A1: Quarters. It is incredibly flexible which means once we teach the rules how we want to, it can be a Cover 2, Cover 4, Fire Zone, Match Coverage, Half Field Coverage, Trap Coverage, and can align to all formations. #425chat
We are a quarters based team but run split field coverages. Our favorite is a 2 read concept. Allows you not to chase the out route/crosser in man #425chat
Auto/RipLiz Match. Run sound. Pattern matching. Free player. Man principles vs zone beating routes, zone integrity vs man beating routes. Can make it look like anything pre-snap. Multiple checks for different style offenses. Beautiful when executed well. Also love Rat #425chat
A1: We teach a Cover 2 Read as our base in camp. Change based on our kids. We run a match alignment principle that forces all DBs to know every spot in our coverages. #425chat
A1. we play read (palms or blue) coverage to 2x2. Easy for us to teach and able to stay 2 high. Match up routes within 5 yards. All indy drills work off 1 of 4 reads by #2 rec. #425chat
We face everything from wing T to spread. Against spread we run a split coverage, that is based off of tendencies and formation. That worked really well when we finally got a hang of it, this year was the first we ran a 4-2-5. Wing T teams it’s all basic coverages. #425chat
2/4 read and split field coverages. Found a lot of success from @The_Coach_A match quarters concepts. It was versatile for everyone we played, but also improved the overall football IQ of our secondary #425chat
A1: Cover 3 Match, can defend verticals from 1 high look, always keeps six in the box , and easy to build off of for trips checks and split field coverages. #425chat **But I ❤️me some cover 0**
A1: Quarters or 3match to 2x2 - 3Match we have the roll safety read off #2, if he's vertical the safety takes him if #2 goes out safety rolls & takes him, we keep safety high to disguises what coverage we are in. The safeties are aggressive in the ally for run support #425chat
A1: We also run trap coverages with some blitzes. Especially if we are playing a QB that defaults to the flats vs. pressure. @Coach_ZC better run it too. #425chat
A1: Robber is our base call vs trips with man backside; Keeps WS as B-gap player weak as well vs run. Idea is to get help from both ILB (wall) and protect FS from multiple verts or routes which put him in a bind. #425chat
A2) Can't have one answer for anything. Trips....can we cover all verts, just like any other set. Then why are they in trips, what do we need to do to stop it. #425chat
A2: multiple. Depending on field location. We can check man or check black. It’s cover 2 to trips man BS. Or Cover 3 dropping into a 3 front with some stunts. All depends on who is on the field at the time. Also have a 25 call. OLB jams solo WR with C help over top
A2: “Keep 5 in your pocket” have enough to play tendencies, be able to force from the field against run/screen while still able to carry seams. We base our on D&D, tendency, and ball location. Make the ball go where you want it to go. #425chat
A2: We have multiple checks and we will switch depending on what they want to do in Trips. Isolate their best WR, we play some Special. If they want to run Bubble, we play aggressive press with our CB. Will also lock CB man on #1 in Trips and play Quarters to the rest. #425chat
Simplicity. If 3 is detached, we will man the #1 and Read #2. If 3 is attached, we will man #3 and Read #2. Two coverages, two calls that kids pick up day 1 and have no issue executing #425chat
Our philosophy is to stay 2 high to 2x2 or trips. We ran 2 coverages that are basically a cover 3 to 3x1. Still protected ourselves from 4 verts. Didn't over complicate it. JH ran it as well. #425chat
You cannot have just one coverage for Trips. I like to base out of Stress & use Special as a change-up. Both allow the b/s safety help with the weak side run & you can easily double the X. Also like to play games to the single WR side (Trap).
#425chat
A2 Addendum: Look at your opposing offenses. Other than quick screen, #1 is almost never targeted in Trips. Usually too long of a throw for the QB and not what the offense is trying to do. #425chat
We had a couple of checks. For most parts of the field we had one trips check it didn’t matter if #3 was a tight end or not. If they were in the red zone or inside the 10 then we had a different trips check. #425chat
A2: We go into each game with multiple trips checks. We let our FS and WLB check most calls. Can vary based on field position and D/D. If we sit in one trips check QB in our district will light it up. #425chat
A2: sometimes play Cop/Lock where we man #1 and play Palms on everyone else. #1 in trips is least thrown target in any formation so we put a safety on him so our PS corner can play Palms like normal on 2/3.Basic philosophy; have more guys than them. Trust backside corner #425chat
#425chat
A3 Nub formations
We again are 10/11 personnel heavy league, so its 3x1 mostly
Special allows a great variation back to the nub.
If they want to run the ball to the Nub, C3 and send the Rover

A3: Stress allows the b/s safety insert into the box. 11p Nub Trips is one of the toughest formations to defend. Do you flip the CB & the safety? Do you spin to C3 to get your LBs in the box? Bottom line, what are they doing out of it & align to stop it. #425chat
A2 We had a lot of success with Stress to the trips side, and would change our backside rules depending upon our opponents’ tendencies. Our kids favored it, even when our game plan may have included another adjustment. We’d scrap the plan and go to that. #425chat
Multiple. The backside corner will play MEG, and I'll modify the front side coverage based on game plan. OC's don't throw to #1 strong, so ill either lock him up too or have that Corner midpoint #1&2 and see if the QB can throw that deep out #425chat
A3) Probably need a little more info in what else is going on in the formation. But Its 1 receiver, so sky/cloud or man. Could lets us roll coverage or blitz, like I said, need more. #425chat
A2: Quarters or Cloud. In quarters we have the Mike work to #3 nickel works #2 to #1 and backside safety reads #3 as well. Cloud we have the corner sit, and one safety rolls over top and the other plays MOF. backside bump & run, with weak LB taking away slant #425chat
A3: against trips nub: man on #1 and quarters everywhere else. Keeps your numbers to the TE. #1 is least thrown target in trips
Against any other nub: we didn’t see a lot of it, but we’d play the nub side and back to that side first up, first out with 2 backside DBs #425chat
This is any easy adjustment if you have a good Ni. The weakness in Special (what you described) is the coverage ability of the man over #2. Can he carry the vertical? That's the question. Like your adjustment. #425chat
A3: Would depend on formation and R/M/L hash, but generally if 1 RB Cover 2, if 2 RB Cover 3. Maybe align in 2 and roll to 0 and bring some heat 🔥😁🤷🏻♂️ #425chat
We move our corner in over #2 and play Palms on 2/3. Still have 3/2 with LB. Our FS plays #3 like he’d normally play #2 in doubles. Great coverage #425chat
A4: We like to run it with man and use LBs under instead of robbing down. Will probably use safeties more next year in robber roles, especially on run heavy downs. #425chat
This is our base. We run it against specific formations/structures in order to get extra numbers in the box. Takes some extra teaching and lots of reps for FS but everyone else has simple rules. Wanna play fast! #425chat
Had a lot of success with Stress and our kids loved it. We’d have 3 different adjustments planned for a game but they’d ask to go Stress. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it I guess lol
A4: Love Robber to get 9 in the box. Pretty adjustable too, formation adjustments take some time and reps but if you play a lot of run heavy teams it’s a great cover #425chat
We have 3 different 3x1 checks that we make besides Cov.1, but will only go in to that week with 1 or 2 based on that teams favorite route combos. #425chat
We tried to run it to start this year. Had a little trouble when our starting FS was moved to our starting QB and didn’t really have the right athlete back there to be able to run it so we just stayed in our basic split field coverages. #425chat
My issue with Special has always been you have 2 guys essentially in man. That worries me. Worked for Briles. Learned to defend the verts (fatals) first & work from there. HS/small college is a little different. If you got the guys you can do anything! #425chat
Cov. 6 is the simplest and easiest adjustment, IMO. However we occasionally play a Roll/Cloud coverage and lock the CB up on the nub. He is taught not to run with the route across the field. He passes any drag or crosser and looks for wheel or any route back to him. #425chat
A4: I’d run Rat/Robber on every play if I could. Gets a ballhawk hawking the ball, usually unaccounted for in run game in a 2 shell. Can dictate where you want the ball to go with leverage of down Safeties/LBs. Route recognition is key to produce true “robs”=INTs #425chat
Q5: What coverages do you run behind your pressures? Primarily a zone blitz team? Zero? Etc.... please explain you philosophy behind your calls #425chat

Yeah I don’t share the same concern. I’d welcome fatals in this coverage all day. Protect yourself Backside with your other high safety. Not worried about #1 to trips. Protected underneath with low Safety and LB on other side. If 3 is vertical, 2 prob isn’t. CB help #425chat

We run it out of 1 high safety. Against specific formations/structures, we have run it out of 2 high. Gotta ensure the right kids are there and also has to be game planned. It's not a good coverage against 2x2 if that team runs lots of bubbles #425chat
3 Deep, 3 Under for us on most blitzes. It is my belief that most HS QB's will not be able to sit in the pocket under constant pressure and consistently deliver accurate throws to the spots we do not occupy. In 0 (which we play), 1 athlete can beat your athlete. #425chat
If you're got 2 dudes outside Rat is great vs the Spread. Especially Air Raid based crossing routes. Still a big fan of Steal. That way I'm not spinning & works within the Quarters mold. #425chat
A5: We teach 3 deep 3 under in camp or spring ball, but we have some bracket man concepts we use for most of our 5 or 6 man pressures. On occasion we will throw in traditional cover 4 vs a vert check team. Man is always there but we don't really have to teach that. #425chat
Yeah, he ran it really well and we were excited about it. But as soon as he left we realized we couldn’t do it anymore. Hopefully we find him this year! #425chat
