The #educoach hashtag is used by instructional coaches around the world. We chat each Wednesday at 8pm CST on Twitter and use the hashtag throughout the week to share resources, ask questions and collaborate with instructional coaches.
I'm Lauren, K-5 Instructional Coach, Indiana, and moderator for tonight's #educoach chat. My #eduwin is celebrating my colleagues who are utilizing video reflection with our @goswivl for the first time! Proud of them for taking new risks!
A1: Maintaining instructional focus. Honestly, though, my all time favorite month to be a teacher! I miss it tremendously now that I am out of the classroom #educoach
#educoach good morning from India everyone. My #eduwin was propoganda posters my grade 8 made while studying about revolution and Socities..some celebrated the Russian rev of 1917 and others questioned it's significance in current times.
A1: December can be stressful personally which can impact Ts. Keeping Ss focused the entire month can be difficult. Mid-year assessments that are on the horizon can be stressful. A huge positive is that we know our Ss better by this point in the year! #EduCoach
A1: Some T challenges in Dec - Continuing to teach with intensity even though Ts & Ss are looking forward to break, wrapping up units of instruction and assessments, teaching & showing appreciation of different holiday celebrations #educoach
A1 Helping teachers thrive is the goal at every stage in yr. Coaching helps clarify their thinking & keep things in perspective during peak periods. #educoach
A1: I might add emotional resiliency; many Ss are stressed when they have to leave school and this bares down heavy on Ts, even when they aren't aware #educoach
A2: A challenge for coaches in December is keeping our foot in the door when teachers are in survival mode. I want to help, but also want to stay out of the way. Finding ways to be supportive and helping things move in the right direction is important. #educoach
Good point! Planning some good #WeekendReads that will hopefully get us all thinking & planning over the break. Working to be better for our students. #educoach
A2: Coach challenges in Dec - supporting and cheering Ts on to teach w intensity despite the many interruptions, helping Ts and Ss complete projects in timely manner #educoach
#educoach A1.We are rushing against time...for our school Gr 10&12 has sem-end exams, rest of the school is at the semester end so summative assessments, term end reports, comments, completion of pending work and syllabus...too much to juggle and too many deadlines to meet.😅😅
A3:I think having purposeful, focused planning sessions has been helping. Holding Ts accountable in the most supportive ways. Asking: what's next? What will S be doing? How can I help? #educoach
A3: Time is of the essence so be clear on the goal and offer simple strategies for them to choose from. You can also plan for deeper implementation after the new year. #educoach
A3: Be resourceful and purposeful. Help them see the value of integration of standards and the benefits of team collaboration. We are better together! #educoach
A4: Peer feedback partner or a trickle charge partner that will watch for a few minutes or review something to help us maintain our focus as well #educoach
A3: Cs can stay focused on their cycles and engage in coaching conversations that continue to keep S learning and thinking at the forefront. Keeping a positive attitude and bringing a little Holiday joy to each T helps as well! #educoach
A4: Peer feedback partner or a trickle charge partner that will watch for a few minutes or review something to help us maintain our focus as well #educoach
A4: a good organization system, a varied toolbox, and reflection. Collaborating with other coached on #eduwins and ways to make bigger impacts in the new year #educoach
A4: Continuing a schedule that has S growth at the center of your work. It can be hard to stay focused with so many fun activities taking place in schools but not losing sight of the importance of coaching cycles that continue your deeper work #educoach
It's when you a floater to relieve Ts, Cs or Ls so that they can go observe or be involved elsewhere in the bldg. It's an impactful and cheap way to offer PD for Ts too that builds a sharing culture. #educoach
A5: I utilize some of the excitement of the time to focus on staff morale. I created a PLC group that is focused on this. I can't give details (followers from school) but it will be #santarific#educoach
A5: Making sure that you participate in classroom activities such as community circles, morning meetings, holiday parties and celebrations while also being in there for instruction. Making the effort to be a participant in all aspects of their classroom. #educoach
A6: Scheduled Walk and Talks or Stay and Strays where you are reflecting together using a protocol that doesn't take a lot of time but is a leverage action for growth. #educoach
A6: December is a great time to stop and reflect on all S growth so far & create a plan to begin January in a meaningful way that builds on where they are and where we want them to go! Be intentional in your discussions so conversations set us up for success in January #educoach

#educoach A5.keep bringing in the excitement..small talks around what everyone is planning..and keep reminding the people on the countdown...that's begun
A8: Having a vision of where we want our students to go the second half of the year as well making sure we have a firm grasp on where they are as learners. Also, stop and reflect on what practices are currently being successful and which ones we need to improve on #educoach
I'm still working at this, too. I'd like to be more focused in my reflecting. I'm reflective by nature but would like to really try to target/focus my reflecting. #educoach
A8: I think narrowing down to the one area for improvement we are noticing from our fall actions and goals that will propel progress on the goal-looking for one high leverage next step. #educoach
A8: Things are stressful right now. Continue to build relationships! They will help with buy-in when you jump back in when January rolls around. #educoach
A9: I'm working on an updated Morning routine that doesn't involve work or checking devices: Read Something. Listen to Something. Pay gratitude jar. Drink a glass of water. #educoach
A9: I'm focusing on clean eating, drinking plenty of water, and exercise. Plus mixing a little personal development with my professional development reading. #educoach
I agree @Mrsutterreads. Whoever the instructional leaders in your building(s) are, need to link arms, and be sure the ship is headed in the right direction while providing support for all those aboard! #educoach
Q10: I’ve tried to follow up with all Ts that have been in cycles with me to reinforce their victories and keep the mojo going. Ts need praise and validation, too, and it energizes me as well. #educoach
A11: Given all of the attention on reflection, I am going to analyze my reflection practices that I do, and those that I use w Cs/Ts. Check and adjust, etc. #educoach
