and soaking up R2s. Feedback from students, parents, teachers, all three? I feel like for all of us this is a work in progress. I'm at a 1:1 school, I'd love to leverage collaboration on an eDay assignment. How realistic is that? #inelearn
R3: teacher leaders and admin must look at this and adjust. Treat it the same way as asssessment feedback we use every day. How can we adjust and make better?? #INeLearn
R1: we are talking about having them. Would love then to cut down on makeup days but I am leery about how much to assign and accessibility for our students #INeLearn
Reflect: do Ss receive 6 complete instructional hours at school? Probably not. Factor in recesses, study halls, lunch, etc. Same should go at home. #INeLearn

#INeLearn A3 Share with the Principals and Superintendent. We will have an upcoming cabinet meeting and a chance to discuss. Challenge is always the Elementary. Middle-HS Ss tend to have no problems.
This is the biggest thing I'm wrestling with. My son's a unicorn in that he has a math teacher at home to help him with eDay work. What about my students who don't have their parent/guardian sitting w/them all day? #INeLearn
It is hard for us to separate ourselves as Ps sometimes. Our own kiddos do get a leg up w/ eLearning Day assistance. We have to remember, this isn't the norm for all kids. Good thought. #INeLearn

Is your district/corp exploring eLearning days? I’d suggest following tonight’s #inelearn chat. Lots of valuable insight and feedback from experienced educators.
Totally filing this thought away - thinking about crowdsourcing eDay curation ideas for a sesh at @SSeLearn in June. This sounds like a good foundational concept. #INeLearn

I love how we approached it in K-1. We made eBooks w/ @bookcreatorapp. All of their content (video, workmats, audio instructions from us) were in one place. No internet needed! #INeLearn

R4: Our biggest negative is trying to stay on pace to complete lessons before first part of ISTEP. This will be different next year with iLearn. Our MS math curr. doesn't allow for much flexibility with its pacing. #INeLearn
A4: Positives: Teachers get to think outside the box (Which we encouraged), students get to work at their own pace, in their own order. Negatives: Ss with no Internet, Ss not wanting to work, Some confusion on what to do #INeLearn
Oooo, that's cool. Grab a snap of a cool math thing (outside or inside - snow piling up, thermometer reading, whatever), stick it on a padlet or submit thru Canvas for discussion when we get back together. Nice. #INeLearn

R4: One of the major positives is that it pushes some of our teachers out of their comfort zones and they have to try "something new and different" for some lessons. We had Ts try @Flipgrid and @googlearts yesterday! #INeLearn
R4: positives—Ss can be creative in presenting understanding of content through many digital means. Negative—kids w/o access to internet access. #INeLearn
A quick thought on edays. It’s such a foreign idea for everyone that hasn’t even taken any type of online class for college.
Ss aren’t use to learning being delivered that way. Ts don’t know how to prepare effective lessons. Many Ps just want kids at school!!!#INeLearn
R4: Looking at it from a parent perspective, Jan 4 eDay was rough. First day back from semester break, no kids had books home, rollout for posting assignments a little wonky. Next time two weeks later was much better. #inelearn
to help our staff we made eLearning Day hyperdoc templates for the whole school. then during PD showed them how to modify them for their lesson. Then all students saw the same format from every teacher and less confusion. #INeLearn
R5: We told our teachers to be flexible, especially with our non Internet Ss. We told them that they knew their Ss and to take that into account. #INeLearn
R5 As a K T, I obviously show a lot more grace with work done at home. However, the key is to make the eLearning no different than a F2F. It should already be natural to them. #INeLearn
It shouldn't, but thinking a lot about pre-readers. We have to make sure we are giving them the same benefits they receive in class such as audio instructions. #INeLearn
R5 I think most of us are more forgiving. I know I tend to give assignments that are somewhat open-ended, with no right or wrong answer. But that's pretty standard practice for an art teacher 😊 Easier for students to be successful and encourages abstract thought. #INeLearn
This is a great building block and can even help with establishing a culture of self directed learning (And isn't that our overall goal regardless of place of learning?) #INeLearn
There was a big thing with LaPorte area folks after they got buried with lake effect - snow totals in LP and surrounding areas. I think I actually dumped it in Excel & made a graph. Thought about making that some kind of Desmos activity for class. #INeLearn
Some cool tools to use are the Chrome extension #Loom where you have text and have you reading with them. @voicethread or @Flipgrid could be utilized also. #INeLearn

Last year when we did it it was a planned edays after a snow day. We knew it was coming so everything was downloaded by Ss & everything was required to work w/o internet. #INeLearn

We are rural, internet isn't even an option at some houses without a hotspot that people don't purchase. Trying to figure out home internet is a huge hurdle for us. #INeLearn
MLK & Pres day were days off or planned makeup days via elearning. We missed a day of school before one of those days so we then knew our eday was coming. Make sense? #INeLearn
R6: I know @EducateIN suggested 3 days about 4 yrs ago. Gives Ss enough time to do work IF they need help and/or don’t have WiFi access at home. They can finish at school and get the help needed. #INeLearn
A6: Ugh. We have struggled with this. We give them however many days will get us to our delayed start Wed. I feel it limits the Ts on what they can assign. I'm pushing 1:1, just like if they were absent. #INeLearn
R6: We give the students 3 regular school days to complete work. We need to update our wording on elearning policy to say "3 regular schools days for those WITHOUT internet or devices." Some kids take advantage. #INeLearn
R7 It should look personalized to them. Let them explore their space in a new way. Connect abstract to real world. Use the full capabilities of their device. #INeLearn
R7: An elearning day should be a day where students are not inundated with mountains of busy work. Give Ss authentic learning tasks that they can answer (or create) without needing parents' help. #INeLearn
R7: Ss should not be sitting in front of a screen all day or struggling. Remember that if they struggle, they will shut down. It should be something they are familiar with. Recommend that Ss and Ts practice an eLearning day at school, together! #INeLearn
R7: IMO, students should have work that enhances what they have learned, to expand on previous knowledge. I tell my teachers, do something that isn't feasible in the classroom. Stretch their thinking #INeLearn
R7: Let students be creative with the items around their home. Let them "show off" their ability to do "school work" but with non-school tools. #INeLearn
R7: I wouldn’t introduce a new topic UNLESS my Ss are used to flipped classroom models. Find a really great way to assess learning that is engaging. #INeLearn

@north_posey_art How amazing would this be instead of early dismissal days? We could have kids doing real work and we could have more time for in depth PD. #INeLearn

I do a lot of online work with my Ss. I don’t think it would be difficult for my Ss. Other classes and Ss would struggle. It is how savvy Ss are and how engaging Ts make their curriculum via tech tools. #INeLearn
R8: What I learned tonight: Procedures have to be in place for Ss & Ts before the first snowflake falls. A practice day built into the schedule in the fall, maybe on an early-release day. Solid LMS is key. Bag that worksheet you were gonna assign. #inelearn
WUR: Just like everything else, there are pros and cons to eLearnig days. There is work up front that must be done. Finding the right amount of work or content is essential by Ts. Providing feedback and having office hrs are essential. #INeLearn
R8: Feedback from all stakeholders. Who has Internet and who doesn't. Practice. We had a blast at the elem. The kids wore their pj's and brought pillows. A "True eLearning Day" #INeLearn
