I apply to present on things I don't know, so I am forced to learn and own them.

#TECHtalkGA A2: Ideas are like boiling liquid. It may stew in the pot a long time before it just bubbles up and out. Sometimes it's only you that can say what needs to be said. In those cases the topic finds you.

Know your audience and the theme.
@GaETConf is all about "Level Up" this year. It is also a teacher heavy conference with a narrow #edtech leadership focus. Keep that in mind when writing your topic.
A2 My favorite presentations are when I share ideas & solutions based on teacher needs. Like @iamryanwhite I also present on new stuff so that I have to learn it. (Much more work- and scarier!) #TECHtalkGA
A3: I find that knowing who you are presenting to, what are they looking for. I have found that teachers love to see examples and see how easy it is for them to develop or recreate for themselves. #TECHtalkGA
A3: Tips for writing a successful proposal-
1) Choose a unique, yet aligned topic
2) Be explicit in your description
3) Illustrate what participant will learn
4) Be sure to address requested points by conference

I'm still trying to get the hang of this, so I'm not necessarily the best one to learn from.
1. Be funny + informative.
No one wants to go to a dry, boring lecture. Make it clear that you won't do that.
2. Be real.
Show that you know the CR + the edtech.

Do your research! Provide the narrative for WHY you want to share what you want to share. Don't make it just another "Shiny Tool" presentation. Make it meaningful. Make it applicable to many audiences, from teacher to admin to parent.
A4: Was it not clear? Maybe you need to be more detailed and recommend if it is for a beginner or more advanced. There is nothing like being bored in a session or overwhelmed. #TECHtalkGA

Be specific in your application.
- What will attendees learn?
- Include keywords
- Ensure your message is concise. don't overwhelm the application judges
- have fun titles, especially with Google Sheets. Eh, @CatFlippen?
A4: Some proposals aren't a good fit and should be reworked and shares elsewhere OR that topic might be really popular. I look for areas where I can grow as a proposal writer. Typically the ones I'm least passionate don't make the cut.

This is something that I wish confs of all kinds were better at.
FULL DISCLOSURE: I'm a pro at being rejected & very rarely do I receive any feedback about why.
I then try to go into the conf w/an open mind & evaluate my proposal over the ones chosen.

In comparison to what was accepted, look to see how it ties to applicable competencies and whether or not your submission was actually meaty content versus simple fluff, i.e. an idea PLUS implementation, implications, ideal audiences. Also, takeaways!
Yes!!! I have also found that you HAVE to outline key participant takeaways or how they'll be able to immediately apply what they will learn. That's the whole point of conferences anyway.

Twitter is HUGE at conferences! Even making a simple graphic and having it scheduled to Tweet out throughout the conference can draw more people.
#TECHtalkGA A5: Stating the obvious here, but a great presentation without great packaging may never be seen. Put a bow on your presentation with a relevant topic, catchy title, and a knock-out description.

At the confs that I've actually been accepted at 😂, I promote on Twitter (using the conference hashtag!), and use that space to put out more info about the session than the summary might allow.
Re: #GaETC18: note that summaries are now only 350 CHARACTERS!
