Laura Deputy Headteacher West Sussex
-
fun doesn't have a start time
-
Hi Jeevan! Thanks for joining - even if an hour early :D :D :D
-
-
Hi Amie! Thanks for joining :)
-
Hi Laura! Thanks for joining tonight! :)
-
-
No worries, I love being back and involved in sharing best practice :)
-
-
-
Hello, ! I'm a curriculum and technology teacher from Ohio. :)
-
Hi mentors, hi everyone! It would be fantastic whether uploading more than one photo in the same post were possible.
-
-
Thought it was earlier than usual
-
-
a1: students are engaged, smiling, internally driven, and taking away information in a meaningful way.
-
It is! Our mistake -- had daylight savings this weekend in the US! Woops :P
-
A1: Fun learning is when pupils are positively engaged through active means of learning with use of various resources
-
-
-
A1 it is going to look like chaos in the classroom because students are engaged
-
Hello everyone! It would be fantastic if we could upload more than one photo in the same post in Class Story.
-
A1 - Lessons are engaging, relevant, enable creativity, encourage curiosity, where kids can explore and play!!
-
And that is beautiful thing that we like to call loud learning! ๐ฃ
-
A1: Learners/students are engaged, focused and energized as they are learning in a way that excites and motivates them
-
Yes it sure would!!! Working on it :) Hopefully soon
-
-
A1 When the children don't realise they are learning! Inspiring and allowing creativity
-
-
Great point on the creativity! It's basically essential to let students open their minds a bit!
-
-
-
Well this looks like fun!!
-
-
A1 it is sung tools that come from what excites students and not always what the school says to use https://t.co/2He4TV4tLD
-
It's FUN to be stealthy sometimes, right?! ๐
-
A2 play is the basis of how we learn. When you learn the most in life you were playing
-
I'm a little jealous of your class!
-
A2: Gives pupils the opportunity to express themselves in a different light. Learning isn't all textbooks but more exploring
-
-
A1 students are engaged and clearly want to discover more on what they are dipping
-
A1: making it enjoyable and different to the norm, whilst children still learn. Teaching to the needs and likes of children
-
-
a2: What do you remember about elementary school?
-
-
a2 fun brings all students interest up some level which is better than none
-
A2: STS learn easily when they play and fun .
-
A2: life is about enjoyment! How can children develop into holistic adults when they are disengaged and bored at school
-
This is beautiful! It's really about digging deeper and discovering the WHY as well!
-
Hi Erdem!! Thanks for joining :)
-
Hi Chris!!! Thanks for joining :)
-
-
A2 Education should not something regarded as boring and to be avoided but something enjoyable
-
Q2
We all learn from play from the very beginning of our life. If we make learning fun it sticks!
-
-
A2 We need to remember they are children! Play = what they do best and if we can create a fun environment they will learn better
-
A2: Play and fun in the classroom let children explore and find themselves and where their talents lie!
-
When students are excited to go to class it helps you connect with them on a deeper level!
-
-
And also to develop non academic skills such as fine gross motor skills, communication, teamwork etc
-
look at a pot of theories of learning, most deal with play at some point
-
I'm relatively fresh out of college and can't even think of an assignment on the top of my head!
-
Fun & play are memorable. Simple as that. Ask me about my favourite lesson as a pupil and I'll tell you the fun ones
-
Joining in Velia love admin.
-
-
yep traditional homework is useless
-
-
-
-
-
A2: best feeling ever when you hear the kids playing games on the yard related to your lesson!
-
-
A3: Active learning! are all amazing ways of getting children engaged through fun activity
-
Oh no! I'd probably want to forget one of those! ๐ณ
-
A2 - Without fun/play it's really difficult to push boundaries! Curiosity/motivation/excitement are all elevated when it's fun
-
-
A3: Let learners plan an ideal activity for future lessons in plenaries. Learning is then tailored to their needs based on them
-
A3 Listening to the interests! Using your own enthusiasm and going off on a tangent, sometimes ;)
-
A2Mr Kay, rewarding that your Ss are so engaged!
-
take risks. Tap into the interests of the children. Don't take yourself too seriously. I like mystery solving.
-
Oh cool! Do you have any specific examples?
-
in its most simplistic forms, play is natural inquiry based
-
-
A3 by making sure activities are active, engaging and something to talk about when they go home
-
how natural! Real learning, authentic, Ss are engaged and open
-
-
mostly Roman gladiator battle related! But when they were teaching some KS1 pupils a fraction game was the best!
-
This is a super important point and a great way to connect the classroom experience with the home!
-
-
-
A3 - I would always make sure kids could MOVE! Use their hands, work with others, and lessons related to their lives/interests
-
-
a3: Play with the kids! Let them lead! Use :
-
A3: Try to using different apps maybe sing a rap song. To Engage sts to all activities.
-
can't beat a good bit of noodling
-
is imperative to learning--playing with new topics and experiences to build confidence in learning.
-
A4: is a great way to incorporate technology into the classroom!
-
Sounds like you're basically hosting a classroom party! ๐
-
A4: Health Mentors use impact reports on computers to measure long term progress across 8 areas of development
-
A4: in PE we use iPads to analyse technique with , videos to show best practice and to answer questions
-
Learning is easier when you have something you relate to!
-
A4: Use of progress reviews on excel to process data from observations and develop essential computing skills with learners
-
lots of videoing role play. My class love using apps like sock puppets etc.
-
Thank You! Also helps ensure lesson is engaging as well as giving them something to look forward to
-
And when students have confidence in learning, the sky's the limit! ๐ซ
-
A4: Health Mentor's use technology in PE lessons through to motivate the children!
-
-
-
-
A5: Adapt them to suit the interests of ALL students whether than be different resources, tasks or groups to help them meet aims
-
-
With renewed focus on timestables, lots of frenzy activities, mixed with timer, strange noises & modernisation
-
A4: I use it during my numeracy intervention sessions and after school clubs by using .
-
I always like the idea of merging the two together! Like a student-made kahoot made on paper first! ๐
-
Kids love making power points to demonstrate their learning in my classroom
-
A5: Make it simple and different Integrate my classroom with students' needs.
-
The more kids create the more engaged their brains are thus learning occurs
-
-
A5 - Creativity isn't limited to technology. Traditional classrooms can still have a messy and creative personality!
-
Can't go wrong with a big piece of sugar paper for mind maps, although there are some amazing ipad apps
-
Peoplel are social creatures so have them chat more often and share ideas and knowledge
-
A6 - I think this goes back to really knowing your students and making the content relevant to their lives/cultures/interests
-
-
A6: Give them the opportunity to be the practitioner/ facilitator/ teacher to develop their skills further in a work environment
-
Competition is great if students can handle winning and losing
-
A6 keeping the fun relevant to their age group. Using music, films etc.
-
Do you ever find some of your students have problems with competition, even at the older age?
-
yes some do, not for everyone, but I find that they are generally more keen
-
A6: Same for younger learners, include humour and try and link it to interests. Don't patronise but get the attention.
-
We call this turning learners to leaders! ๐ https://t.co/xY9Nj5yd1I
-
-
A6: Give them the opportunity to be the practitioner/ facilitator/ teacher to develop their skills further in a work environment
-
A6 - PBL is pretty fantastic for all ages, but was wonderful for my high school students. Kept it challenging and inquiry based!
-
Yes all ages are competitive have work in pairs to complete task so competition but don't know where others are
-
-
That's good to hear! I know I love some healthy competitionโour company-wide Kahoot! sessions can get intense!
-
-
Yes! We should be encouraging the 'Learners to Leaders' loop early on, but it's VITAL as they get older!
-
I love PD sessions where we create things to take and use or just sharing on real ideas and things occurring in the classroom
-
A7: Health Mentors love a bit of competition within training sessions. As well as a spot of kareoke!
-
A7: make it active again! Teach how you would like to be taught and vice versa
-
chocolate, cake and silly games! Memory games work well
-
A7 - Make it actionable!! IMO what you learn at a PD should be something you can put into action straight away
-
I'd definitely be ready to learn after some chocolate and cake! ๐
-
A7 - Twitter chats, app-smashing, edcamps, teachmeets, etc. have really changed the game for teacher PD
-
Love this! It's basically common sense at a certain point!
-
A7: Competition & having fun. I'm setting up a staff sports club to get staff to have fun & get involved together through sport
-
There's so many ways to keep the world connected now! ๐
-
Love the idea of staff sports club may try that with my school
-
these are also the lessons that students remember and appreciate most
-
I think we need a basketball league with all of my coworkers! ๐
-
we did a staff running club an schools...staff went on to do & half marathons!
-
The final question is one minute away!
-
Yep! Teaching can be quite lonely if you don't have a supportive network of inspiring Ts to lean on/collaborate with
-
Keep fun: share , integrate , & invite students to their learning!
-
Hoping to also get a staff talent show or dance group to perform to children to show we have fun too!
-
-
A1 -Engaging learners using different tasks. Sometimes giving them a choice
-
A2 - They make learning fun and happy minds produce good work
-
My own children do group projects at home with google docs and facetime
-
Do you have any specific examples of some choices your students were allowed to make?
-
A3 - Different tasks, outdoor learning, collaborative tasks
-
A4 - ipads in P.E to help with peer and self assessment
-
A8: Use of outdoors to get children active and outdoors whilst learning about maths. Forest school for teamwork etc
-
A8: by integrating fun videos, texts which are telated to your course into your lesson
-
A5 - Pupils assessing their own and others work
-
A8 - Oh absolutely! Loved brining my kids outside during a lesson- growing a school garden, nature walks, launching rockets, etc
-
I believe it's so important to use , , & to extend , !
-
A6 - give them responsibility to plan and deliver different parts of lessons
-
A7: Treat PD like you treat your lessons! Let THEM play with the tools and try it out! Let THEM do the talking. Let THEM learn!
-
A8: every lesson could be taught outside... using chalk on the playground?!
-
A8: Using Flight School to take learning into the outside world away from a classroom "Out of school learning"
-
We use choice boards so students pick which assignment ie writing drawing poster power point for spelling and vocab
-
I completely agree with this! It helps give real life examples to things students are learning!
-
A8: Yes, using ghost mode. They can practice at home.
-
A8 - We'd hope that our students would grow a curiosity to continue to learn wherever they are! Whenever!
-
A8: Yes! Use nature.Use the sun and shadows for a science experiment. Include activities that aren't suitable for the classroom
-
If we can teach students how much fun it is to learn, they'll likely take that with them the rest of their lives!
-
a1 engagement, returning to the task
