Join #ICEilchat for the last Thursday of the month at 8pm CST as we discuss topics on ed tech, collaboration, building a PLN, professional learning and so much more!
A1: Everything around me that affects everything I do - people, places, things. Everything that influences who I am, what I do, and how I then affect others. #ICEilchat
A1: Everything around me that affects everything I do - people, places, things. Everything that influences who I am, what I do, and how I then affect others. #ICEilchat
I think this means whom we are surrounded with. My first circle is my family, then my co-workers, and finally my students. My family is my greatest motivator, then I can say that I have good and inspiring co-workers and students. #ICEilchat
A1 cont: My family, my kids, my dog, my colleagues, my surroundings, my inbox, the laundry, etc. All those things influence who I am and what I can accomplish every day. #ICEilchat
A1: Sphere of influence to me is bigger than my current connections. It's everyone who's contributed to the person I am today. The good, the bad, & the ugly - but I'm biased toward the positive influence. #ICEilchat
When I Googled it, I found a definition that it was, "a country or area in which another country has power to affect developments although it has no formal authority." Interesting...how does this relate to or differ from your definitions? #ICEilchat
A2: The challenge is that my sphere includes many people w/ similar ideas for transforming education, but our spheres aren't exactly welcome by some leaders & educators. #ICEilchat
A2: My biggest challenge is time and the fact that there is only one of me. I spread myself way too thin trying to make all of my influencers (kids, husband, job, etc.) happy and successful. #ICEilchat
the biggest challenge is to maintain harminy between the circles. Nowadays our lives are getting busier and busier so we tend to miscare some important circles. #ICEilchat
I can definitely understand...I have heard this from many people, and have experienced it at some points myself. What is the most common form of pushback you encounter? #ICEilchat
Yes! I think that's where the phrase initially originated. The part that stuck out most to me was "no formal authority." I thought that was a very interesting twist...something I had not previously considered. #ICEilchat
We see Ts with ideas to create a more student centered classroom, but too many classical Ts pushing back focused on structure, rows, direct instruct. There's a balance to be found here. #ICEilchat
I agree! I once heard a friend say that time is THE ULTIMATE nonrenewable resource. What are some of the big rocks that you can identify that eat up the most time? You don't have to share if you don't want, but keep the answers in mind for the next questions :) #ICEilchat
A3: I think that no matter what you are talking about - family, job, students, etc. - it truly takes a village. By finding your "village" you can find better success. Tonight is an example of just one village. Sharing our thoughts here influences each other. #ICEilchat
Q4: What similar projects may seek to serve a similar purpose to the need that you have identified? How have they addressed it? Where is there room for improvement?
#ICEilchat
This is so true! I am learning so much already from everyone. A couple of people have said time is a concern...wondering if there is some fix that can help us solve that problem. For me, it was looking for natural overlaps between projects: https://t.co/R2xvRXGklp#ICEilchat
A1: Sphere of influence means to me the quality people who are shaping me to be the best person. My sphere involves people who are going to push me and make me better. #ICEilchat
I love this..brings to mind the idea that we are the composite of the five people we are around the most...not sure where this idea originated, but it makes sense to me! We must choose wisely. #ICEilchat
Most insightful is definitely Learning Transformed from @E_Sheninger and @thomascmurray The Rigor/Relevance Framework is so much better than SAMR for discussing tech implementation & active learning. #ICEilchat

Thanks so much! At one point, I felt like I had bitten off too much, but then I realized that each piece had a similar goal, and it would be better to work on them simultaneously, instead of doing repeated tasks individually. It actually made it easier! #iceilchat
That has to be the toughest thing in my book as well. Trying to use Google Keep for this, along with making actual calendar appointments - not just 'great, see you tomorrow' #ICEilchat
A5: These two Qs were tough! Sometimes I think that the biggest obstacle for solving any problem is the time it takes to find the solution. While we teach our Ss to solve, iterate and solve again, in real time, that is often difficult and consuming. #ICEilchat
Best when you can collaborate on problems in real time, but trying to find time for 2-3 or more Ts at the same time is something Admin need to commit resources to if we're going to see it happen. #ICEilchat
I agree 100%! There was a great video that I saw a few years back, and my takeaway was that the boy predicted how many times his contraption would not work before it did. I showed this to students as soon as I had the opportunity. https://t.co/6w5sPvwisT#ICEilchat
That's a skill that needs to be taught to more administrators. Some get it, some don't. Let's see if we can guess who Ts dread going to meetings with. #ICEilchat
A4: Timing devices or set agenda times can help, but importance of topic to participants can overrule the regulations - necessary but unfortunate. #ICEilchat
I just saw this video for the first time a few weeks ago. I love his energy and dedication. I think he set a realistic goal knowing it would take more than one try. #ICEilchat
I agree! What is something that can be changed? For me, I felt at the beginning of my career that I was on an island. #EduMatch didn't come from that per se, but that experience put the fire in me to take my need and scale it. #ICEilchat
A5: Being sensitive to the needs of my fellow meeting participants makes me reluctant to maintain stern governance over mutually agreed upon rules-even though we mutually agreed. #ICEilchat
This is so true! Wondering if the flipped faculty meeting may help...maybe paired with some way to communicate asynchronously (i.e. Twitter, Voxer, or TodaysMeet)? #ICEilchat
I would really like to see more of a shift to systems that seem to value learning. Teachers, leaders, etc who put emphasis on development and growth. There's so much happening Twitter in other spaces, but I think of all of the Ts who aren't involved #ICEilchat
I have “borrowed” a template for Google docs made by a principal in my district that sets times for each item - notes for discussion- action to take- and consensus vote. #ICEilchat
A7: Its sometimes easier to reinvent the wheel rather than do the legwork, but I think that we are more efficient if we do the legwork. Going back to the concept of the village, reaching out to other Ts and colleagues is a great 1st step toward solving any problem. #ICEilchat.
I struggle with this as well! Maybe we can brainstorm tips to overcome this together. The first question that comes to mind for me is if there someone on your team who wouldn't mind to be the timekeeper? #ICEilchat
Yup! and it's our job to bring them these ideas and encourage them to join the conversation. Not 'join Twitter' mind you. Join the conversation. Those are 2 completely different things. #ICEilchat
#ICEilchat self-care is important but I have to be honest, as a teacher, I have not paid too much attention to my health and weight. Teachers are always busy...
I know I could have used one of these this week. Keeps people more conscientious about how long we're discussing certain items. We might need chairs later, but probably not. #ICEilchat
Thank you to #ICEil for having me, as well as to all of you. If you are interested in putting your brainstorming to work, visit https://t.co/e0ZHQbMka3 for a customized action plan with the next six steps, to join our database, and to find potential collaborators.

#ICEilchat from Monday to Friday, my job consumes most of my time, I spend my weekends grading papers and homework, but I try to save some time for me... at least to do nothing about my job and relax.
