Q1:How do u prepare content to write your lesson plans? Do u use district info, curriculum guide? Plz Share https://t.co/DlrHRiUwdL
A1: It's a combination of last year's planbook - and my notes there - common core standards & our grade-wide curriculum map.
Jumping in late today. I teach middle school in Olympia, WA.
That's very comprehensive. I like that you are pulling from several resources. https://t.co/EfHt1IpeJY
A1: It's a combination of last year's planbook - and my notes there - common core standards & our grade-wide curriculum map.
Because this is year 8 for me, though, sometimes I find that my old planbook is the most helpful resource! https://t.co/5UvpKJ5gRb

A1: Our Ts use district curr maps and plan collaboratively with team members.
I also found that was helpful for me. Looking back at yrs past and improving on content!
A1: I use a two week planner for math lessons but only the first week is fully flushed out, second week is skeleton plan.
A1: greetings!I utilize our district's priority standards, pacing guide as well as outside sources such as snapshot app.
That is so wonderful to hear that collaboration is going on! https://t.co/ldUu3m7LfP
A1: Our Ts use district curr maps and plan collaboratively with team members.
A1: I use from what I have seen teacher do, also from the activities from conferences
We’re doing an “audit” of how lessons went during this first year of our new ELA curr. Great reflection!
Ron, welcome! So good to have you drop by! https://t.co/sBCPoHoycx

I write in my old planbooks religiously, and go back to them the next year! HUGE for lesson revision https://t.co/c3xBftQKEY

Wow! Great how you mix it up and look for a variety of resources! https://t.co/D2eWduUGv5
A1: greetings!I utilize our district's priority standards, pacing guide as well as outside sources such as snapshot app.
I try mastering a new pedagogical strategy each unit
Docs great for media literacy, but also tough topics like race relations, global warming, immigration: https://t.co/a98kL3LWvc
Great idea! Take what you've learned and apply it to your pedagogy! https://t.co/yuA0XKYUd8
A1: I use from what I have seen teacher do, also from the activities from conferences
Question 2 will be up on deck in 30 secs
That's such a great way to reflect and grow!
. A1: I follow our curriculum guide to prepare almost all of my lesson plans
Sev of our teams have kept a Google Doc with lesson feedback thru out each unit so they can revise collab-ly for nxt yr
A2: We encourage all our Ts to plan together and most do. Get one hour each Wed PM. Not much, but better than nothing.
A2: (1/2) Lucky enough to have my mentee be my grade-level counterpart. We plan together & modify my lessons from last year.
A2 Collaborating is hard at first, but once you have faith in your team, it becomes so much easier to produce excellent lessons
A2: (2/2) I'm so fortunate to have 'fresh' eyes on lessons I've done lots; sometimes he sees beyond MY reflections with great ideas!
Lucky you! Love the energy and new ideas new Ts bring! https://t.co/pctqO2c0qC
A2: (1/2) Lucky enough to have my mentee be my grade-level counterpart. We plan together & modify my lessons from last year.
A2: Alone. Im the only teacher of my subject. But I ask other staff when I don't understand...
That’s a tough spot to be in. My son is in the same position.
I am the sole SS T at my school. Try reaching to district personnel. It's their jobs to help make these connections
It makes my heart happy to see that. At least an hour is something. https://t.co/dYD7PEGXF7

Hi to ! I'm a new-ish teacher in British Columbia Canada, & I run a start-up association for new teachers! https://t.co/2tIGSXN5jW
That is so awesome! Great work on your part. :) https://t.co/NKozIfzOfX

GoogleDocs are such an excellent resource.. that's a great way to use them!
Yes! Faith and trust take time, but we are better together. :) https://t.co/mnFrOGg5H2
A2 Collaborating is hard at first, but once you have faith in your team, it becomes so much easier to produce excellent lessons
Yes, where I live district have 'helping teachers' like subject-specific instructional coaches. Reach out!
. A2: Work with another three teachers in my team to brainstorm new ideas while preparing our lesson plans
Awe, man! It must be hard at times, but you have found a way to make it work? https://t.co/oOlE9o51AH
A2: Alone. Im the only teacher of my subject. But I ask other staff when I don't understand...
A1 curriculum guides and online resource banks like TES and Teachit for interpretations of curriculum guides.
A2: I work on my plans alone, but I look to the for inspiration & clarity/confirmation by reading blogs.
How cool! Welcome! I've held this chat for almost 6 years! May will be our 6 year celebration! https://t.co/TLChDz5yje
Hi to ! I'm a new-ish teacher in British Columbia Canada, & I run a start-up association for new teachers! https://t.co/2tIGSXN5jW
A2: I get SO much inspiration from coming together w/colleagues for comparison, sharing, co-planning, revising, trying new things
This is so good. I used to love to plan and build ideas with my team. https://t.co/CSux9b0Vq3
. A2: Work with another three teachers in my team to brainstorm new ideas while preparing our lesson plans
Subj-specific Twitter chats could be a great help to connect you with others who teach your content.
A2: Teachers can grow just like students! sometimes they try on their own first, then share in partners/groups, then revise & build
Question 3 will be up on deck in 30 secs!
It's so good to come out of our comfort zones, too, and seek peer ideas, too! https://t.co/9wAAqWuddL

Q3: Do you use a collaborative planning tool like Google docs or an app to plan lessons? Other tools? https://t.co/NAm3rVcqpD
A2: it's good to go beyond your own school, too - try collaborating @ the state/provincial level, national level, online, in person.
A3: (1/2) We collab. on anything that's already in G. Docs, but sometimes simple email is a great tool - Esp. Gmail, back and forth!
A3: We have a dist lesson plan format. Most teams have made it a Google Doc to aid collaboration. So helpful!
A3 We have looked at using Padlet to plan some things, but it didn't work out as well. I really want to try using google docs
A3: haven't lesson planned w/those tools, but largely b/c I'm a substitute teacher. However, I use them for planning my association
Great to hear that they adapted the model! https://t.co/NTKmnWSUgU

A3: (2/2) Admittedly, I am a die-hard paper planner - something motivates me about reading plans in my book and collab. from there!
I hear you...that was me too. Now if I was a New T I'd use Gdocs for sure. :) https://t.co/t6cusE32Or

Howard here. Private full inclusion K-8 campus serving Ss on spectrum. 15th yr of what will b my first & last teaching job.
Planning is great, but how do you save the details for next year? Journaling? Blogging? File cabinet?
I would be lost without Gmail & g docs Our association is a brand new baby but growing fast & emails R crucial.
I get high-quality Tch planners and keep them for a couple years! Use stickies to note certain things, etc. https://t.co/9cxz93iZCj

Sometimes, it's as simple as shooting off an email mid-lesson to let him know something isn't working! https://t.co/lXn3ioR0OA

Our Google Doc reflections have been helpful for this. 1st year using those, so we’ll see…
Welcome! We are almost done, but you can join in at any time. :) Happy to have you! https://t.co/NO3jVxlNLL
Hi Lisa, I'm a little late to the chat, but I've been enjoying reading the thread. New teacher in Hudsonville, MI! 2nd yr.
Really enjoyed and would love to stay, but it is almost bedtime!
Let's look at Q 4 real quick!
If you want to make an hour go by fast, join a Twitter chat! ;o)
. A3:We use custom planning app designed for our Apple products at school
A3: use Google doc. to deconstruct stands., we identify important vocab, EQ, lesson progress. & Dropbox to share resources & lessons
A4: We know our kids best; considering ed. plans, 'feel' of the class that day & co-teaching w/ sp. educator! Would be lost w/o her!
A4: As I work with my Pre-Serve T's they seem to find this aspect of planning to be most challenging. Yet its the most important!
A3: GDocs notes/assign. GClass 4 distrib. GSlides 4 lectures. 4 my texts. https://t.co/P5b87slEHD 4 evidence of planning.
A3: I recently asked a colleague to help me proofread a cover letter. sent him G-Doc link. His first time using it, was blown away!
A4: Great Q! We have dist objs, but Ts use their own judgment to differentiate. One of the hardest parts of the job!
I still struggle with it - especially as needs change year to year! https://t.co/QOkNqct8jj
A4: As I work with my Pre-Serve T's they seem to find this aspect of planning to be most challenging. Yet its the most important!
A4: What do we want Ss to know and be able to do after our lesson? This is the most important question.
A4: Ask your students! Have them reflect on their learning and ask for feedback on your teaching. Talk about what is ahead of them.
Even as a veteran T, this was/is difficult. Why collaboration is so important - we can learn from one another.
Also important to remember that "teachable moments" often arise... & sometimes the plan goes in another direction. :)
Students should be able to apply what they've learned. I'm not looking for rote memorization after a lesson.
U can go back & make up anything u didn't get 2! It's important 2 take advantage of those teachable moments. :)
Planned checks for understanding along the way are crucial, too.
Yes! We have "Dr. Thiv" moments in my room - play on Dr. Phil; some of the most imp lessons! https://t.co/KosbDP5eHM
Also important to remember that "teachable moments" often arise... & sometimes the plan goes in another direction. :)
Last one! Q5: At the end of your lesson...How do you assess and/or know that your students "got it?
A4; read all ISP b4 yr starts. Never sit behind a desk. Ideally I know because I watch them work. Adapt. Adapt.
Love it! yes, when students are super engaged! We need to go with the flow!
A5: I love to use the idea of quick little assessments. Stand at the door with a small white board and ask fun questions!
A5: "What stuck with you?" Questions that address understanding, or questions unanswered. Love this board! https://t.co/oGa7QZSzOp
A5: We use backwards design, so “evidence” is decided at the beginning of the process. Everyone knows the goal from the start.
Desks in elementary classrooms (in particular) are just places to store your stuff :)
A5: I used to have a little white board for every student. They loved to give me feed back using them. :)
. A4: Implementing regular scheduled assessments of students' needs
A5: I often use exit tickets or have them write on stickies with a hashtag for our twitter board by the door for quick assessments
Yes! Was about to mention this. Always a great idea to identify the goal first, and work backwards when planning
A5: projects. Private interviews. Quick GForms quiz (scored w/Flubaroo of course). Presentations. .
Agreed! So important. https://t.co/b9VOa1tUq4
Yes! Was about to mention this. Always a great idea to identify the goal first, and work backwards when planning
A5: Vary end of lesson checks - written, performance, discussion - depending on goal. Mix it up to keep it fresh.
twitter board? Do tell more :)
Uuuu... I like it! https://t.co/ffwhDB834t
