A4: sometimes my students share more when it’s not in front of the whole class, but when they are given chances to write or draw to tell a story. It’s amazing to see, hear or feel what they’re really thinking! Empowerment is key 🔑 #BmoreEdchat #ED446
  • ms_ryan_ Feb 21 @ 9:37 PM EST
#bmoreedchat a4 The stories are being told by building relationships with my students!! I show them that I am interested in learning more about them and ask them about their lives outside of school.

A5: I'm constantly fighting societal misconceptions of what my kids are capable of. They like to tell *their* version of my story, even though they've never met my kids. That's why I got louder. #BmoreEdchat

A4. In my classroom we make sure to do a morning circle everyday. This gives the students an opportunity to voice their thoughts or concerns and feel like their opinions matter! #BmoreEdchat #ed446
  • MsWoodBmore Feb 21 @ 9:40 PM EST
A5: It can be tough when Ss find themselves on the outskirts of the story. That resistance can happen when different life aspects are out of control and it just makes it that much more important to CONNECT with every kid. Good relationships are the secret key. #Bmoreedchat
  • justincholbrook - Moderator Feb 21 @ 9:40 PM EST
A5: Complex Contradiction: The whole child matters (YES!). The arts matter (YES!). Our kids deserve to be heard in their communities (YES!). Yet, our schools face political debates over funding, safety, standardized testing, and equity to just name a few. #BmoreEdchat

A6: A big conflict we face is how we communicate with each other. Sometimes feelings get hurt because kids don't recognize or understand YET how all students communicate with different voice levels, word choice, and movements. #BmoreEdchat
  • Ms_Eig Feb 21 @ 9:44 PM EST
A5: The reality behind the classroom. People forget that kids are PEOPLE. They have emotions, experience, lives. You don’t know their story unless you chose to get to know it. And no one can tell you that story other than these kids who are in it with you. #BmoreEdchat
  • MsZenTech Feb 21 @ 9:45 PM EST

  • BaltoESOL Feb 21 @ 9:50 PM EST
A6 I feel like a lot is planned to be done “to” the students, like series of modules and assessments. I wish more time could be devoted to exploring concepts “with” the students and giving th time to add the new learning to their life-long learning stories. #BmoreEdchat
  • justincholbrook - Moderator Feb 21 @ 9:51 PM EST
A7: High expectations and honest conversations. Sometimes as educators we have to say we messed up and that is ok. If we are going to hold students accountable, we must be as well! #BmoreEdchat
  • DanKos3 Feb 21 @ 9:51 PM EST
A4. Some students share their learning story through a portfolio, highlighting key points along the way. Others prefer a more traditional means. I sometimes document their story through twitter. #BmoreEdchat
