TODAY’S TOPIC: How are you using Social Media in
Don’t forget to respond to our Q's by using A: and !
Q1. Let’s start off with introductions! Share your name, position, and location!
A1. Leslie Holliday, KS, Membership Coordinator for AASPA
A1: Jon Bartelt, Supt, Bloomingdale SD 13, IL
A1. Jon Mock, Director of HR, School City of Hobart, IN
Q2. Are you currently using social media in your processes? What platforms?
A2: Not as an active recruitment tool, but Twitter allows us to share our story through the hashtag
A2. Not currently, but I would love to start. Hoping to learn some tips tonight.
A2.2: Don't know enough about the LinkedIn tool, but my son seems to believe it could be the talent search social media king.
Love the idea of using a school # Tag
Q3. Do you have one you have more success w/ than others/why?
A2.3: Almost seems blasphemous to be evoking LinkedIn on a Twitter chat. Is there a social media minister I can confess to?
A2: We are using Social Media and have numerous accounts, which is hard to manage sometimes. Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn
No, I think they do way different things and can be used together
A3: Twitter allows for daily posts of classroom experiences and topics of importance from the D13 staff - a window to our schools
A3: For recruitment I think I have heard most success from Twitter, then LinkedIn and not so much Facebook
A3. Aside from the HR component, my district has a huge social media following. Most interaction is on Facebook
So you are using a for your district and anyone can use it?
Q4. Are you using an individual Twitter account or district account w/ separate branding for recruiting? What are the +/-?
A3.2 Twitter has a greater following with our S's who might end up future teachers, so that's an area for us to pursue
Yes, the hashtag is open and visitors can see what my great staff is doing each day.
A4: My account for Twitter is used mostly for professional purposes, but I will occasionally slip out a family tweet
A4: I just did a talk in KY this week about this topic and suggest an HR Dept get their own Twitter Account for posting jobs
A4. Contemplating the diff between the "district" account and a "HR" account. Seems like 2 audiences: 1 parents/S's, 2 future E's
A4.2: Positives: I share authentic thoughts, perspectives, that can be professional and a little humorous at times...
A4: The account can be controlled by the HR Director and then put on all branding items
Q5. Are you using analytics or tracking the success of your social media on recruitment
A4.3: Negatives: you can reach out w/ this tool, but unless someone "likes" or "retweets", its difficult 2 get immediate feedback
Indeed/That's why it has to go w/ your branding https://t.co/0P9fpITwtJ
A4.3: Negatives: you can reach out w/ this tool, but unless someone "likes" or "retweets", its difficult 2 get immediate feedback
A5: Used to, but I found the statistics disappointing - decided then that I would enjoy Twitter in my own way
Thank you for making me feel good about not liking the analytics - I think I am doing it wrong Ha Ha
A5. Yes! Every time someone joins I claim it as a personal for one of my tweets!
Q6. Is your Social Media part of a branding strategy or strategic plan for your
A5. Facebook Pages seems to have some good analytics, but other platforms aren't as powerful, makes good analysis difficult
A6: This is hard and sometimes $ but a strategy and little branding go along way in recruitment
The enjoyment in social media can be the social part, the sharing, and the learning.
A6: Yes, my email contains my Twitter handle, it is on my business cards (20th Century kid at heart), + the # does well by itself
A6: I suggest taking a look at Tulsa's Branding could totally hook you up w/ the information
Oh that is PERFECT! I love that you have it on your business card
Q7. Do you have a social media policy in your district?
A7: Social media use is part of technology guidelines that is part of onboarding process in D13.
Q8. Any final words of wisdom you’d like to provide on today’s topic?

A7. Yes we have a social medial policy that is part of our RUP. We also have policy regarding public use of our media
