Good Evening! Donna Young BPE Third Grade Student Illustration: Nicholas Thompson Third Grader BPE thinking about which social smarts to use! #wearewayne
Jessica Greene, 3rd grade MWE, I had a good laugh early this morning when a little guy walked in the room with a super witty comment at 7:15 am! #wearewayne
Melissa Smith, Instructional Coach....co-taught a class of excited 2nd graders how to “view to learn” by accessing videos & texts about natural resources on Padlet ☺️ #wearewayne
A2: A lot of social behaviors are thought of as just "natural" to many...but for a lot of kids, it's not! Giving them the chance to learn how our thoughts and actions impact ourselves and others set them up for success! #wearewayne
A3: by explicitly teaching social thinking, we build a strong positive community that allows for greater learning.... it also builds our larger society to be thoughtful about others #wearewayne
A2: All we need to do is turn on the television or radio and watch/listen to the current climate. "We" have lost a great deal of our competencies in social skills and ability to engage in civil discourse. #wearewayne
Q2 not only does this need to be taught, but also modeled. We like to model our “thought bubbles “ with our students when we are frustrated, and choose positive words instead.
#wearewayne
A2: to allow students to build strong relationships and to instill empathy alongside it... as well as being able to communicate fairly and respectfully #WeAreWayne
A2: Because in a technology world, kids are not interacting face to face and communicating effectively- we need to help them learn these skills to be successful life long learners! #wearewayne
A2 - It's important to teach and model social skills so our kids understand how to respond and how to be prepared for diff. situations/interactions. #wearewayne
A2: oh my, so many ways that our scholars actively engage in that social process of problem solving, role playing, social stories #noonedoesitbetter#WeAreWayne
A3: nothing amazing about this but practical: when kids tattle to me, first thing I ask is if they talked to the other kid first. Did you use your words to communicate your hurt feelings, frustration, etc. Simple yet powerful! Talk!!! #wearewayne
A3: I am so proud of the engagement I see in social thinking within the #wearewayne classrooms. Our scholars are being prepared for their future and for an ever changing world. #WayneHabitsofSuccess#ReadinessSkills
A3 - I see it all over MWE with encouraging Ss to stop and think about their actions (+/-)...having conversations about how Ss actions impact those around them, good and bad! #wearewayne
A3: LOVE this! Weekly to monthly social thinking lessons are created by myself and the OT. It has been awesome to hear the vocabulary being used consistent throughout the building, and seeing most teacher run with the idea and come up with new fresh ideas each week♥️#wearewayne
You guys are giving lots of amazing answers. I'm new to wayne and see how important the social thinking forum is. Every child is unique in their thinking and this allows it be taught in a way everyone can understand. #wearewayne

@MrG00dman A3: In my classroom and others I’ve observed, expected and unexpected vocabulary is used with students to allow them to understand behaviors that are appropriate/inappropriate. #wearewayne

A3 I’ve seen it implemented when Kdg students use terms such as “expected behavior” correctly with examples based on the time of day, setting etc #wearewayne
You bring up a really interesting thought! The Wayne Habits of Success are expected behaviors in order to be successful! I love the connection there and will have to include that in our next "family meeting!" #wearewayne

A2- Our culture has so many “rules” and the “rules” vary in different situations. Students need to learn how to Stop Observe Deliberate and Act in all situations. These skills could be what sets them apart in a positive or negative way. #wearewayne
Wow! So many rich connections and great ideas coming in! With only 5 minutes left, time for Q4: Share a success story! How has social thinking positively impacted a student you know? #wearewayne
That problem scale has been my LIFESAVER! Stays posted up in my room and we reference it often! "Little problems need little reactions, not big ones!" #wearewayne
A3: Constantly refreshing our procedures and expected behaviors! Setting the stage for success by helping them know what success feels like! #wearewayne
A4:interactions when I go to elementary schools around the township. As kids walk independently down to. Technology Assistants office they must communicate to maybe this stranger they have never talked to before. Just the amount of courage and politeness is inspiring #wearewayne
A4: I had the honor to witness several of our @BenDavisHS students in the @A31CareerCenter Junior Chamber engage with @indywestchamber business and community leaders last week. Their abilities to engage these adults as a result of their social thinking was powerful!! #wearewayne
