Welcome to #flipclasschat Introduce yourself, area of education, years flipping, etc. Also with thanksgiving over here in the US leftovers are on the brain. what leftovers do you always keep but end up throwing out?
Andrew from the world of 8th grade Social Studies, currently in my 6th year of #flipclass (?!!)
Note to self: lemon meringue pie DOES NOT keep well, so next year you might as well just eat it with the main course

One element that may make a #flipclass even easier. Incorporate social media. Here are 5 lessons your students can learn from you. https://t.co/0o9c4VpqOz

Oooh, last night my wife made some quick & easy potato pancakes out of the leftovers as a side dish!
Come for the #flipclass pedagogy, stay for the cooking tips
Tonight's #flipclasschat will be a little different than usual....
We will do a "book club" style conversation about a couple recent FLN blog posts by @matthew_t_moore
"If your best thing is group activity and interactive collaboration, then that almost certainly must be done in the classroom."
That resonates with this SocSt teacher because discussion skills & civic engagement are at the core of my job.

new curriculum is always hard, but I find many teachers have taught the same stuff for years in a row ( I have been guilty of this) It is like the names change but the worksheets are the same #flipclass#flipclasschat
"You likely already have the worksheets, lab reports, guided notes, or graphic organizers you already use, and those are easy enough to put in some sort of digital format where students can access them 24/7."
Not actually true for me, b/c I flipped new curriculum

The hardest part of flipping my classroom was just convincing myself to get started. I already had all the notes...all I needed to do was record. No need to reinvent the wheel #flipclass#flipclasschat
#flipclasschat What I think initially steers Ts away from #flipclass has little to do with its level of difficulty. I see more apprehension about change itself, especially change that they see as unconventional. The irony - Ss don't see learning from a vid as unconventional.
A veteran T in my building finally took the leap because of an extended anticipated Student absence and thus far her response is "I didn't realize it was this easy" granted she is only on step 1 but every journey starts with a step. #flipclass#flipclasschat

#truth from @bamaguy1218 just like my waistline, I don't attempt change until it is unavoidably necessary and obvious. #flipclass isn't hard, change is hard. #flipclasschat

#flipclasschat It's amazing how information relay that takes 45 minutes can be condensed into 8 minutes or so. A T who is afraid to change that tries #flipclass also has a shift of what they now do in class instead of a mass of information relay. I loved the change, though.
Hey #flipclass#flipclasschat, if you are watching the convo but are hesitant to jump in, don't worry @bamaguy1218@JJBackeberg@flippingwithjoy are some awesome vets that love to answer questions& hear your perspective. (we are watching the blog hits & see we have listeners)
The T i just mentioned shared that she was hitting the record limit on the free software, b/c she is doing live taping rather than pre-record (which is totally fine BTW) but it did start a convo about how pre-record has big time impact #flipclass#flipclasschat

Kids often ask me how much time I've spent making videos. I usually figure that a 10 minute video takes me about an hour to record, edit, and post (and I have over 100 videos). It takes a lot of time and effort. #flipclass#flipclasschat
every person has their own schedule (@flipping_A_tchr and I have vastly different time requirements) but it really is what work for you the T and more specifically for your Ss. #flipclass#flipclasschat

#flipclasschat Once I starting #flipclass, the quality of my class time rose quite a bit. Students were suddenly applying and doing higher-order tasks far more often than when I spent so much time on information relay. There's no way the Ss failed to benefit from that.
I did my first brand spanking new vid in quite a while just the other day and it is 5:46 and it took me 10 min, b/c my format, low production standards, and more than a little practice allowed me to do what I wanted to do. #flipclass#flipclasschat but I.....
Yesterday I recorded/edited/posted four 5-minute videos in about 2 hours!
I was so proud of myself....
Then I made 2 more very early this morning in about 1 hour (including the time it took to shave my face)
#flipclasschat#flippingproblems
I also struggle with finding enough activities to fill the time with. My classroom is nowhere near perfect and I'll never claim that it is, but #flipclass gives me the time and freedom to explore different options. #flipclasschat
...but I am working on a larger project that includes a lot of branching and S choice that has many branches that require many small vids and that is taking TIME! #flipclass#flipclasschat
#flipclasschat#flipclass often brings much more S "doing" to class. "Doing" is how so much is learned. If I have Ss do the activities without a video or instruction, they probably would learn just as much as they previously did from my information relay. Makes me wonder.
just tonight I pulled vids from VOX, linus tech tips, donut media, et al for this choice project because in some cases why not use their production value, but wrap it with my vids for intro-outro or "next steps" and build on the T-S relationship #flipclass#flipclasschat
getting ready for sine waves etc and I have just been keeping list of links from my own youtube viewing for topic appropriate curating. I am going to have Ss do a small writing excercise and then do peer review pulling math out & explaining to other Ss #flipclass#flipclasschat
"Doing" in class works well in math. Ss don't need the most help when getting introduced to a topic...they need the most help when they try to use/apply that information to unique problems. #flipclass allows me to give them that support when they need it most #flipclasschat
