Good morning Its an overcast fall morning in Maryland which seems perfect for watching football & today
A1 Some days, in 3rd grade, the whole day can be Improv!

I'll be adding to many of my tweets bc I'm in the NCEA contest. This chat is perfect way to end our PD week.
Good morning from Pennsylvania
A1: I've used it many times. Great way to connect past events into modern experiences. Ss use creativity and arts!
Looks great! Have an awesome day!
can you give us a definition of Improv?
A1: I'm closer to the "move the trash can 5 feet" stage of improv, so no classroom use. Way outside of my current skills.
An improv topic is a great chance for lurkers to join in! Let us know you're here. :)
A1: but as a teacher, I've used it! Always need to create a way to refocus the class or create a brain break!
A1 I think we all do at times.
A1. I would like to try it with vocab. Make slides inferring a word, then have Ss use it in a creative way. Spice up life!
A1: never formally with students but I'm excited to learn more!
Just popping in a for a few.... Glad to see many Ohio people today!
Improv can be anything from making up skits on spot to saying something "punny" - only definer for me is spoken not written
Kathi from AZ, JH Spanish teacher, joining a little late!
I think improv is a skill you can teach even when it's not your specialty.
good early morning to you!
Q2: How can our students benefit from practicing improv?
Improv is great because it shows Ss that you can build off mistakes and use them as teaching moments! Be creative!
Attending @ Our Lady of Good Counsel High School
I did some last week while teaching my students about residential school for definitely sparked empathy
Always do esp. when sharing a parable w my Ss. I model asking Jesus questions then ask my Ss to do same.
A2 empathy piece for a classroom
A2: sometimes Ss do better with less prep time. Ss love sharing stories and improv can reduce anxiety...mistakes are ok!
A2: in a language class, we make up stories in Spanish and act it out as we go...engaging, memorable
I agree. Any skill can be taught with time and patience.
I think Jesus the Teacher probably used this strategy when teaching the crowds as well as his disciples.
A2 Give Ss a chance to feel comfortable when acting something out.
A2: Improv can foster creativity, empathy, a deeper DOK, and spice up a room
looks great! Have a wonderful day.
A2: for me improv is a major anxiety source so I want to use it w my Ss so they'll be comfortable w it.
It shows Ss that it's ok to make mistakes and to have fun.
Q2: It can make the current learning relevant to Ss' lives.
I teach a public speaking class. I have Ss speaking to small groups in 1st five minutes. No time to get nervous.
A2: Improv is great for social skills and helps Ss get comfortable speaking to a group which is so important.
A2 I have Ss team up and pick 1 of the 10 commandments and present w/o words. Then the class has to guess the commandment
A2 Helps with public speaking
Speaking in front of people is hard. Giving Ss opportunities to get comfortable with it young is valuable
A2 It shows Ss it's ok to make mistakes and to have fun.
A2: With a positive classroom environment and relationships, Improv can be very successful.
Brain Break coming up - use BB1 instead of A1
I taught a public speaking class too. Best speeches were the improv! Ss used creativity so much! Great lesson!
so true! Catholic schools have opportunities for public speaking at early age, reading at Mass!
BB1: What is your favorite fall scent?
BB1 Answer, Dried, crunchy leaves underfoot!

Q3: What improv resources are available to schools?

A3: Cleveland has many great theatre groups that visit schools! Nothing wrong with connecting arts to classrooms!
A3: I've also have been in theatre for 28 years...so I use my experiences to teach Ss improv skills!
I am bowing out! It is time for little girls and volleyball

I did my moderator homework. :)
Yes! In Spanish novice speakers can act while others speak since comprehension comes first!
Q4: What's one way you can incorporate improve in your classroom or school this week?
Improv not improve! https://t.co/asfWGmcgeR
Q4: What's one way you can incorporate improve in your classroom or school this week?
A4: for u.s. history review, I'm going to give groups diff. events to act out in front of the class.
A4: I'll be doing some prep lessons for a field trip this Friday, so Ss will need to improvise their thoughts and actions!
A4: One of my fave brain breaks is milling to music where Ss speak to a partner. I'll change it up; have them speak to group
A4 Students can act out a part from the book they are reading as a book talk/review.
A4: take a story we have already created and do it in slo-mo, then rewind, then fast forward
Loving on improv in the classroom this morning
A4: but even in interactions with Ss you can use improv. Ss may struggle but a moment of surprise to help them is needed.
Ss take an historical figure & improv answers to other Ss questions.
thanks! pulled out some great resources for us too.
now that would be interesting and a lot of fun!
A4 Use it to act out a difficult piece of literature or to act out a historical event.
CCD was the worst. I had to go on Saturday mornings, and that's when all of the good cartoons were on. I'm a Satanist now.
