The Breakfast Club – #BFC530 – is a 15 minute, 1 question Twitter chat every weekday. We chat in 4 timezones Mon-Fri – 5:30am Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Times. The mission of BFC is to empower participants to make a difference in education by engaging in consistent reflective practice in a supportive community that inspires and challenges one another.
I get on a soapbox about this. Teachers NEED to reinvent the wheel. They need to plan from the ground up. Borrowing all materials from someone else or over prescribed curricula dont help you grow. #bfc530
Morning #bfc530 um TEACHERS! Other teacher are the best resource! I have a bunch of awesome ones in my school:
@VtheLearner@msbenack@mjwilk5 to name a few.

I look to my students first...what their likes, dislikes, and needs are, then to the weekly themed curriculum, and then let the creative process take place so I can creative appropriate multi sensory and engaging lessons for each student. #bfc530

I may use a framework or an approach that I didn’t create, but if I try to use something canned, “with fidelity” (gag), it doesn’t go well. I need to own it. #bfc530
Twitter search, pinterest, think of how I would use skill in real life and build upon that, read some practice problems from the book and expand to a full activity. #bfc530
My #PLF here and on Facebook and Instagram. Getting involved in projects connecting my kids & others around the world. Sometimes just going for a wander will free my brain so it can come up with ideas. #bfc530
Other teachers. But we can't use someone's plan just because it's out there and already "invented" I think teachers need to pull together, share their best stuff, and collectively reinvent the wheel. #bfc530

I love browsing Teachers Pay Teachers or Pinterest. There is always a great amount of new and fresh ideas. Or consulting other teachers to see what worked for them! #bfc530
My first curriculum was 7 pages long. each unit was just a page with the vocab, essential questions, and main content. I had to think through all of it. #bfc530

The pacing guide is just to help me stay on a somewhat correct time frame, so my plans change daily based off of reflection from the prior day. #bfc530
I totally agree! I’m lucky enough NOT to have a textbook/pacing guide- I make it all, plan it all, so I know my plans well when it’s time for execution! I’m the one that knows what’s best for my Ss!
Many teachers are creating materials off of PD books of @donalynbooks and @KyleneBeers and then selling and profiting off of their work. Those authors are going on TPT and demanding the work be taken down. #bfc530

I firmly believe that one of our greatest resources is our ability to be reflective practitioners...What are my S’s needs? What worked? Why? What didn’t work? Why? Next steps? #bfc530
Some of the best resources I use come from outside of teaching. Mostly psychological science but also social and natural sciences, the arts, activism, and popular culture. I’m always looking at new things and asking how they apply to the work my students are doing.

I was 21 at the time and figured, what do I really know? Ultimately, it was a significant component of me becoming a librarian (no binder there) #bfc530
#EdCmpOrange in Orlando is on Saturday. Even with #FETC coming next week, I’m really looking forward to the more organic conversations we will have on Saturday. Conferences are great, but spontaneous conversations can reach deeper. #bfc530
Not sure I agree. I think you can start by borrowing while you learn your style and what makes a good and bad lesson. Then you can create from ground up later as you learn more. #bfc530
At least that's been my path.

That is crazy. I can’t imagine doing that. I often wonder who these teacherpreneurs are and how they have the time. (But I love a pretty graphic organizer once in awhile.) #bfc530

100% agree with that.
I think we do naturally when we run out of others lessons or realise they don't quite meet our needs enough we start by tweaking them & eventually creating our own examples or versions too from scratch.

I have a hard time understanding the whole TPT thing because math Ts , especially secondary, share so much free via blogs, #mtbos, #iteachmath, #msmathchat etc.

Our curriculum is scripted so I add in videos, picture books, anything to bring the topic to life. Our topic this week is how weather affects us and Mother Nature added to the plans for me 😉 #bfc530
Bruce in NC - 2 hr delay. A: I teach 8th gr SS so i get a lot of latitude w/ what I teach. I use a great number of things I learn from #sschat on Monday’s. Have a terrific Thursday #bfc530 !

So, Judas Jeff Flake says Trump is a problem for calling out the lying hacks in the media? Awfully convenient how Flake left out the Obama administration’s targeting of the Associated Press and Fox News’ James Rosen.
Flake is an absolute disgrace.
Twitter (especially chats like this one😄), my husband (he is a teacher), Pinterest, Voxer, books that I have received for professional development, Facebook, blogs, etc. #bfc530
"He admitted to lying to Congress and was unremorseful and flippant about it. The integrity of our federal government is at stake because his behavior sets the standard for the entire intelligence community.” https://t.co/I34SwIrvVz

Oh my true. As a Busy single mom with 2 kids it's completely impossible to create everything by myself, brand new. I do when I can, and spend lots of hours planning, but it's sort of more important to make sure my kids have dinner as well. #bfc530
Trump Admin. cuts funding for special UN agency for special people---Palestinians who demand "right of return" to Israel.
Move could advance debate because frankly US taxpayers shouldn't be paying for UNRWA!

On @LouDobbs Tonight: @RepDeSantis "I think it would be absolutely hazardous for Democrats to block funding for our troops, for our military equipment simply because they are demanding benefits for illegal immigrants." #Dobbs
Ann Curry says she is "not surprised" by sexual harassment allegations against Matt Lauer. Curry and Lauer co-hosted hosted NBC's "Today" in 2012 https://t.co/8OT4jma2Bk
On @LouDobbs Tonight: @RepDeSantis "That same White House press corps which berated that doctor, which is always yelling about Trump, they were basically the palace guard for Barack Obama." #Dobbs
Morning, #bfc530. Key resource for lesson planning feels like curiosity. Less wheel reinvention, than puzzle remaking (jigsaw pieces analogous to students, standards). Can fit together in myriad/multiple ways. Creative colleagues down hall & online inspire me, reading too.
How meanspirted and partisan are House Democrats?
Everyone one on the congressional committee voted against honoring Nancy Reagan.
This, just down the road from Lady Bird Johnson park.
Also federal. Also in Virginia.
This is how hate filled and crazy the Democrats have become.
Wait, she really thinks people in education haven't been asking these questions? Does she even have a staff that does research or outreach? She continues to show her ignorance. #edchat#whatisschool#edcamp#bfc530
