Hello. Dan joining in from Wisconsin. My favorite tech device is my iPad and classroom AppleTV . I do all kinds of classroom stuff with it. #BmoreEdchat
Let's get it started! Thanks for inviting me tonight, #BMoreEdChat. I am so excited that @justincholbrook and I are trading chats for a special 2 day #bmoreedchat#masterychat superchat!
Tell us who you are, where you are from, and what your favorite tech device is!
Phil from Northern VA signing in. I teach 7th grade US History II and host #waledchat on Thursdays at 9pm ET. When it comes to work, I sure do love my chromebook! #bmoreedchat
#BMoreEdChat Hey everyone! I'm Eleanore and I am a senior at Loyola. I am currently interning in a 2nd grade classroom in Baltimore County. My favorite tech device has to be a smart board!
Hey everyone! Jeff from@Ohio. I work with teachers and schools around the country, sharing @thegridmethod - excited to learn with all of you! #BmoreEdchat
I forgot to share, my favorite tech tool, not to sound cliche, but it’s the Google suite. We run everything on it. Love always being able to have access to anything we need. #BmoreEdchat
Hi my name’s Laurel and I am a senior at Loyola. I am an intern in a 5th grade classroom in Baltimore County. My favorite device is a smart board! #BmoreEdchat
Welcome! Gotta love smartboards (even when they are glitchy and my students call them "dumb-boards") Most of the time they are an awesome classroom tech tool! #BMoreEdChat
Hi I'm Sam, and I'm a 1st grade intern in Baltimore County. My favorite tech tool are the devices the students and my self are able to use as well as the smart board! #bmoreedchat
Q1 The world has certainly seen some changes in the last 5-10 years! How has your life (outside of the classroom) been affected by the digital revolution? What is the BIGGEST change you had to adjust to? #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
A1 The ability of my students to do true inquiry has opened up doors I never thought possible. 1:1 devices allow for growth in information. #BMoreEdChat
A1: I have seen my students been able to use technology in transformative ways far more than when I was in school and just had to make "5 slide power point" with no real-world application. #bmoreedchat
Hi! My name is Emma and I am a senior at Loyola and student intern in Baltimore County. My favorite tech device is the school laptops! #ED446#BMoreEdChat
A1 Biggest change for me personally has been in communication. My parents are out traveling the country in an R.V. and I still get to see them, talk to them, and, most importantly, my kids get to be closely connected to grandparents across the country! #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
Q1 The world has certainly seen some changes in the last 5-10 years! How has your life (outside of the classroom) been affected by the digital revolution? What is the BIGGEST change you had to adjust to? #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
A1: There are so many changes in the classroom in regards to technology since I was in elementary school! The students at my school are all given a device to use for school work. #BmoreEdchat
A1. The connectedness hand held devices bring. Being able reach out to others, find information anywhere, or even entertain oneself has been the biggest change. Provides unique opportunities for/with Ss. #BmoreEdchat#edtech#masterychat
A1 Found the past decade of ed. Tech confusing, made easy things difficult, trouble understanding the point of it all, with each new device teaching got less fun for me; but I’ve started to reframe that thinking the past 6 months #BMoreEdChat
Definitely the fact that I am never “off.” My technical work day might wrap up, but I have to work very hard to disconnect and not get pulled back in. #BmoreEdchat
Things have become instantaneous (for better and worse) I have everything I need at my fingertips, but it makes it very hard to disconnect from time to time #BmoreEdchat
A1. I definitely have felt the digital revolution. From being the student to becoming the teacher I can noticeably the use of technology in the classroom. Students have way more opportunity now to work digitally than I personally every have! #bmoreedchat
So much of the work I do is digital- I agree that we need to find that purposeful downtime. It is tricky, though, when nearly all the work we do is electronic! #BMoreEdChat
A1: The amount of typing since @TechieTeachOtt is going to trend #BmoreEdchat on Twitter this evening! I haven't finished welcoming everybody YET! Welcome!
Q2 Change doesn't always happen the way we expect it to. Fifteen years ago sitting in a college education course, I certainly didn't expect that @GSuite would take over classrooms the way it has. It didn't even exist until 2006! #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
A1: Since this in my first year in the classroom, I definitely see huge differences from when I was a student. At the beginning, most of my third graders knew much more than I did about all of the new programs & tools they use every day! #bmoreedchat
A1: In the past five years, people have been heavily involved in the digital revolution. Due to this, I feel that conversation take place through technology more than in person. #ED446#BmoreEdchat
A1. I think the biggest adjustment has been comparing the role of technology in my childhood to the role of technology in my own siblings, cousins, and children I babysit for’s childhoods. Playing candy land on the computer was a treat when I was 5!
A1: Learning to navigate the digital world socially, academically, and correctly! There is so much out there and its important to know what to use vs. not. I think kids need this lesson! There is so much more or there then weird YouTube videos #BmoreEdchat#KeepMovingForwardBCPS
Q1 The world has certainly seen some changes in the last 5-10 years! How has your life (outside of the classroom) been affected by the digital revolution? What is the BIGGEST change you had to adjust to? #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
Realized it wasn’t about my enjoyment and the constraints that technology brings allows me to reprogram my teaching, reversing the design, in doing so I’ve recaptured the creativity I thought was lost. #BmoreEdchat
Absolutely. I love it, but I have to be very intentional when I’m done. I leave my phone in the kitchen and take off my Apple Watch so I don’t get distracted when spending time with my kids. I love what I do, so that just makes it worse, lol. #BmoreEdchat
A2: The opportunity to truly differentiate and reach every Ss is amazing...so many different ways that our Ss can be empowered and have their voices heard now on a global level. #BMoreEdChat
A2: I think just the fact that technology has become an integral part to teaching and learning. My dad worked in IT for our local county and he really wanted me to pursue a that as a career path. At the time I didn't see a future in it for me. #BMoreEdChat
A2: Using twitter to connect with other educators from all around the world! It is amazing the collaborative power that 280 characters has! #bmoreedchat
a1: Comparing my Elementary experience with technology in Elementary classrooms is a dramatic change. If the tools are applicable to the objective and standards then I see it as a positive. #BMoreEdChat#ED446
A1: The biggest change I have had to adjust to is societies dependence on technology and social media (something I am guilty of too). I am not very tech savvy so it hasn’t been easy! #BMoreEdChat
Tech has changed teaching so much in the 5 yrs I've been out of the classroom...I find myself honestly wanting to go back and redo tching w/all the new tools #BmoreEdchat
I have felt the digital revolution with the increase in cell phone use. I use mine for everything now a days, timer, social media, reading books, games, etc. #BmoreEdchat
I have felt the digital revolution with the increase in cell phone use. I use mine for everything now a days, timer, social media, reading books, games, etc. #Ed446#BmoreEdchat
A2. Using VR headsets and Google Expeditions my students were able to navigate inside cells, tour the nervous system, and even visit space. It gave them a whole new perspective. Also using AR to create games for review has tapped into the competitive side a little. #BmoreEdchat
Q2 Change doesn't always happen the way we expect it to. Fifteen years ago sitting in a college education course, I certainly didn't expect that @GSuite would take over classrooms the way it has. It didn't even exist until 2006! #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
A1:The amount of new ideas & resources found on social media has completely changed my class...I’ve also spent way too much time on twitter #BmoreEdchat
A2: I love how technology provides real time feedback. I could predict the engagement and expertise of the students, but the pace of return and diverse applications is so neat! #BmoreEdchat
A1. The biggest change is going outside my classroom walls and having global connections with others we @Skype with-amazing!!!! Also giving parents the window into their child’s day! I’m addicted to twitter and tweet CONSTANTLY 🤪
#BetterTogether#BMoreEdChat
A2 When I started teaching, I definitely felt that closed-door aspect other teachers warned me about. Going online allowed me to expand my PLN far more than I could have ever done in my school alone. #BmoreEdchat
A2: like right now on Twitter chatting with educators around the country. As for Ss to give real time feedback on writing is critical in creating critical thinkers and risk takers..and Google hangout, Ya Ss chatted with students from England Monday. #BmoreEdchat
A2 The internet was relatively new when I started. Now we can’t do much without it. Ss are able to find info in minutes that would have taken me hours at a library. No more floppy discs. It is hard to keep up sometimes #BMoreEdChat
A2: In @BaltCoPS we’ve been lucky to have devices for the past 5 years! We use these to help kids see all of the learning tools out there! They live in a digital world, they know how to use devices and we need to help show them what they have. #BmoreEdchat#KeepMovingForwardBCPS
Q2 Change doesn't always happen the way we expect it to. Fifteen years ago sitting in a college education course, I certainly didn't expect that @GSuite would take over classrooms the way it has. It didn't even exist until 2006! #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
A2 Feel like in the past 10 years we have absorbed / wasted a lot of money in https://t.co/flnYS2cuPG. Lessons were learned but it came at a cost, optimistic about the future though feel we are turning a corner. #BMoreEdChat
Q3 Don't get intimidated by the term! Augmented Reality just means projecting something digital onto reality. You probably use it without knowing what it is called! @Snapchat and @Facebook filters are examples. @PokemonGoApp was augmented reality, too! #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
Hey hey hey #BmoreEdchat! I’m Amber and I teach #3rdgreaters in Baltimore. My favorite tech device is my iPhone. Also, my least favorite tech device is my iPhone.
A2: As a learner I attended an event and then took notes = and shared with other Ts...and now I get to do this at @ascd. WOW #BmoreEdchathttps://t.co/HTDbo7T7j4
A2: Using twitter to connect with other educators from all around the world! It is amazing the collaborative power that 280 characters has! #bmoreedchat
A2: I love how technology provides real time feedback. I could predict the engagement and expertise of the students, but the pace of return and diverse applications is so neat! #BmoreEdchat
#bmoreedchat A2 The opportunity to learn using technology are endless! There are so many different resources readily available to students online to engage them in their learning.
A2: we no longer teach handwriting/cursive in schools due to the fact that there is no longer a need for it. It's a digital world and kids need to know how to type/use a computer. #bmoreedchat
It can be challenging, indeed. As students realize more and more that they can look up almost anything online, our jobs as teachers have to change drastically, don't they?
If they can Google it, it isn't something I should be spending too much time on! #Bmoreedchat
A3: I have not yet. Our school is moving 1:1 next year. This year I have been trying to figure out how to put more tech in my classroom. I am trying to take it one giant leap for mankind at a time.
Hi everyone, chiming in late. Karen from DC HS math. My favorite tech device is a chromebook. Love how affordable and efficient it is for students. #BmoreEdchat
A3 Have not used AR yet. I need to practice with Snapchat some more. I do #BookSnaps withe my students, but we use @Seesaw to create them. #BMoreEdChat
It really does let us provide that immediate feedback that we KNOW is so critical in student learning. I think that may be my absolute favorite part of the digital revolution. #BMoreEdChat
A3 does @ChatterPixIt count? I have a self-contained EL classroom, and the implementation of this app has made them excited to work on their speaking and more confident when presenting their writing #bmoreedchat
Team #bmoreedchat- good evening! Greg- K, #TeamFelegy. Checking in for some time while watching my alma mater @SyracuseU play in the NCAA play-in game. Go Orange! Hope all are well.
A3 We’ve used virtual field trips in my classroom! These help extend opportunities that may be unimaginable.. my kids love going back in time! #ED446#BMoreEdChat
#bmoreedchat A3 I have not however I am definitely interested in seeing how people have incorporated AR/VR into their classrooms. What comes to my mind is the expense part of it though!
A3: Tech has come and "taken over" but will never replace an effective teacher. Tech enhances and extends learning - tech are the tools to drive exploratory learning in the hands of an awesome teacher #BmoreEdchat
A2: we no longer teach handwriting/cursive in schools due to the fact that there is no longer a need for it. It's a digital world and kids need to know how to type/use a computer. #bmoreedchat
A3. All my walls are interactive with Aurasma augmented reality, all images either project playlists of lessons or a specific lesson attached to a certain skill. #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
A2. Yes- review and learning games, even test questions. Ss love them (unless a test question😉) . Switched from HPReveal to @MetaverseApp because it is easy to use. #BmoreEdchat#edtech#ARVRinEDU
#bmoreedchat A3 I have not however I am definitely interested in seeing how people have incorporated AR/VR into their classrooms. What comes to my mind is the expense part of it though!
Hey #bmoreedchat thanks for the great conversation! I hope you'll consider joining me for #waledchat tomorrow at 9pm ET when we talk strengths and growth areas! Join us!
Agreed. Tech and amazing teachers TOGETHER are what will transform education. Not one or the other. Tech can be used in boring, fairly useless ways or, with the right guidance, it can be used to change the world. #BMoreEdChat
Q4 One of the most powerful transformation you can see with #EdTech is a transformation of young people from learners to creators. What might that look like with augmented reality? Skies the limit! What would you do if time/money/tech weren't a factor? #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
A3: I have not applied Virtual Reality though I could see the applications to study locations which are all the way around the world. #globalization#BmoreEdchat
Think of virtual and augmented reality not as online learning, but as ways to enhance the learning experience within a classroom. Here are some resources that might help! https://t.co/ziUVKtFqaN#BMoreEdChat
It does not have to be expensive! There are several apps that can bring augmented reality into your classroom for free! Here are some ideas for you: https://t.co/ziUVKtFqaN#BMoreEdChat
A4: I lean to interior design and 3D printing. I could see students designing artwork installations, interior plans for the school, or improvements. #BmoreEdchat
A4: how cool would this be?! Let them create! Future engineers, scientists, inventors and more in the making! Technology is evolving and IS the future, keep making learning real to set students up for success! #BmoreEdchat#KeepMovingForwardBCPS

A4. Product information/demonstration brought to life. Tours of far off places in the palm of your hand (or eyes if VR). Scavenger hunt games for knowledge. Ss have already begun as they can make AR games easily. #BmoreEdchat

A4) I can see augmented reality being a way for students to really explore all aspects of a topic. Excited to see it in action tomorrow with Google’s visit to ICS. #BmoreEdchat

A4 I can envision amazing presentations - virtual trips, swimming with dolphins. I have just started shifting away from relying on the preboxed programs and over to digital portfolios. My Ss love creating using tech. We are limited by our tech availability #BMoreEdChat
A4: Also breeds creative thinking to see something that they only was in a book and begin to compare and contrast discussions around multiple topics #BmoreEdchat
I think ed tech has influenced education drastically! I think it’s awesome how there are so many online resources for students to learn -that are engaging for them! I also enjoy how students are able to use creativity on their devices by using programs like Wixie. #BMoreEdChat
A4 Students can create their own tours of far off places with Google Tour builder. What a great way to have them explore ancient Egypt or study the complex political map of 16th century Europe! #bmoreedchathttps://t.co/nk4iytKr8q
A4 I just learned about @MergeVR today! I would love to see students create their own holographic VR presentations - thinking maybe a water cycle or trip to outer space to report on a planet! #bmoreedchat

Q5 "For decades, science fiction authors, futurists, and movie makers alike have been predicting the amazing (and sometimes catastrophic) changes that will arise with the advent of widespread artificial intelligence." https://t.co/azi2BXpYp3#BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
First time using it. 2 50 minute periods plus time they spent on their own voluntarily. It’s easy enough. We steered clear of object creation though. #bmoreedchat
A1: Each student in my class has their own device that they use multiple times throughout the school day. My mentor teacher also relies on technology for a lot of her lessons! This is a drastic change from when I was in elementary school!! #BmoreEdchat#ed446

This is such a great point! And it focuses on one of the greatest benefits of tech REAL time data and feedback so you can adjust and modify instruction minute to minute based on need! Love it! Talk about this constantly with @thegridmethod but it applies universally #BmoreEdchat
A2: I think that ed tech has had a positive effect on education today! For example, my students are able to research topics on their own through age-appropriate search engines (such as pebble go!) and they enjoy using their devices each day! #BmoreEdchat#ed446
So much of teaching for me was storytelling, my issue with Ed. Tech is that it disrupts a natural cadence that I have found crucial for learning, I rarely eat the salad at an all you can eat buffet #BMoreEdChat ... Again, this evolutionary for me, I think it can be done well.
A5 My 4yo loves Siri, but she thinks it is alive. I can see AI being used to quickly look up info. Sometimes it is a little too Terminator for me, lol #BmoreEdchat
A4. A4. studio in class, creation and presentation, Open source (not bound to a book) controlled chaos, imagination over memorization, creators of content over mere users of it, student-driven, AR Portfolios #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat

Q6 Let's shift gears to another one of 2018 Hot Trends in #EdTech: Global education!
The world looks different than it did a decade ago- what role does #EdTech play in helping our students learn about and connect with the great wide world out there? #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
I think storytelling is critical in a tech infused classroom. The stories are what matter. The way we tell them might change, & the ppl telling the stories might change, but the stories remain. I like to think of tech as allowing me to help my Ss tell the story, too. #BMoreedchat
So much of teaching for me was storytelling, my issue with Ed. Tech is that it disrupts a natural cadence that I have found crucial for learning, I rarely eat the salad at an all you can eat buffet #BMoreEdChat ... Again, this evolutionary for me, I think it can be done well.
Edtech is meant to enhance the learning experience and support learning goals and objectives. It will never replace great pedagogy or storytelling. I’ve found that there are often times when I intentionally DON’T include technology! #bmoreedchat
A6: Global connections are powerful...Ss are beginning to understand the impact they can have on real-world issues regardless of their age. #BMoreEdChat
A5 we use AI in the classroom much m ore than we think! Any time we use a program that adapts to a students individual learning level- it's AI! #bmoreedchat
A6: Technology platforms and communication tools shrink the planet and provide a way to listen to other perspectives. The key is teaching students how to evaluate personal bias & misconceptions. #BmoreEdchat
A6.) I think it can connect students from around the world within the classroom. It would be so interesting for students to see different schools in the world and how they operate! #bmoreedchat#ed446
My students have #geniushour projects on everything from Alaskan Owls to history of video games. They are contacting experts in the fields, creating documentaries, websites, and apps, and it is amazing the communication skills they are learning! #BMoreEdChat
This is the debate with AI as people fear it will replace teachers. However there is some inherently emotional about teaching that I don't foresee robots being able to produce. #BmoreEdchat
A6. I just answered that in an earlier ?🤣. @Skype or @GoogleHangout allows@you to connect outside those classroom walls making-friends! Had a Skype today from New York and 2 more tomorrow;). We ❤️ #BMoreEdChat
A6 You can bring Ss there. Google Earth was powerful for my students. We zoomed in right down to our street level- they hadn’t realized how big the world really is. Connecting with classrooms on other continents, building cultural bridges #BmoreEdchat
Haven’t tried it by mysteryskype with experts around the world. Learn from the people doing experiments in real time. Blogging is a big one. I need to get into that. Tweet your awesomeness. #BmoreEdchat#MasteryChat
Q6 Let's shift gears to another one of 2018 Hot Trends in #EdTech: Global education!
The world looks different than it did a decade ago- what role does #EdTech play in helping our students learn about and connect with the great wide world out there? #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
It can be intimidating sometimes for people who don't consider themselves "techies," but a lot of this stuff is actually really much more accesible than people realize! Glad you are finding it valuable! #BMoreEdChat
A6 Not only does implementing technology make my Ss better digital citizens, but improves their global literacy, too. Integration of tech makes the world a smaller place it is important that our Ss gain skills that allow them to be a part of this changing society #bmoreedchat
This is a good point about schedules and older patterns in schools. However, I would say we need to provide ALL schools with the necessary funding and tech to be able to change these practices. #BmoreEdchat
That personal bias and misconception evaluation is spot on! identifying that bias and thinking critically about the vast amounts of information they consume is vital to our students' development! #BMoreEdChat
A6: Technology platforms and communication tools shrink the planet and provide a way to listen to other perspectives. The key is teaching students how to evaluate personal bias & misconceptions. #BmoreEdchat
Q7 Let's sum it all up tonight with a fill in the blank! What are you excited about? Nervous about? How will you allow this digital revolution to transform learning in YOUR classroom? #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
A6 I believe the more connected students feel the less likely they are to do harm. The utility of technology to create connections may be the essence of Peace Education, for that I am grateful. I have witnessed this today in the maturity shown in the walk outs #BMoreEdChat
Tech should not merely replace learning experiences. It should IMPROVE them. If it doesn't, don't use it or find a different approach! #BMoreEdChathttps://t.co/X35fsD1vmr
A6 I believe the more connected students feel the less likely they are to do harm. The utility of technology to create connections may be the essence of Peace Education, for that I am grateful. I have witnessed this today in the maturity shown in the walk outs #BMoreEdChat
Absolutely! I consider myself to be pretty tech savvy, but there is so much tech that I haven't explored yet. So many resources to add to the repertoire. #bmoreedchat
A6 I love that my school can @skype with a sister school across the country and learn from each other in real time. It is like penpals, but so much more awesome and relevant to our students' lives! #bmoreedchat
A6: this is everything right now! Not only does this look different, but so does the workforce! And our students are luck to have 1:1 devices that help prepare them! #edtech help us by showing our kids what learning resources are out there! #bmoreedchat#KeepMovingForwardBCPS

The world looks different than it did a decade ago- what role does #EdTech play in helping our students learn about and connect with the great wide world out there? #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
A7: excited students' learning potential can be maximized, and nervous they won't take advantage and focus more on the social side of tech #BmoreEdchat
A7: I am most excited about learning about more technology from kids as they are the experts and always can fix stuff. I am most nervous about getting overwhelmed with all the ed tech options! I must focus on one or two! #BmoreEdchat
A7 I’m most excited about the continued digital journey and all the amazing ideas I will learn! I’m most nervous that teachers don’t embrace the new and let go of old! Be uncomfortable #BMoreEdChat
Q7 Let's sum it all up tonight with a fill in the blank! What are you excited about? Nervous about? How will you allow this digital revolution to transform learning in YOUR classroom? #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
For sure! Ss are often experts in a variety of technologies. I've shared w/ many Ts not to be afraid to ask their Ss for help w/ tech, because they can be incredibly helpful. #bmoreedchat
I find that most students leap at the opportunity to help you keep up. Let them be your teacher. Let them take the reigns and help plan those experiences. Amazing things can happen! #BMoreEdChat
Definitely. Completely agree. We do in our district to the best of our abilities, but leaders and policies should reflect how we get there to. #BmoreEdchat
#bmoreedchat A7 I am most excited about engaging my students in new and innovative ways. I am most nervous about how quickly technology changes and incorporating technology into the classroom to prepare our students for the ever changing (& now highly technology based) society.
A7: I am most excited about virtual learning and REAL connections. I am nervous that the curriculums won’t allow us to encourage our students creativity in this digital world. #BmoreEdchat#KeepMovingForwardBCPS
Q7 Let's sum it all up tonight with a fill in the blank! What are you excited about? Nervous about? How will you allow this digital revolution to transform learning in YOUR classroom? #BMoreEdChat#MasteryChat
A7 Thinking about the digital revolution I am must excited about the potential for student agency and peace building, I am most nervous about adults using these new tools to further advance a limited definition of student success. #BMoreEdChat
And isn't that our ultimate goal? To help these young people find the answer to those questions in a positive way?
Love the opportunities I have in modern education to make this a reality! #BMoreEdChat
A7: I'm excited abt opportunities to expand learning to reaches b4 impossible for Ss of poverty...I'm also worried abt an inadequacy with resources and access #BMoreEdChat

A7: I’m excited for the tech that continues to connect Ss with the 🌏, people & cultures; I’m nervous about losing independence & personal connections #BmoreEdchat
