Karyn McAllister. You can make gamification as big or little as you want
-
Jamie from Medford, High School English. I enjoyed the very specific descriptions of badges etc in this chapter
-
LeVonda Vickery Tech teacher at MAC. I'm still recovering from Lasik and in info overload from the reading.

A1: Michelin star, The Golden Whisk...need some more ideas for this year's game! Didn't do much naming of badges last year.
-
A1 I've finally landed on my theme/story: Hunger Games. Badges/Items-Mockingjay Pin, District Victory, Bow and Arrows.
-
A1: Looking at tying my game into career exploration inspired by the game of LIFE, so money like badges
-
Just Knead It (Yeast breads), You Must Be Yolking (eggs)
-
Hello this is Melissa CJ from Katy TX, 7th science.
-
A1: I'm doing space so: Planets, Stars, Comets, Asteroids...hmmm...
-
A1: Restricted Access badge. I have a loft in my gym that kids beg to go up into.
-
A1-Theme is Castaway. Woodworking class. Levels Apprentice, Journeyman, Master Craftsman
-
Q2 is going to be coming soon!
-
-
Maybe Haley's Comet (sp?) or the Phoebos and Diemos could be some other items
-
-
A2: Making sure they understand the relevance of certain badges/items. I could easily name them things kids wouldn't understand
-
Aubrey Yeh, 5th-8th orchestra teacher in CO, jumping in late here!
-
Just joining the conversation! (Started book today.) I'm still searching for theme inspiration for a high school English classroom.
-
A2 this is still a challenge. I want to use some game mechanics from Settlers of Catan so that rdg/wtg/gmr become resources.
-
A2-emphasis on content mastery, employability skills, and attendance
-
A2: How do they relate to standards you are teaching and theme of your gamified class.
-
Just started reading today! Looking for a theme for my high school English classroom.
-
Welcome! For this chat use
-
A2: I've used coupons in the past, thinking about what's been popular and how to repurpose for the game
-
A2: Ss always say they wish they knew more about budgeting, so money and career exploration are relevant.
-
A2 (Just joining) Game should mirror the course content. In ELA can Ss exp similar themes & decision making w what they are reading
-
A2: I'm gamifying for the first time so I could get it completely wrong.
-
A2: All skills that relate to standards, developmental skills with hand tools, safety, and participation.
-
-
Don't worry Most of us here are brand new! https://t.co/AJGxR45BeQ

Hey back for another Thx for moderating on the topic of my summer 😎👍
-
Yes, you are in good company!
-
-
-
A3: Earned for bakery missions, challenges, Product Quality, Sanitation, Mise en Place, adv. quest
-
A3 Badges earned through skills like class discussions or writing/reading evidence. Unsure still...
-
Q3: Badges for diff playing challenges, demonstrating school PBIS characteristics, creating/exploring on own.
-
A3: Ss will decide to go to college or directly to work. They will earn pay and have to spend money for real life expenses.
-
-
A2b In upcoming game unit I want to put Ss in ethical dilemmas given that's 1 of the focal points they are reading for in the novel
-
A3-reward desirable behavior-sanitation, station clean and demonstrate content mastery
-
A3: Badges are displayed on inst cases, help for leveling up. Still working on what privileges that will bring!
-
A3: I'm really unsure. I'm not much of a gamer so I'm having to stretch my imagination.
-
-
A3: Mission Training, Apollo Missions, Flight Tests...project based, 7 Habits of Happy Kids, PDL
-
I am not a gamer either- just think about choice and what will motivate your students.
-
A3: Attendance and participation, advanced joinery skills, safety, cleanup, and still trying to come up with more ideas.
-
-
Q3 2 types of badges-1 for each side of ethical dilemma (game) decision. Certain game outcomes require X# of certain types of bdgs
-
These are very interesting ideas. I hope to incorporate them into my future classroom.
-
-
A4: Ss aren't just doing one behavior bcuz it has the most XP and not the others, Ability for T to easily change if needed
-
A4 These can relate more to roles/characters in story I think. Which district are Ss in? What resource will they control?
-
A4: I'm thinking of insurance...health, auto...could be a bonus for those who spend their "money" on items like that...
-
A4: Mystery always creates extra curiosity (and, hopefully, engagement).
-
A4: Prevents SS from calculating how much they need to achieve desired level. Keeps them on toes and adds layer of anticipation.
-
A4: with my spy theme information will be given on a need to know basis. 😎
-
Very important at my school, trying not to overwrite it with my game
-
-
-
A4: Secretive and suspenseful so they work hard for them. Could be used to earn use of power tools vs. hand tools....
-
-
A5: Item to add mix-in ingredient, choose their own recipe or vary recipe or give allow Ss to create their own bakery mission.
-
A5 Thought about this with team vs. individual items or points. Various challenges for now are what I'm thinking about.
-
A5-create their own quest to explore additional culinary content or to go deeper
-
A5: I wonder if Ss could work through the game of life to retirement? Certain badges could allow them to retire early...?
-
review chall like Kahoot work well for items/points. Ex. top 3 get 50 XP
-
A5: I love the idea of allowing Ss to create their own mission, maybe the power to choose from a menu or do an alternative, etc
-
A5: Allow Ss to create their own 3D printing or Vinyl Cutter project to give them more ownership.
-
A5 Does this extend beyond badges? Hoping to create multiple game outcomes (like pathways) to account for this; bdgs do play nto it
-
A5: We love so I might take your idea and call it "Mission Training" hmmm...love the ideas here!
-
A5: Sounds like choice is the key here
-
A5: Castaway theme on a deserted island. Ss can create additional personal wooden items to survive..paddle, cup, plate -all wooden
-
A5: allow students to create warmup activities
-
Oh dear....I've lost track of time! Q6 coming in just a sec!
-
-
A6: Group work, leadership, Purpose-Driven Learning, 7 Habits of Happy Kids, 3 R's, ...
-
A6 Winning class competitions. Successfully completing bakery mission. Best product quality in cooking labs.
-
A6: Graduating from college, getting a raise, buying a house, paying off a loan...helping a coworker...that's a big one
-
A6 My first idea currently is to use class discussions as "Hunger Games" and each district will send a tribute. Badge for victor!
-
A6-teamwork, active participation
-
A6: Learning to read music, completing playing challenges, theory/history/culture knowledge
-
A6: Also, learning scales, not because it's amazing, but because it is boring - attach extra value to it
-
A6: Safety, someone attempting an advanced skill, one Ss helping another work through a problem,...
-
No, not yet...but I will now!! https://t.co/6YPREv09dd
-
-
Have you played around with Quizizz? Similar gameplay but does have different features/characteristics from Kahoot. Check it out!
-
I hand out baseball card size lam. badges. Ss keep in baseball card sleeve & are responsible to keep track. https://t.co/KVZJ3DS7C5
-
-
Do you feel like its cumbersome to "judge" or keep track of Ss progress for these?
-
I just love all of the amazing ideas you are coming up with! So inspired!! Q7 coming in 2 minutes!
-
-
Thanks, Tisha! Inspired by the best here at
-
A7 Not sure yet - Possible connection to independent reading (AR) and connect to themes?
-
A7: Career research has structure, but Ss can vary how they approach it...more focus on the areas they are more interested in
-
A7: Love the chance for students to try side quests on things we don't get to go in depth on in class
-
did you get that from ? I tried doing it on my Pages app but didn't have the same functionality.
-
A7: Games can bring motivation for learners who may not be motivated in the regular classroom (competition)
-
-
A7: Motivate Ss to be proactive and take responsibility when they may not otherwise...unlocks powers and choice, very powerful!
-
A7: Basic materials are recycled in this woodworking class, so a new recyclable product made on a side quest - presented to class.
-
A7 Multiple qs is differentiation. S choice of qs & how to complete them is an opp for Opens door for S creativity
-
-
A7: Side quests for music include theory, composition, building instruments/physics of sound, researching music history, etc
-
-
A8: Displaying "belts" on inst. case. Diff. kinds of strings, ribbons, etc depending on type of achievement
-
A8 I think the final goal will be the Mockingjay. They will achieve this through essay type development. So skills lead to "winner"
-
Yes! Use Google Classroom daily to post daily agenda, docs, recipes, missions, etc Ss need access to. Love! https://t.co/0sDYJXrrP4
-
-
So how do you distribute these? I see Google Classroom. Is everything loaded on there?
-
A8: I think that if they can keep their budgets balanced and retire Ss will be happy and their research paper will be interesting
-
A7 Taking tests. Ss who achieve Masterchef status are exempt.
-
A8: I love the idea of Badges/items unlocking the ability to access other badges/items/parts of the game..
-
Q8 There are many ways of doing this but 1 of the best ways occurs when S collaborate to achieve. Collab should be a goal
-
Q8 There are many ways of doing this but 1 of the best ways occurs when S collaborate to achieve. Collab should be a goal
-
Sorry, just got in the door... A8 - as long as it has purpose to them structurally within the game or as a team builder.
-
Exempt from test or can team up for a test. They get their picture/item posted on my Hall of Fame board.
-
A7: Reading another short story or poem by the author we've been studying.
-

Hmmm...so maybe buying insurance could open going on a vacation...
-
A8 Have also used it to help pay for supplies for their quests and to build armies (Risk style game)
-
Me too! I love that 1 thing that someone else says can spark an idea and snowball! https://t.co/QFY69CRsh7
