Good for you spending time on your personal quadrant of life and seeking Balance. That is SO important to be able to pour into others! #BalanceLAP#tlap
A1-share your vulnerability & failures, it gives others permission to share theirs. When we bring light to them, that’s when we see they are not as big as we believed them to be! #tlap
A1: First is an environment without judgment, one where individuality and creativity is highly appreciated. Ts are encouraged to be transparent and take risks in encouraging Ss to realize they, too, are always learning as well as growing. #tlap
A1: DANG starting strong, aren't we, @Joe_Sanfelippo?! - ASK Ts their story! Highlight a faculty member each week/month/biweekly through a blog that shares that Ts story - cowrite it with the T! #tlap#naesp18
A1: We need to start by getting in classrooms and recognizing/sharing teachers strengths and then sharing the great things happening for our students so all can know the incredible things we see each day! #tlap
A1. Create an environment where everyone has a voice and everyone shares their story! I share mine all the time with teachers, students and parents. #TLAP
A1: Start staff meetings with celebrations , be present and model what you expect, allow staff to fail forward, and create a collaborative community #tlap#NAESP18
A1 Have a school culture that is built upon relationship between stakeholders When all parties are building together sharing your story becomes the norm #tlap
You need to bring excitement and enthusiasm! If you don’t tell your story someone else will, and will it be the story you want told? Create a culture that gives our story willingly! Have Feeds running live! It’ll catch 🔥 #TLAP
A1: The more you share your own story, the more you learn that others have similar stories to share. We are all unique but connected in amazing ways. Encourage others by being willing to share freely in an effort to connect. #tlap
A1 Model that REALness! I know it's what I always say, but I believe when others see us being...
Relatable
Exposing Vulnerability

A1 - Leaders must create a collaborative culture that is built on trust and centered around a common vision for the school. Authentic relationships are 🔑 #tlap
#DBC#tlap@BethHouf@JayBilly2 Hi!Andrea Paulakovich from sunny 😎 Kansas City! Instructional Coach functioning as the Assistant Director of Learning Services. Excited to walk away with great ideas from #tlap!
A1: We have to model telling our own story & support Ts as they step out and share theirs! By creating an environment that celebrates ALL, Ts are more willing to share!! Be vulnerable, be transparent, be REAL! #tlap
A1: We need to support, nurture and encourage our teachers. Believe in them and be there when they take risks. Talk openly about student achievement. Stay positive and help them maximize their potential. #tlap
A1: Teachers, just like students, will only share their own personal story in an environment where they feel safe and not judged. Leaders have to create this environment or nothing significant will be shared. #tlap
A1 Start the conversation. Have them share in meetings and celebrate their stories. Let them know that our families and the community deserves to hear it too! #tlap
A1: DANG starting strong, aren't we, @Joe_Sanfelippo?! - ASK Ts their story! Highlight a faculty member each week/month/biweekly through a blog that shares that Ts story - cowrite it with the T! #tlap#naesp18
A1: It does start at the top, with culture, with why, and also by empowering Ts with the knowledge that their voice and story matter and should be shared. #tlap
A1 I think it is first important to give teachers the time to do so. We can get bogged down with curriculum and requirements. Taking a step back to ask staff for their story shows they are cared about too. #tlap
A1: Create small learning community & school hashtags, encourage staff to share out what's happening! Highlight in weekly @smore newsletter! Shout out the awesome any chance you get...staff meetings, f2f, emails. Create an environment that staff feels safe to take leaps. #tlap
A1: You believe in them when no one else does! You give them a chance to spread their wings and fly, knowing that they have support should they fall. Moreover, you let them know that falling is OK. #tlap
A1: Respect, relationships, honesty, trust, say NO as a last resort, allow Ts to innovate and treat them professionally. Oh, and make small talk with them. Very important. #tlap
A1: Start small by getting to know their stories and passions. Move on to highlighting them and encourage them to share with others (including students and families) on their own! #TLAP
A1 As Ts, we need to encourage each other: take risks, give feedback, & help each other up when we fall. Supporting each other makes it easier to share the story. #tlap
A1: I think we have to find our teachers strengths first. Much like anyone, they want to feel safe to start from their comfort zone. Know them ... go from there. #tlap#NAESP18
A1: Creating an atmosphere that supports teachers in taking risks and trying new ideas in the classroom empowers them to collaborate and talk about successes and failures. Open reflection with collaboration helps the entire school grow. We learn from & motivate each other. #tlap
Q2: Embracing diversity of thought is important for personal and professional growth. How does your PLN stretch and challenge your thinking? - By Lynell Powell @drjoy77#tlap@BethHouf@dbc_inc#NAESP18
Great idea! Along the same lines, I would love to start a podcast with stories of different stakeholders. My concern is the time to do the editing. Thinking of trying to enlist Ss nd Ts in the project. #tlap
#tlap. A1By letting Ts explore their passions & teach Ss in different ways to let them be motivated engaged & innovative.Trusting Ts .Give them freedom not restrictions in their c/rms. An ex P told me the freedom is not so much in what you tch (curriculum) but in how you tch it

A2: Not being afraid to disagree, problem solve w/others, and be open to compromise are keys to success in many of my PLN's. If we all shared the same ideas, thoughts, and feelings we would never be challenged and be very boring - I don't want cookie cutter Ss or peers! #TLAP
A3 We held mini town halls and asked Ss about our current attendance policies. Very interesting to hear their views! As a result, proposed changes for next year. #tlap

A4- you notice their NEEDS & find resources to help meet those needs. Shoes, hairbrush, mom-hugger, High-five giver- toothpaste, toothbrush- jacket in the winter, belt all year. U care for the little human in front of you as they are your own because you really are to some.#tlap
A3: this may seem trivial, but on a couple of occasions, it was clear, Ss needed a break. I asked if they needed a nap. The amount of Yes’s were heard! Nap time for the 9th graders. They were ever thankful. #tlap
A3 When its time to learn a new tool or resource, I dont show the students anything. they explore - and students can share with the class what they have learned from exploration. Ss also keep a list of tips and tricks electronically in either a google doc or padlet #tlap
A4: We visited all 186 of our upcoming 6th graders! We only have three years with them..we have to maximize the opportunities to build relationships! #tlap#NAESP18
A4: Talking to them. What do they like? How are they doing? Saying hi, by name, when I pass them in the hallway. Eye-contact and a smile go a long way. #tlap
A4 Caring and Kindness is not about the grand gestures, it is about the little things. Smile, laugh, engage in small chat. I make it a point to say hello to Ss in the hall whether they are in my class or not. They are ALL ours. #tlap
A4 Know their names and their stories, greet them every day, birthday selfies with the principal, recognize and know something about them, ask them how they are and let them know we care! @TLStewart@MrsBFieldsCCPS#tlap

A4: I know all student names, connect w/ them in conversation at lunch and playing 4square on the playground. I'll sit down next to a student reading in the classroom to just chat about their book. I pride myself in getting to know all of our students! #tlap
A4: I truly believe all means all. I try to show that I care by genuinely listening and modeling fairness. I want to do more to connect with individual students, and not just the ones brought to the office. #tlap
A4: My motto has long been “every kid in my class/school is someone’s entire world”. I treat them them as such. That shows up mostly in support. I see every kid in my class outside of school at least 2x and 14 years...NEVER yelled at a kid! #tlap
A3: One of my fav ways to unleash St voice was through our Masterchef Challenges.
Teams prepare a dish using a method learned (no recipe) and then turn it into something mind blowing for an authentic audience of judges. #tlap#xplap
A4 Above everything- educators must KNOW their kids. We can’t make informed decisions w/o that foundational knowledge that can only come from relationships that are sincere and genuine . #tlap#NAESP18
A4: Every kid knows that I care about them because I take the time to listen! Whether they are in my classroom or not, they are always welcome. They know my door is always open for them! Moreover, during recess, I make it a point to go and see what they are doing! :) #tlap
A4: I'm the first (and only) classroom coming off of the bus line. I try to learn as many names of students as I can. K's with name tags the first week helps a lot! #tlap
A4: Love this @PrincipalGarden Bc I'm media, I actually get to have "all kids as MY kids" - I teach every student in the school. I have an open door policy and they know they can come to me anytime. I make sure to greet them by name & am in the halls at class changes. #tlap
#tlap A4 We're going to a house model next year in order to build stronger relationships between students and teachers. We piloted some house meetings last year, and the kids and teachers loved it!
A4 By making sure I’m visible in all parts of the building at all parts of the day. I empower my teachers to do the same. Always talking to all kids not just their class. #TLAP
A4: Although I am not an admin, I serve a pretty unique role being the MS Tech Club advisor at a K-8 school. I take the time to interact with ALL kids, always greeting them and being willing to listen. I am known for being unique because my students promote our classroom. #tlap
A4: I greet each and every one of the children, our superheroes, as if I've not seen them in forever, as if they're my favorite, as if they are my very own. Every. Morning. It's how I roll; it's what they deserve. Every child, every day. {#ukulele optional} #tlap#NAESP18

#tlap Week 1-learn their name & begin using their name. Make a connection 1-minute check ins. Greet them not with a simple hello & smile but ask them about their lives, notice something new to share -most importantly-love them-be genuine- this is undeniable -this creates a family
Q4: Our Moms As Principals motto is "All Kids Are Our Kids." How do model this in your school? How do you make sure that every student knows that you care about each and every one of them?
By Liz Garden @PrincipalGarden#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
#tlap#NAESP2018 A2 my PLN is made up of diverse people who bring insight to recognizing how we are better together when we are different. I welcome the reminder!!
A4: We are a PV Family. It is important that every student, parent, family member and staff member know that we work together for every student, everyday, whatever it takes. #TLAP#culturize
A4: Interact with as many Ss as possible throughout the day: smile, wink, wave, laugh. Have high expectations for all students and holding them to those expectations in and out of the classroom #TLAP
Q4: Our Moms As Principals motto is "All Kids Are Our Kids." How do model this in your school? How do you make sure that every student knows that you care about each and every one of them?
By Liz Garden @PrincipalGarden#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
A4: Take the time to learn their story. Greet Ss, have lunch together, go for a walk, and be intentional about conversations. Notice when they are't there and let them know we notice. #tlap#NAESP18
A4: It starts before they even get to me. I want to meet as many younger siblings as I can, so that they are psyched when they get up to middle school. #tlap
A4: My favorite activity to do is... "If you really knew me, you'd know that..." At first, Ss are very surface level, but by the end of this year this one goes deep and creates awesome connections. #tlap
Q4: Our Moms As Principals motto is "All Kids Are Our Kids." How do model this in your school? How do you make sure that every student knows that you care about each and every one of them?
By Liz Garden @PrincipalGarden#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
A4: Always bewilling to engage and listen to everything they have to say....this will take care of the big stuff! Builds trust and relationships to help with the BIG Middle School stuff! #tlap
A4 (part 2)- We are focusing on building relationships this year (with students, ourselves, our colleagues and the community)- can't wait to see how much we grow! Starting w/ our WHY and going from there! #tlap#naesp18
A4: I greet every student at the door, and I talk with every student at least twice before they leave my room. Whether it’s asking them how they are doing and/or giving them intentional feedback. #tlap
A1- Create an environment of trust. Teachers shouldn't feel that they have to ask permission every time they believe in something. Sometimes teachers know what is BEST for their students. #tlap
#tlap a4 Take the tough ones, spend the time preview lessons for days coming with just them, let them feel good about being the expert, works well with coding or technology like @LEGO_Education Wedos.
A4: eye contact, a smile, talk to them about what interests them, being aware of interactions... If you are showing heart, you will see it in their eyes. #tlap#NAESP18
#tlap A4 I tch at small sch, low decile & know all Ss & their families. Always listen & there to talk. Some Ss come to me with problems & I try & sort them/get them /families help. A Mum approach but also a caring one. Buy heaps of stuff for Ss too eg stationery so not w/out
A4: Another huge thing is letting my students I love them and respect them for the journeys they are on. What one sees from me is what (s)he receives-- honesty, respect, caring with a genuine heart. I do my best to maintain consistency and be transparent/present. #tlap
A4 part 2- make sure kids know they are the priority! Schools operate because of them... not because of the adults. I love asking kids how we can make school better. They have a different perspective & we need that!#tlap#NAESP18
Q5: How do you handle the “Pinterest pressure” of education? How do you find the balance between sharing and feeling intimidated?
From Amber Teamann @8Amber8#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
YES! Don't want until they are "your kids" for them to be YOUR kids! Developing relationships early gives you more time to really grab their hearts. #tlap
A4: I use the 2x10 strategy to connect one on one with each of my Ss to learn more about them! I leaving special notes & attending extra curricular activities! I want ALL of my Ss to know I love & support them both in & out of school! #tlap
A4: Every student Google Form Formative ends w/ a Q about the S. What do I not know about you? Why is your family awesome? Where would u go in the world if I paid for a week vaca? I email 2 kids per class later in the day about it #tlap
A4: To create strong relationships with our students a relationship with parents is imperative.
To win a student's heart we have to care for the ones they care about -- their parents!
#tlap
A4 I tell them! We take time to have discussions about their lives, interests, and history. This is more than making quick references it is a culture of acceptance & encouragement built together from day 1 #tlap
Q4: Our Moms As Principals motto is "All Kids Are Our Kids." How do model this in your school? How do you make sure that every student knows that you care about each and every one of them?
By Liz Garden @PrincipalGarden#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
A4 Greet Ss in morning, engage in convos during breakfast/lunch. I always have snacks in my office for late arrivals or Ss staying late in case they need it. #tlap
A4. Have sharing time with all Ss at the beginning while they eat their snacks, they can tell stories, details of events, sports, activities, things about their families, etc. Learn all names. #tlap
A5: I love working with educators who are motivated and want to do what is best for children- once I think I "know them" I share what connects and helps them achieve their goals! #tlap#naesp18
Q4: Our Moms As Principals motto is "All Kids Are Our Kids." How do model this in your school? How do you make sure that every student knows that you care about each and every one of them?
By Liz Garden @PrincipalGarden#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
A5: To be honest....sometimes I just have to take a break from Pinterest/Facebook/Twitter/etc. When I'm overwhelmed, I've learned it's ok to step back. #balancelap#tlap#naesp18
“We need to be the ones providing them with opportunities to struggle. We need to be helping them handle th failures and setbacks and telling them we are proud of them for being risk-takers” “Learn like A Pirate” is a must read!!! #TLAP#LLAP@PaulSolarz
A2: I love to chat with people from different grade levels, different areas, etc... however, I feel that I need to expand my PLN! I LOVE learning from fellow educators! #tlap
Got stuck on the phone and in the middle of kiddos’ bedtime tonight, but I am still lurking and reading the responses now. Absolutely love the flow of ideas and inspiration. Keep it up, everybody! #tlap
#tlap A3: Empower teachers to identify their strengths and areas for growth. Encourage teachers to stretch their thinking. Ask teachers to think about @gcouros question, "What is best for this learner?" Begin with this question and you will unleash student voice.
A5: This is kind of hard because I was Scholastic's grades 3-5 Teacher Advisor during the 08-09 school year. I remember teaching before Pinterest. I used to be intimidated to extents but now realize I can just be myself (a "Creative")... and be respected for it. #tlap
A4b: I've also been to quite a few Lemonade Stands this summer. That's the BEST; seeing my kids in the summertime in their element, doing what kids do best, entrepreneurship. #tlap#NAESP18
#tlap A5 Something I would love to see teachers try is not decorating their room before the year starts. Leave room for student work. Let them leave their mark.
A5 I focus on my Why. I didn't get into teaching to do cutesy things. I want to make learning matter to my Ss. I want them to know that they matter! #TLAP
Q5: How do you handle the “Pinterest pressure” of education? How do you find the balance between sharing and feeling intimidated?
From Amber Teamann @8Amber8#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
Absolutely! Simply saying "Hello (student name - pronounced correctly), I'm SO glad you're here today!"... you've got to mean it from your heart or it sounds fake to them, which is a bigger turn-off! #tlap#naesp18
A4: We spend a lot of time on relationship building at the beginning and foster an environment of collaborative and immersive learning. Here's a blog about how I kick off the year.
https://t.co/GG5MiTI7Vj
I also try to make my classroom feel safe and inviting for all kids. #tlap
A5: I'm very good at helping other people find balance but have to work very hard to find balance myself. I try to focus on one thing I want to try or implement. Culture takes care of the rest. #culture#tlap
A5 I used to try and emulate different Ts early in my career. It felt forced and unnatural. I will never have a cute, perfectly appointed classroom. My desk will always be a mess and I never have perfect hair I am ok with that. The kids love that they see the real me. #tlap
A5- be confident in YOU! Your skin! Just do YOU! Take what works for you and allow others to be successful in their thing! We are not all meant to be everything! Allow each other to be different! #tlap
A4) It means talking to ss in the hall, outside, going to events outside of school and school ones. It is knowing the families and making time to meet siblings, future Ss, and helping any Ss you see. I love working across grade levels so I can make connections with more Ss #tlap
A5 I like using it as a push to do more, but not overwhelm. The focus is on the Ss, and not all of those "pins" will work for this years class. Find what works, pin the rest. #tlap
Flipgrid and Recap have been awesome for giving ALL students voice. Students also took full ownership in their book talks and literacy blogs—sharing their voices with one another to cultivate a true community of readers and writers. #tlap
If you spend time comparing yourself to others, you will go insane! I learned that early on and remind myself frequently. If you are always doing what’s best for kids then you’re rocking it! #tlap#NAESP18
A4: relationships. Relationships. Relationship. It starts the moment you interact whether in the hall or at the door. Know them by name or acknowledge them with a greeting, a high five, a fist-bump, a hug. #tlap
A5: Don’t be intimidated by anything or anyone. If you are doing the best you can, shout it from the rooftops! Taking risks & failing is tough, but real. People totally dig, REAL! #tlap#NAESP18#LeadLap
A5: I've never been one to shy away from sharing and although I'd LOVE to learn how to do fancy lettering on my anchor charts we create them as a class so they're "ours"-that helps keep the Pinterest-pressure off. #tlap
#tlap. A5 I've become stronger & don't let myself feel or get intimidated. Luckily I now have a supportive P that lets me tch and as hes happy with the results from the Ss doesn't interfere just supports.
A4: We live this very well at #momauguinproud. When I see a 3rd gr T reading to a K St at bus duty - Ts ask to attend the 5th gr grad... Things like this happen every day. We tell them we love them and miss them and can't wait for them to return on Mondays! #tlap
A5: I try not to compare myself to others. This is important and as @BethHouf reminded us..don't get so caught up in the number of "likes." #NAESP18#TLAP
A5a: Oh Em Gee @8Amber8 - this is something I've struggled with, even now with #DBC50Summer! There will always be someone "better"... but there will be WAY more people who NEED your example. So share, and share freely! #tlap#naesp18
A5: We live in a world where sharing is essential! If I don't share, how will I ever get feedback? If I don't feedback, how will I improve my teaching craft? If I can't improve my teaching craft, what does that mean for my students? I don't have time to be scared! Share! #tlap
A5. My mindset is that a project or lesson is living and that it is constantly being edited, tweaked and polished. I share all my projects and lessons with the idea that others will improve them. #tlap
A5 this is something I’m just now working on myself. I like to put together a list of things I have interest I. And then narrow that list down to a couple things at a time. I love to learn so I have to slow myself down at times #TLAP
A5: When you put yourself out there, you have to get over yourself. If your purpose is to truly help people and not to just brag, others will see this. Just be you!! #tlap
A5: My motto is “Just Do You”!! I focus on being the best version of myself!! When I work on being better than I was yesterday, it doesn’t matter what others are doing! I tell my story & celebrate the growth I’ve made! #tlap
A5- be confident in YOU! Your skin! Just do YOU! Take what works for you and allow others to be successful in their thing! We are not all meant to be everything! Allow each other to be different! #tlap
A5: We also cannot necessarily put other people on pedestals and be star-struck when we see other educators. I know, it sounds weird. We're all human... and we can NOT be intimidated because there are so many beautiful ideas we can embrace from amazing educators out there. #tlap
A5: I stay off of pinterest for the most part (this is shocking to some)...I get a lot of ideas from my PLN on Twitter and I implement all or part of those ideas when they work for me and my Ss. Other ideas I "save for later" #TLAP
Q5: How do you handle the “Pinterest pressure” of education? How do you find the balance between sharing and feeling intimidated?
From Amber Teamann @8Amber8#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
A4 Being Relatable. Letting the Ss/Ts know they can Approach you and you're going to welcome them with open arms.
Also...
Vauling individuality

Yes! I'm grateful that when I started, there was no Pinterest, blogs, or enough of an internet yet to make me feel totally inadequate. It's hard enough; we don't need to be 'perfect'. #tlap
A5 Student driven classrooms are hard to find on Pinterest. At the beginning of the year, the boards should be blank, waiting for the kids to bring them to life! #tlap
A5b: If they already know, or do, what you're sharing - then great! It affirms others. If they don't know or do it, then you've taught them something. Your awesome is worth sharing! #tlap#naesp18
A4. Greet them by name every morning and every time you see them, compliment them, share in their success and failure, communicate with their parents often, and be visible and a doer in their learning environment. They know! #tlap
A5: I always worry that I overshare, but something from @TaraMartinEDU that I saw on Twitter validated just today that when we work hard, it's OKAY to shout it from the rooftops, to tell our truth, to share it with the world! #tlap#NAESP18
A5: I got over the intimidation factor of sharing pretty quick. If what I do can help someone, then I'm all about that. Besides, @burgessdave said so. #tlap
A5 “Pinterest Preasure” isn’t always conducive to authentic, S led environment. Have an idea...but let kids run with it and see how they make it their own. Share your success and struggle with other Ts...keep it real! #tlap
A5: I keep a notebook and jot great ideas and resources down. At the end of each grading period I choose one thing to try...keeps it manageable! #pinterestistherabbithole#tlap
YES!!! I love that video and use it whenever I'm encouraging others to share by tweeting, blogging, in person, etc. #tlap Obvious to you, but amazing to others!
A5 Remember your why & reason you go to school every day. It’s not for show; it’s impacting lives daily. Your students don’t remember the room; students remember the interactions. #tlap
A5: In all honesty, lately I've been feeling "Pirate Pressure" as I've been reading every LAP book I can and wanting to try all the things. I've had to step back, make a list (or 2-and they might be color coded) and remember... #tlap
A4: Conferring and active listening! They have to know that you truly see them and that you care. Little things add up: eye contact, greeting them every time you see them in the hall, truly listening when you ask how they're doing and following up later... #tlap
A4 Being Relatable. Letting the Ss/Ts know they can Approach you and you're going to welcome them with open arms.

A5:Pinterest &TPT doesn’t mean it is best practice! Don’t get sucked into that trap.Keep the learning outcome the focus ALWAYS. Let students have voice and choice in materials & create learning experiences-not just activities. Pinterest pretty doesn’t equal quality!#tlap#NAESP18
A5) I still struggle with my voice. I love my blog but sometimes I worry what people might think and if they think that I am not qualified or old enough to be sharing ideas. I have to silence the voice in my head and remember that if I can help 1 teacher it is worth it! #tlap
A4: 1 of my favorite ways to show I care is to write personal notes & shout outs to kids when they least expect it.Don't you love getting a note from a someone that pumps you up?Ss LOVE this too - especially w/my stick people art! It's personal and just between the 2 of us! #tlap
A5 “Pinterest Preasure” isn’t always conducive to authentic, S led environment. Have an idea...but let kids run with it and see how they make it their own. Share your success and struggle with other Ts...keep it real! #tlap
#tlap A4: Relationships FIRST! Be a person of INTEGRITY! Model what you expect. Show kids you are a person of your word. Attend their events. Get to know their likes/dislikes, their passions. @BethHouf
A5: it is a balancing act. I always try to stay in touch with my true North, which is why I wanted to be a teacher. It may sound strange but reflecting on that in the midst of it all helps me to keep perspective. #tlap#NAESP18
#tlap This took me awhile to get comfortable with. But for me, it is about sharing unconditionally. Putting my ideas out in the universe with no expectations-if I look for a response, need acknowledgement-I will only be disappointed. But if I simply blog & Tweet I feel liberated.
Q5: How do you handle the “Pinterest pressure” of education? How do you find the balance between sharing and feeling intimidated?
From Amber Teamann @8Amber8#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
A4- I constantly tell them I love them and that they can talk to me about anything. I also take selfies with them and hang them up around the room- just like I would with my own kids. #tlap
Q6: The purpose of a PLN is about sharing ideas. What is a new idea you learned from your PLN that has motivated, inspired, or intrigued you?
From Todd Schmidt @tsschmidty#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc

A4: call students by their names, always greet them with a smile, stop in your tracks to look them in the face.... then they’ll know you care... THEY MATTER! #TLAP
A5- be confident in YOU! Your skin! Just do YOU! Take what works for you and allow others to be successful in their thing! We are not all meant to be everything! Allow each other to be different! #tlap
So thankful to work with @gjfairchild! His humor, enthusiasm and professionalism are amazing... I especially enjoyed the moment he learned to insert a bitmoji into Google Slides... Game Changer:) #Culturize#323learns@TaraMartinEDU#Tlap#LeadLAP
A5: Try to find ways to incorporate other ideas into my own plans and lessons. I don’t want to replicate others exactly, but learn from what they are doing. #tlap
Q5: How do you handle the “Pinterest pressure” of education? How do you find the balance between sharing and feeling intimidated?
From Amber Teamann @8Amber8#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
A5: I LOVE sharing! Pressure doesn't get to me anymore and to each their own on what they want to create in their room. If one of my tiny seeds - a smile, a new idea, a great Twitter share - is planted today or a year from now, that is good enough for me. #stepforward#tlap
A5: Honestly I failed in this during the last year. I tried to become a teaching superstar because I had connected with some who were. The result was alienating friends, having a crappy school year, and looking for ways to leave the profession. This year focus is on kids! #tlap
A5: Blogging has become a way for me to reflect and I've grown so much from it. I've found it's therapeutic for me to write, and if even one person finds value in it, it's worth it. Some blogs are more difficult to post than others though....#tlap
A4: By building meaningful connections from the get go. One thing we started last year was to have our kids take a google form inventory. We are also going to be starting a HUGS (Hi, Update, Goodbye)program for our kiddos that need some mentoring. #TLAP
A to the MEN, Barbara!
It's ok to show our efforts! We work hard to make STUFF happen. It takes intentionality.
Share SHARE SHARE! We are all better for it.
#tlap#NAESP18
A5: I always worry that I overshare, but something from @TaraMartinEDU that I saw on Twitter validated just today that when we work hard, it's OKAY to shout it from the rooftops, to tell our truth, to share it with the world! #tlap#NAESP18
A5: Oh, Pinterest! It's hard to ignore such perfection, isn't it!!?? Once upon a time I had to put away Martha Stewart mag cuz I knew I couldn't be that anything. Same w/ Pinterest. It's what happens AT those desks and INSIDE those walls that matters most. #tlap
A5: It is rewarding to give back to our PLN by sharing. We find balance by sharing with focus on what we feel is our passion(s) & expertise, not by feeling the need to share all the breadth of what we are learning. #tlap
Q5: How do you handle the “Pinterest pressure” of education? How do you find the balance between sharing and feeling intimidated?
From Amber Teamann @8Amber8#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
It’s all part of building a strong community. We want to know mom, Dad, siblings, cousins, grandma. We want to know them all. We all have the same goal so we work on it together. #tlap
A5- My first year teaching I was so pressured by Pinterest !! I wanted to be perfect. However, now, I realize that student centered work and showing off their creativity is so much more important. BE YOU, thats awesome enough. #tlap
A6: This is so embarrassing, but seeing technology as an ingredient in the learning process-- and not doing something just because the tool is epic. Also, in seeing the value of Twitter chats as well as trying unique things like #booksnaps or Flipgrid challenges with kids. #tlap
Q4: Our Moms As Principals motto is "All Kids Are Our Kids." How do model this in your school? How do you make sure that every student knows that you care about each and every one of them?
By Liz Garden @PrincipalGarden#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
#Tlap Let them speak #LetStudentsSpeak - the strategies centered around asking the right questions, listening intently, being present and committed to change and creating an open dialogue with students- because they are the focus of everything we do as educators
Q6: The purpose of a PLN is about sharing ideas. What is a new idea you learned from your PLN that has motivated, inspired, or intrigued you?
From Todd Schmidt @tsschmidty#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
This is something I do in my classroom! I leave my wall blank because my students' first challenge is to bring in something that represents them to decorate the space and symbolize us being a unit for the year! #tlap
A6: Start each staff meeting with a book talk and give the book away to a staff member for professional resource or classroom library #loveoflit#NAESP18#tlap
A6: @hayes_melisa & @Hachen2nd have inspired me weekly through our PLN. Their enthusiasm & love for Ss is contagious. We've connected our classrooms via @Flipgrid & #mysteryskype. I cannot wait to learn and do more together! #tlap
Q6: The purpose of a PLN is about sharing ideas. What is a new idea you learned from your PLN that has motivated, inspired, or intrigued you?
From Todd Schmidt @tsschmidty#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
A6:Retweet amazing ideas, print quotes and send my AP @JohnCourtney89 late night texts with screenshots of my new crazy idea. The #tlap and #LeadLAP communities are my rocks! The learning here at #NAESP18 has been invaluable so far!
#tlap. Yes its also great to tell Ss you don't know the answer to their ? Lets find out together. My recent one was where does the oldest person in the world live? They googled the answer on their ipads and we found out so much more as you do.
A5: I don’t feel pressure from Pinterest because I rarely use it. I am not a fan of the “looking same turkey” during Thanksgiving time. I want my students to feel CREATIVE however they wish to outlet that amazing energy!! #tlap
A6: So many ideas...too many to list them all. One that I will be doing this summer is a video reading of a book to send to my incoming Ss before school starts. Thanks @j_hoffman22 for the inspiration at MassCUE! #TLAP

A6: I've been psyched to be connected to so many inspiring educators and most recently I met @Peterpanico on #startwithwhy and learned about the #sixwordstory! Using it to kick off PD in August! #tlap#naesp18
A5: I focus on my why. I’m an educator for Ss, and the cutesy Pinterest things don’t come first. Kids need to know they matter, and my relationship with them counts. #tlap#KidsDeserveIt
A6: Just one?!? Ahhh! Today's idea from my PLN was from a great conversation with @etuckie brainstorming about Back to School Staff Breakout Games and other beginning of the year ideas! Awesome to meet her! #tlap
A6: I’ve seen so many creative ways from awesome educators to have students SHARE their work using technology! I think it’s fascinating to have such young children use tech to not only be motivated and engaged, but be a part of the ever growing tech future!! #tlap
A6 @MsShelton5th is part of my #OKElem PLN...she’s invited me to attend a Whole Brain Teaching workshop that she’s leading this week! I ❤️ my PLN #tlap
A6: I honestly cannot begin to answer this question with only a Tweet. My #PLN is my lifeline - my personal life-alert button. I just have to just one for a minute and find inspiration everywhere! I love @CristinaDajero's inspiration posts every morn! #tlap#naesp18@tsschmidty
#tlap A5: Focus on each individual student. Each teacher. What do they need? The "fancy" stuff is pretty; however, we cannot forget the foundation. Substance first and "fancy" second. STOP. COLLABORATE. AND. LISTEN! #Realedu
A6: I just wrote my first blog post about this! Have to give a shout-out to the two people that have had the greatest impact on me to date. @tishrich and @HeckAwesome are gamification/GBL rock stars! If you aren't following them, you need to! https://t.co/PtGCJhD8Rd#tlap
A6 Twitter has freed from the feeling of being the lone fish swimming against the tide. I know other people are doing out of the box things, so I can too. #tlap is a powerful and uplifting family to hand with!
A5: I focus on my why. I’m an educator for Ss, and the cutesy Pinterest things don’t come first. Kids need to know they matter, and my relationship with them counts. #tlap#KidsDeserveIt
A6: There are too many to name in just one tweet....summer selfie challenge, summer reading books, tweet fairy, one word, and much more! I can't imagine how I survived before. I'm intrigued by the mobile principal concept. I need a desk on wheels! :) #tlap
A6: I have learned SO much from @PaulSolarz and his #LearnLAP fifth-grade leaders. One day I'm going to show up to experience Silent Day b/c I admire him and how he teaches leadership and self-reliance wholeheartedly! #tlap#NAESP18
#tlap#NAESP18 A6 I learn from my PLN everyday. The resources and ideas are amazing!! @kerszi is an incredible resource with ideas on infusing tech in the classroom. @emilyfranESL has banging ideas for language learning!
Hey #tlap crew, we are REALLY trying to build our #PLNPower for inspiring ideas & sharing what’s going on within our school community. After the chat if you could follow @CapeJeffTigers that would be amazing & much appreciated! Thanks in advance #PLN

A5 I'm a PInterest FAIL edu, but I do face intimidation.
For me...I just have to remind myself, I'm the only REAL me there is in this world. So, I need to BRING it!
Compete against myself.
My hero is me in 10 years. (Sounds egocentric but it's what we can control)
#tlap#NAESP18
A6: There have been so many great ideas that I have learned from this year that picking just one is difficult.I will be using hyperdocs this year, but the positive support from my pln's has been the biggest benefit for me and my kids. #tlap
A6: I am learning a ton this summer about technology I can use in the classroom. One idea I plan to use is stations with technology in high school to put more focus on student ownership and less focus on the whole class activities. #tlap
A6: Also: Realizing there are other people out there who are fine with "ditching the textbooks" #DitchBook. Also going back to 2009 (LOL), ditching my teacher's desk! I now have a built-in one in a science lab, but it's okay! I learned to circulate so much more 9 yrs. ago. #tlap
A6: love the power of the PLN! Where do I start with all of the learning that happens with every tweet, vox, message, conversation, etc?! #tlap#NAESP18#momsasprincipals
Q6: The purpose of a PLN is about sharing ideas. What is a new idea you learned from your PLN that has motivated, inspired, or intrigued you?
From Todd Schmidt @tsschmidty#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
A6: Among the largest group that I pushed away during my dark time were my friends @CaldwellElemen, but before that they had inspired me to do a lot more reaching out to families out of school. I even sent Xmas cards to every kid in class. during break. #tlap
A6: I learned about principal read alouds from @_AndyJacks& @GustafsonBrad & it has been a game changer! It allows me to model good read alouds, connect with my Ss in classrooms daily, & spread meaningful messages from the best picture books! #tlap#NAESP18#mvesteach
A6- I have just dove into Twitter and THAT alone has expanded my PLN and taught me so much!! I've quickly fallen in love with @Flipgrid ! Can't wait to use that in my classroom for daily check ins, (to hold the students accountable) book reports, etc... #tlap
A6: through my PLN I have learned some ideas to incorporate into my classroom - transforming my class, history madness wall, etc... Teachers on Twitter have great ideas! #tlap
#tlap a6 this PLN rocks, and The Academy Awards blog by @burgessdave inspired me to do the Einstein Choice Awards which has spread through other classrooms at my school Thank you!
A6 Continuing to move forward w/ standards based teaching, learning, assessing & grading. It's often an uphill battle & I couldn't do it w/out support of #pln#tlap
A5 - when I kept to myself and didn’t discuss ideas about professional development, it was numbing. Now I have learned soooo much from my peers that are driven to be better for kids. It is liberating. I have to model it for my Ts & Ss. #tlap
A6: I learned about #BookSnaps last year from @TaraMartinEDU. I share with teachers & now even my supervisor @JenFrancone has encouraged our entire department tweet out #BookSnaps for our book study. #tlap
Q6: The purpose of a PLN is about sharing ideas. What is a new idea you learned from your PLN that has motivated, inspired, or intrigued you?
From Todd Schmidt @tsschmidty#tlap#NAESP18@BethHouf@dbc_inc
A6 #tlap Superheroes fight crime in the comics, Heroes fight injustice in novels and Eduheroes fight for students, for progress and together are the voice of reason, forward-thinking and hope in the real world- one voice, diversity & open minds bring change
A5: A mentor of mine told me when I was a beginning teacher educators are creative thieves. You will steal ideas from others and put your own creative twist on someone else's idea or work - and that is ok, being an honest creative thief teacher is so pirate! #tlap
A6 Our PLN has loved sharing ideas on how to transform our classrooms and split the tasks. This year our team had Dr. Day, Construction, Restaurants, Mario, Safari, Superhero, Glow Day, Rube Goldberg, & Narnia. #tlap#bethewildcard
A6: I have learned SO much from @PaulSolarz and his #LearnLAP fifth-grade leaders. One day I'm going to show up to experience Silent Day b/c I admire him and how he teaches leadership and self-reliance wholeheartedly! #tlap#NAESP18
A5: You have to know your values and live them. Through sharing, we all grow. Own your unique perspective and share it to make our world a better place...but also remain open-minded to keep learning from others who are sharing, too. #tlap
A5: we all have unique teaching styles. Take what you can, modify, scrap, try something new. Cookie cutter does not fit teachers any more than it fits Ss. #tlap
A7: I read Restart with Gordon Korman recently. I highly recommend the book because it provides insight into social hierarchies to extents as well as anti-bullying. #tlap
A7: So fiction isn't happening right now for me... It's #DBC50Summer! I did love The Hate You Give; it showed me a completely different perspective! #tlap Nice question @TechNinjaTodd#SparksintheDark
#tlap. A6. How many exciting educators, ideas & books are out there in the world. Making connections is impt for your growth . Even going from NZ to Oz for a conference to make connections & new learning.
A6: Oh my...so many things I've learned from my PLF!
#gamification from @mrmatera transformed my teaching, #booksnaps from @TaraMartinEDU that I adapted into #foodsnaps in culinary.... Learn new things everyday from so many amazing peeps! #tlap
A6: Thanks to @gcouros Innovators Mindset book, I now have changed my vocabulary from a focus on merely engaging students, to empowering them. #tlap#immooc
A4) My book club is currently reading #tlap and #PedagogyofHope is our next read along with Fueled with Coffe and Love from @FBCALbook Looking for a few more to squeeze in before the new year starts. #ellchat
A7: I don't know about pushing my thinking but I'm finally reading the entire Harry Potter series to relate to my students more. I can't believe how popular that series still is! #tlap
A5. Love the ideas but make it my own- like The Voice when singers sing hits but they make it their own🌟 Most ideas come from my #pln ❤️to steal and share 💕#TLAP
A7: Before We Were Yours by, Lisa Wingate
Such an incredible read with some scary truth behind it. Made me think about how things go on that affect kids and people in general in ways most of us will never know or understand. #TLAP
A4- Greet students by their names every day. Get to know their interests and what they're involved in and ask about those things. Ask how their latest test/project went. #tlap#NAESP18#momsasprincipals
It was! Oh, it was! Our Ss are practically crying out for our help dealing with the pressures of middle school. They shared their soul with me in the survey. #tlap#naesp18
A5- I have become more comfortable being uncomfortable. Challenging myself to help our Ts & Ss is hard work, because it is so important. Love the daily Challenge! #tlap
