A1: Visuals that show strengths of teachers is a great place to start! “I am great at...” charts and #ObserveMe are ways to get the conversations started, and will encourage teachers to spend time in the classrooms of their colleagues. #EduGladiators
A1: Our district offers many PD sessions provided by staff. I am really enjoying the "tech" options right now. They piloted a GHO last year with @Jscoppa#edugladiators
A1) If you know the strengths of your ppl, you can use their gifts to grow the organization. Allow them to use their expertise to lead relevant learning experiences for colleagues. #edugladiators
A1: It’s important to recognize the strengths of teachers in your school. Then we must encourage them to share their knowledge...at a faculty meeting, conducting PD or training, or having visitations to classes so teachers can watch each other #edugladiators
A1: Use in-district Edcamps. Then teachers lead sessions that they're knowledgeable about. Also, encourage Ts to visit each other's rooms. Just yesterday a math T came to sub for me and is stealing what we did. #edugladiators
A1: For T PD find out needs, not just district mandates. Find strengths among other Ts and work to bring out their leadership by having them provide PD needed to others. #edugladiators
A1: School leadership can ask/survey teachers to find out what they are passionate about. One of my favorite questions to teachers: What's your favorite lesson & why? #EduGladiators
A1: Just as we allows Ss to take the lead in teaching their classmates at times, so must we allow Ts to have authentic platforms to share w/each other. Rethink faculty mtgs & PD days allowing Ts to share best practices in their areas of strength. #EduGladiators#JoyfulLeaders
A1: Visuals that show strengths of teachers is a great place to start! “I am great at...” charts and #ObserveMe are ways to get the conversations started, and will encourage teachers to spend time in the classrooms of their colleagues. #EduGladiators
Hello! popping in slightly late this a.m. I'm Tami. Originally from California, but have been teaching down in Mexico since 2009. Top of the morning to you all. #edugladiators
A1: See and value teachers for their strengths and then give them opportunity to share what they know. We learn the most from each other!! #EduGladiators
A1. Our teachers signed up under areas they feel strong in. This became our Guru Board where other teachers can go to seek out help from the experts in our building. #EduGladiators
This is a win win. The individuals grow in leadership and model leadership. Others learn and benefit from their knowledge and expertise. Develops a culture of learning and growth. #edugladiators
A1) If you know the strengths of your ppl, you can use their gifts to grow the organization. Allow them to use their expertise to lead relevant learning experiences for colleagues. #edugladiators
A1: More school leaders (read: principals) need to give teachers the opportunity to select and lead their own PD throughout the year.
I'm quite confident the best teachers in our buildings are our teachers, not us. So, we need to let them do their thing.
#edugladiators
A1 Create opportunities for Ts to share their experiences, provide PD during PD days or after school, offer time for colleagues to work and learn together #edugladiators
Good morning #EduGladiators. Stefanie from Illinois joining a little late. As an instructional coach, I don’t interact with Ss in the same way anymore, but I still greet, smile, get to know, and always acknowledge former Ss w excitement.
A1 Schools can develop programs of in-house PD, where teachers learn from one another in workshops, councils, toolbox shares, and bring-backs. Check out my article about these four approaches: https://t.co/khtQZ6Ya9X#EduGladiators
A1: One way would be to individualize PD and then ask teachers to share what they've learned in an ongoing manner to other teachers in the building, as well as virtual PLNs like this one! #edugladiators
A1: Visuals that show strengths of teachers is a great place to start! “I am great at...” charts and #ObserveMe are ways to get the conversations started, and will encourage teachers to spend time in the classrooms of their colleagues. #EduGladiators
A1: By encouraging everyone to be a star in their role. This looks different for everyone. Collaborate with teachers as they conduct an audit of their personal strengths and how they’ll use their purpose, mission and vision to guide their daily actions. #EduGladiators

A1: Use in-district Edcamps. Then teachers lead sessions that they're knowledgeable about. Also, encourage Ts to visit each other's rooms. Just yesterday a math T came to sub for me and is stealing what we did. #edugladiators
A1 Ts have the capability to distill broad, sweeping initatives and transform portions into realistic short-term goals. By harnessing (and learning) all of the unique skills of Ts, districts can boost the quality of adult PD. #edugladiators
A1 When we build a culture of learning and sharing, provide a platform and some time, teachers willingly share ideas and "borrow the brilliance" of their colleagues. It's win-win! #edugladiators
A1. Having teachers who are experts in various areas share through PD. Teachers love when their direct peers share as opposed to always admin, central office or outside PD.

So true. Great leaders see the individual strengths within their building and encourage people to operate within them often for the benefit of kids.
#edugladiators
A1: See and value teachers for their strengths and then give them opportunity to share what they know. We learn the most from each other!! #EduGladiators
A1. Teachers understand some of the challenges that are associated with adult learning. Whether it is being tired and dejected or utter frustration, educators know how to move it toward empowerment! #EduGladiators
A1 -schools can celebrate and grow successful educators with pineapple charts, collaboration opportunities, shared PD -like twitter- and by frequent visits and celebrating those success stories #EduGladiators
I am planning on going to one organized by @Katiemc827 . It was my first one ever to attend last year and fantastic! Love the entire concept! #edugladiators
A1: Use in-district Edcamps. Then teachers lead sessions that they're knowledgeable about. Also, encourage Ts to visit each other's rooms. Just yesterday a math T came to sub for me and is stealing what we did. #edugladiators
Yes! Looking at data from common formative assessments, seeing where kids are, and also where teachers are in their knowledge and ability. That is where support from colleagues can do amazing things to close gaps for kids. #EduGladiators
A1: Take a poll; Use the #edcamp model; allow informal peer observations; use walkthrough data to determine who can lead PD; use school improvement team to determine PD and allow staff who feel they can offer their expertise to facilitate PD #edugladiators
A1: allow Ts to teach other Ts based on their strengths. We were able to offer some of those opportunities in our district. It builds confidence and trust and shows that we really can all learn from each other. #EduGladiators
A1 As part of our Beginning Schl Retreat, Ts began sharing significant lrngs from the summer. Topics ranged from stain glass work & literacy with infants to politics & understanding Twitter/blogging. We've lrnd so much from each other & built a stronger community. #EduGladiators
A1)Allows Ts to run workshops on areas in which they r strong &/or knowledgeable. If Miss Kate is really good at keeping her mini lessons mini, then she might open her classroom for others to observe, or run a workshop, or speak about it. #edugladiators
A1) Faculty EdCamps or combining forces with other schools in the district or area are a powerful way to provide choice and set the table for folks to lead and share. #edugladiators
A1: Raise them up to lead out on things they are interested/passionate/strong in - it empowers/reinforces their learning as they lead others... and they’re uniquely able to communicate how the new concept works in your unique school/district/environment. #Edugladiators
A1) @waukeshaschools promotes our learning from each other for two great all district learning sessions. @waukeshaone has a variety of learning opportunities, online, blended and f2f. At #WhiteRockCampus we are encouraged to share #EduGladiators
A1: Visuals that show strengths of teachers is a great place to start! “I am great at...” charts and #ObserveMe are ways to get the conversations started, and will encourage teachers to spend time in the classrooms of their colleagues. #EduGladiators
A1: More school leaders (read: principals) need to give teachers the opportunity to select and lead their own PD throughout the year.

A1: A culture of learning for ALL is crucial! We must be transparent about our strengths and where we need to grow. This doesn't happen overnight, but through conversations that are open and trusting, focused on the OUR kids mentality. #EduGladiators
A1: Teachers are a schools most vital resource...there should never be a reason to hire outside consultants to do campus PD. Have teachers build on their strengths and become trainers of teachers throughout the entire school year! #EduGladiators
A1. Having teachers who are experts in various areas share through PD. Teachers love when their direct peers share as opposed to always admin, central office or outside PD. #EduGladiators
You should totally host one, there is minimal set up and you can utilize @EdcampUSA for resources, they help w/registration, provide swag. We hosted one for greater Houston area & it felt weird in terms of not doing much for set up, but great way to personalize Pd #edugladiators
Thank you! I believe it would be a fantastic conversation starter for small groups to discuss during a staff meeting, then sharing out their thoughts. Being proactive can, at times, move mountains. #EduGladiators
A1: Value and honor the expertise at your school. At PLCs and staff meetings, on PD days, etc.—are you giving your own teachers opportunities to lead? Leverage the awesomeness at your school and empower teachers to share with one another and grow together. #edugladiators
A2: This is something our school rocks at! We have an understanding that transparency is a must! WE ALL know we have strengths AND areas of struggle. Asking for help is a natural part of our growth! Judge free zone! #EduGladiators
A1 Teacher led break-out PD sessions and Teacher written school publications - articles by teachers for teachers compiled by admin. An AP asks for guest Teacher writers to school publications.. celebrating Learning! #EduGladiators
Agree with you here, Chris. Teacher led PD tends to be more realistic "in the trenches" style, and authentic vs. consultants who might know the theories better but not the culture or working conditions unique to your school. #EduGladiators#JoyfulLeaders
A2) Give teachers choice in their learning and how they want to show that. Don’t just make it something their checking off a list but something teachers do to be proactive and support student learning also #EduGladiators
A2: I've shared this before but it's worth revisiting! As a leader it’s important to remember it’s not about you. Empower your teachers to learn & grow by providing opportunities for them to take the lead, allow missteps provide guidance & repeat! #EduGladiators#JoyfulLeaders
A2: I try to walk the walk. I share my own learnings with staff. Share resources weekly...articles, graphics, links, tweets. Anything to encourage learning on a regular basis. If we don’t grow, shame on us #edugladiators
A2: By modeling the behaviors that we desire. I will be putting up posters of what I’m reading and questions that I’d like to reflect upon with others. #EduGladiators
A2 Modeling it for Ts, creating opportunities to learn something together, run a book study, support Ts who want to explore their own learning paths, #edugladiators
A2) Allow time4learning2happen, & allow opportunities4learning to happen. It should be built into the calendar. If schools don't make time for it, then it probably won't happen. Yes, there's a million things that need to happen, but adult learning NEEDS to happen. #edugladiators
A2. Being present and authentic. In the halls, classrooms and engaged always. This goes a long, long, way. Lead by example with sparking buy-in with significance of the work. #EduGladiators
A2) If we want a culture of learning for all, we must provide opportunities! Leaders could use survey data to identify the areas for growth and the experts to lead. #EduGladiators
Exactly! We say we are a learning community, but for me that implies we are all teaching and learning! (BTW, This is my last Anchorman GIF of the chat!) #edugladiators
A1. By first valuing teachers on campus by including them in PD planning. Also by knowing the knowledge resources you have in them. Some of the topics schools pay consultants for are right there on campus! (Teachers) #EduGladiators
A2: Leaders should model learning. Walk the talk. They also need to create intentional opportunities for learning to take place. They don’t have to be day-long PDs. #EduGladiators
A1: Teachers are a schools most vital resource...there should never be a reason to hire outside consultants to do campus PD. Have teachers build on their strengths and become trainers of teachers throughout the entire school year! #EduGladiators
A2: as in our classrooms we strive to meet all Ss where they are. We need to work to meet all Ts where they are working to give them the needed learning to make them better - differenciate for everyone. That will build a stronger culture. #EduGladiators
Admin can foster a learning community by celebrating Ts who are innovating, risking, and demonstrating growth. Consider in your school: who gets featured and praised?
What you permit, you promote. What you promote, you institutionalize.
#EduGladiators
A2: Modeling! If I want my Ss to read then I have to model my reading life. If admin wants staff to learn they have to model their learning too! #edugladiators
A1: For leaders, we need to remember that it is our responsibility to provide time and space for adult learning. Giving teachers the opportunity to visit classrooms is another simple strategy that is highly effective. #EduGladiators
Absolutely, our teachers loved when we did it for a staff meeting so this way they could have menu options to get what they wanted & everyone was a “participant” no experts 😀 we all have valuable insight #edugladiators
That's what I'd like to do...do a morning, just to start and show its effectiveness. I think I need to get more forward with admin, write up a proposal. #edugladiators

A1: Use in-district Edcamps. Then teachers lead sessions that they're knowledgeable about. Also, encourage Ts to visit each other's rooms. Just yesterday a math T came to sub for me and is stealing what we did. #edugladiators
A2 - First of all leaders must be learners themselves and talk about what they are learning. We must also be open to each teachers needs when there are learning opportunities for them. #edugladiators
A3: Encourage Ts to visit each other’s classrooms, recognize T strengths and suggest them as resources for others, hold T book studies and opportunities to share, host mini ed camps, allow more time for teacher talk in meetings. #EduGladiators
A2 There are many informal ways of learning! (lunch-n-learns, quotes in the bathrooms, decorations that inspire in the faculty room) Leaders can share and make learning for everyone visible! #edugladiators
A2) We are having blunt discussions & goal setting with all stakeholders. Ownership & high expectations for all builds a culture of learning for all. Ts & Ss as learners grow together. #EduGladiators
A2) All leaders are learners. You model learning by how you engage in productive conflict in the quest of innovation and continuous improvement. People will watch you to determine if the status quo is acceptable. #edugladiators
A1: (2) the high school in my district @DHS_Eagle started a PD program for their Ts called #DunlapU that allows Ts to use observations with other Ts and innovative lessons as part of their PD. Definitely encourages Ts to learn from each other. #EduGladiators
A2- Talk to your staff about what they are interested in. I like book studies but not everyone is interested in the same book or pd. Get the most out of it by asking what we want to learn about. #edugladiators
Also, have faculty-led PD sometimes so that those with skills and specialties can share their wealth of knowledge, instead of always having admin-led PDs! There's roughly 80+ other faculties I can learn from because I believe everyone has something to offer! #EduGladiators

A2. A culture that has a 'growth mindset' like the ideas shared in this graphic can move mountains. @ICTEvangelist created the graphic below. #EduGladiators
A2: Encourage Ts to visit each other’s classrooms, recognize T strengths and suggest them as resources for others, hold T book studies and opportunities to share, host mini ed camps, allow more time for teacher talk in meetings. #EduGladiators
YES!!! I adore Edcamps!! I always walk away having learned so much... and there's that excitement of watching the board fill up with topics!! #EduGladiators
A2: I mean this in the nicest way - but not jumping from new shiny edu fad to edu fad that lacks research but looks cool. Leaders must model and go first when it comes to learning. #edugladiators
A2: Lead by example! It's very important for school leaders to share with their staffs that they value learning by sharing their continued learning. #EduGladiators
A1) Identify individuals with strengths that are advantages to the school, grade level team, and/or departments, so that everyone knows their go-to people when topics and questions arise! #EduGladiators

A2 Leaders can create a culture of learning by going first. Learn from teachers. Learn from students. Learn from staff members, parents, and alumni. Share what you learned. Practice it. Admit to failures. Ask for help. #EduGladiators#JoyfulLeaders
A2) As a Leaders we do not know it all. Asking questions, looking for suggestions, and seeking to understand require transparency and vulnerability to learn from others. #edugladiators
Building the self efficacy of each individual contributes to the collective efficacy of the group. This empowers the organization to do amazing things. #EduGladiators
A2) If school leaders (again, read: principals) want teachers, students, and others to be learners, they have to be learners, too.
Also - and probably more importantly - if they want others to learn from them, they must be willing to learn from others.
#edugladiators
A2 Provide ways for teachers to feel empowered and give input and get their feedback. Always provide reflective practices to drive focus on “growth “. #edugladiators
If it is not on the calendar you leave getting it done to chance. If it matters, you won't just say it's important and the expect it will happen without putting it on the calendar. #edugladiators
A2) Allow time4learning2happen, & allow opportunities4learning to happen. It should be built into the calendar. If schools don't make time for it, then it probably won't happen. Yes, there's a million things that need to happen, but adult learning NEEDS to happen. #edugladiators
A2: Modeling! If I want my Ss to read then I have to model my reading life. If admin wants staff to learn they have to model their learning too! #edugladiators
A2 Respect & kindness, smiles in the hallway & collaborating on teaching. Sometimes it's these little things that mean the most - and will carry schools much further during harder times. #EduGladiators
A2 Leaders can create a culture of learning by going first. Learn from teachers. Learn from students. Learn from staff members, parents, and alumni. Share what you learned. Practice it. Admit to failures. Ask for help. #EduGladiators#JoyfulLeaders
A2. By seeking input from all teachers on staff. They must be included in the needs assessment phase of planning. Value their input by actually using their knowledgeable ideas. #EduGladiators
A1: It would be so cool to create a course catalog of different specialties our teachers have in a school and then create a plan of learning to take classes that are unique to where you are or your interests. #EduGladiators
A2: By including ALL in creating that culture together. What are our principles? What are our nonnegotiables? What are our hopes & dreams? What do we expect from ourselves & each other? You don’t mandate these things; you build them together. #edugladiators
A2 School leaders need to encourage and support a growth mindset in all learners. We can do this by modeling growth mindset and having teacher leaders do PD on growth mindset focusing upon non evaluative goals. #edugladiators
A2) School leaders can foster a culture of learning for all by showing that they are willing to learn from everyone too. And encouraging learning by facilitating the space and time for these peer-learning to occur. #EduGladiators
A3 Design their own PD, build their PLN and work with colleagues in the building to lead the way for change, also step up and start a conversation #edugladiators
A2: putting out a weekly one slide newsletter with a few tips seen from different classrooms across the district as well as teacher spotlights; Ts observing Ts; PD choices #EduGladiators
A2: By giving everyone the opportunity to shine with their strengths, by at the same time supporting those who are eager and ready to continue their learning. This year I found community sponsors to send 16 Ts to a tech conference. #EduGladiators
A2 Admins have to be willing to use their 5 senses in day to day activities to capture the breadth of PD opportunities and needs in their schools. Finding new PD leaders comes from a heart of positivity and push for culture change. #edugladiators
A2) If school leaders (again, read: principals) want teachers, students, and others to be learners, they have to be learners, too.
Also - and probably more importantly - if they want others to learn from them, they must be willing to learn from others.
#edugladiators
Supportive administration, some autonomy for staff to ty new ideas, a way for staff to observe other staff (like a pineapple chart). Could do book studies of important district goals. Sorry I’m late. When the little wants to play soccer all bets are off. #EduGladiators
A2 Jumping in and out but it’s important to model learning and talk about what you are currently learning. Make learning engaging and make sure you are giving Ts strategies they can utilize! #EduGladiators
Q3: Learning is available everywhere now. You no longer need the admin to set it up or pay for it. Pick an area you want to focus on and go for it! #EduGladiators
A2 Provide opportunities for your teachers to “glow”, we recently did some TTESS dimension walks & had our teachers during there conference period visit different classrooms, we then had two teachers present our on the dimension, we will be doing this all year #Edugladiators
A3 Just DO IT! Never wait around to be "professionally developed" Get connected to like-minded educators and read a book together, share ideas, find your TRIBE and keep learning! #edugladiators
A3: Start visiting each other’s classrooms. Initiate the #observeme or #pineapplechart movement. Share info about books you’re reading with others, tweet positive things happening in your classroom, start a book study together. #EduGladiators
A3: Not everyone serves in schools where their personal learning is valued. Social media provides a plethora of ways to learn and connect. Twitter, Voxer, Facebook Groups, LinkedIn, Webinars...learning 24/7. We must be in charge of our own learning, and pursue it! #EduGladiators
Welcome warriors!
#EduGladiators & #JoyfulLeaders team up this am focused on Personalized Learning for us! We are excited to have @bethhill2829 leading us in the arena!
Let's start with introductions...
Please share who you are & how you "gladiate" for students!
A3: Take the initiative to make it happen on your own, seek out like minded colleagues on your campus to collaborate with, join a strong community like #EduGladiators!
Harvest the leaders within your school to lead at-will PD sessions during funded lunches. This means someone needs to visit classrooms and find the leaders that are innovating and leading by example! You can do PD from the inside!! #edugladiators
A2: We have to model lead learner behavior as leaders. Share what we are reading and learning and encourage others to read and learn from others #EduGladiators
A3: Be self motivated and as reflective as possible. Find mentors and read every single word they write. Write. Try out their techniques and reflect on what works, what doesn't and why. Connect with fellow educators online and share your triumphs and growing pains! #edugladiators
A3 If you work in a school where your leader doesn’t support PD, be that leader. Share book’s and articles with your colleagues. Ask if you can visit their classrooms and invite them into yours. Present at conferences. Make conferences. Write. #EduGladiators
A3: Be the change. Don’t let poor leadership dictate your love of learning. And share your knowledge with other teachers. Stars shine brightest in the dark!! #EduGladiators
A3: Take Charge! Join Twitter chats, connect with others in your building who want to do an informal book study, and connect with other leaders. #EduGladiators
A3) Be a risk-taker and try to facilitate a learning opportunity yourself (ie, book club/academic article club with a few colleagues) AND seek peer-learning opportunities elsewhere... like the Twitter education community! #PLN365, #ELLchat, #EduGladiators are my go-tos!
Learning is contagious and when people in your building see the results, the growth in your students, they will want on board! Be contagious and redefine the learning around you! #REdefineED#EduGladiators
A2: Fostering a culture of learning for all requires developing a relationship with staff. Allowing voice, listening to their voice, supporting needs assessed via—Professional Learning Teams, observations, surveys. #EduGladiators
A3) This is very unfortunate, however, Nobody is responsible for your learning but YOU!!!
We need everyone to learn to ensure the success of our students. #edugladiators
A3) Build your PLN through Twitter. Find chats, individuals and topics to follow, then touch base with them often. Find that putting that time on my calendar reinforces the importance. #EduGladiators
A3: create their own opportunities. Find like-minded Ts who will help build those and encourage other Ts to help. Create a district or school twitter chat. Build a PLN together by sharing recommendations. Search out edcamps. Build PD bingo cards. #EduGladiators
A3: Take charge of your own learning. Become active in Twitter and other social media with Ts. Talk about your learning with your peers to get others involved & learning. Work to change the culture so you are getting what yoiu need. #edugladiators
A3 Be the lead learner for others, utilize SM, find local Ed camps, and then find a new leader to work with. It’s important to work for someone who supports continued growth and supports your efforts. #EduGladiators
Learning is contagious and when people in your building see the results, the growth in your students, they will want on board! Be contagious and redefine the learning around you! #REdefineED#EduGladiators
A3. Don't you just love this quote?
"The art of leadership happens outside the lines."
Have a lack of leadership? Step it up and move mountains!
#EduGladiators
A3: Every person is a leader in the building. Keep carrying the banner for your students and school. Surround yourself with people that stretch your thinking and practice #EduGladiators
A3: All educators should be considered leaders. Nothing less. Use your skills and strategies to effect change around you daily. Leaders lead. Don’t wait to follow! #edugladiators
A3. Be a risk-taker and attempt to facilitate learning opportunities yourself utilizing the power of school and district peers as well as your PLN. Take control of your own learning!! :) #EduGladiators
A1: Our school’s leadership Team is free for any T to join. We collaborate with a blend of admin and teachers from K-8. A wide scope makes us a strong and diverse team. #edugladiators
A2 (b) - I feel that It is also quite powerful when leaders learn from their teachers. We have so much to learn from each other as educators #edugladiators
A3) Be an agent of change. Get other Ts involved and see what magic can be made. After-school PD? Saturday coffee and edu chat? Just because it doesn't exist doesn't mean it can't be started. #edugladiators
A2: Helping teachers create a brand and highlight the their acumen in a particular area. Facilitating an experience like an Edcamp would be lovely. #EduGladiators
A3: Yeah. Been there. Twitter made a world of difference for me. Being able to connect to other inspiring teachers outside my school elevated me at a time when our leadership was wanting to maintain the status quo #edugladiators
My last school actually did that and also created a teacher created library of PowerPoint resources. It worked well but new/varied materials must be constantly added to keep up with relevance to campus concerns. #edugladiators
A3) Ts can hop in twitter chats, attend edcamps and start their own mini PD sessions. Passionate Ts always find ways to grow despite limitations in their schools/districts. #EduGladiators
A3. I think this is a misnomer. There are leaders, obviously in great books, on Twitter, and within buildings among colleagues, even students. One must look and not give up hope and maybe become that leader the building is lacking.
#EduGladiators
A3: Stay positive and keep working toward creating the culture you desire. Focus on what you CAN control or change. Stay positive and persistent. It’s worth every minute of your effort. #EduGladiators
A3 Continue moving the needle, #EveryChild needs us to be a champ. Find colleagues on campus to join forces, & continue to invite leadership to the table to see the results of what you are doing, sometimes it takes others longer to see the big picture #Edugladiators
A3: Connect with those that inspire you and build a like-minded learning ally group. Connect at conferences, connect on social media and develop your own “one thing” you are an expert at! #edugladiators
A4: Instructional coaches in a specific position MUST be empowered to lead and facilitate open conversations about teaching and learning. This mindset will spread to teachers and build capacity within an organization. The principal is a support role in the process. #EduGladiators
Schools that do not support T learning CANNOT support S learning. It doesn't work that way. Change it if you can....or get out. And don't send your children there unless they are already perfect masters who don't need to grow and learn. #hardtruth#edugladiators
A3 - if you lack learning opportunities that meet your needs- go find your own!! Invest in you. Make your own vision a reality. Be active on twitter to find like-minded peeps who share similar interests - grow & learn with them. And never give up. Ever. #EduGladiators
A3: This might be tough, but this could also be a sign that you are in a place that has an unhealthy environment if something as simple as adult learning is not honored. #EduGladiators
A2:
1. Back off on all the data data data solely focused on the state test, STAAR.
2. Share what they are reading.
3. Join these Twitter chats.
4. Observe our classes and give feedback.
5. Share the experiences they had in 1 class with the rest of the faculty. #EduGladiators
A3: Embrace the wonderful (and often free!) opportunities around you. Twitter chats, blogs, podcasts, book clubs, etc. Connect with other teachers at your school and edify each other. #edugladiators
A3 If we can come from the mindset that admins need teacher buy-in anyway, we can can just reverse the leadership flow to change the mind of our administrators. Be the change and spark. No one will ever shut down group initiatives that work. #edugladiators
A4: Instructional coaches in a specific position MUST be empowered to lead and facilitate open conversations about teaching and learning. This mindset will spread to teachers and build capacity within an organization. The principal is a support role in the process. #EduGladiators
A3: Twitter saved my life. I
felt like I was on an island with very poor leadership. I surrounded myself with the risk-takers & #EduGladiators that created a ruckus! It was a game changer & saved my passion and career #EduGladiators
Yes! And ALL TEACHERS must realize they are a brand! They can decide what to do with it or not but the impression they leave speaks to their brand. #EduGladiators
This is huge. We will find times when we are the “lone nut” dancing on the hill. We have to seek out others to join us, and refrain from sitting down with the crowd. #EduGladiators
A3: Connect with those that inspire you and build a like-minded learning ally group. Connect at conferences, connect on social media and develop your own “one thing” you are an expert at! #edugladiators
A4 Cosching allows for guidance as the teacher puts new strategies into place and then feedback with reflection-all in supportive environment focused on what’s best for kids. #edugladiators
Agree with this Colin. I love having a bookshelf full of great authors like @Doug_Lemov@KellyGToGo@englishcomp@davestuartjr and Mike Schmoker. By reading them each week I get to have conversations with them and get to learn from their leadership. #edugladiators

A3. What concerns me is that ed schools are slow on developing curriculum to activate leadership within teacher training programs. I am willing to help new teachers get there but this how we will transform education. Helping foks discover that they are leaders #EduGladiators
A5: There isn’t a “one size fits all” when it comes to PD. Just like all of our students have different needs, so do we. My own needs change throughout each year depending on the time of year, the needs of my Ss, and what I have going on personally. #EduGladiators
A4: Coaching helps us see the things we can't see ourselves. Coaching brings us encouragement when we are down on ourselves, and critique when we don't think we can get better.
#edugladiators
A4. No experience with official coaches. I imagine they would have to learn the new ideas/techniques and teach the staff, scaffolding based on need and readiness. #edugladiators
A3 - Build a PLN in order to reach out and connect with other forward thinking educators and continue to model great practice within your environment. #edugladiators
A4: Instructional coaches can help create tailor-made lessons for your class. They can also help you with a particular subject you are not confident with. And they spark some great ideas for future lessons. #EduGladiators
Who's fired up to continue to personalize YOUR learning?! Thank you @bethhill2829 for pushing our thinking & inspiring us to take ownership of our learning & continue to build our capacity as #EduGladiators#JoyfulLeaders
Schools that do not support T learning CANNOT support S learning. It doesn't work that way. Change it if you can....or get out. And don't send your children there unless they are already perfect masters who don't need to grow and learn. #hardtruth#edugladiators
A4: It opens doors for teachers to grow in specific areas they or their students need. It can be skill based learning or coaching on how to organize information, materials, create spreadsheets to track student learning. The possibilities are endless! #EduGladiators
Everyone is a leader and every leader deserves to have a coach that will push them to better than they thought they could be. Coaches see "what could be" and gets the coachee there. #edugladiators
A4) Coaches r often in classrooms more than other adults. They KNOW who rocks at what. They can help refer Ts to other Ts who r rocking something. They can see where there r needs & provide workshops that speak to those needs. #edugladiators
A4: Instructional coaching is essential. I love having an instructional coach in my building but we must all engage in coaching in order to build a culture where growth and not perfection is the aim #edugladiators
A3. They must link teacher Learning with student success. They must talk in those terms. No school leader can refuse to address ways of increasing Ss success. It goes hand in hand . Teacher learning & Ss success. #EduGladiators
A4: If it's the right fit........ I love it! I sometimes learn more from my colleagues than professional presenters to be honest. @Jscoppa and @PMMSLibrary are amazing! They are patient with me and I learn so much! #edugladiators
Who's fired up to continue to personalize YOUR learning?! Thank you @bethhill2829 for pushing our thinking & inspiring us to take ownership of our learning & continue to build our capacity as #EduGladiators#JoyfulLeaders
I agree. Unfortunately that is not always the case. As professionals, it is our responsibility and obligation to ourselves and students to continue to grow. #edugladiators

A4: this year I switched into the coach role from the T role. I’m able to offer support through research, brainstorming, another set of hands when trying something new, and based on interests and goals, I can find other resources to share. Listen. Encourage. Model #EduGladiators
A4 I think Instructional Coaches that are still active in the class bring ideas, techniques and support to teachers that is achievable. They are also available to help you with the rough patches if needed #edugladiators
A4 Teacher coaching is a great way to grow toward our values as educators. If we can’t find coaches, we can look for colleagues who support, push, and inspire us. #EduGladiators
A2: School culture is so important! Ts need a growth mindset as much as Ss. When Ts are willing to learn and try new things, they become leaders too. Also, I think we need to remember that mistakes are proof that you are learning, not failing. #edugladiators
A3: Edcamps!!! Bring back highlights and samples of their learning from a recent Edcamp. Excitement has a funny way of making people take notice of things that are unique. #EduGladiators
A1: build collective efficacy by identifying who rocks what & have them show others how the work can manifest in classes; eliminate the learned helplessness by sharing the successes every chance we get; empower those doing it #edugladiators
A4: We must all be coaches, especially when we are doing amazing things. SHARE all of the time. Create a culture of learning and sharing. Pineapple charts are a great start! #EduGladiators
A4 Instructional coaching IS they key to systemic quality teaching. A group in my department even leads an initiative to build instructional coaches across the state because we feel so strongly about it. https://t.co/Ppo3iJTQr8#edugladiators
Q4. This is the tough one because instructional coaching needs to be done right. A foundation of trust needs to be established and we need to focus on just one or two things at at time. #edugladiators
A4: Instructional coaching helps others work toward their unique visions. It’s not about judging—or even leading. It’s about empowering. We coach others to reflect & question in order to find the answers that are already waiting inside. #edugladiators
A3 - Build a PLN in order to reach out and connect with other forward thinking educators and continue to model great practice within your environment. #edugladiators
A4 coaching allows for an extra set of eyes and helps us see things we possibly couldn’t while teaching 25 Ss. It’s a great way to have someone come in and help, all about growth mindset! #EduGladiators
A4: If done with consistent reflection, application and revisitation the potential for growth is massive. Growth opportunities for both the teacher and coach will be massive. #EduGladiators

A4: Important that we don’t adopt a fixed mindset about our own growth. Always room to sharpen our instructional and leadership skills! #EduGladiators#JoyfulLeaders
A4 When someone comes into my clsrm to coach, we confer, lrn insights & share possibilities. My Ss will, of course, benefit from such continual thinking. Plus, if I have informed coaches of particular interests or ?s, our convo can reflect the things I most need. #EduGladiators
Just as we differentiate for our students, coaches do the same for teachers. Everyone learns, grows, teaches, and retains knowledge differently. #edugladiators
A1 Relentlessly tune into the gifts of others in alignment with the living and breathing collective vision of the Schoolhouse. Sean here from NC making a stop by for my inspiring friend @bethhill2829. #EduGladiators
A4) If your complaining about not having enough opportunities to learn, your wasting precious energy that could be used to find the learning opportunities on your own. See a problem...find a solution! #edugladiators
TY @bethhill2829 & @EduGladiators for such a powerful #EduGladiators chat this morning! So much to read and reflect upon this morning. Off to finish the Qs then finish reading!
A4. It is one of the best models of teaching & learning because it is not confrontational & it is not a top down model. Coaches mean well & teachers know this. That’s why it is so effective @ all levels of sports. #EduGladiators
Yes!!!! So many of our colleagues could be struggling with something that you’ve already figured out! Have to intentionally not become silos of best practice but share with others! #EduGladiators
A2: 1st-lead by example; stay present in the focus of work; side-by-side model #visiblelearning & focus on #growthmindset for adults; practice inquiry by exploring the whys & hows #edugladiators
A4) the most effective coaches know their ppl, know their strengths & areas in need. They also take the time to build trusting relationships. Staff need to want your help before you can give it. #edugladiators
A3: This topic reminded me of the power of great books on teaching. Spend enough time deeply reading and you can come away with tons of insight into how authors think. #edugladiators
A3: For example: I've read every single word Mike Schmoker has ever published. I ask questions to him and he answers now. I am reminded of a quote by Machiavelli, from 'The Prince' #edugladiators
A3: if there is no leadership - MAKE SOME! Our district didn’t have any summer learning that fit for art teachers, so I made a day just for us. We gained so much. It’s not hard to do, you just have to be brave and step up. I’m glad I did. #edugladiators
A4: Instructional coaching is useful when the right questions are asked; and the person being coached sees a need for the coaching. The need has to be diagnosed, change made apparent and desires. #EduGladiators
A4: My “pusher” inspires, leads, challenges, confronts me with Truth, encourages, believes in me so much she makes me believe in myself a little, and supports me at each step. Having a pusher climbing alongside me makes me BETTER on each step of my journey! #EduGladiators
A4) If you're complaining about not having enough opportunities to learn, you're wasting precious energy that could be used to find the learning opportunities on your own. See a problem...find a solution! #edugladiators
#EduGladiators I have found The Art of Coaching by Elena Aguilar to be beneficial to my practice, especially in tailoring my conversations to meet the needs of individual Ts and providing authentic, useful feedback.

A4: Interventions and accommodations aren’t just for students, they are for learners. Instructional coaching is an intervention that is facilitated to allow teachers/coaches to grow. #EduGladiators
Just finished moderating #EduGladiators on personalized learning, and now ready for some more learning with a LIMITLESS convo lead by the amazing @drneilgupta!
A3: keep going; create your own opportunities; share, share, share! Find ways to have a voice - leadership team, district committees, plcs. Demo the power professional learning can have on your own practice. Seek feedback. #edugladiators
A4) Instructional coaching is an intervention set in place for teachers, just like how we have interventions for students. With differentiation tailored to each teacher, they can grow too. #EduGladiators
A4) I have two I try to join weekly, #EduGladiators and #PLN365. the other community, #ELLchat is an on-going resource I go to when I need advice! Otherwise, I'll see what other chats are happening when I have some time to get on Twitter. #NT2T
You can learn so much from visiting each other's rooms. I co-teach with 3 teachers, but I also visit the other 2 teachers' rooms I don't co-teach in, because I know there is good teaching happening there. #EduGladiators
A1: Use in-district Edcamps. Then teachers lead sessions that they're knowledgeable about. Also, encourage Ts to visit each other's rooms. Just yesterday a math T came to sub for me and is stealing what we did. #edugladiators
A4: A good instructional coach will use an andragogy approach, which is best suited for adult learning. Provide feedback, ask the right questions - be the guide! #edugladiators
