A2: I usually come up with ideas from talking with people, things I’ve read about here on Twitter, or sometimes things I wish I had known about when I was in the classroom. I’ve tried in the past to use surveys too. #TECHtalkGA #gwinchat
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator May 21 @ 9:07 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A2: Not sure I'm the best one to answer this (LOL), but I come up with ideas based on what my Ts ask for, or what I see as common Qs here on Twitter! Interested to see what others say, though...
  • AJacksonRHES May 21 @ 9:07 PM EDT
Q2: As a tech specialist newbie, I am learning to assess the teachers for ideas of what they want to learn. If they aren't interested, it's time wasted. #TECHtalkGA
  • WCSTechDiva May 21 @ 9:07 PM EDT

A2 I have had the opportunity to present a few times and a lot of the ideas come from teacher needs and things that have worked in my own classroom. #TECHtalkGA
  • MsWillipedia May 21 @ 9:08 PM EDT
I forgot to add for A1 that I love these folks because they're dynamic, lifelong learners who are focused on the greater mission of helping educators be their best. They're also really funny with great fashion sense. 👍👌 #TECHtalkGA
  • bamaguy1218 May 21 @ 9:08 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A2: Ideas are like boiling liquid. It may stew in the pot a long time before it just bubbles up and out. Sometimes it's only you that can say what needs to be said. In those cases the topic finds you.
  • hgsisk May 21 @ 9:08 PM EDT
A2: I listen to teachers and try and meet their needs when deciding on a topic. What is it they want to learn more about? #TECHtalkGA
  • ClintWinter May 21 @ 9:08 PM EDT
A2: Continued I like to present on things that have gone somewhat well in my district or something that has failed and that I can say, "What you don't want to do" or things people say, "hey you should present on that" #TECHtalkGA

A2: I look for sessions I would want to attend or ones that fit a hole I see that isn't being addressed in edu or EdTech. #TECHtalkGA
  • ClintWinter May 21 @ 9:09 PM EDT
A2: Or something that I'm really passionate about like ole SAMR and anything about integrating Google #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator May 21 @ 9:10 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA Q3: Share 1-2 tips for writing a successful presentation application.
  • MsWillipedia May 21 @ 9:10 PM EDT
Ahhh! I'm so glad you were mentioned! I love you as a presenter too Carl! Your brain breaks session at #Gaetc17 was my favorite! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @mrhooker, @MmeBurgess, @lesliefisher, @crafty184
  • iamryanwhite May 21 @ 9:11 PM EDT
A3 #TECHtalkGA Know your audience and the theme. @GaETConf is all about "Level Up" this year. It is also a teacher heavy conference with a narrow #edtech leadership focus. Keep that in mind when writing your topic.
  • Media_Barber May 21 @ 9:11 PM EDT
A3. Writing a successful presentation application needs a) good title and b) great opening sentence. Get the reader's INTEREST. #TECHtalkGA
  • iamryanwhite May 21 @ 9:11 PM EDT
A3 #TECHtalkGA I have to add this... For the last 2 years at @GaETConf, everything @GoogleForEdu has been packed out.
  • MsWillipedia May 21 @ 9:12 PM EDT
This is a brilliant lifelong learning tactic Ryan. I love it!! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @iamryanwhite
  • hgsisk May 21 @ 9:12 PM EDT
A3: Who is your intended audience, is it sit and get or hands on, what is the learning outcome. Most importantly how will they benefit? #TECHtalkGA
  • Angela_LaPlante May 21 @ 9:12 PM EDT
A2 My favorite presentations are when I share ideas & solutions based on teacher needs. Like @iamryanwhite I also present on new stuff so that I have to learn it. (Much more work- and scarier!) #TECHtalkGA
  • ClintWinter May 21 @ 9:12 PM EDT
A3: Make sure your topic is relevant and when you design it make sure you yourself would sit through it for an hour #TECHtalkGA
  • RhondaStroud9 May 21 @ 9:12 PM EDT
A3: I just did this so I hope I did it right! But, just like the audience, make the hook..hookable #TECHtalkGA #gwinchat
  • MsCrainium May 21 @ 9:13 PM EDT
A3: I find that knowing who you are presenting to, what are they looking for. I have found that teachers love to see examples and see how easy it is for them to develop or recreate for themselves. #TECHtalkGA
  • RhondaStroud9 May 21 @ 9:13 PM EDT
    Good to know! #techtalkga #gwinchat
    In reply to @iamryanwhite, @GaETConf
  • MsWillipedia May 21 @ 9:14 PM EDT
A3: Tips for writing a successful proposal- 1) Choose a unique, yet aligned topic 2) Be explicit in your description 3) Illustrate what participant will learn 4) Be sure to address requested points by conference #TECHtalkGA
  • iamryanwhite May 21 @ 9:14 PM EDT
Great point. Just like if students are bored with a lesson, we need to ensure that teachers are actively engaged. #TECHtalkGA
    • ClintWinter May 21 @ 9:12 PM EDT
A3: Make sure your topic is relevant and when you design it make sure you yourself would sit through it for an hour #TECHtalkGA
  • MsWillipedia May 21 @ 9:14 PM EDT
Knowing your audience is 🔑! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MsCrainium
  • ClintWinter May 21 @ 9:15 PM EDT
A3: And remember that some people frown on T-shirt Cannons #techtalkga #johncougarmellenchat
  • WCSTechDiva May 21 @ 9:15 PM EDT
A3: I try to create presentation that would appeal to me if I were the attendee. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator May 21 @ 9:15 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A3: I'm still trying to get the hang of this, so I'm not necessarily the best one to learn from. 1. Be funny + informative. No one wants to go to a dry, boring lecture. Make it clear that you won't do that. 2. Be real. Show that you know the CR + the edtech.
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator May 21 @ 9:16 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA Q4: What can you learn from presentation submissions that are NOT accepted?
  • CatFlippen May 21 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A3 #TECHtalkGA: Do your research! Provide the narrative for WHY you want to share what you want to share. Don't make it just another "Shiny Tool" presentation. Make it meaningful. Make it applicable to many audiences, from teacher to admin to parent.
  • MsWillipedia May 21 @ 9:16 PM EDT
EXACTLY! You've gotta present on something you'd find interesting in a way you and others will find engaging. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @iamryanwhite
  • Media_Barber May 21 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A3b. Make sure you have activity for the audience. Engage with them. #TECHtalkGA
  • MsWillipedia May 21 @ 9:17 PM EDT
    Now, I want a t-shirt cannon. 🤔 #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @ClintWinter
  • Media_Barber May 21 @ 9:17 PM EDT
Yes! Do the research! Even if you thin you know it - look and see what others are doing. Bring it all together. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @CatFlippen
  • ClintWinter May 21 @ 9:17 PM EDT
A4: Never hurts to send an email and say "Hey, I didn't get in no worries just curious as to what I could have done better" #TECHtalkGA
  • hgsisk May 21 @ 9:18 PM EDT
A4: Was it not clear? Maybe you need to be more detailed and recommend if it is for a beginner or more advanced. There is nothing like being bored in a session or overwhelmed. #TECHtalkGA
  • iamryanwhite May 21 @ 9:18 PM EDT
A4 #TECHtalkGA Be specific in your application. - What will attendees learn? - Include keywords - Ensure your message is concise. don't overwhelm the application judges - have fun titles, especially with Google Sheets. Eh, @CatFlippen?
  • MsWillipedia May 21 @ 9:19 PM EDT
A4: Some proposals aren't a good fit and should be reworked and shares elsewhere OR that topic might be really popular. I look for areas where I can grow as a proposal writer. Typically the ones I'm least passionate don't make the cut. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MmeBurgess
  • RhondaStroud9 May 21 @ 9:20 PM EDT
A4: Just like any missed target...readjust your sights, polish your instrument, and seek direction from others as well as the feedback rec’d from a local presentation. #TECHtalkGA #gwinchat
  • Media_Barber May 21 @ 9:20 PM EDT
A4. Failed applications may need work or may not have been the right subject for the conference. Review, consider, maybe save for another occasion, may delete and start fresh. Learn from failure. #TECHtalkGA
  • MsCrainium May 21 @ 9:20 PM EDT
A4 Since I am in the early stages of presenting this is great ahead of the curve feedback and tips for me. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator May 21 @ 9:20 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A4: This is something that I wish confs of all kinds were better at. FULL DISCLOSURE: I'm a pro at being rejected & very rarely do I receive any feedback about why. I then try to go into the conf w/an open mind & evaluate my proposal over the ones chosen.
  • CatFlippen May 21 @ 9:20 PM EDT
A4 #TECHtalkGA: In comparison to what was accepted, look to see how it ties to applicable competencies and whether or not your submission was actually meaty content versus simple fluff, i.e. an idea PLUS implementation, implications, ideal audiences. Also, takeaways!
  • ClintWinter May 21 @ 9:21 PM EDT
A4 Part B: Also, you can't let it get you down. If you get knocked down you get up again you're never going to keep me down. #techtalkga #chumbawumba #johncougarmellenchat
  • iamryanwhite May 21 @ 9:21 PM EDT
    #hashtagassist #TECHtalkGA
    • bamaguy1218 May 21 @ 9:11 PM EDT
Q3: I have only two tips. 1. Make it fun. 2. Make it fun. Ts are like Ss. Don't bore them.
  • Angela_LaPlante May 21 @ 9:21 PM EDT
A4 - I ask myself where I missed the mark. Check the theme, check the standards, check the audience.... #TECHtalkGA
  • collinshill May 21 @ 9:22 PM EDT
Sorry for joining so late! MaryEllen from @collinshill in #gcps #TECHtalkGA
  • MsWillipedia May 21 @ 9:23 PM EDT
Yes!!! I have also found that you HAVE to outline key participant takeaways or how they'll be able to immediately apply what they will learn. That's the whole point of conferences anyway. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @CatFlippen
  • bamaguy1218 May 21 @ 9:23 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A4: Science is all about learning from failure. Failure happens far more often than success. The bright scientist doesn't stop investigating. They keep on. #learnfromthescientist
  • bamaguy1218 May 21 @ 9:23 PM EDT
    Thanks, Ryan #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @iamryanwhite
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator May 21 @ 9:24 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA Q5: Once accepted, what do you do to make sure people actually come to your session?
  • CatFlippen May 21 @ 9:24 PM EDT
Oh, definitely, have SOME fun with the titles! I mean, come on... Google Sheets and Gsuite scream for puns. Puns are hilarious, geeky, and much more catchy than "60 Apps in 60 Seconds!" or fake-clickbait like "You Won't Believe What You Can Do With [Blah]!" #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @iamryanwhite
  • JoeMarquez70 May 21 @ 9:25 PM EDT
Can't wait to come back to Georgia to hangout with you Hollie and my East coast tech peeps! #TECHtalkGA @elawson1977 @RupBoysDad
    • hgsisk May 21 @ 9:06 PM EDT
A1 Hollie Sisk Instructional Services Coord at GA Southern COE Savannah. I love @JoeMarquez70 passion and excitement that shines through from Keynote to concurrent session. (And it is not just his flashy digital belt buckle.) #TECHtalkGA
  • hgsisk May 21 @ 9:25 PM EDT
A5: I stand outside and greet people, play some music before starting, and smile. #TECHtalkGA
  • iamryanwhite May 21 @ 9:25 PM EDT
If you can Google it, don't present on it unless you bring a unique angle. #TECHtalkGA

A5 Tweet about it, talk it up, market, market, market, #TECHtalkGA
  • RhondaStroud9 May 21 @ 9:26 PM EDT
    A5: BRIBERY!! 😂😂 #TECHtalkGA #gwinchat
  • ClintWinter May 21 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A5: I play this song over and over I have to turn people away https://t.co/xc3mKnBUqC #TECHtalkGA
  • maryelenderwest May 21 @ 9:26 PM EDT
A3: Designate an audience and make the audience clear in your proposal. Is it for novice? intermediate? or advanced users? What is the presentation style? Be clear #TECHtalkGA
  • iamryanwhite May 21 @ 9:27 PM EDT
A5 #TECHtalkGA She speaks truth! Twitter is HUGE at conferences! Even making a simple graphic and having it scheduled to Tweet out throughout the conference can draw more people.
  • bamaguy1218 May 21 @ 9:27 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A5: Stating the obvious here, but a great presentation without great packaging may never be seen. Put a bow on your presentation with a relevant topic, catchy title, and a knock-out description.
  • CatFlippen May 21 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A5 #TECHtalkGA: Tweet, talk, and TEASE!
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator May 21 @ 9:28 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A5: At the confs that I've actually been accepted at 😂, I promote on Twitter (using the conference hashtag!), and use that space to put out more info about the session than the summary might allow. Re: #GaETC18: note that summaries are now only 350 CHARACTERS!
  • MsWillipedia May 21 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A5: Ooh, I'm actually not the best at this other than writing witty titles and clear, concise descriptions. Near future Nadia pledges to do better about promotion here on the Twitters and the 'gram. #TECHtalkGA
  • Media_Barber May 21 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A5. Tweet, talk, pictures, tease AND play really fun loud music while waiting to start - it brings in the curious in the hallway! #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator May 21 @ 9:28 PM EDT
OOH I need to use this if my Twiiter session is accepted!! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @CatFlippen
  • maryelenderwest May 21 @ 9:29 PM EDT
A5: Tweet! But more important than getting people to come is to meet the needs of those who do come, whether the number is large or small! Be ok with the number who come and give it your all! #TECHtalkGA
  • iamryanwhite May 21 @ 9:29 PM EDT
The ones who need to hear what you have to say will attend. Don't worry about numbers! #TECHtalkGA
    • maryelenderwest May 21 @ 9:29 PM EDT

"30-second Elevator Speech" to help teacher-librarians (or edtech coaches) explain & justify their jobs. Join me on 6/11 at @glma Summer Institute or 6/29 at @alaannual #TECHtalkGA
  • MsWillipedia May 21 @ 9:31 PM EDT
Cutesy, rapid-fire, or lazy titles do irk me because I then wonder how engaging that presenter will be. 60 apps? So what. Are you actually showing me how I'm going to be able to *meaningfully* use them? #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @CatFlippen, @iamryanwhite
  • CatFlippen May 21 @ 9:31 PM EDT
Excellent point, Ryan! I often find the sessions/presentations that draw a smaller group end up being some of the most meaningful for the participants (and often myself as well). #TECHTalkGA
