Hello #txed ! That moment in the Service Recognition when you get a selfie with the superintendent and the school board trustees and they are all smiles! #AlwaysBelieve Jerry Toups checking in from Richmond, TX.
Q1: Tonight we'll be discussing various ways to keep your instruction "FRESH" as an educator. Why is it important to keep your instruction FRESH throughout the ENTIRE year? #txed
A1: A lot of teachers chat about EOY behaviors. Engaging students with "fresh" instruction and lessons can completely change your classroom dynamic. #TXed#webblc
A1 We are all dragging by this time, especially after THIS crazy year! Keeping it fresh keeps us on our toes which keeps kids engaged and on their toes ready to soak up every second left of learning! #TXed
Keeping your instruction "FRESH" until the end of the year increases engagement, which in turn decreases behavior issues. All this maximizes learning for students!! #TXed
Q1: Tonight we'll be discussing various ways to keep your instruction "FRESH" as an educator. Why is it important to keep your instruction FRESH throughout the ENTIRE year? #txed
21st century students are use to things changing all the time. To keep their attention you have to be willing to change too. Plus what fun is it to stay the same?! #txed
A1: We’ve got to keep things fresh for our kids so that they are engaged and excited and not bored. Also - keeping things fresh keeps me at my best, too ! #txed
A1 It's important to keep the learning fresh all year, especially at the end when we have the last final push. But use this time to have students show off their learning, skills, passion. Mine are nerding out about making their own digital breakouts! #txed
A1: I think it is important to keep your instruction fresh is to keep you fresh too. Doing the same old thing gets you in a funk as much as the kids. #txed
A1: The more entry points our Ss have to demonstrate understanding, the more flexible they can be with analyzing & applying what they learn. Keep it fresh, keep it real, and keep it rigorous. #TXed
Let's associate "fresh" with authentic and relevant! If students are able to the they develop interest and curiosity which results in learning by engagement. #txed
A1: Well, look at the alternative.... old, outdated, ineffective, borning lessons are not engaging to students. Kids become disengaged when instruction becomes stale. The 586th time of playing Kahoot is not as exciting as the first couple. Change, grow, stay FRESH! #txed
A1-Learning never stops. We are all tired this time of year, but we have to keep moving forward. Changing it up a little allow the journey to be more enjoyable for you and your students. #TXed
#TXed As we attend PD throughout the year, we need to implement some of the things we learn. These new strategies can make a positive difference with our students. PD can keep us fresh!
#txed, Just my opinion, but the more you have the kids teaching each other the better. I am a huge peer tutoring teacher. Kids enjoy different ways in which they are enabled to help and teach each other. #AlwaysBelieve
A1: Our Kids Deserve for their school days to be FRESH and exciting and fun every day! All of us learn more when we are truly engaged! Teachers that are tuned into their S know when things need to get exciting again and when to stay in the confort zones. #TXED
Q1: Tonight we'll be discussing various ways to keep your instruction "FRESH" as an educator. Why is it important to keep your instruction FRESH throughout the ENTIRE year? #txed
A2: I created a digital roadmap for an entire unit. Everything my students needed was online, videos, quizzes assignment. They got to work at their own pace and I was able to work one on one w/ students that needed it. #txed
A2 I’m ELAR so we do a lot of color coding to show elements of genre. Doing this with map pencils, markers, and the digital highlighter online keeps my kids focused on the genre, and it allows them to find information much quicker. Dictionary races are also popular. #TXed
A2: Blind Kahoots have been a game changer for PD and now my Ts are using this method in the clsrm to level the playing field for differentiated inst, to flush out misconceptions, and keep the engagement alive-n-well. #TXed@GetKahoot
A2:) We have weekly design-thinking challenges. These gives me room to be enormously surprising; it gives the kids the chance stretch their creations. #txed
Mine students are loving this paper magic squares review. It's a lot of drawing. But also learning and reviewing visually. It's a foldable basically! #txed
A2: Have a Question Board at the front of the room. Great instructional strategy to jot down the S's important questions that you don't have time or the resources to look up. Come back to it and continue the flow of your current instruction. Worked GREAT in my class! #txed
A2 Are you ready for this? Tiny “dodge” ball. I have no idea where it came from, but I pulled out this ball that we now toss to the person that wants to share. Everyone is engaged and listening to the person holding the ball. What?! Where were you all my teaching life? #TXed
I did something like this with a Canvas course and different digital tools. I put information about each tool, examples on how Ts can incorporate them, information to download/install the tool, and any other resources I have created for each tool. #txed
I love it!! We need to model for our staff the strategies they can use in the classroom. Let them explore, learn at their own pace and based on their interest. Great! #TXed
Q3: With all the social media and digital resources that consume our time, educators can become "overwelmed" with all the "FRESH" ideas, tips, and strategies. How can we help these educators? #txed
A1: One of the worst things we can do is become stagnant as educators. Whenever we become comfortable—the challenge of teaching diminishes and student learning suffers. We need to stay with the trends and keep it fresh & fun for kids so they want to stay in school & learn! #TxEd
A2 my kids are also LOVING book clubs. The accountability built in, the conversations digging deep into the literature, and the collaboration and building of ideas. I LOVE it and the kids do too! #TXed
The primary mission for schools is to support students in educational achievement. To reach this goal, we know that students must feel safe, supported, and ready to learn. Trauma-informed schools will help get us there. @nctsn#txedhttps://t.co/LGW6A9tf15
I love it when I visit classrooms at our school and teachers are implementing number talks. You can see the students' thinking and how they share their number sense and learn from one another!! #TXed
A2 I just did instructional coaching in two different schools - one was thematic book clubs to promote empathy and the other was PBL ... kids had a blast and they were so insightful! #TXed
A2: Rubrics aid students in goal setting and measuring their growth. They help keep students invested in their learning as long as they are used to rubrics leading to powerful learning. #txed
I'm so pumped to be a featured presenter!!!! I can't wait to see you there! P.S: I LOVE @GoNoodle. My Elementary teachers use it daily and we use it all the time at home with our kiddos! #cfisddlc#txed

A2:) At this time of year, we change all the kids’ schedules to choice boards. They need to meet certain requirements, but they get to design their whole day. #txed
A3-At times, we believe we have to hit a home run each time we step up to the plate. Something we try will not work out. Reflect, adjust and try again. #TXed
#txed Just my opinion, a veteran Tr knows the TEKS and KNOWS what there Ss are weak in at the end of the year. They adapt to the Ss they CURRENTLY teach and CREATE their own lessons the target the TEKS. You become a master Tr when you create the curriculum used by your Ss.
A3: I send out a weekly Tech Tips. I curate resources I’ve found, & include my thoughts. It’s stored in Google Slides, so Ts can bookmark & check anytime! #txed
A3: when approaching anything new and slightly overwhelming, I always say to start with the pieces you are comfortable with doing RIGHT NOW. Add the other pieces as your kids master that new piece. It’s not all or nothing. Do what you can and do it well! #TXed
A3: Ts need to treat their learning as they set for Ss. Small steps to gain confidence and gradually release more and more to them as they show they can handle it. #txed
A3: Pick something to try and go for it!!! Don’t get overwhelmed by all the choices - learn one thing well before you add something else to your repertoire #txed
Q4: It's great to keep our instruction "FRESH", but that doesn't always mean we have to start all over with new tools, strategies, etc. What are some examples of keeping your instruction "fresh" by re-imagining, reusing, or reinventing older tools and strategies? #txed
A3: We give all Ts 4 goals per year and build in supports in a variety of forms. Conf Pd Mtgs, screencasts, example lessons and campus mentors. Next year we will offer an inst tech cohort! #TXed#winning#wayexcited
#txed A4 Trs need to "tweek" curriculum to fit the needs of their CURRENT Ss. What worked last year, may not benefit the Ss you have this year. Be creative, know your TEKS and CREATE what you teach. Ss APPRECIATE IT!
A4: Our district has jumped into Canvas as an LMS. Our secondary Ts have been busy taking instruction they have done face to face and moving to a more blended instruction. #txed
A4:) Since no one checks out large flat screens from the library anymore, we’ve confiscated all of them & use them as monitors for the computers. #txed
A4: Every year I tweek my lessons and units. I am usually the only person on my campus teaching my content so I have a lot more freedom over making changes. I think about what worked/didn't work and what my current ss needs are. #txed
A4 it’s test prep time. Instead of answering questions from a packet, think of ways students can answer in a format that they don’t have to just sit and circle. Try race to find the evidence (in rdg) and other ways to practice the skills without the mundane. #TXed
A4 We don’t do spelling tests but being able to use dictionaries this year was huge. Spelling rules taught alongside grammar and mechanics using the dictionary in Google Classroom as a station. Key word had to be found in the dictionary and given as evidence. Kids loved it. #TXed
A4: I have an ASL instructor who now uses @padlet in a new way. She houses students signing all the vocabulary for the week. Under the video, other Ss post topics and places in the real world where that sign/vocab term or word is used. It's incredible and so inventive! #TXed
A4 Pull out a review game you haven't used in a while! I even pulled out my puzzles to review Making inferences. Ss are putting puzzle together without the box top with the picture! #TXed
Q4: It's great to keep our instruction "FRESH", but that doesn't always mean we have to start all over with new tools, strategies, etc. What are some examples of keeping your instruction "fresh" by re-imagining, reusing, or reinventing older tools and strategies? #txed
Q5: Every time you turn around, there's a "FRESH" tool. Google Classroom was VERY "FRESH" a while back, followed by tools like Seesaw, Recap, and many others. This year, Flipgrid has taken that crown. What will be the next "FRESH" educational tool? #txed
A4: To answer my question from earlier, @kahoot is an amazing tool that KEEPS reinventing itself to keep instruction FRESH! Same with @padlet and a couple others! I love to pull out the good old popsicle sticks, do some 4 square, and many other instructional strategies #txed

A4 (extension): I like to pair up best practice in clsrm mgnt with our inst tech practices, such as thumbs up/side/down, posters & clip boards, iPads & QR codes. It's impt Ss & Ts see that it's not one vs the other. Works for PD as well #bettertogether#TXed#balance
A4: use old to introduce new. For example, use good ole 3 Little Pigs story to introduce the concept of collaboration, or lack thereof, asking with the usual literacy lessons. #txed
A4:) We also use voice changer apps to smash w/ our @Seesaw comments. Essentially, the kids get to talk like the chipmunks while they evaluate they own work. #txed
#txed, Just my opinion, but the more you have the kids teaching each other the better. I am a huge peer tutoring teacher. Kids enjoy different ways in which they are enabled to help and teach each other. #AlwaysBelieve
A5 My students and I are loving the new, fresh pallet with picture and video features! It’s a great example of using something old in a new way. And, it’s so easy and convenient to use! #TXed
A5: I like how I am seeing green screening coming into education and allowing Ss to be very creative with their products. Apps like Green Screen by @DoInkTweets is easy for all ages to use. #txed
A5: I like how all Google products are constantly staying “fresh”. New checkboxes in Sheets, embedding HTML in Sites, combining Keep in Docs, it seemingly never ends #TXed
Q5: Every time you turn around, there's a "FRESH" tool. Google Classroom was VERY "FRESH" a while back, followed by tools like Seesaw, Recap, and many others. This year, Flipgrid has taken that crown. What will be the next "FRESH" educational tool? #txed
A5 I am loving @useloom for my flipped videos this year. Also loving @nearpod updates including collaboration and changing background. You know Google will probably have classroom updates. We are also getting @Schoology so I gotta get on board there.😁 #txed
#txed A5 I am going to do my best with the rest of my life to spread the power of the message of my 1st rule since 1990, Always Believe In Yourself. Imagine a school that emphasis this theme year round. IT CHANGES LIVES! Coming fall 2018 The Story of Always Believe
Q6: Now is your chance!!! Introduce us to some "FRESH" educators, teams, districts, tools, programs, and or companies making waves on social media with their instructional tools, ideas, tips, strategies, motivation, etc. #txed

A5-It is not so much about the tool than it is how we use the tool. Fresh ideas come from teachers that reflect and look at things in a different light. #TXed
Absolutely! Technology is just the vehicle. Teachers are the ones making the educational decisions and using technology to enhance their instruction! #TXed
