I'm your moderator for today, Jeremy in Connecticut, USA. Tell us where you're tweeting from and wave to the rest of the #nt2t team: @shyj, @stephwurking, @hturk139 & @seni_bl.
Morning, #nt2t. I'm Brian. I teach middle-school students English in Colorado where we'll restart Monday. Farthest from home I've traveled? Geographically speaking -- & probably culturally/mentally/linguistically: Taiwan.
Top of the morning to all of you who are already here! New and old faces, so glad to have you. I'm co-founder and happy collaborator of the chat. #NT2T
A1 - I remember fondly the summer holidays when we had classical music workshops culminating in a grand performance in a local auditorium with distinguished guests. Learned so much about persistence and discipline. #NT2T
A1 We used to drive cross country from LA to Ky for the cousins to spend the summer together. We took our time seeing the states along the way. Great time of learning and bonding. #nt2t
A1 My dad decided to learn how to play tennis a couple summers ago, so I got in on it too. I have no desire to ever actually get competitive, but it was really great learning something new just for the sake of learning! And now I can play halfway decent tennis #nt2t
Good morning #NT2T I'm Ken from Boston, I was Ray Kurzweil's assistant at one time. The furthest I've been from home was a tour of our solar system via google.
A! - At least 100 years ago, my parents took the family to Colonial Williamsburg, VA. What I didn't know then is that I would be teaching 4th grade VA Studies! #nt2t

Hi everyone, I'm Praer! I'm a developmental biologist interested in what's going on in outreach/teaching :) Ithink mine's San Diego (I'm from Bangkok, Thailand) #nt2t
#nt2t learning is not connected to buildings. It happens everywhere. Real historical places are a wonderful opportunity to learn more about foreign history. #nt2t
Awesome! My aunt and uncle took my brother and me to colonial Williamsburg as teens. There's a lot I remember about that trip outside of Williamsburg! #nt2t
A2 - Parks, forests and mountain trails - places with lots of green - nothing beats nature. I am fortunate to live in the side of a city (Rio de Janeiro) that reunites beachfront and lush green areas. #NT2T
Hi joining in a little late. I'm Elizabeth a librarian from Guernsey A2 favourite places to learn are twitter, reading blogs, joining book discussions and reading for #PD#nt2t
I think of art museums, and we expose our own kids to a lot of exhibits. Also the outdoors -- we've discovered a lot simply in the woods and in a stream. #nt2t A2
A2 I love libraries! I’ve always been a patron, and I’ve even worked at a couple libraries. They’re so great and have many free activities over the summer for all ages! Museums are awesome too, and a lot of them have free days too so everyone can access them #nt2t
A2:
Museums, art galleries, exhibitions ... and sometimes I only need a quiet place to focus on what's really important.
Sometimes you need inspiration from outside and sometimes you find it inside yourself and the only thing you need is solitude. #nt2t
A2 This one is for you, Jeremy, throwback movie theaters. We’re going to see the Red Violin this week. The owner will be there with it for a Q&A. #nt2t

A2 - @sopecreek 5th grade does trips every year to the Aquarium and Jekyll Island for learning opportunities OUTSIDE the classroom. We have also done Indoor Skydiving, Court House etc. #nt2t
A1: moving overseas from the States when I was 6 yrs old. Living in another country teaches you a lot. You get to really know and understand a place differently when you call it home for several years, than when you're just visiting. #nt2t
#NT2T A1: On my way to the Grand Canyon I stopped in the painted desert to investigate the sign below near Tuba City. Was invited into the gates by a Navajo man there and we walked around and talked for about an hour. Incredible experience.

I think libraries all over the world are having a battle for survival. So important that we support a much needed resource for everyone. You can start by demanding a #GreatSchoolLibrary#nt2t
Libraries are awesome. I serve on our city's Library Board and we are really pushing hard to get people to see the myriad services they provide (beyond just books). #nt2t
I was about to mention this myself! Yes yes yes. I've exposed my family (mostly my older daughter) to lots of classic film on the big screen. She's enjoyed most of it. Just went to a Bergman with my wife.
And we continue to have a renaissance of sorts with documentaries.

A3 Learning to learn for yourself is so important. Being bored and using your imagination is a huge skill. Going to the park, beach and just getting outside is learning too. #nt2t
A3: learning is everywhere! Every time you encounter something new, or something that challenges your thinking, you are learning. Need to understand the whole world is our classroom. #NT2t
#NT2T A2: The internet. Such a great place to learn what I don't know and to learn that what I know may in fact be wrong. #SelfAwareness is greater than #SelfEsteem
A3 - We need to show students that learning does not stop when we leave the classroom. We are born to learn. We learn even when we don't know that we are learning. #NT2T
I keep hearing this debate, with people proving they still use libraries. I haven't specifically heard of local libraries closing down, and tiny Connecticut is stuffed with a lot of communities (and their libraries). #nt2t
And I love the way libraries are transforming their spaces from a quiet place to read books to interactive, collaborative learning spaces to explore the world. #NT2t
A3: Somehow/someway some people (wow that's a lot of somes) get in the mindset that learning is a school thing. Teaching/learning is the responsibility of Ps, Ts and ourselves. It is all around us #nt2t
A3: learning is a process. You can't stop it but you can influence it. So if you make students aware ofthe learning process learning will be more consistent and relevant for them. #nt2t
There are so many things we can all learn about/from! Different contexts help us think differently, which can inspire a new approach to an old problem or help us be more open-minded! Even if not, it's usually a lot of fun to learn about something completely different!! #nt2t
A3 If we want our kids (and other adults) to be lifelong learners, we have to model waht that looks like. Literally, the world is an open classroom with leanring opportunities everywhere. #nt2t
A3 Difference between learning as mindset that can be wherever you are versus learning as activity for particular place, only unfolding when limited conditions can be met. Former unleashes opportunities, opens doors; latter constrains, closes doors. #nt2t

A3 It’s so important to show students that they are always learning and that things they like doing outside of school count! Literally any extracurricular/hobby/interest they participate in is still learning, and that should be valued #nt2t
Libraries are awesome. I serve on our city's Library Board and we are really pushing hard to get people to see the myriad services they provide (beyond just books). #nt2t
There is such variability in what works for learning -- some may learn better in a different environment. And if learning is lifelong, it can't be just closely associated with school. #nt2t A3
A4 - I share what I have learned or things that get my curiosity. I talk about experiences I have had and what got me thinking, I ask if anyone knows answers to questions I have to show that I am constantly curious about things. #NT2T

A4 I run an online book club throughout the year and try encourage reading for #PD throughout the summer, anyone can join in when they can. https://t.co/NbiJCc3r2f#nt2t
A4 I made myself a summer reading list, and I actually kept on it. I only have one book left for these last few days of summer! And I participated in the Summer Reading program at my library and told literally everyone about it (to get back to the library discussion lol) #nt2t
Good morning #nt2t! Sad to miss today's chat but enjoying family time celebrating birthdays together. Looking forward to checking out the transcript and catching up later!
We enroll our daughters in enriching camps, including theater. We also (all year) go to museums, historic sites, outdoor places to explore, performing arts (including participation in)... #nt2t A4
A4- We send home summer learning boxes with the kids that include their favorite books and fun activities. Really designed more to slow down summer slide more than encourage independent outside learning. #nt2t
It has only been running since January and I am working it out as I go along. I usually have one book on the go and then interesting articles that I have found that can be discussed in between. Always looking for ways to improve it. #nt2t
A4 We take advantage of opportunities to take day trips or visit interesting sites but my 15 yr old and I continue to read aloud together. I’ve learned so much about his thoughts and process this way. #nt2t
A4 This summer I am challenging myself to grow my PLN with a PD course called PD4Me. This is waaaay out of my comfort zone, but I am enjoying the new experiences! #nt2t#pd4me#hcpsethics

A5 - "Who wishes we were still on vacation?" Why/why not? I ask them to talk to each other about the question to get an idea of how they spent the time away from school or how they feel about summer vacation. #NT2T
A5 As a child I always hated answering this question. I did a lot of playing outside and with friends in the street but that never sounded as exciting as those in the class that went away on holiday. I know it is an easy starter but not alway easy for every child #nt2t
A5: perhaps it could be better to ask not about vacation or places. Perhaps some kids stayed at home. So ask: what are your best moments during holiday time - could be meeting a friend, reading a book. Every student could tell something. #nt2t
A5 I think it might be more interesting to ask students to share something cool they learned over the summer. That way it’s not about just saying where you went on vacation, if you were able to go somewhere. Learning is always happening, so everyone can share #nt2t
A5 Previously, I've taken What Did You Do Over Summer Vacation prompt & asked students to brainstorm precise verbs that could replace 'do.' Then pick one & tell that story. Cures superficial bed-to-bed narratives covering 1st-day wake up to last day sleep time. #nt2t
A5 - We have already answered this question in room 2039! I used it as Narrative writing practice and a way to learn about my new kiddos interests! #nt2t
Summer vacation isn’t a positive experience for everyone. H/t @HelenWilt: https://t.co/iiC4mGTlb2 Dont focus on the “vacation” but what they’ve learned lately or hope to learn. #nt2t A5
I agree, this question has to be right for every child. Understanding that we don't always know what has gone on at home. Some children may of had it really tough and getting back to school is a relief. #nt2t
A5 A lot of our kids are free and reduced lunch and don’t have opportunities others might. To level the playing field and add creativity, I’d go with, If you could do anything you wanted during summer type question. #nt2t
Q6) How can we support access to a range of learning environments outside of school, in a way that's inclusive of as many kids and families as possible? #nt2t

A5 Old School writing essay! Need new twist that poses a different way of revealing information: You Are Invited 2 creatively depict "The Art of Summering" 4 global gallery showing. See https://t.co/haYVOteDVG This is authentic/allows 4 creativity/will be published online. #nt2t

A6 Back to libraries I'm afraid :) Free wifi and access to IT that may not be available at home. Great resources, both online and books. Lot's of different free activities too. #nt2t
A6 Some kind of collaborative document would be awesome… there are things I know about, like free museum days, parks and gardens, libraries, but others (not just teachers) know about other free/inexpensive summer activities that we would all benefit from knowing about #nt2t

Yes, it needs to be about the simple pleasures and not the big holidays. Difficult though as children don't always realise that others are not having these holidays... #nt2t
A6 Blur school building's boundaries. For my 1st time as educator, opening day of staff development this past week involved teams of colleagues making home visit that was pre-arranged to talk w/student, family. Instructive foundation building of relationships. #nt2t
Hey Carol, the idea stresses the importance of us really observing what is around us. Even when the place is already familiar, rediscovery is always possible. #NT2T

Absolutely! I look back on my childhood with great fondness! Just at the time it seemed that I was missing out on something but that was a child's view :) #nt2t

A6 As a @Wonderopolis Wonder Lead Ambassador, I would like to pose that families join Camp Wonderopolis for a free online camp experience. Why not bring in a group of friends to join the adventure. Win badges, read, create, and have fun. https://t.co/DBzrKNjvAP#nt2t
No apologies for libraries! We've already determined they're the best places in the universe.
My in-laws have a magnet on their fridge: "If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need." So shout-out to @shyj for all her time in the garden! #nt2t

#NT2T A6: Everyone can learn SOMETHING that gives them a skill/skills to make them employable. Need to "teach" them the importance of that. Find it then focus on mastering that skill. Teach how they learn, don't make them learn how you teach

I have always been a proponent of project based learning that is authentic, imaginative, and engaging beside a great learning experience, Jeremy. I hope your family will create a #digitalinspiration for #TheArtofSummering. #Nt2t
Our SS teacher had a list of free and inexpensiveplaces to visit in the area that the kids got extra credit for. Someone was always adding something new they discovered. Would be nice to have students add a brief review.#nt2t

A grid with selfie items on it that they check off when they get the picture... for example - a selfie on a hiking trail, eating a smore', or at a festival of some sort. Things designed to get them out, learning, experiencing, and off device! #nt2t
