#gafechat Nick HS S.S. Teacher I haven't started using Google Classroom yet, (use iTunesU now) district is contemplating switching to Chrome Books from iPads
Hey #gafechat. I'm creating a tutorial on how to use your #edtech network of support. Can you help me show my #googleforedu Level 1 Educator cohort how a PLN works by chiming on this question: How do you insert a comment in a google doc? Thanks!
A1: I've been doing a lot of Hyperdocs with my Ss this year-I'll send out via Google Classroom. Also will pose a Q and open up for discussion #gafechat
A1: I use Google Classroom every day. Tomorrow- Ss will write an essay on Reconstruction and I'll give feedback on Docs with Talk and Comment #gafechat
#gafechat A1 I use it for students to turn in assignments, announcements with links to other resources. I will also use it for students to have discussions or to take quick polls.
A1: Also use it for PD; I created a classroom for Ts where I upload tutorials, info, updates, ideas, etc. Allows Ts that aren't familiar with it to see how the Ss view Google Classroom. #gafechat
Hey #GAFEChat! Joining late! WAs going to head to bed early but didn't want to miss tonight's chat! Louie from Lancaster, PA. MS SS T. Huge Classroom proponent!
#gafechat A1: Would be looking to digitalize entire courses. Use for distribute of materials, collecting & returning assignments, use of collaboration tools.
A1. It's the lifeblood of my classroom. All work/teaching materials shared on Classroom. LInks and resources. Feedback provided. Class conversation and collaboration. Loving this extended word limit ha! #gafechat
I have created a Grade Check Google Forms and posted it in my Google Classroom. Student complete it every Friday to keep their parents updated on current grades. #gafechat
A1: Dig Cit classes are a great way to do PD by making the team's Ts instructors. Then you can use array of links to other online tools like Flipgrid, EdPuzzle, and, apps with Ss creating products based on the dig citizenship lessons in the process. #gafechat
A2: Recently, our admins have created classes to distribute notices and announcement to us. Also we have a department "class" for important department concerns #gafechat
#gafechat Some teachers have started to explore it, our district might be switching from 1 to 1 iPads to 1 to 1 Chromebooks - have a PD day for Classroom coming up in 2 weeks.
A1 I am a HS Reading Specialist and I use Google Classroom all the time! My kiddos create, collaborate, research, write, read, annotate, define, visualize, gain background knowledge all with #gsuiteedu#RebootReading#gafechat
Q2: CLassroom is easy enough for elem Ss to use & middle school uses it widely, but high school Ts still resist using & do Moodle instead. Not sure why. #gafechat
A1. My favorite use this year has been in creating a back channel for teachers to share resources and ideas. Also serves as the home of resources shared at Monthly Tech Bytes training. #gafechat
#gafechat A2 on the campus level we use GClassroom to do video announcements daily. At the district level, teachers and staff use it to interact and collaborate with each other sharing resources, etc.
We don't have Moodle or any other type of LMS, so our teachers are using it. Just started last year, but more and more are using it and finding it beneficial! #gafechat
#gafechat A2: Our school has has 1:1 so everyone uses Google Classroom and it is a tool that is used daily to share announcements, have collaborative discussions, turn in assignments, provide links to other resources and be stored.
A2 We have created a Grade Check in Google Forms and posted it in our Google Classrooms. Students complete the form each Friday to keep parents up to date on current grades #gafechat
This is great to mention Chevin! I love using GC as a resource for PD & collaboration with my colleagues. There is so much content we can store, & share #gafechat
A3: Right now, my favorite feature in G-Classroom is being able to differentiate by assigning to certain groups of Ss instead of whole class. Doing it tomorrow to give modified test to ESL Ss #gafechat
A3: I love being able to post an assignment w/a doc copy for each student, resources for assignments, and also modify some assignments to send to some students vs all #gafechat
I think some Ts are hesitant bc they think other formats are better for preparing Ss for what they'll be doing in college. I disagree. Classroom is easy and efficient. For that reason alone we should use it. Things will change by the time Ss enter college anyway. #gafechat
Change is hard and probably the biggest reason. Not knowing how to use tech is another. Pressure from standardized testing. I am trying to get them all on board. But I understand frustrations. #gafechat
Yes. The counselors and college coach use it to update the bulletin case with where Ss have been accepted. Also for reporting purposes all the information is right there. #gafechat
Hi @Ed_Tech_Specs! LOVING hyperdocs! They're an amazing way to individualize learning, foster collaboration, ultimately Ss are producers, not consumers! #gafechat
I guess we use it in the sense that there is communication in a non-trad email sense. A platform to collect and share resources Does that make sense?#GAFEChat
Once they have submitted an assignment I resubmit it and add comments to each student. I also add comments on a Doc/Google Drawing, etc... Then Ss can resubmit their work. #gafechat
@DavidENorman#gafechat I've enjoyed it tremendously, easy of use, good organization, works pretty seamlessly with iOS products. Very interested in how Google Classroom compares, Google Apps are awesome
A3. Can there be just one favorite? Love support and interconnectivity with all Google Apps/Tools. Ability to leave feedback in both public/private comment. Student collab. Where does it end? #gafechat
I took the advice of @alicekeeler and organized by numbering assignments. I have one weekly assignment that is created on Google Slides. Ss and I talk about the assignment at the beginning of the week and they work. I get to work with them 1 on 1. #gafechat
A4: Organize assignments using topic feature. Plus, it helps me the following year when I want to go back and see what brilliant (and not so brilliant) ideas I had the previous year. #gafechat
Hi @Ed_Tech_Specs! LOVING hyperdocs! They're an amazing way to individualize learning, foster collaboration, ultimately Ss are producers, not consumers! #gafechat
A5: Have Ss search for and watch several YouTube videos on a topic & share the BEST one by replying to a discussion question. They will absorb content to find the BEST one. Sneaky Teaching #gafechat
#gafechat A5: The question feature I have used as a quick poll or as a quick formative question on a topic. I love that I can make it into a multiple choice or leave it as a short answer. #GoogleClassroom
A5: Project image/quote/graph and use the short answer question to have the students pose a question they have regarding the image, quote, graph, etc. Have them see each others questions and discuss them. #gafechat
A6: Assign homeworkin Classroom that is a link to a game/website in where Ss do practice or drill. Have Ss take a screenshot of work to turn in. This homework is less stressful than practicing new skills at home without assistance available to Ss. #gafechat
A6: Create one doc/sheet for all Ss to be able to share the resources. Post the file on About page for easy access. Post EQ & Ss share resources that support the question #gafechat
A6. Bring in the other Google Tools: Slides, Docs, Sheets, Street View, Google Tourbuilder. Google Classroom is AWESOME, but you can't necessarily create all lessons with Classroom. #gafechat
Oh yes! I've been creating screencasts this year as tutorials for simple and complex tasks. So beneficial and empowering students to learn at their own pace. #GAFEChat
#gafechat A7: I incorporate links that will take Ss to Flipgrid, Kahoot, Quizlet Live. I also have Ss attach their Screencastify presentations that they use to show what they have learned.
Rotate students out to be the notetakers in class. Depending on the lesson create a table in document for multiple Ss to take notes on various parts. Together they own the learning. #gafechat
A8: Collaborate w/Slides. EACH slide has own URL. When kids are working on a collaborative slideshow, have Ss turn in slide URL to the slides they personally created by copying/pasting link in comments section. #gafechat
