Phil from Northern Virginia signing in. I teach 7th grade US History II and am the founder of #waledchat which meets Thursdays at 9pm ET. Spent a lot of time this year learning how to better integrate tech into the classroom. #LearnLAP@ERobbPrincipal@gett_marissa@KGT_Educator
I'm Paul Solarz, a 5th grade teacher from Arlington Heights, Illinois and the author of #LearnLAP. Excited to have @Mtiesworth moderating this evening & excited to get back to school tomorrow after a very relaxing Spring Break!
I’m Steve, a Tech Integrator from Canandaigua, NY. I love to use technology in the classroom. When it works it’s great! When it doesn’t, we fail forward! #LearnLAP
A1: I do not think there needs to be a paperless classroom for a student centered classroom but there should be tech components involved in it. Our Ss will be using tech in THEIR future. Time for us to let go of OUR past. #LearnLAP@ERobbPrincipal@KGT_Educator@PaulSolarz
A1 I don’t think it’s necessary because there are so many things we can do with our creative minds but it certainly helps and is a disservice to kids if we don’t in this day and age #Learnlap
A1: At this point yes! In order for students to be prepared for their future, we are doing a disservice if students don’t have access to #edtech. That being said, tech must be used effectively and purposefully. Having students type or make slides isn’t enough #LearnLAP
A1: I don't think technology is necessary to create a student-centered classroom. The relationship with the student is the necessary part. Technology can definitely enhance it if used in the right way. #learnLAP
A1. Technology has the ability to strengthen classroom community and student empowerment. If used incorrectly, it can become an expensive piece of garbage! If you’re not letting the Ss create, collaborate, and strengthen their skills — you do not have a Ss centered CR. #LearnLAP
A1: I don't know that I would call technology *necessary* for student centered, but I would definitely say it's extremely helpful in that it brings in tools that help give Ss more choice! #learnlap
A1: I don’t believe it is necessary. I believe it is conducive to learning and adds a piece of relevance you don’t get with pen and paper. There are levels of tech integration, each one provides Ss with different experiences and practice improving necessary skills #LearnLAP
A1. I do think technology is necessary to create a successful student centered classroom. I think this, because technology makes it easy for teacher and student to work together in real time. I like technology because it cuts down on paper. Save the trees! #LearnLAP
A1 Not at all! Some Ts have had student centered classrooms before technology was a buzz word. Putting Ss first and giving them voice and choice helps make a student centered classroom. #LearnLAP
A1. No, there are plenty of tech filled classrooms that are not S centered. Tech is an excellent tool, but it doesn’t make a classroom S centered. #learnlap
A1: No! Technology can not replace great teaching, but it can make great teachers transformational. Tech can’t build relationships either. Significant learning can only take place with significant relationships. #LearnLAP
A1 I don't think it is, there are so many ways to empower Ss with choices that are hands on non tech, Ss ideas, we need to focus on the relationships being created, and then build, tech can be a catalyst for engagement, or giving Ss a voice #learnlap
A1- I don't think it is necessary, but it does enhance it. A classroom that is student centered is about the kids more than the tech. That being said, don't try to take my tech away!
#learnlap
A1:
I think it depends upon the setting. As a fine arts teacher, there are many days....weeks when we really don’t need to touch our technology. It can enhance the student-centered nature. #LearnLAP
A1 I am a big fan of using Tech with a purpose. If I can do something better, simpler or more efficiently I am all about it. Nothing will replace hands-on lab work and face-to-face discussion, but @PhETsims and all the formative tech tools have made my life easier. #LearnLAP
A1 I can only speak for myself, but in my case, yes, tech is necessary to create a student-centered classroom. It keeps my students engaged and on task. They can pursue their interests to a degree. Without it, I would lose some of them, maybe many of them. #learnLAP
A1 Technology helps empower students and helps amplify their voice and learning. A true student-centered classroom begins with a shift in mindset and by leading with heart. Tech will then transform lives, allow for global collaborations and making huge impact. #LearnLAP
A1 Necessary no but it sure does make it easier. Technology opens opportunities for global connections, collaborations, and different ways of seeing the world. #learnlap
A1. Technology has the ability to strengthen classroom community and student empowerment. If used incorrectly, it can become an expensive piece of garbage! If you’re not letting the Ss create, collaborate, and strengthen their skills — you do not have a Ss centered CR. #LearnLAP
A1 pt 2, tech also can provide more choices for Ss in learning, promote creativity, global connections, build #digcit skills and empower Ss with the . variety of options, #learnlap
A1: Technology is a great tool to provide learning experiences otherwise not afforded: VR Field trips, access to other classrooms and experts that can provide opportunities to strengthen the 4Cs and digital citizenship skills. Open windows to the world. #LearnLAP
A1: Student choice, open discussion, collaboration, reflection...that’s my idea of S centered. If tech makes those easier, then I’m all in on a program. #LearnLAP
A1: Necessary, maybe not. Does it make it easier, YES! As long as you keep the pedagogy first, use the Tech to make it engaging and transformed. #LearnLAP
A1 - Tech can certainly help to highlight students in a classroom, but a successful student centered classroom has to be intentional from the teacher's learning objectives and curation. Tech is a tool to meet the needs of a student centered classroom. #edtrex#learnlap
A1. I don’t think it’s necessary. Too often Ts think that using tech makes it better but fail to use tech purposefully. I’d rather have a well executed lesson sans tech then a tech full lesson that lacks purpose #LearnLAP
Socrates created one of the oldest teaching methods ... Socratic Method by just standing there and asking questions ... tell me how important tech is? #learnlap
A1 I love giving Ss options to create a more immersive experience/lesson for peers, using tools like @nearpod , but only using tech when purposeful #learnlap
A1: In today’s climate of student driven learning, using technology to provide opportunity for Ss to explore content outside their 4 classroom walls enhances learning greatly. It is not “necessary” but it does provide more creative opportunities. #learnlap
A1 Don't use technology for the sake of using technology... but #edtech can greatly benefit many lessons! Our Ss already collaborate primarily using tech, so we need to figure out how to get on that wavelength! #learnlap
A1. Yes, if we want to keep up globally with learning around the world. The technology is useful for research, communication, projects, Ss are keeping track of their own learning on timelines, doing assessments, and testing. #learnlap
TOPIC: "Increasing Personal Rigor Through Student Choice."
If you're around Twitter tomorrow evening at this time, I hope you might stop by #5thchat! @teachchoice will be moderating! All grades welcome!
TUESDAY, April 3rd at 7pm Central.
#LearnLAP
A1. Tech is a tool to augment what the T does. It provides the students learning opportunities and creation opportunities and even allows them to reach a global audience. It’s not required to create a successful student centered classroom but it does help. #LearnLAP
A1: Technology has allowed me to eliminate lectures. This has facilitated a self-paced environment that prioritize revisions and #mastery. Students have complete control of their learning and I act as a facilitator. Without #edtech this would not be possible #LearnLAP
I think there's a large spectrum between no tech and paperless and finding that balance where our technology is helpful but not overwhelming is so important!
In reply to
@MrPStrunk, @ERobbPrincipal, @KGT_Educator, @PaulSolarz
A1: Technology certainly helps us connect with our students’ world. However, if teachers have connections, engaging lessons and strong relationships chalk will work too! 🙌🏽#LearnLAP
A1:Tech is a great tool but it can never replace the role of an engaging, passionate, positive teacher who fosters positive relationships and encourages learning beyond the classroom walls. Tech is an equalizer than enhances opportunities we didn't know where possible. #learnlap
Q2: What do you think are the biggest benefits of using technology in a student centered environment? -Differentiation, Engagement, Student Voice, Student Choice, Feedback? Do you have a recent example to share? #learnLAP
A1: In our developing society, I think that technology is something that students are/will need to continue to be familiar with. I think technology has the ability to let students take control of their own learning through the various educational online resources #learnLAP
A1 If student centered includes making a student successful for the world they live in, technology is a necessary component. Like it or love, students deserve to be literate of the world they live in. #learnlap
A1: Student-centered means that the necessity of tech is led by the needs of the learners😊Students use tech daily and they may view it as necessary #LearnLAP
A1) I don't think tech is necessary because there are many ways to put students front and center while keeping them engaged, but technology makes things possible and easier for teachers. #LearnLAP
A1: I don’t think it’s necessary, but it’s really important. I think it makes teaching more fun, more engaging & easier. Some Ts are still scared of it. Nonetheless, we owe it to our students. #edTech is unavoidable. #LearnLAP
I substitute a lot in our client schools and I normally confiscate phones on the first day. A smart student (politely) suggested I shouldn't because in life the distractions of phones will be there. So I think helpful over necessary.
A1: sometimes tech takes away from it being student centered. Sometimes we use tech as a crutch when students could be using tea materials to build, test, manipulate, experiment with. #LearnLAP
Exactly. And we should never discount the importance of making our job easier. When I gain time I can use it on other important items like conferencing with Ss and providing feedback. #LearnLAP
A2: I have loved using tech to allow for student innovation. It has allowed for me to develop opportunities for students to share their voice and choice. Whether that is through a menu activity, class blog, or an exhibit design, there are lots of great ways to help! #LearnLAP
a1 In order to give all Ss the learning advantages tech can afford, it's getting to be t-h-a-t imp bc Ss can learn more, faster in many cases. #LearnLAP
Natalia from Argentina. Q1 necessary? I love technology but this question makes me wonder if without technology is not possible student centered learning #LearnLAP
A1 Maybe not necessary for all classes and activities but when used with purpose it certainly can allow for more options, choices, and learning paths. #LearnLAP
A2: I think one of the most underutilized opportunities that tech offers is the chance to conference face to face with students 1 on 1 while the rest of the class is using the tech. Build relationships!
#LearnLAP
A1 | I don't, but it enriches learning, and facilitates independent exploration of concepts being taught. In wanting my students to be engaged in a concept, tech can support their growth in the understanding of information, and make them leaders of learning. #learnlap
A2 Tech helps give students voice and make global contributions and connections! Students are currently discussing social justice books with others across the nation!! #learnlap
A2 Tech in a student-centered classroom allows for Ss to be the leaders in their learning. It lets them take ownership, responsibility & accountability. You can differentiate, engage & amplify their voice & choice. @Flipgrid is one example of eliminating world barriers. #LearnLAP
Q2: What do you think are the biggest benefits of using technology in a student centered environment? -Differentiation, Engagement, Student Voice, Student Choice, Feedback? Do you have a recent example to share? #learnLAP
A2 most recently, having Ss present their #pbl and sharing the info they got by the connections we made thru @edmodo@Flipgrid and learning about the #SDGs , all possible and made more authentic/personal thru #edtech#learnlap
A2. Using tech now for a project based digestive unit. It’s providing choice in accessing content, choice in project creation, and as a result is also providing differentiation. It also provides access to unreachable content like using Expeditions to take VR field trips #LearnLAP
A2 The possibilities of going beyond the classroom walls and connecting Ss to the real world! Ss in other countries, Authors, scientists, businessmen, etc. #LearnLAP
Q2: What do you think are the biggest benefits of using technology in a student centered environment? -Differentiation, Engagement, Student Voice, Student Choice, Feedback? Do you have a recent example to share? #learnLAP
A2 I am teaching Newton's Laws using a #hyperdoc. By building the assignment in a doc that Ss have, they can work at their own pace. I have Google Form Checks for Understandings build in. I have time to conference with Ss, since they have all that they need. #LearnLAP
A1: I think we have to meet students where they are and technology is super intergraded in their lives. I believe that when we use what matters to them, we build a better learning environments #LearnLAP
A2 those global connections are so important, and the ability to have choices in how to show learning, to become the leaders in the CR and develop confidence, comfort, feel valued in learning #learnlap
A2 - Student voice and feedback. Just simple tech adds like Google Docs can have a lasting impact on collaboration and feedback, but are easy to implement given you have the classroom tools (laptops, etc). Honestly if we can add to student voice, then tech is worth it. #learnlap
#LearnLAP A2 Engagement. We have been able to bring the world to our Ss. Our classes have visited Canada, Russia, France, Israel, Sweden & Denmark this year. Practiced geography skills & then shared culture with each other through conversation.
A2: I love sharing in-the-moment feedback, but tech also allows our kids voice and creativity presenting. How cool is it that we can guide them as they explore and grow! #LearnLAP
Q2: What do you think are the biggest benefits of using technology in a student centered environment? -Differentiation, Engagement, Student Voice, Student Choice, Feedback? Do you have a recent example to share? #learnLAP
a2 I can monitor Ss as they work with one monitor & project anonymously w/the other. This saves time running around the room, "Hi Jo, did you miss the negative on problem 4?" #learnlap
A2: All of the above. Depending on the tools used, students can have choice, produce products for authentic audience, research based on inquiry...all of these will engage students #LearnLAP
#learnlap A1: Is tech "necessary" for a student-centered classroom? Absolutely not. Why not? We'd be saying there was no student centered classroom before.....what....1990? (When was the advent of "technology?") Sheer hubris, IMO.
A2: Choice, voice, audience, collaboration, engagement. It can all be possible if lessons are designed thoughtfully and effectively. https://t.co/JTDJMFysij#LearnLAP
A2: Engaging students on their terms. They may not care at all about what they are learning about- but if they are using method they are comfortable with or enjoy- we have a great chance of facilitating some authentic learning #LearnLAP
A2: Technology facilitates self-paced units and allows teachers to truly implement mastery based grading. The teacher is free to engage in small group and individual discussion that focuses on reflection, revision and reassessment. Honest differentiation #LearnLAP
A2 use tech to deliver instruction when possible to free up teacher to guide and provide more independent learning options. I recorded lessons and was able to spend more time working 1:1 with Ss #LearnLAP
A2- Whether using @Flipgrid as a platform from students to share ideas, #hyperdocs to provide choice, @Classcraft to create a collab classrom, or google apps for feedback and collab projects, I use #edtech hourly!. #learnlap
A2: Overall, I think differentiation is one of the biggest benefits. I taught ELA last year for one pd. We can send a program for reading that I loved bc I it assessed levels and adjusted as Ss progressed, plus I could hand select what I wanted each student to focus on. #learnlap
Q2: What do you think are the biggest benefits of using technology in a student centered environment? -Differentiation, Engagement, Student Voice, Student Choice, Feedback? Do you have a recent example to share? #learnLAP
A2) Tech makes it easier for student to express their voice and share their thoughts/ discuss with students beyond our classroom. Tech also allows students to experience things that they might not otherwise. #LearnLAP
A2. I love using tech as a collaborative tool. Most of my Ss like using google docs to write because they can work with others to receive feedback on their work. I have Ss sending me stuff over spring break asking for feedback. #LearnLAP
Q2: What do you think are the biggest benefits of using technology in a student centered environment? -Differentiation, Engagement, Student Voice, Student Choice, Feedback? Do you have a recent example to share? #learnLAP
A2: My favs are engagement, student voice, & feedback. My Ss recorded a reflection of their work in #gsuiteedu in @Screencastify, turn the recording into a QR code, attach the code to their work, & share to a Slides deck. This allows all Ss in on the learning process. #learnlap
Q2: What do you think are the biggest benefits of using technology in a student centered environment? -Differentiation, Engagement, Student Voice, Student Choice, Feedback? Do you have a recent example to share? #learnLAP
A1: I think a successful student centered classroom depends on the mindset of its participants, not on the resources available. Students who want to learn will engage and succeed.I think it's all about achieveing learner engagement. Tech helps but it's not the only way #LearnLAP
A2. I think the biggest benefits of using technology is engagement. It is easy for students to have different learning experiences compared to pen and paper. Technology allows for students to interact virtually anywhere. #LearnLAP
A2: Differentiation!!! In my AP Spanish class we use @Newsela leveled readers to prep for the exam and we also use @Flipgrid for speaking practice #LearnLAP
A2: I found benefit in the student choice, S paced lessons at their level! Being able to differentiate lessons by learning style and accommodate all Ss needs. Also immediate feedback to Ss was a game changer. I felt as though I could be in more than one place at a time! #LearnLAP
#LearnLAP A2 We have had “cultural conversations.” HS CE class engaged with a class from Monterrey Mexico on current issues and this Wed. 4/4, our sociology class will be discussing gender inequality with a class from Argentina 🇦🇷.
A2: I think that the biggest benefit is student engagement, and that stems from the students being given choice. Recently I worked with 5th graders on a natural disasters project & the students LOVED finding genuine resources on their own & sharing these with the class. #learnLAP
Q2: What do you think are the biggest benefits of using technology in a student centered environment? -Differentiation, Engagement, Student Voice, Student Choice, Feedback? Do you have a recent example to share? #learnLAP
A2. Differentiation of lessons and feedback! If a Ss might be a a higher level of learning than his peers in math, then we can tech videos on computer which meets his learning needs compared to the other Ss in class are on a reg. track. Communicating Q and F on Assign. #learnlap
A2: For me, it is preparing my "littles" to be successful moving forward. I don't have a picture, however two of my centers are the Osmo and iPads. #LearnLAP
A2: I'm currently experimenting with a new strategy where the Ss have a "menu" of activities to pick from - some web based some paper, some individual and some group - and these choices would be SO difficult to facilitate without an LMS like @Schoology! #LearnLAP
Q2: What do you think are the biggest benefits of using technology in a student centered environment? -Differentiation, Engagement, Student Voice, Student Choice, Feedback? Do you have a recent example to share? #learnLAP
A2 All of the above. But for the majority of my students, I think the biggest overall benefit is engagement. For some of them, this is their first time really using tech to learn. It's like a whole new world for them. #learnLAP
A2: I love how easily EdTech makes it for student differentiation (G. Classroom), love student engagement (NearPod, Screencastify, Classcraft), Voice (FlipdGid, Screencastify, Socrative, Padlet) and FB (Screencastify, G Suite) #LearnLAP
Q2: What do you think are the biggest benefits of using technology in a student centered environment? -Differentiation, Engagement, Student Voice, Student Choice, Feedback? Do you have a recent example to share? #learnLAP
A2: Students utilize technology because they like feedback. Students play video games, fail and keep trying because they want to improve. We need to capitalize on that and use tech more as a tool for feedback. Feedback can improve learning and enhance curiosity. #learnlap
Q3: In review of the PIRATE acronym:
-Peer Collaboration
-Improvement Focus
-Responsibility
-Active Learning
-Twenty First Century Skills
-Empowerment
Which part of the PIRATE acronym is amplified most by technology in your classroom?
#learnLAP
#learnlap A2: Reflection. I give Ss a prompt to reflect on....they can give a personalized response. Allows for introspection on emotional awareness, learning process, goal setting, goal adjustments, etc.. All private between Ss and me. It's not about math....it's about the S.
A2 #edtech can enable collaboration with unprecedented flexibility. Remember catching a ride from your Ps to work on a project at a friend's house? #edtech helps our Ss tackle that work anytime, anywhere! #learnlap
A2- Each choice has its advantages but my favorites are the power of student voice and feedback that can stretch beyond the artificial boundaries of our school buildings. #learnLAP
A2) I love how many different website and apps their are that allow us to differentiate so much easier in an elementary classroom. When we have so many subjects to teach in one day it relieves some stress and so many more resources one can use! #LearnLAP
A2: Using it as an assistive device, allowing ss to share thoughts quickly and efficiently, being able to see things that are 1, too far away, too big, to small to see, using tech to find, interpret, and evaluate info. #LearnLAP
A2. Having technology for differentiation is huge! I can create assignments to different groups (when I was teaching the journeys reading program, each group had their own Google Classroom where I could post assignments.#LearnLAP
A2: I love that #edtech allows for student choice AND the ability to do so much creating and collaborating. It’s been a beautiful shift in the way we teach! #learnlap
Q3: In review of the PIRATE acronym:
-Peer Collaboration
-Improvement Focus
-Responsibility
-Active Learning
-Twenty First Century Skills
-Empowerment
Which part of the PIRATE acronym is amplified most by technology in your classroom?
#learnLAP
A2 | Hands down, student voice. I have seen different tools make certain students shine in areas they might not have previously. @Flipgrid for my quieter students, and Google Translate for my ELLs. #learnLAP
A2: Provides students with immersive experiences and brings them to places they otherwise wouldn't see. Personalized, student centered, differentiated and meaningful. Here is lesson I created to use with an 8th grade ELA Class: https://t.co/3lt4NwuAVW#LearnLAP

#learnLAP
#LearnLAP A2 We have also brought Primary Source Speakers into our HS SS classes. They shared their stories with our students. It has engaged them in the study of history and brought relevancy to the subject.
A3: I would say 21st Century Skills. So much of what our students will do will center around tech and they will be competing with tech for jobs. Knowing how to effectively use them will allow them to build and develop a longterm path to success and innovation! #LearnLAP
A3. If I were to have my own classroom right now, I would want peer collaboration to be amplified most by technology. I think it is important for students to work not only together, but work well with each other. #LearnLAP
A3: Currently, 21st century leading skills. Learning how to log in and use a Chromebook, use a mouse/touchscreen, how to talk to a camera with a mic have been a big focus--but there's so much more to do! #learnLAP
A2.3
(Character count is not my friend tonight.) In Drama the biggest benefit is student voice and reflection. We video a lot of our rehearsals, performances, and post for peer feedback and personal reflection. #LearnLAP
A2 my fav tech student voice right now is what i have named Collaborative Conversations!I create a table or (?) on a google doc&share it via google clrom & kids collaborate on ONE DOC!! Oh, the life-changing benefits!! So so so many uses !! My new fav(flipgrid, too!) 💚#learnLAP
A3 I struggle with choices! All of the above ;) I would say empowerment bc Ss are using it to drive their inquiry based learning, seek resources, create using diff tools, they know how to leverage the tech, promotes #stuvoice#learnlap
A3: I am hoping to see the improved focus most with the way I'm using tech to facilitate more choice... if they get to choose their method of practice, hopefully that will lead to increased engagement! #LearnLAP
Q3: In review of the PIRATE acronym:
-Peer Collaboration
-Improvement Focus
-Responsibility
-Active Learning
-Twenty First Century Skills
-Empowerment
Which part of the PIRATE acronym is amplified most by technology in your classroom?
#learnLAP
A3 Empowerment-Ss empowered to make choices in what they learned (subject) and when. Also empowered to choose how they would share what they learned. #LearnLAP
Q3: In review of the PIRATE acronym:
-Peer Collaboration
-Improvement Focus
-Responsibility
-Active Learning
-Twenty First Century Skills

Which part of the PIRATE acronym is amplified most by technology in your classroom?
#learnLAP
A3. Any really. But ATE seem to be most - tech is a lot of 21 cent skill (like coding), which forces active learning. Using tech empowers student to share their voice via a platform like @Flipgrid or @YouTube. #LearnLAP
Q3: In review of the PIRATE acronym:
-Peer Collaboration

Which part of the PIRATE acronym is amplified most by technology in your classroom?
#learnLAP
A2. Tech is amazing for collaborating outside our 4 walls! Kids tweet learning, Skype, participate@in a classroom collaboration with math being emphasis and use @flipgrid for booktalks #LearnLAP
A3: As a middle school teacher, each of the PIRATE items are essential, but even with using tech, not will be ascertained through osmosis - they must be explicitly taught, regardless of tool. #LearnLap
Hi all! Sorry I'm jumping in late, was reviewing readings for my wedding 😁 @everfi technology implementation coach I ❤️ working with educators across PA & WV #learnlap
I'm the K-12 Tech Director/Integration Coach for @FEAS_Panthers in NorthWest Michigan. My passion is evolving from the nuts and bolts of technology into the empowerment and advocation of students!
#learnLAP
A3 - Peer Collaboration. I do a lot of team based learning and my students use different online platforms and tools to create, edit, and develop projects together. This amplifies their learning and if played right, they develop great relationships along the way. #learnlap
A3 1st Peer Collaboration - my students learn more than just content by working together. Their ideas are better, and they communicate better as a team. 2nd Empowerment - my students are excited to have tech in their toolbox to use with their future students. #learnLAP
A3: Empowerment. Providing students access to research, to network, to collaborate beyond the school and to enhance choice is what can take students to places they never thought were possible. Empower them to pursue their passion and watch their future become reality. #learnlap
A3) For me I think the students feel empowered & love the independence when they use tech. Im personally working on ways to develop peer collaboration beyond the classroom with technology & diving into ways to having students connect with other students/ classrooms! #LearnLAP
A2 Technology provides so many benefits. One recent example is the growth of student voice & oral proficiency in my ELL SS from using @Flipgrid. My Ss are more confident, speak more, and begin using oral English much earlier than if forced to go in front of the class. #learnlap
A3: Yes to all!! Tech has the amazing ability to enhance a host of skills. But if I had to pick one, it would be developing my Ss to become productive, disciplined, all around awesome digital citizens. #LearnLAP
A3: When technology is implemented appropriately students spend less time staring at a screen and more time collaborating with each other. The classroom becomes controlled chaos where collaboration is integral to success #LearnLAP
A3: 21st Century skills. #Edtech let’s my kids create amazing products to show their learning. They are able to use tech to showcase and to problem-solve for themselves. #LearnLAP
Q3: In review of the PIRATE acronym:
-Peer Collaboration
-Improvement Focus
-Responsibility
-Active Learning
-Twenty First Century Skills
-Empowerment
Which part of the PIRATE acronym is amplified most by technology in your classroom?
#learnLAP
A3: 21 Century skills & Peer Collaboration! Tech can open opportunities for connections & strengthening of skills that go beyond traditional education strategies #LearnLAP
A3: I found that my lessons with tech gave my freshman Ss more freedom/choice and with that comes more responsibility. Not only with physically taking care of the tech but being respectful with online posts and comments as well as staying focused and on task throughout. #LearnLAP
A3 Technology has certainly enhanced peer collaboration in my classroom. Students who are working together will set a time after school to continue to work together. #LearnLAP
A3 In truth, all PIRATE elements are amplified by technology. I feel out of all, EMPOWERMENT is the most prominent. If used correctly with a strong pedagogy and with heart, tech helps empower students to learn, to connect, to make a difference, to be leaders. #LearnLAP
Q3: In review of the PIRATE acronym:
-Peer Collaboration
-Improvement Focus
-Responsibility
-Active Learning
-Twenty First Century Skills

Which part of the PIRATE acronym is amplified most by technology in your classroom?
#learnLAP
A2. Tech is amazing for collaborating outside our 4 walls! Kids tweet learning, Skype, participate@in a classroom collaboration with math being emphasis and use @flipgrid for booktalks #LearnLAP
A3. Empowerment and active learning. Ss are empowered to lead and help each other, actively learning by doing, testing , observing, experimenting, making, designing! #learnlap
A3 With #edtech peer collaboration comes quickly and empowerment comes organically, and with amazing impact. That empowerment feeds back into the success of #edtech in the classroom! #learnlap
A1 I’m pondering “necessary”. 💭 Can you share student voice effectively without technology? Prolly -skillfully, yes! Does tech help - provide needed documentation of said Voice, yes! Necessary ... hmm 🤔 #Learnlap
A2: Also find it faster to share information! I can send a S something to work on, they can send it right back to me. Gives U
Ss opportunity to work whenever and wherever! #LearnLAP
A3: tough for me to select just one! The overall goal of our work is to provide not only Ts the skills and confidence to integrate resources but for the Ss to engage with critical life skills #learnlap
Q3: In review of the PIRATE acronym:
-Peer Collaboration
-Improvement Focus
-Responsibility
-Active Learning
-Twenty First Century Skills
-Empowerment
Which part of the PIRATE acronym is amplified most by technology in your classroom?
#learnLAP
A3 for me it’s been peer collaboration, but I can see most of these elements being enhanced if tech is used the right way. We have to be careful to make sure that we aren’t just having Ss watch videos and complete digital worksheets. Tech isn’t a sub for a pencil #LearnLAP
A3: Empowerment for students and teachers. Use of tech increases student voice, choice, collaboration, differentiation, engagement, 4Cs, etc. In the end it's all about empowering the learners. #LearnLAP
A3: Responsibility. I have learned that many students become more responsible for their behavior online as well as responsible for their own education. Allowing students guided freedom will help them grow with and express their responsibility! #learnLAP
Q3: In review of the PIRATE acronym:
-Peer Collaboration
-Improvement Focus
-Responsibility
-Active Learning
-Twenty First Century Skills
-Empowerment
Which part of the PIRATE acronym is amplified most by technology in your classroom?
#learnLAP
Q4:Sometimes, technology can be the wrong tool for the job. What applications of technology might hinder progress towards a student centered classroom? #LearnLAP
A3: All great options but for me it's peer collaboration. Instead of learning with a class of 30 or in a building of several hundred or thousands of people, there are no limits to the number of learners that can engage in the experience. #learnLAP
21st century skills. It is imperative for our Ss to use technology to increase productivity, find answers to what they want to learn about and be able to use tech to amplify their voice. #LearnLAP
Q3:
In my class Improvemt Focus is amplified most bc ss not only critique other’s work, they reflect on their own, hear my side coaching, see what their performances look like. Being able to easily video and playback would’ve been huge for me in my acting study. #learnlap
Q3: In review of the PIRATE acronym:
-Peer Collaboration
-Improvement Focus
-Responsibility
-Active Learning
-Twenty First Century Skills
-Empowerment
Which part of the PIRATE acronym is amplified most by technology in your classroom?
#learnLAP
A4: Using tech to dictate exactly what students should do step by step may add convenience and some pacing, but not increase student empowerment. An example of this would be taking a PDF worksheet and having students fill it in online.
#learnLAP
A4: When it is just being used as a typewriter. Tech can unlock many doors, don't put it into one box. Different students excel at different things. Find different ways to use Tech so you can empower instead of hinder! #LearnLAP@ERobbPrincipal@MrsAsztalos@_on11@misskoplin
A4: Selecting the tech tool before the learning goal. Student learning must always be at the forefront of planning. THEN, you can select the right tool for the job. #LearnLAP#BoldSchool@Wes_Kieschnick
Q4:Sometimes, technology can be the wrong tool for the job. What applications of technology might hinder progress towards a student centered classroom? #LearnLAP
A3 | EMPOWERMENT. Telling students that we can watch a video showing the changes a volcano goes through post-eruption, is so much better than taking notes on a power point. Tech empowers our students to ask WHY, and how to find the answers themselves. #learnLAP
A4. Webquests/tasks that do not allow the students to OWN their thinking. 120 copies of the same document answered exactly the same way = a worksheet.
ALSO- I’m a firm believer in hand written notes. #learnlap
Q4:Sometimes, technology can be the wrong tool for the job. What applications of technology might hinder progress towards a student centered classroom? #LearnLAP
A4: Right now, I'm teaching graphing. There is no replacement for students being able to plot the points, hold a ruler straight, and graph the line(s). Once they've mastered it we can do some great things with @Desmos, but you just can't replace the basics! #LearnLAP
Q4:Sometimes, technology can be the wrong tool for the job. What applications of technology might hinder progress towards a student centered classroom? #LearnLAP
A4 When technology is forced on a student as the only option, it will hinder progress. We need to honor voice & choice. I still love to read paper books, I love to write by hand. We need to give options to students and let them be leaders in their learning. Guide them. #LearnLAP
Q4:Sometimes, technology can be the wrong tool for the job. What applications of technology might hinder progress towards a student centered classroom? #LearnLAP
A4: Anything that simply shifts sage on the stage to sage on the screen with a recipe on the side. If classroom is student-centered, then learning should be student-driven. #LearnLAP
Q4:Sometimes, technology can be the wrong tool for the job. What applications of technology might hinder progress towards a student centered classroom? #LearnLAP
A digital worksheet is still a worksheet. Unless it is augmented to address a new form of creation, might was well not use a digital form. Putting too much tech for the sake of using it with no purpose diminishes its power. #LearnLAP
Q4:Sometimes, technology can be the wrong tool for the job. What applications of technology might hinder progress towards a student centered classroom? #LearnLAP
A4. Applications that might hinder student centered classroom, would be flipped classrooms. I went through that in high school and it did not work for any of us. There was no engagement at all when we met in class. #LearnLAP
A4 If the tech is not easy to use or has too many bells and whistles, Ss will spend their time on the wrong things. I like tools that are simple, streamline and easy for them to use. #LearnLAP
Great insight about why people use digital worksheets. I've also found that some get swayed with the "cute and pretty" instead of digging deeper into the "why and how". #LearnLAP
A4 - Any time that tech is used for tech's sake is problematic at best. Also if you are applying 20th century learning tools to tech (ie turning worksheets into Google Docs) and calling it innovation is worrisome as well. Tech should move forward, not back. #edtrex#learnlap
A4:It may not be an application of technology but if you don't invest in the professional development of your teachers, student progress with tech will be hindered. We must make an investment in our teachers as much as our students! #learnlap
A4 I think this questions boils down to a couple of things. What are your expectations and do kids know them, do you have a clear plan on how to use the devices and what are your objectives #Learnlap
Q2A2: COLLABORATION! Ss read primary source docs on Russian Revolution w partners and completed shared tasks. That evidence enabled them to interpret a political cartoon. "Group work" with relevance when Ss publish to an authentic audience of peers w @padlet. #LearnLAP#2ndaryELA
A4: When it's inserted for the sake of doing it - or as an add on project at the end of unit of instruction (one more thing). Or, when it's used for only students to consume - not to create. #LearnLAP
A4: I think tech used as just "fun" Many Ts have gone to tech because they think they are engaging students but really kids are not engaged by Powerpoint like we were as kids, if we don't evolve in our tech teaching it is no different than a chalkboard #LearnLAP
Q4:Sometimes, technology can be the wrong tool for the job. What applications of technology might hinder progress towards a student centered classroom? #LearnLAP
I remember when I did a webquest and I thought I was doing a great job teaching research skills. I now know there are WAAAAAY better ways that spark creativity, innovation, and excitement along the way! Right, @misskoplin? #learnlap
A4: It infuriates me when parents had a kid technology rather than interact with their child! An app. will never take the place of good parenting! #LearnLAP
A4. In a project where we want kids using their creativity in engineering and building. Tech isn't really needed in making things by your hands. It's using your imagination! #learnlap
A4 when it takes longer to use the tech and learning time is lost, or trying to use it just for the sake of using it, not enhancing or promoting more personalized exper #learnlap
A4: when I tried to MAKE the tech fit, it never worked. The tech must enhance the lesson, enhance the learning, and be for the Ss. Without processes in place, getting ready to use the tech takes away from all that. I always practice as a T and as a S before using it! #LearnLAP
A4: Tech cannot be a solve-all and doesn't replace the Ts to Ss and Ss to Ss relationship. Expecting Ss to just log on and complete something doesn't mean everyone is engaging the same way. #learnlap
Q4:Sometimes, technology can be the wrong tool for the job. What applications of technology might hinder progress towards a student centered classroom? #LearnLAP
A4: If students are given tech and being asked to use it like its 1999, we have a problem. We need to use tech in an innovative and collaborative way. #LearnLAP
A4: When assumptions about technology are made. One of the most harmful ones is "this generation is more comfortable learning by using technology." #learnLAP
Yes! So much truth in this! Students need to have options that fit best with their preferences. I prefer paper books to digital books, too! Something about holding a real book in your hands and turning the pages... #LearnLAP
A4. Using technology in place of worksheets is not student centered. Unfortunately some teachers think using digital makes their classrooms student centered. #LearnLAP
Perhaps the amazing thing we can do is make growth mandatory - for ourselves as educators as well as for our students. That is how we can truly serve our children. - @gcouros#LearnLAP
#learnlap A4: A student centered classroom is about what the STUDENTS are doing in the class....not what tech is doing. If the attention is on the tech.....that says it all. Replacing a lecturing T with tech is still be a T-centered classroom.
Q4:Sometimes, technology can be the wrong tool for the job. What applications of technology might hinder progress towards a student centered classroom? #LearnLAP
A4 It would hinder my students to assign use of a complex tool without any support like tutorials/training on how to use it. This takes the class from being student-centered to tech-centered. Instead, select an appropriate tool and provide support. #learnLAP
If you've read "Learn Like a PIRATE" and would like to connect with others at your grade level or in your position, please add your name to the #LearnLAP PLN here: https://t.co/X3YWd1dj0y
It's a GREAT community of educators working together!
Q4:
When a tool is chosen for its novelty vs student need. I get frustrated when my Ss use their technology instead of their paper scripts. It hinders physicality on the Stage. Forcing students to use technology for things like creative writing hinders some students. #LearnLAP
Q4:Sometimes, technology can be the wrong tool for the job. What applications of technology might hinder progress towards a student centered classroom? #LearnLAP
A4 One use of tech that I have seen that is dangerous is putting Ss in front of a computer all day with an English learning program because they don't know what to do with the Ss. #learnlap
Yeah, I scrapped the webquest and moved to a menu full of innovative activities. Students seemed to enjoy it once they got over the fact that a test was "easier." Ha! #learnlap
In reply to
@Mtiesworth, @Stella_Pollard, @misskoplin
A4: Technology should be used for remediation and enrichment. However, too often teachers are using technology for instruction. Tech is a powerful too but it shouldn’t or can’t replace a good teacher. #LearnLAP
A4 tech that is used as a substitute for low level tasks or worksheets. If we want to integrate tech it has to offer something that paper and pencil alone wouldn’t or make the learning activity more accessible to all learners #LearnLAP
A3: I think active learning because all the others could be a sub part of that. Active when using @PearDeck but also responsible and improved focus. Researching requires 21st Cent. Skills and empowerment To make decisions. And when using simulations, they are active #LearnLAP
Currently- earning some global collaboration street creds - while my class in Texas and my friend @rashkath in India use #flipgrid to have our kids teach each other about our respective cultures!! Lots of viewing of these tomorrow to see what we are learning!! #learnLAP
In reply to
@kylelaurie, @kerszi, @Flipgrid, @rashkath
A4 Don't use #edtech for the sake of using tech. Often, we are best at communicating directly, without tech. Don't discourage S interaction just because there is #edtech in play. Your classroom might be noisy... that's ok! Sounds like learning! #learnlap
A5: If classroom procedures are not well defined, technology can become a distraction for students. Researching without parameters can lead to students going off on tangents on Google.
#LearnLAP
It's a tough battle to fight, but so worth it in the end! When the students are provided an opportunity to really create and share (vs a digital worksheet) - WOW! The results are so empowering! #LearnLAP
A4: Although I love the peer collaboration, technology (internet use in this situation) can bring distractions when boundaries aren't set and met. #LearnLAP
I suspect sometimes the intimidation factor of technology can get in the way of learning. It certainly happens to adults. So purpose, and what they’re meant to be learning, matters here.
#LearnLAP
A4: The learning objectives must come first. Always. #Edtech tools may or may not support the objective. A skilled educator chooses tools that provide pathways to goals. #LearnLAP
A5: I think it comes down to determining what is best for your students. If you feel like students can design and make something incredible without the use of tech, then you can leave it as an option but it doesn't have to be the only way. #LearnLAP
A1: I do not think technology is necessary to create a successful student centered classroom. I think that it is a great tool to enhance learning by motivating students to learn. #learnLAP
A4. We need to have a balance and kids should have choice! Kids@have choice when writing weekend news using paper/pencil or app of choice- @googledocs@nightzookeeper@kidblog - also writing informational book on animal kids using paper/pencil and then digital form! #learnlap
Excellent point about the time tech can take compared to other tools. Sometimes we forget how much time tech can waste when we aren’t careful! #LearnLAP
A5: I always ask, “Will the learning be the same without the tech?” If the answer is yes, or even a hesitation, I try to use a different approach that will improve the learning. #LearnLAP
A5: I ask myself, “what are the benefits for the learner and the learning?” When I can’t come up with much, I realize the only benefit is to me. And that’s never a good enough reason! #LearnLAP
A5 - If it is a gimmick then I move away from it. If it does not add anything to my learning objective then I remove it. If it forces me to be 20th Century teacher in the 21st Century then I remove it. There are many signs on the teacher end, let alone the student end. #learnlap
A5: Kids are so smart they can have things going on in the background. Tech is great I think too much time or not enough actual know how makes it an easy playground for wasting time. FortNite or whatever it is on a separate screen when they should be doing research #LearnLAP
I agree! It can also have a negative impact on a teacher who thinks, "Oh, I could never do anything that pretty and creative, so I'll just keep teaching the way I've always done it." Pinterest can overwhelm some with the struggle of perfectionism and inadequacy. #LearnLAP
A5: Irresponsibility with the technology. My son lost his "driver's license for sharing his login and password in 5th grade (he's now an adult). He couldn't use the laptops and had to hand write a report on internet safety & share it with his class. #LearnLAP
A5. If students are really off task and find the activity too hard or easy. It is easy to get distracted on the internet, so it is important to make sure your students are doing what you need them to do. #LearnLAP
A4 Don't use #edtech for the sake of using tech. Often, we are best at communicating directly, without tech. Don't discourage S interaction just because there is #edtech in play. Your classroom might be noisy... that's ok! Sounds like learning! #learnlap
A5. In certain instances where Ss are collaborating in group projects. The technology needs to be the used towrds the end of the project in order to allow for Ss to communicate and work together and share ideas! #learnlap
A5 In face-to-face class meetings, the signs would be worried faces and no talking. This would tell me I need to provide more support. I love the hum of productivity in my classroom as students share ideas and work together. Too much quiet makes me suspicious. #learnLAP
A5 If the #edtech requires more work than without it and doesn't provide any additional benefit, don't use it. Formative assessments often fall in this trap- if it takes longer for Ss to log in to a platform than it takes to finish the assessment, you're doing it wrong. #learnlap
A4: relying on only quizziz. Quizlet, kaboot withoit giving time for ss to develop their own understanding of terms and concepts. Giving them a worksheet that is on a google doc just to use technology. #LearnLAP
A5 I look for signs of lack of progress; if I conference with students, I will know how they are doing with tech. Importance is to know students and follow their progress, monitor, communicate. Tech can be used anywhere but needs to support needs. Take time to be there. #LearnLAP
Q5: Sometimes I just see students looking down at their laps and laughing. Or trying to hide what they're looking at. Body language can tell a lot sometimes! #LearnLAP
A5:When students start to drive the learning and say "hey, can I build something" or "can I draw it instead." Let students determine the outcome. Isn't it their learning? When students determine how to get to the final learning goals it will determine what comes next. #learnlap
A5: When it is simply the same worksheet, just completed on a computer, or the same fill in the blank test, or cookie cutter follow the procedure activity. Doing technology the sake of including technology. #LearnLAP
1st - will all Ss have the ability to do the activity outside of my room. 2nd - is this really something they should have a hard copy of. 3rd - am I doing this because I think it’s cool or will it be beneficial? #LearnLAP
A5: Ease of use! If I am spending more time introducing the tech, teaching them how it works, and troubleshooting their issues than they are spending learning, it's not worth it. If the students are getting frustrated instead of engaged, there was probably a better way! #LearnLAP
A4: Technology should be used for remediation and enrichment. However, too often teachers are using technology for instruction. My platform, @Engagucate_Ed is meant for fun. That’s is what all #edteach should be meant for. Let me get off my soapbox. #LearnLAP
A5 It leads to Ss being unclear about the content, confused, or is not much different than having a worksheet for Ss to complete, yes it is faster to assess, but does not add much for Ss, #learnlap
A2: The biggest benefit of using technology in a student centered environment is engagement. Adding technology to the classroom engages students, and teachers can run a student paced class using online learning management systems like Schoology #learnlap
Just as citizenship is arguably of primary importance for education in general, so is digital citizenship when using tech for learning. #digcit#LearnLAP
A3: Yes to all!! Tech has the amazing ability to enhance a host of skills. But if I had to pick one, it would be developing my Ss to become productive, disciplined, all around awesome digital citizens. #LearnLAP
That is true, but if it is a gimmick for gimmick's sake then remove it. If we are looking for a gimmick there is so much use in just a single sheet of paper and a pen. #learnlap
I observed a class where the T had gone to great effort to package her lesson w tech. Ss had to solve puzzles to "unlock" questions--but a closer look revealed that all the ?'s were vocab/comprehension. Tech had replaced good pedagogy. #LearnLAP
A5: I heard a kid say, "UGH. I have to make another Google slides presentation?" Also, "Nearpod is just a like Slides if we don't get to talk." Kids can detect the BS and are used to technology for authentic collaboration, not just tech. #LearnLAP
A5 I also ask Ss about preferences, input is so important, after we do an activity, will get their feedback and see if it helped/hindered, or otherwise #learnlap
#LearnLAP No, but it helps. Technology gives us tools that process enourmous amounts of data that can be useful to see trends that aren't immediately obvious to the naked eye
A5:
Lower student engagement, off-task behaviors, same kind of complaints as traditional teaching, lower achievement are all signs that tell me the tech is not the best tool. The buzz of mutiny is much different than the buzz of learning. #learnlap
A5: When Ss give you that look like they are confused by the task because of the tech, it’s time to move away from it and regroup as a team to ensure understanding and learning is actually taking place. #learnlap
A5: If it's just "fun" without content, I'm not getting enough "bang for my buck" with the limited amount of time I have. Also I want to make sure my Kinders are getting enough "hands on" building and play time (not losing other kinds of creativity to screen time) #LearnLAP
A5 Frustration, Time off task, answers that are not what was intended. If every class has a problem with the task, its not them it's the task. #LearnLAP
a6 When I see a S is confused on my monitor, I send another S to the rescue & often email Ps about what great job their S is doing explaining & collaborating #LearnLAP
Q5: I observed a class where the T had gone to great effort to package her lesson w tech. Ss solves puzzles to "unlock" questions--but a closer look revealed that all the ?'s were vocab/comprehension. Tech had replaced good pedagogy. Tech shld elevate 4 C’s. #LearnLAP
A5 Like with anything else too much of a good thing is not a good thing. I try to balance the use of tech with other activities that engage the Ss. My Ss are pretty honest in telling me when things are working and when they have had enough. #learnlap
A6: I love collaboration whenever appropriate. As my Ss design products I encourage them to talk to others. One menu option for my class was to design a @GetKahoot and so they played them together. Another one was to design WW2 recruitment vid and Ss worked together #LearnLAP
A3: Active learning is amplified most in my classroom. When students use technology in the classroom they are engaged and more active in their learning. Using chromebooks and the internet in my classroom help my students to be active in the classroom and want to learn. #learnlap
A5: This is new for me, but trying a flipgrid (and then watching the videos as a class) gave some of my quietest kids a chance to speak without the pressure of "public speaking." #LearnLAP
A6: I like using @screencastify, @Flipgrid, or @Padlet to leave feedback. This makes my responses to students more personal. They can pick up on my time, emphasis, and facial expressions. This allows for feedback to be more personal, engaging, and meaningful. #LearnLAP
Q3: In review of the PIRATE acronym:
-Peer Collaboration
-Improvement Focus
-Responsibility
-Active Learning
-Twenty First Century Skills
-Empowerment
Which part of the PIRATE acronym is amplified most by technology in your classroom?
#learnLAP
A5. I look for signs that my Ss are not engaged or not getting work done. I try to offer choices so that Ss will find a way to learn that is bet for them but remind them that they need to be Goldilocks and find their own just right fit. #LearnLAP
A6: This is new for me, but trying a flipgrid (and then watching the videos as a class) gave some of my quietest kids a chance to speak without the pressure of "public speaking." #LearnLAP
A6 - I have not done it yet, but the international collaboration between classrooms through @Flipgrid and Mystery Skype is just amazing. In the middle of a unit right now, but I am adding these tools later in the year. So excited to build collaboration. #learnlap
A6. I’m a principal, but I love when kids share work with me using g-suite or through @seesaw. I’ll respond to them electronically and/or follow up in person to encourage their thinking. #LearnLAP
A6 I believe kids can be more connected and discussion boards and shared docs give them another opportunity to share in a different way as well as different times. Some kids need more time to think and having an open time to comment and collaborate #Learnlap
A6: Because my Ss are only PreKers, I don't really interact with them, as much as I do with their families. I use technology to share things we're doing in class, pictures of their kids, and classroom reminders. #LearnLAP
A6: Someone mentioned this but if students can access the tools they need and some can get started, it gives a chance to check in with those who need the extra time and attention! I also have at least 1 small group activity in my daily choices to remind them to interact #LearnLAP
A6 Technology helps create relationships and global collaborations. We need to find innovative ways to build those connections and make meaningful learning, together. I have connected with many classrooms and even visited in FL from Canada. Empowered learning. #LearnLAP
A6. First assignment of the year is a getting to know your class @Flipgrid. Who are you, year in school, how will this course help you, what goal do you have for this course, how can you get there, and what’s one interesting fact about you. #LearnLAP
A6: My friends @cjgosselin and @rlfreedm encouraged me to start a classroom instagram. Started 10 days ago and my Ss love it. If we want to connect we need to visit them in their world. #BeTheOne#kidsdeserveit#LearnLAP
Q2: What do you think are the biggest benefits of using technology in a student centered environment? -Differentiation, Engagement, Student Voice, Student Choice, Feedback? Do you have a recent example to share? #learnLAP
A6: I love using @padlet or @nearpod even just @googledocs for students to collaborate on their ideas. Validating each other’s work can go a long way in building community. It also gives every student an opportunity to share and have a voice without feeling silenced. #LearnLAP
A6: Using @SmorePages to give students a platform to share information in newsletters. Need to teach students to use @Office365 more effectively to collaborate. Students have been dabbling with @Flipgrid which gives an awesome opportunity to share info their way #LearnLAP
In reply to
@Mtiesworth, @SmorePages, @Office365, @Flipgrid
Q6:
Using @Flipgrid and @Seesaw for students to comment and reply to comments helps build relationships among students that may not interact much with one another. #LearnLAP
A6 This is my fav Q of the night. I have 2 things. 1, I have a class #Instagram where I post pics of the class & class reminders. 2, we have class Twitter chats based on edu topics. We have grown so much closer doing these 2 things! #ap3040#learnLAP
Communication is important with students. Edmodo and remind are great tools that I use. It might be impersonal but sometimes it's just tough to be face to face with all of of my students everyday. #learnLAP
A6 Our Ss communicate primarily through technology. As educators, we need to learn how that can be capitalized on in our classrooms. They're already doing it... maybe we just need to ask the Ss? #studentvoice#learnlap
A6. I have seen in my college experience, teachers are using google, so students and teacher can work together in real time. I have seen a text messaging app (not actual texting) that allows teachers to be able to text all parents at the same time for reminders, cool! #LearnLAP
A6. Making video projects to show their understanding of material together, using tech together collorborating on activity to make something function, research. #learnlap
A6: Technology provides us with access to many different voices. If well planned, this can inspire S's to consider different perspectives which will ultimately lead to collaboration and engagement if the learning activity is well designed. #LearnLAP
A6:I enjoy watching my teachers use @Flipgrid and @padlet to have conversations between classes. Google Hangouts allow for 8th graders to give feedback to 5th graders on essays, students are creating their own google classrooms to post makerspace projects. Empower!#learnlap
A6: Mystery Skypes, author video chats, and communication through @Flipgrid have helped developed my Ss social emotional skills. Tech helped push the needle. #LearnLAP
A6. I love that my Ss will email to check in or share what they are working on. It’s been a great way to connect one to one. I had one Ss email me everyday she was out sick seeing if I could send her work because she wanted to finish her project. #LearnLAP
That is so cool to see. I love when my admin comes by my room and participates with the students. My principal recently uploaded some poetry he wrote to our @flipgrid and the kids loved to see him perform it. That connection means a lot to teachers and students #learnlap
If all your students are on flipgrid at the same time do you find it hard to hear some of your students? We are going 1:1 next year and I am planning on using flipgrid as a staple in my classroom to develop speaking skills! #learnlap
A6) I have been using @Flipgrid for students to share their thoughts on books and teach each other how to solve problems. I have also used it to do student council announcements with the school #learnlap
Q5: I observed a class where the T had gone to great effort to package her lesson w tech. Ss solved puzzles to "unlock" questions--but a closer look revealed that all the ?'s were vocab/comprehension. Tech had replaced good pedagogy. Tech shld elevate 4 C’s. #LearnLAP
A6. This year we had every S select #oneword and post it in the main lobby. Next year, I may have them leave a @Flipgrid response to share with community. #LearnLAP
A4: An example would be that students have to complete the same type of assignment online, and not have any variation of using the technology. Such as using google docs for all of their assignments, when they can be using powerpoint, spreadsheet etc. #learnlap
He is amazing! Cannot say enough good things about him. I told him about the lesson and gave him the code and a half hour later, poof a poetry video. #learnlap

A5: if Ss are not making progress, begin to lose attention, or if I don't have a deliberate plan. It's easy to use tech as a plan b or a convenient option. Really trying to not use it as a time filler. I want my tech to serve a purpose. #LearnLAP
A2. Technology is the common language we'll ALL have to speak and be comfortable with in the future. Immersing sour students in it helps them wade successfully in those waters #LearnLAP
A6: it can be a motivating way for Ss to collaborate share and also can give Ss a voice. Some Ss can express more and feel free to take risks via tech than they can verbally, in writing, or other methods. #LearnLAP
A6: Video reflections, blogging, Mystery Skypes, our class website & Classroom makes learning accessible to Ss anytime, GAFE helps make feedback more timely #LearnLAP
A7 - I am all about making things easier for students so I have a few rhyme scheme helpers for Google Docs as well as a screenwriting add on that will help us film Romeo and Juliet later this month. I am all about finding a tool that matches the need in our classroom. #learnlap
Okay, I have heard of @socrative but am not too familiar with it. Mind sharing how it works? I was waiting for your answer for this question, you have the best goodies of tech info! #learnlap

#LearnLAP A7 Check our @TeachingLChttps://t.co/foRpOF2yWy. Go to Primary Source Analysis. They have created worksheets to assist teachers with different topics. Use the oral history worksheet with our speakers.
As transformative as technology is—it’s a tool—similar to a paint brush—depending on the skill set, you can create a masterpiece or a mess. Teachers must guide students to use technology effectively #learnlap
A7: I really do love IXL in a limited capacity, because it tailors questions to S's previous responses so they each getting the practice they need. I love EdPuzzle for those that need a second explanation, Desmos for hands on math, and Padlet for student interaction! #LearnLAP
A7 Some must use apps or websites for amplified learning are @Flipgrid@explainevrythng@edpuzzle@YouTube@canva And others that students want to explore or try. We need to allow students to lead, to try and to show. We don't need to be experts. #LearnLAP
@socrative doesn’t require the students to “log in”. You can do a quick question and get Ss responses. Then they can vote for their favorite. Also can be used for MC. Very easy to use #LearnLAP

A5: Students may use the internet to their advantage and not come up with their own ideas. Instead of researching and using the information as a guide, they can easily copy and paste information into their own work. This prevents them from writing their own words #learnlap
A6: Having students respond to each other's work and responding to them myself makes assignments more personal. Letting students see my sense of humor and allowing their personalities come through their responses helps us become a team. #LearnLAP
Student-led discussion groups epitomize student-centered, collaborative learning in all content areas, and when infused with technology, the learning experience is transformed!
