A1: My top 3 values are integrity, honesty, compassion - they come from experience and reinforced by each new year of students. Teaching on a military base requires a lot of compassion for the different lifestyle/homes our Ss come from #ksedchat
A1) I value helping Ss find their strengths and passions, helping them LOVE learning by making learning engaging, and helping them feel connected and loved. These were shaped by wanting to redeem my own educational experience & an awesome student teaching experience. #ksedchat
A1) I value perseverance, effort, and respect. I have gotten them from my time as an educator and also a student. I think you need all of those values in order to do your best in life. #KSedchat

#ksedchat
A1) Discuss research. Inquiry first. Struggle well.

#ksedchat
Jumping in late! Andrew Bauer Halstead HS ELA, speech, debate, forensics. Super proud of the reading culture in my classes. Will be in and out because I'm teaching my daughter Super Mario World #ksedchat
A1: Top 3 Values: Relationships, Respect, and Responsibility.
Most of theses values are rooted in my faith. I strive to be the servant leader Jesus was. I will never be perfect, but if you set the bar low you will never grow. #ksedchat
A1) 1-RELATIONSHIPS!! @_NGash95_ and @DHEPrincipal for that being my top value as an educator! 2-Growth mindset for my Ss and myself Mr. Gash gets the credit there too. 3-Faith, being in a Catholic school it is up there with relationships too; growing in our faith! #ksedchat
#ksedchat 1-relationships 2-student centered 3-21st century learning my mom is an educator. I grew up in an education centered home and family. And my #ktoyfamily challenges me!
Hi All! Nick from Towanda and @circleusd375#thrivein375 I teach 6th grade Math and Science. I am very proud of how a few students have blossomed this year in my room #ksedchat
Wow. When you put them together like that, i realize how much I miss seeing them in people. It seems like we don’t appreciate these qualities anymore #ksedchat
#ksedchat Sherrie Rebel (also a little late joining in tonight) Derby North Middle School, reading intervention teacher. So proud of my students that are persevering and progressing to let go of their fixed mindset regarding their reading skills.
3 core values I have include being my authentic self, teaching with integrity, and being vulnerable and willing to fail.I got them from all those failures and shortcomings and a feeling deep inside that make me need authentic interactions. #ksedchat
It’s been awhile since I’ve been able to join #ksedchat! Katie from @ESSDACK. I am super proud of the Ts working toward @KSDEredesign! It’s an honor to be a part of their journey.
A1 Empathy, Honesty, Perseverance. I think. Those are the 3 that came to mind. Lots of influence from my teachers growing up, my family and my awesome PLN. #ksedchat
A1: 3 top values:
1 Every kid in my building matters and has value
2 I am not a finished product. And neither are my kids
3 The world is filled with awesome stuff and showing that to my kids is pretty special
#ksedchat
A1) I value growth in understanding, continuous effort, and serving others equally with oneself.
From my grandfather we learned: “Don’t lie. Don’t cheat. Don’t steal. Work hard.” Family mantra four generations running. #KSedchat
A1. top 3 are relationships, passion, & empty chair/student 1st. Numerous teachers & my mom have demonstrated to me how much relationships & truly loving your position & Ss can make a difference. In my last district I loved the empty chair philosophy from @VC262super#Ksedchat
A1.
Empathy, hard work, and positivity.
All three of these values were reflected by various educators thoughtout my life but my #teachermom has shown me the values each educator should have🥰 #ksedchat
A2: Everyday in everyday I work to show my Ss how much I care. One of my most famous phrases is “Have I told you how much I love you today?” They always smile at that even if they know its coming. #ksedchat
#ksedchat relationships. Invest in kids outside of school, hear them, meet them where they are at, eat with them, passion projects, morning mtg, greet at the door. Small things make big changes
A2: I am my goofy self all of the time. I feel that when students see that I'm comfortable in my own skin, they start to feel comfortable in theirs. #ksedchat
1. Competence - I want to feel like I can do the best job possible and trust that those around me and leading me can too.
2. Synergy - true combined effort to work toward a common good 3. Hope- belief that the future will be better than now #ksedchat
A2 Honesty - Its the little things. Admit when you mess up, admit your mistakes and deal with them. If I mess up something in class I admit it, show the kids HOW to deal with their mistakes. #ksedchat
A1: Be consistent. • Give grace. • Fair isn’t always equal.
• Formed over 25+ years of experience with influence from many amazing educators. #KSedchat
A2) Modeling my own struggles while verbalizing my experience - my emotions, my problem-solving, and how my goals shape the process - provides a template for "struggling well" that I hope my students could follow. #ksedchat
A2) Modeling my own struggles while verbalizing my experience - my emotions, my problem-solving, and how my goals shape the process - provides a template for "struggling well" that I hope my students could follow. #ksedchat
Children's play is their "learning." More opportunities for play can equal greater growth in creativity and educational outcomes. #ksedchat@misszeisler@MrsJankord
A2) Connectedness-we spend time in “circles” getting to know each other and sharing about life. This morning, we shared specific things we appreciate about each other. Modeling kindness and personal conversations for class conflict with restorative justice. #ksedchat
A2: I try to be as authentic and honest w/ my Ss as possible. Taking ownership when I make a mistake or an error and publicly acknowledging it to my Ss...they need to see even adults make mistakes but that we can admit it and own it #ksedchat
A2-Relationships: Listening to the Ss. Having morning work that helps us understand and get to know each other. Growth Mindset: Class points for showing it, and praise when a student shows it; YET! Faith: comes in with how we treat others, and in lessons. #ksedchat
Positivity:
When student engage in negative self talk I require them to rephrase the message into a goal. Working it integrate more growth mindset skills into my room. I #ksedchat
2)
https://t.co/hlaeN6foFU flexible.
Figure out the needs of the student, implement strategy, assess what worked, make changes to strategy as needed, and repeat!
Not being afraid of change when things do not go according to plan.
#ksedchat
A2: I am in a unique situation where my job is 100% helping Ss become outside of box thinkers box. I struggle w helping HS Ss who have not had a great school and/or life experience see that how they think and see problems is amazing and we can learn from them! #Ksedchat
A2: Consistency: we do bellwork the same way every day; hold kids to our rules and expectations every day; be clear about goals & expectations and follow through #KSedchat
I invite my students to practice empathy when reading literature. By offering them choices that are windows into others' experiences, they can flex their empathy muscles! #KSedchat
Being available. I teach 9H English where kids struggle to find their voice in writing. They often need the extra help. The IB seniors need guidance in not only my class but other classes they write essays. Kids can count on me to help with their needs #ksedchat
A2. I try to show passion in all that I do. I want to be seen as crazy/energetic/weird/mover & shaker because I want to bring it all to my Ss. I want to make every interaction meaningful, I want them to find passion like I’ve found mine & model how cool that can be #Ksedchat
A2 #ksedchat Relationships are key---I try to connect with Ss outside of my classroom during passing period--saying hello, wishing good luck on their events, helping after school with our Homework Helpers.
1. Relationships
2. Open communication
3. Teaching moments over punishment
My childhood helped me realize how important the relationships and open communication is between students and teachers. The relationships with my teachers helped me become who I am.
#KSedchat
A2: we start talking about kiddos’ strengths and design lessons that focus on those strengths. Support the kids in voicing their needs in classrooms #ksedchat
A2: One thing I really love about HHS is our emphasis on connections. I have become more purposeful each year in practicing empathy by trying to really understand where my students are coming from. I do this through daily conversations and weekly journaling #KSedchat
A2: I'm trying to begin with the end in mind and plan out what the end goal is for each unit and plan out what steps I want to use to get there. It sounds obvious, but I'm really good at winging it in the classroom. That route caused me to take a lot of detours. #ksedchat
A2: Relationships... I greet every S in the morning. Students greet each other every morning during our morning meeting. We do a lot of collaborative work, disucssion, and sharing ideas. We practice being active and respectful listeners all day!! #ksedchat
I support building relationships with my students by having one on one conversations with them on their level. I ask about life outside of school and listen to what they have to say. I also have a check in system that helps me start conversations with kids.#KSedchat
A2: Empathy in class might be a simple conversation about what is causing a certain behavior. Like I know you are upset about not doing well but this is only one moment in time. And if you'll let me I can help. #Ksedchat
A2 Problem Solving in Teaching Chromebook training in Grades 1-3. I create videos for Ss to figure out lessons on their own. This allows me to help Ss who might be struggling, but allows Ss to discover answers. If the video has the answer I direct Ss to watch again. #ksedchat
Any suggestions on how to get an entire school to buy into it? we have it occurring once a week during our 1st hour classes. Not all teachers see the value though #ksedchat
In reply to
@misszeisler, @srebelteacher, @MariaELoewen
2) I love focusing on all three honestly.Through Ss performance and rehearsal process, all three factors (respect, empathy, & resilience) come into "play" & r incredibly crucial to the outcome in music education.Skirting the question but answering it @ the same time #ksedchat
A3. Building trust between staff members. How do you get adults to like each other and respect what is happening in different classrooms even if it’s different than their own?!? #ksedchat
A2. Being my authentic self may be as simple wearing my tiedye and dressing casual because I am better teacher when I am not thinking about my attire. But it also paints a picture of my life to Ss of a more approachable adult when I am comfortable in my own skin. #ksedchat
A3) One thing I struggle with is confidence in what I am doing for my students. I tend to focus more than I should on what I could be doing differently/better and not what I am already doing that is working! #KSedchat
A3: something I want to get better at is involving parents. I’ve tried a few things but haven’t had anything miraculous that worked really well #KSedchat
That’s a good one, Hannah. You might not be able to get the adults to always like one other, but it’s easier to develop mutual respect if there is shared ownership in the school’s mission and vision. #ksedchat
A3) My recent move to higher education has broadened my student base from biology to all of STEM. "Inquiry first" just got a lot harder! Glad for my colleagues with other specialities, but I still want to get better myself. #ksedchat
A3: Students have a lot of great connections with teachers, but there is soooo much separation and cliquishness (wow that word does not look right!) among the students in each grade. I would like to help them make better connections with each other #KSedchat
What about hallway walks with staff? Where they draw names and take a five minute walk to get to know each other while walking around the building? #ksedchat
I could hear my name called in this text. People consider me an expert on PBL. I feel like it is something you always work on. I have not done much with personalized learning other than give students options. What questions do you have about PBL? #ksedchat
Some thing that help with engagement during math (and really any time) are Kagan Cooperative Learning structures, EPR, chances for movement, music, and manipulatives. #KSedchat
A3) I’d love to learn more about standards based learning, restorative justice, and how to shift nothing less than an entire school’s culture. #KSedchat
A3: I'm really working this year on simplicity. I tend to want to cram as much as I can into the school day and don't give the kids enough time to breathe and digest what we've done. #ksedchat
A3. I really want to do more themed teaching, or "units" that overlap in all areas of our classroom. And PBL. I want to bring more of a pbl approach to my classroom. #ksedchat
A1 problem-solving, patience, lifelong learner. My parents influenced me. Mrs. Florence Brown my second & third grade teacher show that to me. #ksedchat
Same!! Instagram and Twitter can just heighten that feeling. Looking at what all the other awesome educators are doing can make my actions seem so small but I am convinced that learning activities like #ksedchat shows that we educators are doing enough and working to improve.
Very tough. Maybe focus on how you can connect personally with them....show empathy and that the relationships are more important than the work? #ksedchat
A2) Creativity. I make parody videos about course concepts. Here is one where Spongebob discusses data encapsulation https://t.co/2nG8FJNTEI
I also make almost everything I hand out in class. Worksheets, study guides, etc. Not always perfect, but made from scratch. #ksedchat
3) struggling to determine when to interact with students when they start opening up and sharing vs if they are wasting time as an escape from school work. #ksedchat
A4. I am on a committee who is working to create shared process to meet goals we created as a community. Nothing is aligned right now though :( #ksedchat

A2: I try to model problem-solving in my classroom. I try to encourage my students to problem solve whether it is topics in class or topics that are effecting their lives. #ksedchat
A4: we share consistency as we have aligned our texts and writing assignments and strategies in our department. We also designed a new essay rubric this year. #ksedchat
A3. I want to become better at integrating college & career outside of me singularly & showing the relevance & all that can do within classrooms & acroos K-12 not just secondary & for students to think of future career as problem solvers in an are not just a job #Ksedchat
A4) Having building values makes it very fluid for Ss. They know that teachers are going to want to build relationships with them, that failing just means you just learned a way that doesn't work and that is OKAY! The value of faith is very fluid throughout CtK though. #ksedchat
259’s new superintendent has done a great job of creating a vision and mission that is easy to remember and recite so that even our youngest learners can be #WPSproud#ksedchat
A4) Our school does Restorative Justice as part of our Redesign, and I’m so thankful for the support and training that helped us start the school year strong! Definitely doable without school support, but so much easier to maintain when it is the expectation. #ksedchat
A4) We are struggling with a unified vision as a school, I’d say. I think everyone has the best intentions, but collective good practice is stronger than disparate good practices, I bet. #KSedchat
A4. The 3 values I shared were aimed at myself and integrate the school-wide values that our building is pursuing in regard to Relationships and Regulation and becoming a trauma-sensitive school. #ksedchat
You know it is a good chat when you go off on tangents with people in the chat. Gotta drop off but I loved chatting with you tonight. See you in a future #ksedchat
A4) We sure do! We carve time out of meetings regularly because it is important. Thanks @stcase!
Having a unified vision is key to how we train our teachers. #ksedchat
We sometimes do "peer review of teaching" where I work. We make a point to visit each other's class, observe teaching and give support and feedback to each other. It can be a challenge with scheduling, but well worth doing if you can pull it off. #ksedchat
A4 our district & our HS building is really working on culture & improving this to be better & better. We have had a lot of brainstorming type meetings & self reflection of where we are & where we want to head. #Ksedchat
A4: That's been one of the hardest parts of Redesign. We all value different things, so how do you agree on what we should value most as a school? We've had a lot of really tough conversations. #ksedchat

I really enjoy collaborating with colleagues when we share common interests. I'm a computer teacher and regularly work with someone in architecture. We're both at K-State and interested in visual design. We have great conversations and some really cool projects. #ksedchat
A5: I value the student who takes the opportunity and succeeds despite challenges and obstacles. They ask for help and encourage others along the way. #ksedchat

Dr. Schneider at our CTE has been a fantastic collaboration partner in the brief time I've been at KU thus far. Shared priorities and a collaborative attitude put me at my best professionally. #ksedchat
We have a formal program for peer review of teaching at K-State. I have been both a participant and a peer mentor. But also have informally visited others' classrooms many times as well. https://t.co/9VvTFewXhQ#ksedchat
In reply to
@Willmdunn, @KatherineTernes, @robertkaplinsky
A5) I value @misszeisler, @mrpscarver, @BMcDubb1, and @@russkahle for always being a sounding board for ideas and consistent voices of encouragement! @SFcrew373, you have been an amazing staff to join and I am privelaged to work with such incredible teachers! #ksedchat
I appreciate and admire @CaseyMMeier He frequently builds me up including nominating me for ECET2 last year. I'm also thankful for @dkline1103 and @LaurenK23 and all they do for our kids. #ksedchat also the leadership from @glenda_cowell and Joe Sailors
A3: I have a vocational math class that I think can do wonders but I need help on structuring it and finding curriculum ideas to keep my students engaged. #ksedchat
A5: I’ve been a sped teacher for 24 years, but a mother of kiddo with identified learning disabilities for 9 years. Bailey has made me a more compassionate and passionate advocate for my students. I can feel what my parents do #ksedchat
A5) Of corse there are too many to list, from coworkers to strangers I tweet at or email because I admire their work or read an article by them, but tonight I’ll highlight @beatmastermatt, @KentWire, @wheeler_laura, and @JudytaLarsen.
I hope you all check them out! #KSedchat
