Hi! Katie 4th grade teacher from Thomas Johnson in Baltimore City Schools. My favorite spaces (besides my classroom!) are our yoga room and the library! #BmoreEdchat
Irene from Baltimore, but sitting on a tarmac in Dallas. I work @LoyolaEducation &a strength is our #LoyolaET online program bc we can bring learning to Ss from many locations!! #BMoreEdChat

Hello, My name is Erin Mullin and I am an intern at Pine Grove Elementary school. I think that our library is one strength in our school because there are such a wide variety of books for our students to engage with! #bmoreedchat
Kaitlyn here from Baltimore City! 2nd grade teacher whose school is moving into a new building next year WITH A POOL! Hoping we can get it filled! 🏊🏻🏊♀️🤽🏻♂️#BMoreEdChat
Lisa Glos, ECSE at Lakewood. We are creating a sensory circuit in a hallway so students who need input are able to take a quick break and return to their classroom. #bmoreedchat
Hi all! Jessica, Ed Specialist at ESC Region 12...our learning/working spaces are being redone to foster more creativity and collaboration for adults! #BmoreEdchat
I love when classrooms are large! I am able to do more with a large space! As a music T, auditoriums are a must-have, so the Ss can experience various arts & the stage! #BMoreEdChat

A1: All campuses should have an area where Ts can collaborate and create with their students...think #makerspace, learning lab, tinker lab, etc. #BmoreEdchat
A1: I think that all schools need a place for students to go where they can cool down and get themselves back in the right mindset to learn! #bmoreedchat
I remember my first classroom had one little window...I had my plant over there and a curtain...enjoyed the heck out of that little ray of light! #BmoreEdchat
A1: Classrooms should have personal touches from teachers. In an entire school, I think common flex spaces for students and community are important to stimulate relationships and conversation. #BmoreEdchat
A1: I'm Mary I am an intern at Elmwood Elementary. I agree with @ErinMullin8 students should have a place where they can go if they need to leave the classroom to cool down that is not the office but is also somewhere that their teachers know they will be safe. #BmoreEdchat
A1: I agree with natural light, space that can be adapted as the classroom and student needs change and develop. Some classrooms are big, but are laid out in constricting ways. (and windows that OPEN, please) #BmoreEdChat
I really appreciate spaces that allow for flexibility in instruction. As Educators we stole UDL from architects, the best school spaces let Architects use UDL to meet the needs of our students. #BMoreEdChat
I completely agree that it needs to be a safe space for students, so they can work on self-regulating, rather than being overly supervised when they need time to decompress. #BmoreEdChat
A2: Grants are a good option, just be careful of fine print...former district required all construction be done by maintenance which wasn’t the most cost effective for the grant #BmoreEdchat
Agreed, teachers need to be able to make their spaces their own, we are currently looking at some ways to redesign our campus. I believe having shared spaces w/community & flexible spaces for family & community to take part in the learning #BmoreEdchat

A2: With grants, look creatively. We received one of the UA facilities grants that went mainly to HS because we were able to show that our young learners needed gates to safely access our outside space. #BmoreEdChat
A2 this is where shared agreements with partnerships can be beneficial & a necessity for schools. We must find ways to engage our community because the school is a central hub, we have a parks and rec beside us w/a baseball field, & tennis courts #BmoreEdchat
We were limiting where they could play because the openings were too far apart if someone tried to elope (and we are at an intersection that has had accidents. #BmoreEdChat
A2: Sometimes the little facility upgrades can be completed during a community workday! Students and I made these skip counting stairs one Saturday! #BmoreEdchat
We have to hold our politicians accountable to fully funding the education of our kids. BCPSS has some of the oldest &most decrepit building stock on the East Coast. Kozol says: why is it that we dump money into schools but allocate funds to the defense department? #BmoreEdchat
A2 we do have opportunties for grants too, but engaging w/our families because they know people who know people. We must tell our story so others can help share it, & invite them to help us write it #BmoreEdchat
Love it, our sensory circuit is from staff donations, items built by the father of a teacher, and items built by families of former students. It's not perfect, but we are building it together. #BmoreEdChat
A3: Every single space should reflect the community and the students. Could be student work. Could be intentional space for collaboration. The facility should reflect the mission and vision of the school. #BmoreEdchat
A3: Open space and light...I want there to be tons of natural lighting and areas with adjustable lighting to create more of a coffee shop atmosphere. #BmoreEdchat
A3: Clean, bright spaces, natural light, room to run in the gymnasium, a stage to perform, and adults with warm, inclusive smiles with culturally responsive teaching in every classroom!#BmoreEdchat
A3: Open space and light...I want there to be tons of natural lighting and areas with adjustable lighting to create more of a coffee shop atmosphere. #BmoreEdchat
A3: Putting the students' needs first. I have been in school with amazing staff spaces, but without an eye for children. There is a TED talk about a Kindergarten in Japan that is amazing. The way the design process is described is intense #BmoreEdChat
A3. Not sure that there will always be a common element. A media production studio might be very different than a gym which might be very different than a science lab. All areas need to work in unison be can be distinct. #BmoreEdchat
And speaking as the parent of kids who spent the majority of their Elementary School in that were open space, my god let's give them some windows & walls that go to the ceiling. #BMoreEdChat
