CatholicEdChat is a twitter chat. Topics focus on discussions around educational issues for Catholic Educators and topics beneficial to Catholic Schools. We look forward to continuing to connect Catholic Educators online to discuss education and teaching with faith in our schools. The chat takes place on Saturday mornings. Time 9am EST.
Good Morning! Happy to be joining #CatholicEdChat from St. Louis today. I'm a LS principal so already back at work. Excited to start teacher meetings next week!
Good morning #CatholicEdChat! I’m on my way to Indy for a wedding so I’m just saying hi while I’m stopped for a minute. Missed you guys in July! Hopefully I can join in next week. Have a fabulous day!!
Tweeting from my BIL and SIL’s house in Oklahoma. My favorite memory from the summer is visiting the kids and posing with my friend Ignatius. #CatholicEdChat
Tweeting from the San Francisco Bay Area, I am the Associate Head of School for Academics at Notre Dame HS in Belmont--an all girls school sponsored by the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur and my favorite memory was a surprise trip to visit a friend in San Antonio #CatholicEdChat
#catholicedchat Our Lady of Mercy Regional Catholic School in Maple Glen, PA part of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. My wife and I spent two wonderful weeks in Italy in July.
I'm a LS principal in St. Louis at an all girl school. My favorite summer memory... All the time with my kiddos. I have a driver in the family now too, SOOO that's fun. #CatholicEdChat
A1 our communications director runs @BrebeufJesuit and would be better able to answer. I would say that a clear idea of audience and mode of communication is important. you dont post student information to FB and you dont ask for big donations on snapchat :) #catholicedchat
A1: We have a team that works together on setting goals so that all parts of the school are represented. It's always important to me to make the process "user friendly" for Ts and convenient for Ps. #CatholicEdChat
A1 another goal with my @Room113SMM account is connecting with authors. We have a Skype call already lined up with @karalareau this fall! #CatholicEdChat
A1. Our communication strategy is to share the story of St. Margaret Mary School. To acknowledge the good work happening inside. To make connections. #catholicedchat
A1: I would agree with @jdferries that our @NDBTigers accounts are run with audience in mind. Our Dir of M & C is really good about focusing on message, audience, and desired outcome each time. #CatholicEdChat

A1 finding the different ways to express a common theme or goal...this allows teachers, students, staff to become part of the messaging without being inauthentic. Its always more powerful when we can set the theme and say "go tell your story" #catholicedchat
Q1: I will teach at a new school this year, and my new school has no social media presence - not even a Facebook page. IMO, Catholic schools have THE best product with the worst marketing. Goals=look at all stakeholders and decide what info they need to know. #CatholicEdChat
A1: It's important to ALWAYS be telling our story. Families have so many choices, the more positive media we can keep out there about our schools, the better. #CatholicEdChat

thats a great way to start...before that, i might even analyze the need as "what is our story that must be shared with the community (not just constituents)?" - gets to the heart of a mission discussion but important. 1/2 #catholicedchat
2/2 We have tried window-dressing messaging in the past that always rang hollow and was difficult to get teachers/students to amplify. Knowing who you are is key to knowing what you must say. #catholicedchat#heylookitsasoapbox
A2: One of my goals is to amplify our school voice so I retweet our school account as well as our Ts who are tweeting several times a week. I use @IFTTT to help out #CatholicEdChat
A1: Goal=to communicate the mission of the school. B4 u post or tweet, think about how it reflects the charism of your school. Helpful to post pics of kids w/no explanation? No. However, explain how the service project connects to your mission, that is worthwhile. #CatholicEdChat
A1 volunteering is important at @SMMschoolOmaha Here are some students in a Confirmation faith group delivering textbooks to classrooms. #CatholicEdChat
A2 Really? only one? https://t.co/1ipNJAzGll - we balance the sappy and the silly on our youtube channel in order to keep people interested in what we are posting and why. #catholicedchat
A2: we don’t have much of a social media presence at the school. But we are building a culture of readers so I try to support that on my personal accounts #catholicedchat
Our Dir of M & C does the same with our IG account and FB Alum page. Keeping the story fresh, relevant, and interesting is key. #itshardwork#CatholicEdChat

A2. Sharing posts on social media to inspire others by our activity. Share pics of student drives for soldiers, the poor, Mass activities. #CatholicEdChat
We lived streamed the dedicated of the media center
@stjamesregional on Facebook - Sharing this with the community that supported it was important! #catholicedchat

I feel many of my tweets support Sacred Heart goal #2: A deep respect for intellectual values. I share science news, learning strategies, follow various scientists, etc. #CatholicEdChat
A2: By sharing what is unique to Catholic schools, and to your school in particular. Use images from your campus to tell your story to the world. Highlight the missionary discipleship happening in your building —> service, praying, Mass, Stations of the Cross, etc #CatholicEdChat

Catholic schools of the @oakdiocese so honored to serve our amazing schools. Diocesan gathering of educators Aug 17 at our beautiful Cathedral. #CatholicEdChat
A5: our SM campaign uses multiple platforms. As was mentioned earlier, you need to connect hour message with your audience. Ps, Ss, Alums, potential donors are all in different places. You can find @NDBTigers on FB, IG, Snap, Twitter, YouTube. #CatholicEdChat
A1 There are three of us that do the communication piece through social media. I send out an email weekly to parents and students. Hope to return to my blog this year. #CatholicEdChat
A5: FB for parents. Instagram and Snapchat for Ss. Twitter for professional sharing. My fav is Twitter bc sometimes being a Catholic school educator is lonely, and connecting professionally w/other Catholic school educators (PLN) is a gift. #CatholicEdChat
A5. Not sure yet. At Spalding Catholic, my former school @SpaldingSchool, FB was most effective. If followers see what they like, it becomes the medium of choice, I think. #catholicedchat
A5 We’ve only had Facebook, but I have created Instagram and Twitter accounts. I would love to know how people post in multiple places. #CatholicEdChat
A6: we actually have little cards that are available in our Admissions Office and Front Office with all of our account info. Wish I had a picture to drop in #notpreparedforclass#CatholicEdChat
A7: Our Director for M & C is ultimately responsible, but program areas run their own SM and he will cross post. Also, Ts are encouraged to forward info to him for posting. Ultimately, it's everyone's job or we will be out of a job. #CatholicEdChat
Q7: Kind of complicated for us. We have an actual marketing department but most social media activity is done by myself, athletics, admissions, and the #WeAreVizLS and #WeAreVizMontessori Ts. I am actually very proud of the way my Ts have embraced this platform. #CatholicEdChat
A7. Communications director and principal have official responsibilities for school wide. But remember, we have @BarbInNebraska on our staff! #catholicedchat
Be sure to let families and students know your social media handles - remind often, post to website and email signatures to keep it at hand! #catholicedchat

I think it’s best for teachers to use different platforms for different purposes. For instance, I use Twitter strictly for a professional LN #catholicedchat. Facebook and Instagram for family and friends. Pinterest for everything!
