#PSCchat Archive
"The purpose of #PSCchat (Principal-School Counselor chat) is to focus on the Principal-School Counselor relationship and the importance that relationship has on meeting the needs of all students. There are so many ways that principals can effectively utilize school counselors in their buildings. #PSCchat gives us the opportunity to learn those ways through collaboration. #PSCchat is not limited to only principals and school counselors, we welcome the participation of all educators and value all insight. #PSCchat meets every 1st and 3rd Monday of the month at 8:30pm EST." --Nicole DiSilvestro (co-moderator)

Hi all. I'm Brittanie, a HS counselor from Indiana.
A1) Most of my professional learning comes from my PLN on Twitter and Facebook.
A1 - My go-tos are EdCamps and Twitter Chats!
A1-Would have to say most of my professional learning comes from these days.
. I agree, Brittanie. Twitter has been a game changer for me. Great connections.
A1) I also try to go to professional conferences as much as possible.
A1: Much of my prof learning comes from Twitter, PD sessions, other LA supervisors in my county
. thanks for joining tonight, Marc.
I am unable to see the questions
A1: Twitter Chats, SC conferences, district level PD, professional reading.
Mostly from Twitter and webinars. I found out about on twitter and it has become a daily tool in my classroom
A1: Twitter, colleagues, Edweb.
. any examples, Brittanie?
I Would LOVE to go to an Edcamp! Haven't had the opportunity yet.
Twitter and various blogs are my favorite forms of learning...I reach out to others to make the ideas actually happen
EdCamps are participant led PD sessions. Topics are decided by the participants at the beginning of the day
Totally agree. Twitter is my anytime, anywhere 24/7 PD! https://t.co/nZskG8lX1R
A1-Would have to say most of my professional learning comes from these days.
A1: gives me knowledge on specific subjects, good ideas for interventions for Ss and info about research based practices.
What do you like most about ?
Went to the IN Assoc. of College Admission Counseling annual conference last wk & suicide prevention earlier this yr
. I haven't done too much with , but I know others who love it.

. great to see you in tonight, Tara. Thank you for joining us.
I am hosting one at my school next month!
Have heard lots of positives about . I have an acct but haven't used it yet.
this is definitely an area of expansion that I would recommend moving forward
. Good luck with it, Marc.
. I've often thought this would be great to bring into our school, too.
. I toyed with it a bit, but never fully jumped in.
I'd love to be a part of that!
I have a willing principal and a strong support network!
Keeping a digital portfolio. S's can comment and share information. I can download resources easily
I am finding so many groups with leaders that continue to push me in my thinking and approach
. let's get it going. You & Sarahi can take the lead!
A2: I act as a participant as well. When others see I am invested too, I feel it makes difference
A2-This is a struggle for me but I keep talking to them and showing the impact that these can have upon their growth
. I could use a refresher, too.
A2: I try to show them how it will directly benefit their practice.
A2) I try to bring up PD opportunities @ dept. mtgs when I know of one. Other than that, I'm not so good at getting them involved
Good point. If it is relevant, they will seek buy-in
I love Twitter, I listen to Ted x Videos on my way to work, I subscribe to the Marshall memo
A2) Modeling is important. I've gotten so many colleagues on Twitter just by talking & referencing!
A2: I often find it difficult to get others to move beyond those required prof learning sessions. Intrinsically motivated a must.
That's how I got on board!
So do I. Having great leadership makes a difference and contributes to my professional development
. so, you do this with each specific prof learning opp?
I love the Marshall memo! I am finding blogs to be more practical for actual implementation
. you aren't alone, Brittanie. Why I think it's important for us to share ideas tonight.
Yep. I hear a lot of "we don't have time" or "we've done our due diligence." https://t.co/o4b5LSbqqU
A2: I often find it difficult to get others to move beyond those required prof learning sessions. Intrinsically motivated a must.

I love Twitter, I listen to Ted x Videos on my way to work, I subscribe to the Marshall memo
Too often it is the same people going above and beyond
A1: show my excitement for learning, explain how the learning will help our students or how we are lacking the knowledge as a dept.
. thanks for jumping in to tonight, Sabina.
What is the Marshall memo?
It's a great tool! We create videos, recordings, charts. You can come to my classroom anytime
With additional support, may attract one or two who may not have initially wanted to participate
Chat this afternoon about digital badges. May be a great way to motivate staff. I want them to see it as learning not work.
. we might need to have an "on location" from GA.
Agreed... has to be some intrinsic motivation and an openness to learn new ideas/strategies/etc.
Would LOVE that....really want to visit GA!! https://t.co/mGiyZHumj0
. we might need to have an "on location" from GA.
. thanks for sharing this idea, Kari.

. how many students in your HS, Desiree?
A3) Transgender PD & Mindfulness! My intern is researching Mindfulness & possibility giving some staff PD!
. interesting! Maybe you can share with the .
A3-I would love to have more time to read and plan, a group of critical friends for planning and a F2F Admin group for growth
Technology, technology, technology!
Yes! I think Communication is another biggie. Effective communication is something that never gets old. https://t.co/W2eqVjjh3T
Getting teachers to share, work together, be open. Such benefits for Ss, but Ts just don't seem to want to do it
A3) Poverty, technology, communication
. maybe we can get a virtual critical friends network going with G hangouts. Thoughts?
YES it does! Overwhelming some days.
A3: Next Steps in Guided Reading, Formative Assessment, and Differentiation. All revolve around teaching students based on need.
. specific needs, Marc. Hardware? Software? Apps? All of the above?

. professional learning with respect to poverty is critical, Brittanie. Agree with you on this point.
I think that is an awesome idea! It is definitely something I feel I need. A group to hold me accountable and focused
A3: PD Needs: Supporting LGBT students, supporting Ss who self-injure, & technology (hopefully getting some of this PD at )!
If people just gave it a shot they would realize how much it would benefit everyone.
